Adele owns the Oscars in black Jenny Packham: everybody else can go home!

Everybody can go home now. Adele is here. Adele!!!!!!!! ADELE. God, how much do you love her? Everybody on the red carpet was in a tizzy when she arrived in this Jenny Packham gown. I mean… I love her, but she’s worn versions of this gown on nearly every red carpet of her career. She loves black gowns with sleeves. It’s her thing. But obviously, people were in a tizzy because she’s ADELE and she’s amazing. And now she’s an Oscar winner!!

It really wasn’t any kind of competition. Everyone knew she would get it. Everyone knew she deserved it too. Did you know she’s only 24 years old? Adele and Jennifer Lawrence need to get together to rule the world. Or at least take back what it means to be a young 20-something professional – Adele and J-Law are doing more to define their generation than Kristen Stewart and (I hate to say it) Lena Dunham.

Here’s her performance of “Skyfall” – I’m including two different videos to see what works for you! I loved that you could tell she was singing live. Her voice faltered a few times, but that’s what makes her awesome – she was truly performing live.

Adele Performs – Skyfall – Oscars 2013 by IdolxMuzic

Here she is backstage with her adorable co-writer/co-lyricist. She’s so funny. I love her laugh, and I love her EGOT talk.

    Gorgeous! Great song too.

  2. Stef says:

She looks beautiful. It’s hard to believe her and Taylor Swift are the same age. You watch them perform and it’s like…. one just exudes maturity and talent and the other one is like a sing a long to a Sweet valley High book.

    • momoftwo says:

OMG I never thought about that! Adele just seems like someone you would want to be BFF’s with…and Taylor Swift…well…hide your bunnies cuz she seems crazy!

    • Lolly says:

      Taylor’s 23, born 1989

    • lucy2 says:

Wow, I never thought of that either, that they’re basically the same age! What a difference.

    • Zimmer says:

      Love your comment!

Adele is so stunning. Her make-up and hair are so attractive and even though her dresses don’t change much, I think they suit her well. She is loaded with class and poise. I love that she is confident, yet funny and down to earth.

  3. elkiddo says:

I don’t care about Adele, she’s all blah to me. I wish she would wear different color too.

  4. Aiobhan says:

I liked her dress from the Grammys better but I like the dress. Her make though is a little off to me. Maybe it is the lights or something but it looks like it is caked on.

Other than that I am actually growing to love this woman and her flaw free personality. KStew needs to take a few lessons in cool from Adele. But maybe we all should.

  5. Isa says:

I love Adele. I think she is insanely beautiful. I’d love to see her make some more daring fashion choices.
Lets start with color: emerald green, colbalt blue, anything really.
Black is fine but wearing it ALL the time is just boring.

    • Chicagogurl17 says:

Agreed but when the stage lights hit her gown everything twinkled. Every now and then some color would be great without a wild print like the Grammys but regardless I think she always looks beautiful and confident.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Isa-I completely agree! She would look great in a deep emerald color. Also, that tone of blonde is not right for her skin tone.

    • TQB says:

OMG yes, emerald!! I did love this look, and the dress she wore to perform (so sparkly!) but would love to see her in a vibrant jewel tone. Her skin and hair are so luminous.

  6. RocketMerry says:

Love her but disliked the dress. It’s a bit too severe and it looks like such a heavy fabric. The sparkles are also a bit overwhelming for me.
Make-up and hair are perfect though, and she is, as always, very pretty.

    • Rachel says:

The dress she performed in was much better. Same style. Black. Beaded. But it was shorter, and didn’t look so damn heavy and dowdy.

  7. ramie says:

I feel like she’s worn this dress a million times.

  8. MoxyLady007 says:

I loved Adele. Until I heard she was going to work with Chris Brown.

She is at an amazing place in her career. She doesn’t need him for anything so the fact that she is still choosing to work with him is appalling.

  9. chimchimsmom says:

Love Adele’s makeup from last night, especially the rose lipstick. (much more flattering than the bright red in the other photos) Her skin looks so fresh. Wish she’d wear something other than beaded black, but she seems comfortable with it.

  10. Bird says:

    She looked great!

  11. Sachi says:

I guess this is her “image” by now.

She tried to wear some colour at the Grammys but a lot of people didn’t take well to that, so…

I honestly think black suits her a lot, combined with the big hair and great makeup. Her face could easily belong in the 1940s-50s and this classic, vintage look works best for her.

And I liked that her performance wasn’t a show-stopper. I don’t think she wanted it to be that way. Dame Shirley Bassey and Barbara Streisand were more deserving of the attention, with their years being in the industry and their talent. Adele is a newcomer, IMO it was appropriate that she didn’t try to outperform respected, veteran artists.

Plus, Skyfall is not her best song anyway. 😀

    • Lulu says:

      LeAnn should take notes!

    • TQB says:

Totally agree that Skyfall is far from her best song, but I love it because it sort of seems like something she just tossed together in between diaper changes when the Bond people called her. And I loved her performance because she is just such a consummate performer. She believes in her voice and just does it. It was imperfect, but so live. I just loved it.

  12. brin says:

Love her, so glad she won!! She looks beautiful!

  13. Ms Kay says:

Well at least she got a different hairdo… And the red lipstick for the win fo sho!

  14. Lisa says:

The dress looks like everything else she has worn to award shows. Did love the bold, red lip on her, she really carries that off.

  15. Jane says:

Adele wears too much makeup and she doesn’t even need that much. I just looked at her on screen and thought how beautiful her skin and features are. So jealous.

    • shewolf says:

Totally agree about the makeup. She’s gorgeous but she drowns herself in big hair, tons of makeup and giant dresses. It makes her seem really self concious about her size.

  16. JL says:

Great voice, new mom and comfortable in her own skin, successful in her own right and confident enough to sing live.

She’s won a lot more and a lot more important things in life than an Oscar, a stick thin body, a chance to lip sync and a need to seek constant attention.

    Now that’s an acheivement.

  17. LadyJane says:

    Best speech of the night.

  18. aims says:

Adele will forever be my favorite. I just adore her. She’s the girl you’d want to shot the shit with. Her dress is ok, she kind of has a style that she wears. It would be nice for her to shake it up on once in a while. I love Adele, and i want her to be my friend, lol.

  19. The Original Mia says:

Adele! I didn’t watch the show. I flipped back when I heard she was about to sing. Did not disappoint. She rocked that song.

The dress was meh, but comfortable. I loved her hair down. Sexy mama!

    • bluhare says:

I didn’t watch either, and wanted to see both her and Scarlett Johansson. I missed them both.

I think I’m the only person in the world who liked that mood piece Scarlett sang, and I thought she did a good job even if the register was a tad low for her. I wanted to see her do it live!

      • MG says:

I loved ScarJo’s song. Very beautiful and haunting.
As far as Adele…my God that woman is incredible. Love her, loved the song and I think she looked GORGEOUS!!!

  20. Elizabeth says:

I don’t like how she always wears her hair like that – with the two weird side fringe things hanging out.
It looks way better in the other pics when it is all out…

I like Adele but I would never be able to distinguish her from one event to the other as she is always styled exactly the same

  21. Mirella says:

I love her SO much! I’m so happy she won!!

  22. Emma - the JP Lover says:

This woman is SO seriously overrated.

    • amy says:

I love her pink lipstick, has anyone got any suggestions as to what it could be or one of a similar shade?

  23. spinner says:

Adele is fabulous. I am still pissed at the sound production people. They really blew it.

  24. bea says:

    She has the best hair!

  25. Lulu says:

She is so sexy and beautiful. Love her. However if she is going to work with CB I will have to reconsider.

  26. Rachel says:

I am completely mystified by everyone’s Adele love. She looks like a transvestite and her songs are very 1970’s ballad a al Air Supply. Sorry, I sound like a troll. My friends all love her. I’ll just sit here with a “????” over my head. I’ll accept that she compares well to most pop artists of today, but that’s still not saying much. “She’s so much better than Taylor Swift,” well, yeah. Of course. But I still just see ‘RuPaul singing torch songs that sound exactly like Air Supply.’ I also didn’t get Amy “mouth full of marbles” Winehouse. Go ahead, flame me. 🙂

    • lower-case deb says:

i don’t think there’ll be any flaming. at the end of the day, i think even Adele herself will tell you, it’s about people’s tastes in music (didn’t she say musical wasn’t her thing?) 🙂 and at the end of the day, that’s what Adele is too. she has made it so easy for everyone to just concentrate on her and her music (dress, always the same. make up always the same. weight, always the same. stage, always the same). in the end, all we can judge her on is music.

and with music, comes personal preferences. and preferences can come with strong feelings. my grandmother actually loves glam metal and shock rock, i kid you not! she caught this bug very late into her old years, from my cousin who happened to live with her after he got kicked out from home.

(full disclosure: before that, my grandma loves keroncong music (traditional indonesian music), which no one else in the family likes).

      here’s an example:
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H_1goAVTQc

my cousin always told me that everyone in his class was very envious. because everyone else who liked rock had to listen to it in secret because their parents WILL confiscate their records and throw the “ghastly” songs away. my grandma’s house was the only refuge for them.

however, she hated titanic-type ballads with a passion. you should hear her vitriol. you’d think celine dion killed her kitten. then she hated coldplay too. she’s forever telling us to “dial that crap down”.

so, i totally get it if you don’t like Adele. my grandma doesn’t. haha. she’s always, “who strangled what cat?”

      • bluhare says:

I’m with your grandma on the Titanic type ballads. Celine Dion needs to be arrested for animal cruelty! 😉

      • Sandra Sydney says:

        Hi, lower case deb…

Too funny, cuz your granny sounds just like me, also a granny. The only difference is, my passion is punk rock and my all-time favourite punk band is Bad Religion. I have a BR tattoo, have been to countless shows in various states and lucky enough to finally meet them. My grown-up daughter dragged me over (after telling them i am their biggest, and likely oldest, fan), while we were all at the airport – they were flying interstate for their next how, which we were also going to attend. They were welcoming, polite, funny, friendly and very accommodating. When I said it was a highly embarrassing for my daughter to have dragged me over, Greg said he was intrigued that the mum was the more devoted fan, and Jay roared laughing when I made a self-deprecating remark about being their oldest fan. He said, “Bah! We are all art of the same family – the punk family!” They were so sweet…! Sigh. I also love Pennywise and picked up tickets to their Sydney show on April 5. Can’t wait. Oh, and just to keep on-topic, I really like Adele.

    • delia says:

I don’t get the massive Adele love either. She’s ok and has a decent voice, but her music always sounds the same to me. Wasn’t impressed with either the song Skyfall or her performance of it at all. Musically, I think that she gets a lot of accolades just because most of her competitors are so bad. I also always think that her big hair and caked on make-up look awful and that her matronly dresses make her look 20 years older than she is.

IMO Winehouse was absolutely terrible. Stole a little R & B from those who were/are truly talented and proceeded to completely mutilate it.

    • FassDaActor says:

I’m going to go with you on that. She’s a great singer but the songs? Amy got her hook up from the Dap-Kings. I can’t get with it. Well Adele looked beautiful last night.

      • Rachel says:

Thanks for not flaming me, lowercase deb! Yes, it’s just a matter of musical taste. Your grandma sounds awesome! She can come over and listen to music with me anytime!

      • Jm says:

Not arguing w/you, but just a mention . . . it’s on Amy Winehouse’s lesser-known songs that you will recognize she really was an amazing talent. Not until I listened to all her songs did I realize. There’s a depth and layers to her voice that most singers don’t have. . . Adele has that same sort of thing.

For me, at least, that’s the draw. I usually hate ballads but both those women do it for me.

  27. bagladey says:

I prefer Adele’s Grammy dress which, contrary to popular opinion, I actually liked.

  28. Lipsy says:

She’s perfection!!! Her hair, makeup… I love the way she talks, how she greets the journalists, the way she laughs! LOVE HER.

  29. Faye says:

I love Adele, but is she really going to collaborate with Chris Brown? Say it aint’ so because if it is, that’ll be curtains for my fandom. What a bummer.

  30. Lizzie K says:

I heart Adele, she is an amazing talent. Don’t like the hair half up, though.

  31. MonicaQ says:

I dig her voice but if her album is about her break ups, how is that different from Taylor Swift? Is it the fact she has a better voice or just acts older? Or that you hardly see her outside award shows? Or that she’s technically not pop music like Swift?

Not trolling, just a bit mystified. Like I said, I dig her voice but people are absolutely in love with her and I’m confused on the whole shabangabang.

    • Zoid says:

I think it’s because no one has to play the guessing game of which song is for which guy. Her songs are all from the same one. I also think Swift has opened herself up too much by dating a repeated series of men one after another and never lasting long. Also, everyone seems to love to hate Swift. I’ve seen people on the Kristin Stewart pages defending her actions by saying shes young, but everyone’s all like OMG SWIFTY GROW UP. They’re the same age.

      • MonicaQ says:

Yeah, I don’t dig Swift that much but that’s because I’m mostly old school where my house was Johnny Cash mixed with Earth Wind and Fire. Still, maybe it’s the bash over the head symbolism in her songs too.

Either way, thanks for that insight!

    • bluhare says:

If expressing a contrary opinion is trolling, I’m the worst troll in the world. I do like Adele, though; she’s refreshing after all the manufactured pop princesses.

Plus one thing about Adele. She sure doesn’t put her life out for public consumption!

      • MonicaQ says:

Sorry, tumblr/livejournal has trained me to get ready for the pain anytime you say anything different no matter how politely ask. 🙂 I actually hesitated for about 15 minutes before posting.

    • aims says:

Also, I think Adele has humor about herself. She is very down to earth, doesn’t take herself seriously. I also believe she is independent, meaning, she doesn’t hop around after men. Plus, she can sing!

    • FassDaActor says:

^^You’re not the only one. She has a beautiful voice though.

  32. YuYa says:

I feel like she wears this same dress at every awards show. Does she have it in every material possible?

  33. lucy2 says:

Similar to past looks, but I still liked it.
Kind of wish she’d go back to the more reddish hair rather than the blonde, but who cares, she’s lovely and talented.

I loved when she started getting emotional in her speech and just sort of laughed and waved herself off the mic.

  34. Ellie66 says:

She looks beautiful what a lovely face and her hair is too die for. The dress was sparkly but really once she starts singing (or talking) who cares what she is wearing! Just absolutely love love love her!! 😀

  35. Elceibeno says:

Adele is a wonderful singer. No fillers, just pure talent. I really wish a weight-loss program is in her agenda this year. Her health and figure will appreciate it.

  36. Julia says:

She’s gorgeous but I don’t like the bright red lipstick. She looks like a clown.

  37. suzanne says:

That dress was gorgeous and so was she. End of story

  38. Happy21 says:

Everytime I see her I am blown away by her beauty. She is just so gorgeous! Her skin, her face, her hair – all of it!

  39. Diana says:

She was so adorable on her speach! And boy does she have a gorgeous face. I love her and I love she does her thing not minding anyone. If she wants to wear black for the rest of her red carpets I don’t mind because she knows what works for her.

  40. StaCat1 says:

Loved that she wore her hair down…she is beautiful. I think she was the most stunning face/figure on the red carpet.

It doesn’t hurt that she is so genuinely excited to be part of it all and THAT voice. Amazing.

  41. Mrs.Krabapple says:

She just looks old and sad. I personally think she’s very pretty, but when she dresses like this, it looks like SHE doesn’t think she’s very pretty. Somebody should tell her that she’s “allowed” to wear colors other than black, and that she really doesn’t need the drag queen make-up.

If she wore something younger and fresher, she would look amazing. But this? No. Old and sad.

    • Kay says:

She’s said several times that she doesn’t care what she looks like, she just wants her music to be heard.
And I don’t think her style of dress is about not feeling pretty, it’s just about being comfortable. We all may have a color, cut, or style that we feel is flattering so we go with it. Adele’s happiness and light shine through her eyes and music, so most people don’t really care about what she wears. She has such an amazing personality! Especially compared to her contemporaries.

  42. truthful says:

    I love Adele!

I don’t care what she wears.

  43. Greta says:

ITA, Spinner! Her mic was too low through both choruses and all the singers and the whirling dervish violinists in the background ruined it. I could see Adele trying to adjust but the sound people were strangely inattentive!
Re: her dress and style, well, she represents the unsophisticated, local English girl who she truly is. She wears that look because that is her world, her view of loveliness, but for us in America, she looks stuck in 1960. Who cares? As long as she writes a classic song or two every year and serenades us with that devine voice….I’ll celebrate her look!
Wasn’t Barbra the Best she’s ever been on Memories? The way she phrased and caressed each vowel with real feeling (for once), just wow! All of the younger singers, hopefully, took notes last night!! What a brilliant tribute to Hamlisch!

    • Dawn says:

I love that she seems stuck in the 60’s. I love the fashion from that era. And besides with that voice she is just magical. Hope it lasts…and yes LOVED Barbara too!

  44. Jill says:

I don’t like the nails. Frankly they look gross. She looks like an old woman and the song was not all that. I feel the only reason she won is because she had been having a good year and it just seemed like they didn’t want to give it to anyone else.
I am not joining the gushing band wagon on this one.

  45. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

I’m so happy she won! Love her to bits and how beautiful is she, my god that face! Gorgeous.

  46. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

Apart from that shower cap at the Grammys isn’t this the only thing she’s ever worn?

  47. dahlianoir says:

Dear Adele, You can have my number, my name and my soul anytime you want *sigh*

  48. Maria_Spain says:

I love her music but my english is really bad so…i couldnt understand her :'(

  49. LAgirl says:

Adele is Beautiful. End of story.

  50. Amelia says:

Her performance of the Skyfall song was really boring.
