Halle Berry calls her second pregnancy ‘the biggest surprise of my life’: really?

As CB reported last Friday, Halle Berry is pregnant with her second child at the age of 46. The father is Halle’s French fiancé of some-odd two years (it feels like longer, right?), Olivier Martinez, who last made headlines for beating the crap out of Gabriel Aubry last Thanksgiving. Following Friday’s announcement/confirmation, Halle stepped out in NYC over the weekend, making an appearance at a UN event with Michael Kors. It seems that Halle and Michael are working together on a new initiative for the United Nations World Food Program, which is why Halle has given a new interview to CNN:

Halle Berry is just as shocked as everyone else, apparently, about her big baby news. In her first interview since confirming her second pregnancy at age 46, the Oscar-winning actress told CNN’s Alina Cho, “I feel fantastic!”

The baby-to-be is her second child (joining big sister Nahla, 5), and her first with fiance Olivier Martinez. Berry confided in Cho that the pregnancy caught her unawares. “This has been the biggest surprise of my life, to tell you the truth. Thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it’s been a big surprise and the most wonderful.”

Berry demurred when Cho asked if she’s expecting a boy, as sources have revealed to Us Weekly, TMZ and other outlets. “I don’t know, I don’t know. But [the baby is] healthy!”

At Berry’s side for the CNN chat with fashion designer and Project Runway judge Michael Kors, who both work with the United Nations World Food Program to fight hunger. (Berry was the guest of honor at the Four Seasons in NYC on Saturday for her work with the program.)

Berry explained that her pregnancy reminded her that many expectant women across the world struggle to feed themselves and their unborn children. “Especially now, being a pregnant woman and already having a child … it’s so important what happens to the baby while they’re in utero. And the first 1,000 days is fundamental,” said Berry, revealing her baby bump in sexy black dress by Kors. “Good nutrition during that time period is fundamental for your baby to develop properly and normally,” she added.

“I’m a mom, and that’s first and foremost, but it gives me another reason to exist, another purpose,” she said of her work with the charity. “And if I know that I’m helping one person every day in some way, that really makes me feel good, and that’s a legacy that I can leave to my children.”
The interview airs on CNN on Tuesday, April 8 at 12pm EST.

[From Us Weekly]

I’m including the video below – I’m a little bit confused when Halle says that this pregnancy was a “the biggest surprise”. Even Alina Cho threw some momentary shade with a quick “Really?” So I guess this means that Halle didn’t undergo fertility treatments? Or is she just playing coy, like: “I did the fertility treatments but I was totally surprised that they worked!”? I think Halle is really saying that this pregnancy happened naturally. I mean, it happens. It’s not outside of the realm of possibilities or probabilities. Hm… don’t mind me, I’ll just quietly sit here giving Halle a side-eye though.

(PS… Now I know why Halle’s boobs looked so amazing in Hawaii, right? Pregnancy boobs.)

I’ll assume she just thought it was menopause

    • moon says:

      LOL

She’s got an amazing body for a 46 year old though. Wish I could say the same about mine

    • Maria_Spain says:

      +1
      XD

    • Anonny says:

46 and pregnant here. Yep, thought I was late due to perimenopause. Shock of our lives.

I wouldn’t try and expect good results at our age, but it can happen…UNassisted, WITH your own egg.

I asked the doc how the hell this happened and she shrugged and said, “You have the body of someone 10+ years younger.” And I ain’t got nothin’ on Halle.

      • Paloma says:

I just watched Golden Girls last night. How I adored that show!

This comment was directed to Amanda T. Don’t know why it showed up here.

      • ya says:

        wow – congratulations!!

Either way works with Halle – she could just be unexpectedly pregnant naturally, or she could be surprised that fertility treatments worked. I’d probably be shocked – in either case – too if I were her.

Edit to add – she did clarify in the interview that she was surprised because she thought she was past the point where being pregnant again could be a reality for her…. so ya her meaning could be either.

      • Isabell says:

        Congrats!

    • Amanda T says:

Even though the stories were flipped, this reminds me of that one Golden Girls episode where Blanche thinks she’s pregnant but it’s really menopause:

Blanche: I don’t know what I’m gonna do about Jason. He’s reached a point in his life where he’s anxious to settle down, he wants us to have another child right away. Well frankly, I don’t know if I want another baby so soon.

Dorothy: I understand. Wait a couple of years and… [stars to laugh] Medicare will pay for it.

Sophia: Why wait? Have it now and the Enquirer will pay for it!

      • sallee draper says:

The crazy thing is Amanda T that I am such a big Golden Girls fan that I know you described 2 different episodes. That episode you quoted is from an episode titled “Even Grandmas get The Blues” from season 6.And it was about Blanche lying to impress a man by pretending that her grand daughter was her own daughter. She thought she was pregnant in season 2. And went to therapy to deal with menopause when she wasn’t.From one GG fan to another,I am just trying to help.:)

      • ladybert62 says:

Dang, I miss the Golden Girls – Your little story was very funny and made me laugh out loud! Thanks!

      • Noi says:

loving GG like i do you have the epis mixed up. with Jason she was with her granbaby from her ex-model daughter
        &&
when she thought she was pregnant she was on a wild weekend. couldn’t pin down the who, what or where. they where trying to breed minx.

      • Sassy says:

Love, Love the Golden Girls also! Betty White is the only one left. Did anyone see Katie when Mary Tyler Moore, Betty and other cast members were on? MTM looked really frail. Wonder how her health is holding up. Rhoda, who is terminally ill, seemed perky as ever.

    • la chica says:

Or maybe it’s pseudocyesis…Hysterical pregnancies by women who desperately wish to be pregnant is a genuine psychological phenomenon.

  2. Len says:

    Her boyfriend is so dorky.

    • DeltaJuliet says:

You’re so right. But I remember when he was hot as hell. What a fall from grace he had.

      • V4Real says:

Remember him in Unfaithful with Diane Lange; now he’s just a raging lunatic with impulse control issues.

      • TQB says:

Right? that was my only thought about the Hawaii pics. Sure, Halle’s boobs look great, but WHAT has happened to Olivier???

      • Sassy says:

Yes, what happened to Olivier’s looks? He was gorgeous in “Unfaithful”. I wasn’t sure it was the same person.

  3. Winnie says:

there was a blind gossip post about this awhile ago, like January? so doubt it was some huge surprise to her. it is said that olivier is pretty much keeping to himself about it though… so maybe, not what he wanted?

    • ladybert62 says:

Haha – good one – could be he was thinking of walking and she pulled the oldest trick in the book??????

  4. Dea says:

Happy for Nahla to have a sibling.

  5. Leek says:

I’m by no means a fan of hers, however, I could buy this. I have a client who couldn’t get pregnant in her 30s and she said something changed in her 40s and she became über fertile and that’s when she had her kids. She said it was really weird. She is totally sane though so there is that difference.

    • Liv says:

It’s not impossible, but I think if they really do know the gender at this point they had fertility treatments.

      • Sabrine says:

Who cares how she got pregnant? It’s irrelevant although some people seem almost obsessed as to the method of conception. As she said, at her age it was a surprise regardless of how it happened

I think she has also come to terms
        with Aubry.

      • Liv says:

Oh my gosh, calm down. I’m not obesessed with her. It’s just pretty early to know the gender of the baby.

      • Becky1 says:

They probably did CVS (a type of prenatal test). With CVS you can find out the gender at 11-13 weeks.

I actually believe Halle when she said she was surprised. I don’t think she had IVF (but even if she did-who cares). Maybe she was taking Clomid and was surprised that it worked? Or maybe it really was a total serendipitous surprise. Rachel Dratch from SNL had an unplanned pregnancy at 44. It’s unusual but it happens.

    • TorontoE says:

Agree. Some women have actually too much estrogen when they are younger, but as they age it decreases and makes the women fertile. I know someone who adopted 2 kids in her 30s and then had 2 herself in her 40s. Plus HB is kinda a genetic miracle anyhow…

    • JenD says:

Agreed. I’m 39 and am having a surprise pregnancy since I was told years ago it wasn’t going to happen.

      • Tulip says:

        @Jen D.
Wow! Congratulations and hang in there-I’m sure you’ll do great!

      • Poink517 says:

        Congrats!! That is wonderful!

      • JenD says:

Thanks! Super happy – starting my 3rd trimester this week. 🙂

      • cs says:

Congrats to you!! My sister had her first baby at 41 years old without fertility treatments. Got Pregnant one month after her wedding. However, Halle told the world how many pregnancy tests she had before getting pregnant with Nahla at 41 years old.. I believe 30 +. Halle is going to be 47 in a few short months. I could believe it was naturally and a surprise if she had a few children in her younger years e.g. The Duggars.. or others who started in the 20’s, 30;s. For minority women, menopause starts a couple years younger (mostly 48-49) than caucasian women.

    • swack says:

I agree. My mom got married at 20 and did not have children until her 30’s. Since there was no birth control then, it was for some other reason. They did what tests they could at the time and found nothing.

    • Nonan says:

IVF in women at age 45, 46 where they use their own eggs have very, very low success rates. If you don’t believe me, just check out the SART statistics for every clinic in the USA.

      • Quasi says:

        But not impossible.

My friend was 46 when she conceived with her own eggs. Another was pregnant at 47 using a donor egg.

  6. Suze says:

However Halle wants to spin it….

But congrats to them. And here’s hoping for a healthy baby.

  7. Hannah says:

It is possible, I guess. I do remember her talking about how much “work” went into conceiving Nahla naturally, though.

    • Lucinda says:

Possible but not probable. I know many women who got pregnant naturally in their early 40’s but no one in mid-late 40’s. Not saying it isn’t possible. Just saying I don’t believe it because of who’s saying it.

  8. PHD Gossip says:

Bet she had a frozen embryo in the freezer.

  9. Barrett says:

I don’t believe this one bit. I work for a hospital fertility program. She did something and side eye, the surprise is it worked. She has the money.

    • Kim says:

If you work for hospital than you know fertility treatments don’t always work. My sister tried to get pregnant for five years and gave up due to cost in 2010.She became pregnant in 2012 and it was a surprise. Also it’s rare but a woman her age can get knocked up.Also she doesn’t know the sex I hope it’s a girl Nahla prayed for a sister.

    • Lucinda says:

I think she might mean she’s surprised the fertility treatments worked but has intentionally left it vague so people can assume she got pregnant naturally. Then when it comes out later that it was treatments, she can point out she never said she got pregnant naturally. I think she knows exactly what she’s saying. I give a lot of people the benefit of the doubt but not Halle. Not anymore.

      • lena80 says:

I wasn’t aware HB or any woman for the matter owed strangers an explanation for how they got pregnant. HB said she was surprised…why can’t it be just that as it could apply to treatments or regular ole conception?

  10. Anmelt says:

Totally possible. My aunt went to a reunion and saw her classmate, at the time 53. She had been a career woman all along and never had time for a baby so never started a family with her husband. So my aunt asked her, who is this cute baby you are holding. She said it was hers and she totally thought she was going through menopause but ended up with a newborn at 52.

    • Suzy says:

      OMFG, I would absolutely die…

Well, I wouldn’t DIE but you get my drift.

Also I totally call BS on this being a “surprise”

      • alc says:

Agreed. I just keep thinking of the 20+ years down the road when little Angry Martinez Jr. is graduating high school and his mom is what, 66? And kids are a hell of a lot of work and I just wouldn’t have the energy at her age and certainly not at 52 (my age). I know, she’ll have a nanny. It will be interesting to see how the dynamics change with Nahla and Olivier and Aubry now. I just think they are all way too screwed up to be bringing another kid into this mess.

  11. Granger says:

Man, her boyfriend always looks so angry, doesn’t he? I know, I know, I’m only seeing pics of him when he’s being followed by paps, but he gives me a weird vibe.

    • Paloma says:

If I passed him on the street I would not make eye contact because he scares me. I hope he never turns his anger on H, N, or Junior.

    • princesslizabeth says:

His body language is certainly interesting. I hope he is nicer in private life, because he doesn’t look at all friendly in these photos.

  12. RuddyZooKeeper says:

    I hate those damned jeans.

  13. Barrett says:

    Not possible. Donor egg.

    • PHD Gossip says:

Either donor egg or frozen embryo from years ago.

      • JL says:

Totally possible, My mother had my youngest sister at 46, conceived and delivered naturally.

The sister is just fine, no issues what so ever.

      • Sarah says:

My mother was almost 40, my dad in his 40’s and I was born the day before their 18th wedding anniversary! Surprise!

    • paranormalgirl says:

      Possible, not probable, but possible.

      • ldub says:

        THIS^^^^^^
        THIS FOR DAYS.

      • princesslizabeth says:

        +1

      • paranormalgirl says:

It can and does happen. One good egg, one good sperm, one viable environment and it takes. Like I said, it’s not probable, but it is definitely possible and this is coming from someone with an MD after her name (albeit my specialty is psychiatry, I still had to do a rotation in OB/GYN).

    • stopalready says:

What is wrong with you people? I can’t stand Halle but this CAN happen.
I had my 3rd at 44 after skipping birth control ONCE. Believe me, it WAS a surprise.
Yes lots of people have a drop in fertility but not ALL. Like my OB said “it only takes one good egg”.

      • Suze says:

There’s nothing wrong with people here.

Yes, it’s possible the whole thing was perfectly natural, a complete surprise, but it’s also a lot more possible that it was not.

      • V4Real says:

It is very possible for women Halle’s age to get pregnant; I know two women, one got pregnant at the age of 45 and my friend was Halle’s age. They conceived the natural way. Trust me these ladies couldn’t afford fertility treatments, one of them was an unplanned pregnancy. I don’t understand why people are acting like this is mission impossible. Most women don’t go through menopause until around 50 and it is likely if you’re still having your monthly cycle you can indeed get pregnant. Doctors just usually warn against pregancy because these women are long past the gestational age which can put the fetus at risk for health problems such as down syndrome.

I just find it hard to believe that Halle said she didn’t know since people are saying she already has a baby bump.

    • Justme says:

My great-grandmother had 13 children – her last was born when she was 47. (They all lived by the way!) Since she was living in rural 19th century Ireland, I doubt if she used a “donor egg”.

      It certainly can happen.

  14. Elisabeth says:

It’s not her age that bothers me about her having another baby. Its the fact that she doesn’t even consider the feelings of the child she has now? She allows the situation between her ex and current to escalate to them beating the shit out of each other? Did she consider how this effects her daughter? I’ve always thought she was bat-shit crazy and now she has two kids to bring into the mess

    • Anonny says:

This is *exactly* what people should be concerned about…instead they’re choosing to focus on whether the child was conceived naturally or with assistance. What does that matter?

  15. dorothy says:

Ummm, sure. Had to lasso Oliver in for the kill. Poor s.o.b.’s in for a tough next few years. Custody battles, public trashings…gotta feel for this guy.

    • Mink says:

Idk. I think his crazy may just trump her crazy.

    • Tiffany says:

I agree Dorothy. There seems to be a pattern with her. The men have money but don’t have her type of wealth and she thinks that she can break them down that way but ir seems to blow up in her face. With the last husband and not Gabriel. Sometimes you have to take a look in the mirror and think maybe its you.

      • Sarah says:

True enough. Martinez could be the next Eric Benet/ Gabriel Aubrey. Wow, is it ever going to look different from the other side of the fence, Olivier.

  16. Merritt says:

Does it really matter? It can happen. Before tubal litigation and vasectomy became more common (and of course contraception in general), many women had what was known as a “change of life” baby.

    • Dawn says:

Absolutely correct. I am happy for her because I do believe that she loves being a mother. However I do hope that Oliver will work on his terrible temper.

  17. TG says:

I am thinking Olivier is more than happy to have this child. I mean he is her hired thug so now he can continue to earn a loving for the next 21 years or so. I despise these 2 monsters

  18. janie says:

Does it matter? I just think the dad looks so unhappy. She’s not a very good judge of character & this guy is a real hot head & she is as well.

    • DeltaJuliet says:

“She’s not a very good judge of character ”

Understatement of the year, right there 😀

      • bluecalling says:

that is true… yet everyone thinks gabe is soooo great. see why some think the hate and conjured theories are overboard?

She will always go with the bad boy, they treat her badly, and she (rightfully) defends her self then (wrongfully) goes ballistic based on her character / past experience, forgetting that it is her own (un)doing. We all know people like that. Just wonder why everyone’s so hard on her for it. At least she fights back (rhianna).

Regardless, big congrats, happiness and placid heads. It would be super to spend parts of ones childhood in another country, such perspective.

  19. lem says:

Did I JUST read where she said Nahla was asking for a sibling and she thought “this is something that I can provide her with”?!?! and now she’s claiming it was a surprise?! bullshit. she got pregnant on purpose. which is perfectly fine, just don’t lie about it.

    • Kim says:

Lem that is not true She told Wendy William her daughter asked for bunk bed and sister. Halle said well one of them I can get, the bed, the other is going to take a lot of praying. So stop repeating lies the interview is online.

  20. fabgrrl says:

I think it’s possible, even probable. Doesn’t the body sometimes go through a super fertile stage shortly before menopause?

However, this being Crazy Halle, she could be totally lying or exaggerating.

  21. Hipocricy says:

The rule : as long as you are not in a menauposal stage, as long as you have your period and produce a monthly follicule, you can get pregnant, wether you are twenty or 45 or more.

The thing is, the chances of having good eggs decrease with age, hence you miscarry a lot more as you ages, even without noticing it cause passing it as your period…that’s nature that does its job naturally when the egg isn’t good, so it terminates the pregnancy prematurely.

The key word is CHANCE, and as long as you have eggs, there is a chance, tiny as you age but a chance nonetheless…

It only needs one single good egg at the right time and boom, you’re pregnant !

The IVF treatment, produce or multiply artificially the number of eggs you have monthly with side effects (endometris getting thinner if done too many times for example), hence more chances of finding in the group at least a good egg but since its artificially done, it’s not always the BEST selected egg that only nature would have chosen hence also here many more misscarriage than if you had fallen pregnant the natural way.

  22. swack says:

Didn’t read this article, but anyone who has sex and doesn’t use any kind of protection has the possiblity of getting pregnant.

  23. Dena says:

Glad to here about the charity work she & Michael Kors are doing with the UN.

Congrats to Halle & Olivier & Big Sis Nahla.

  24. Jen34 says:

I got pregnant at 45, but miscarried due to bad egg quality. My husband and I were not pleased with the pregnancy, but started to come around when I miscarried. Moral of the story is to always use bc unless you want to risk a pregnancy.

  25. HotPockets says:

One of my friend’s moms had two children in her 40’s, one at 41 and the last one at 44 and they were both conceived without fertility treatments, so it is possible. Both of the children were born healthy and without any complications too. I think at the end of the day pregnancy is more about how healthy you are post baby than your age. I can’t speak for Halle’s mental health though, she is nuts.

  26. LurkeeLee says:

I agree with those saying maybe Halle used a frozen embryo left over from when she was trying to conceive Nahla. If so, maybe her ex Gabe is the bio daddy? That would be a scandal.

    • GByeGirl says:

Wow–I bet that would end up in a major lawsuit. She is already fighting with him about custody issues. I wonder if she is just crazy enough to do that to him? The ethical implications make my head swim!

  27. ctkat1 says:

Well, we know that Halle underwent fertility treatments to get pregnant with Nahla, so my bet is that she had some frozen embryos left over.
She and Olivier decided to give it a go, and I guess the surprise is that the pregnancy took. Even with frozen eggs and IVF, the odds are far below 50%.

  28. TG says:

This woman is doing everything she can to rehab her image. How can a charity want somoene who has no problem with their current fling beating the crap out of the father of her child? And then a month later deciding that he was good father material and getting pregnant with his child?

  29. lola lola says:

Its really a disservice for celebrities to lie about whether they had fertility treatments or not (Hello JLo). It makes normal women feel bad about themselves because they can’t get pregnant at 46….Incidentally, the odds of getting pregnant with a healthy baby at 46 is similar to being struck by lightening–twice.

    • Sabrine says:

Halle has already said it happened naturally. What more can she say? If you don’t believe her, that’s your problem.

      • truthSF says:

What’s said and what’s the truth is never the same thing when it comes to Scary hit and run Berry.

  30. Stephers says:

I think the “big surpise” was that IVF worked at her age. Go google the success rates for women over 40 then check out women over 45.

Oh how I would love to be at a lunch with her and Kelly Preston giggling over the bubbly about their “surprise pregnancies” 🙂 jk

  31. Ag says:

This sort of makes me go “ugh”. I hope the crazy drama will stop, for the baby’s sake, but I doubt it because Halle already has one kid and she hasn’t toned down (or stayed away from) the crazy.

  32. F5 says:

She sure knows hot to pick ’em.

Incredible that the current boyfriend is an ex-boxer with a recent history of violence.. a man who beat up her ex, left his other girlfriend when she was undergoing chemo.
    Halle’s grade A nuts.

  33. MsGoblin says:

    All pissed-off here.

Multiple miscarriages and failed IVF ALL before the age of 43.

    And I’m SANE.

    ::::sigh::::

  34. lucy says:

    Olivier looks like a pill.

And so you mean that the biggest surprise of her life WASN’T that Olivier pounded Aubrey on Thanksgiving?

    hmmm.

    • TG says:

Of course that wasn’t a surprise that was well planned by her, that thug, likley her laywers with some nice consulting by the LAPD. Someone on here commented that if Gabriel is so violent which she has claimed than why did she not have any cameras trained inside her property to record drop offs? This was a set up indeed. Also, why didn’t she come outside to break up the fight? She and that thug are losers and violent monsters. I can’t stand her. Trying to move to France just because of her latest fling, of course I think she got with this thug as part of a grand plan to move to France. So when this relationship tanks and she starts dating a Russian is she going to want to move there too? When does it end. I think this baby is just another part of her plan to take her daugther away from Gabriel.

  35. Alana Fajina says:

Well I guess it serves me right for clicking on this article, but One Big Fat

    UGH.

  36. Dap says:

Sure, she might have gotten pregnant naturally, but that’s certainly not the most likely explanation and her heavy insistence makes it even more suspisious.
She most probably got pregnant intentionnally as a mean to overcome the thanksgiving scandal, restore her public image and retain Martinez by her side. Or (less likely but with HB, you never know…), she got pregnant by using a frozen embryo made with Aubry. That would surely explain why she doesn’t want anyone to know. And why Martinez seems so p*** of.

  37. Jessica says:

My uncle’s mom was 51 when she had him, and that was way before IVF. It can happen.

  38. skuddles says:

Biggest surprise? Sure Halle… because you obviously didn’t know how babies were made right?

I still think she got preggers on purpose as a ploy to get the courts to let her move to France. This latest yak about how she won’t move there until Nahla is 18 is pure crap… no way she’d give up that easily.

  39. Mrs.Krabapple says:

I agree with the others who said while it’s not impossible for it to have happened naturally, it is more likely to have been IVF. Much, much, much, much, much more likely.

I understand these things can be personal, in which case DON’T DISCUSS IT AT ALL. But I hate when they lie about it. It’s like lying about plastic surgery — (1) they must think we’re all stupid; and (2) it’s as if they’re saying, “well, OTHER women might need help (in looking younger or conceiving), but NOT ME because I’m just sooooooo genetically superior to other women.”

She should just stfu and not say anything.

    • not born yesterday says:

She doesn’t seem far enough along to confidently say the baby is healthy if things happened “naturally” — i.e. after an amnio, you have to wait a couple of weeks for the results which usually takes you to about 20 weeks and you are showing. With IVF, they would test for genetic abnormalities prior to implanting the fetus.

She has the resources to take advantage of the most advanced medical technologies and have access to the best care and there’s no shame in that. Why lie about it?

OMG again. CVS testing which is similar to early amnio is preformed between 10 and 12 weeks and you have the results in a couple days. It has been around at least 15 years considering I had one in 2000 and it wasn’t a “brand new” technology.
Now return to your she’s too old and she’ll have a 2 headed baby and she can’t know the sex discussion.
I really am beginning to think that most of the haters are jealous! AND uninformed.

Stopalready – sorry to pick apart your argument, but CVS is not the same as an amnio — higher risk of miscarriage &CVS does not provide the same information. Given the choice as a 40+ mom, I took the amnio despite the wait time. I can understand Halle’s desire to have some certainty prior to continuing with a pregnancy but I think too that she had IVF.

Also, I fail to see the “hatred” in the comment you responded to. But then again, I’ve been out of highschool for quite some time.

Please…my aunt got pregnant at 49..it happens. Big deal.

  41. Bings says:

People are missing a very important point. If she needed artificial help to have Nahla when she was younger at 41, do you really believe it happened naturally now that she is five years older? So her eggs have the Benjamin Button syndrome and are now becoming younger and of better quality?

  42. Jenny says:

It’s been my experience that some women just get very jealous and upset when older women have kids. I’m not sure why? A friend of mine had an incredible career with a lot of world travel and exciting experiences -while most of her friends settled down and were married. So many of them told her- oh she’s old now to have kids. The pity effect. Then she married an incredible man-at 45- got pregnant immediately. She now has a beautiful baby boy and a happy marriage. Meanwhile many of those so-called “friends” are in the middle of nasty divorces.

She had the best of both worlds and I am so happy for her. It can happen. My grandmother also had my mom-youngest of 6 kids at age 43. That was back in 1940.

People should just chill and let nature take its course. Why the hostility She is beautiful, successful and now is thrilled to have a baby on the way at 46- get over it. It’s happening.

Women are catty & competitive creatures. Your friend sounds like a very interesting person.

    • Dredz says:

Yes, my best friend’s aunt got healthy twins at the age of 46!!! That’s 7 years after her second son. 100% natural, totally unexpected and it was an easy pregnancy even!.

  43. Victoria says:

Gabriel is a gorgeous man. Why hasn’t he had tons of beautiful children by models and thereby dampening Halle’s control over his only child?

I remember Unfaithful & Oliver was amazing! So, so sexy!

  44. Isabell says:

I’ve had several women in my family have babies after the age 44. My Doc told me sometimes before your body enters into menopause your hormones/eggs may become more ‘active.’ One last hoorah. Its very possible it was a surprise.

  45. lena80 says:

I don’t get why people are picking apart her comment. Has everyone forgot that she IS 46 and conceiving at her is age whether through treatments OR the old fashion way would be a surprise for anyone? I get people don’t “like” this random stranger, BUT lets try to think LOGICALLY here. My Grandmom had my Aunt at 43 AFTER suffering two miscarriages. It can happen people.

  46. Grace says:

I’m confused as to why people are startled at her being pregnant at 46. In my family that happens quite often.

    • Jayna says:

Because she’s probably been having sex for years umprotected, first with her ex and now Oliver, and never got pregnant again. So it probably was a shock.

  47. Nonan says:

    Surprise?

    No it wasn’t, Halle.

  48. K Paiva says:

Ummm….1,000 days??? That’s a new gestation period. Lol!

  49. Ravensdaughter says:

If it was a surprise, cool on her. I am sure she wanted another child; hope this child fares better than Nahla.
All stars adore their own spawn-narcissism at its finest.
I will also take her “event” as a hint that with my mid-40’s single social life heating up, perhaps I should rethink birth control. Some people are better equipped to handle surprises than others.
Also, I was a surprise-another sign not to tempt fate!.

  50. dee says:

If a woman says she is surprised by her pregnancy and seems to convey that it is a pleasant and welcome surprise then the only proper reaction of even her closest friends, let alone total strangers is “Congratulations!” Any further speculation is crude.

  51. GByeGirl says:

Well, I just hope that everything works out. I’m almost 39 and I’m too scared to have another baby. No judgment regarding women who have babies when they are older, but I’m just personally so scared of the possibility of Downs/Autism/birth defects. I feel like I won the lottery with my 17 year old daughter and that I’d be “tempting fate” by trying again.

I do notice that people who have kids later in life seem to stay more youthful longer, however. I don’t know if it’s my imagination, or if it’s because they need to continue working longer to afford college plus retirement? Whatever makes people happy. I’m still trying to decide…
