Keri Russell: ‘Now my butt’s gone. I do wish I had my 25-year-old butt!’

Keri Russell

Keri Russell covers the May issue of Women’s Health magazine to promote her role as a KGB agent in FX’s latest darling, “The Americans,” and to show off her extremely toned tummy with a headline that reads “BEST. ABS. EVER.” Keri is both 37 years old and mother to two young children (River, 5, and Willa, 1), and her washboard abs are crazy insane. I remember noting that Keri looked super tiny a few months ago at the FX premiere of “The Amercans,” but she looks very healthy and toned on this cover. She’s complaining a lot about her butt in this interview, which I think she attributes to aging but it’s probably more of a case of her low body weight. Here are some more abs and some excerpts:

Keri Russell

On staying fit after babies: “[I have] this really nerdy workout I do in my walk-through closet in our brownstone. I do a workout video and use my own music — whatever is inspiring to me at that time, like Alabama Shakes, the Cure, or Mumford and Sons.”

She eats healthy … now: “I don’t think I ate a green vegetable until I was 30. I didn’t grow up with a mom who enforced that at all.”

On getting older: “I’m not a complainer about age. I think my girlfriends all look so much better now than they did 15 years ago. But the thing I notice most is my butt. I used to have a really good, plump butt. Ugh — now my butt’s gone. I do wish I had my 25-year-old butt!”

Living in NYC keeps her slim: “My number one healthy tip? Everyone should dance more. Everyone should walk more. I mean that’s one of the great things about living in Brooklyn and in New York. You get to eat a big rich fatty meal but then you can walk home.””

[From Women’s Health]

I definitely see what Keri’s saying about New York City. Everytime I visit, I do notice that all of the (non-tourists) appear to be in incredible physical shape because they generally walk several miles per day! That’s what happens when one has to dash from home to subway station to work on a daily basis, and it’s just not practical to drive in Manhattan or most of the other boroughs when traffic is so terrible and parking fees are outrageous.

This photoshoot is quite lovely though. I do like this particular black and white shot the most. I’m glad Keri is back on a successful television series, and we’ll surely be seeing more of her very soon.

She looks fantastic!!!! Felicity forever! ๐Ÿ™‚

ps: Jen Garner became more famous than her? Who would’ve thought?!

pps: I love NYC! Every time I go there, I walk and walk and walk. Same here in MA.

    • minime says:

OMG I loved Keri Russell in Felicity and never realized Jennifer Garner was also in there!! So long ago ๐Ÿ™‚

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

I loved her so much in Felicity.

Generally, urbanites are in better shape. We have more time to work out because we don’t have to deal with long commutes, but mainly it’s just because we walk EVERYWHERE.
I usually walk 7 miles a day in addition to my daily run.

    Love her.

  5. Miss M says:

@bedhead: By the way, we have the Boston marathon today.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yeah and I think I’m one of like, four people that’s actually working :/

      • Marigold says:

Same here. All the crowd, none of the fun.

        @originalkitten
I’ve been a long time lurker on celebitchy and have always enjoyed your comments but Ive never posted anything. I just wanted to say that I hope you and your loved ones are safe today. Such tragic and terrible news. Hope all our Boston celebitches are safe.

      • Charlotte says:

Just want to add my hopes that everyone who posts from Boston and surrounding areas is safe. Woke up to the news this morning. Horrid.

    • karmasabiatch! says:

      Yep, love Felicity

So glad this thread has lent itself to commenting about the tragedy in Boston. Prayers for everyone there, blessings and healing to the injured. Love and Godspeed to those who, sadly, lost their lives. ๐Ÿ™

I am sickened that something like this has happened again. Boston – we love you, weโ€™re praying for you and sending healing karma your way. <3 <3

    • Miss M says:

I just came back to this thread because I remember posting about the marathon. I did not see there were replies until today

@TheoriginalKitten: I was working from home too and got upset that I got stuck working and couldn’t go to the finish line. Now I feel really lucky that I had to stay. Thanks everyone for all the wishes.

I really like Keri and here she is looking awesome. Glad her tv comeback is a success.

  7. Barrett says:

A few years ago, I saw her randomly in a New York City deli near Washington square park with her hubby. She was gorgeous, just perfection. And her hair was like unbelievable.

  8. Sara says:

I love her! I just watched Felicity all seasons for the first time a couple of months ago on Hulu! I was totally addicted. I thought she was almost too thin back then though. She must just naturally be a tiny girl.

  9. mkyarwood says:

Yeah, but what about those unlimited orgasms?

  10. Frenzy says:

    Love Felicity! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. BLA says:

I completely agree with the NYC comment! I moved from working an office job in Brooklyn to working from home in Raleigh, NC, and I’ve gained 15-20 lbs in less than 10 months. Even though I’ve added working out to four nights of my week, I haven’t lost a pound after three months of doing so. It’s pretty depressing.

    • Jenny says:

I know. I’m still close to NYC, in CT, but it is the complete opposite of the city in terms of walkability. I miss walking!! It is pleasant, doesn’t feel like exercise and really keeps the weight off. (I also lived in a 4th floor walk up brownstone) I never had to go to the gym.

  12. GoodCapon says:

I think she’s good in The Americans but Matthew Rhys just knocks it out of the park every single time. It’s too early to say “Give him an Emmy!” but I do hope he gets some kind of recognition, one way or another.

    • anotherrandom says:

I think Kerri Russell is doing an amazing job on The Americans. Or the writers…both? I feel so many different emotions for her character. I feel like I can relate to her except obviously not in so many ways. I guess that’s more a testament to the writers and character development. Either way, I love the show!

  13. Mew says:

She’s in great shape and if she wants butt, she should start lifting heavy weights – squats, deadlifts etc.. it’s up to genetics, but that’s how butts are made.

  14. Dawn says:

I love her…she is the whole package. She is talented, she is pretty, she is family oriented and she is NOT full of herself and she has a banging body. And if you are NOT watching her show The Americans, you need to give it a try as it really is good. Thatโ€™s the great thing about talent; it lasts forever whereas looks fade. We need more like her and less so called reality โ€œstarsโ€.

  15. Reality says:

Wow.That is some crazy photoshop/airbrushing. I’m sure she looks great naturally, & I’d love to see the before pics. But, sheesh….why so much photoshop?

  16. Holden says:

I was checking her butt out on the Americans the other day, she looks great.

  17. JC says:

I rewatched Felicity again last year and as a show, it aged really well. It was still so, so good.

Love Keri. She looks amazing and she seems to have her head screwed on really straight.

  18. Jenna says:

Ah, Felicity! I love her! So pretty! And I will say that I have ridiculously toned calves and legs because of NYC walking. One of the pluses of living here. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. lucy2 says:

It is amazing what walking a lot more can do. I wish I could walk to my work!

I’ve always liked Keri, and I’m glad she’s got herself a great new show.

  20. Annette says:

I thought there would be more harsh skinny bashing on this thread than there is. I think Keri looks good at both weights.

  21. Andrea says:

I greatly enjoyed Felicity when it first came out and again last year when I rewatched it. The americans imo shows the depths that keri Russell can do as an actress.

As for living in an urban environment, I moved to Toronto from the states and promptly lost 7 lbs in 2 months just from the walking. I wish all areas encouraged walking over driving, there would be far less obese people around. I also notice that here and in places like NYC, obese people are rarely seen. I feel that the general society in urban environments encourages healthier lifestyle/eating (walking more, fruit and veggie markets etc).

  22. Agnetha says:

I do wish I had her flat stomach!

    • Becky1 says:

Yeah, me too! I would love to have those abs.

I get what she’s saying about losing your butt as you age. That happened to me. I used to have a cute, shapely butt but now it’s gotten kind of flat (I’m 40). I have a boyish/straight up and down shape and as I get older my rear end gets smaller. I don’t like how my clothes hang in the back.

  23. Bijlee says:

That’s one of the reasons were so FAT down here in the south. This and our delicious double fried food. Lol. I have to rely on my car for everything. And it sucks. Having a car is stressful. I want to move to an urban area so bad with excellent transportation just to experience it once in my life. When your car breaks down you can be at a real loss about what to do because you basically have no way to get home. And then you just get screwed over.

  24. RHONYC says:

i’m not mad at her by any means.

looks like she got her belly in shape with good ol’ fashion exercise & not with any crappy lipo.

    kudos. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  25. Amanda says:

Jesus she’s so gorgeous! I totally understand why my husband likes her… LOL
