Snoop Dogg admits to his pimp past: ‘a lot of athletes bought p—y from me’

Snoop Dogg

Okay, this has been a few months coming, but I’m taking a stance on Calvin “Snoop” Broadus. I realize that the former rap star wishes to refashion himself into a reggae musician, but I simply refuse to refer to him as “Snoop Lion.” For one, the reggae in question is outrageously awful, and two, the guy made millions by rapping, “Bow-wow-wow-yippie-yo-yippie-yay” can just live with the Snoop Dogg moniker for life, m’kay?

Don’t get me wrong, I harbor a very soft spot for Snoop that is filled by my secret desire to vicariously peace out and enjoy some Mary Jane, but there’s no way in hell that I’d ever indulge that whim. For one, pot always made me crave beef nachos, and I’ve been a vegetarian for two decades, which complicates things somewhat. Surely, you must understand. Still, I gave Snoop some leeway when he recently discussed his real-life past as a gangster, and most of you agreed in the comments as well that it’s very difficult to hold anything against Snoop. Dogg.

Now Snoop has spoken with Rolling Stone in an effort (I guess) to promote his new reggae, peace-loving self. As such, he’s admitted that all of the talk of being a “pimp” wasn’t only for show, and Snoop claims that he was really pimping chicks out. But he let them keep the money! Does this make you love him any less?

Snoop Dogg

When Snoop Dogg called himself a “pimp” back in 2003, he wasn’t joking. “I put an organization together,” the rapper-turned Rasta artist Snoop Lion tells contributing editor Jonah Weiner in the new issue of Rolling Stone. “I did a Playboy tour, and I had a bus follow me with ten bitches on it. I could fire a bitch, f— a bitch, get a new ho: It was my program. City to city, t–ty to t–ty, hotel room to hotel room, athlete to athlete, entertainer to entertainer.”

While he doesn’t name names, he claims professional athletes would use his services. “If I’m in a city where where the Denver Broncos or the Nuggets play, I get a couple of they players to come hang out, pick and choose, and whichever one you like comes with a number,” he says. “A lot of athletes bought p—y from me.”

Unlike most pimps, Snoop says he let his women keep the money. “I’d act like I’d take the money from the bitch, but I’d let her have it,” he says. “It was never about the money; it was about the fascination of being a pimp . . . As a kid I dreamed of being a pimp, I dreamed of having cars and clothes and bitches to match. I said, ‘F— it – I’m finna do it.'”

Somehow, Snoop’s relationship with his wife Shante Broadus has survived all this. “My wife had to take a backseat to this sh-t,” he says. “And I love her to this day because she coulda shook out on a n—a, but she stayed in my corner. So when I decided to let it go, she was still there.”

[From Rolling Stone]

I don’t know about you, but all of these recent Snoop confessions make me fear that “Murder Was The Case” wasn’t just a song either. His recent trend of admissions is leading down a very dangerous path, and I’m wondering if Snoop is truly feeling more righteous and confessing his sins for a valid reason (possibly to influence youth?) or whether he’s merely feeding the media scandalous sh-t to pimp his new album. Of course, I have no problem believing that he truly pimped chicks out for Playboy. I assume that these women were willing participants for a celebrity, but that doesn’t make the practice any more revolting. Nor does Snoop absolve himself of any guilt by claiming that he let these chicks keep the money. After all, it’s not like he’s hurting for cash.

I don’t think anything Snoop could say would shock me, he’s never lied about who he is, he just simply is..

  2. JenD says:

Ugh. I thought Snoop Lion was a joke. And admitting he was a pimp is just not cool. It’s gross.

    • Birdix says:

it’s disgusting. As is everyone being ok with it because he’s so charming and because it may not have been as bad for the women as being on a street corner. Honestly even the levity with which this is reported “beef nachos” rankles. If Snoop had a daughter or a sister, can you imagine her on that bus? Why about your sister? Why does anyone support this? Where’s the Chris Brown level outrage?

    • ChelseaNotHandler says:

Thank you for not calling him Snoop Lion. What a joke! Even snoop doggy dogg is better.

  3. Cirque28 says:

After that situation in Cleveland this week, I have no stomach for hearing about why it’s so cool and glamorous and exciting for men to own women.

    • gg says:

      Here, here.

    • aims says:

      Ahem!!

    • Just Me says:

      YUP.

    • Xera says:

Me neither, I’ve reached a point of digust where these stories make me physically sick

    • Liv says:

I so agree. Disgusting. Does he not own a brain? He sounds unbelievably stupid.

    • Nicolette says:

+1000. Not to mention the fact that his referring to women as ‘bitches’ ‘ho’s’ and ‘p***y’ is beyond degrading.

    • Zigggy says:

      No kidding.

    • Vickyb says:

      Thank you for saying this.

I can’t fathom how it’s ok for him to ‘act like he was going to take the money, and then let them have it’. Sounds like intimidation and power-games to me. Sick.

The acceptance of actions like this is so inappropriate and acting like this is low-level dilutes the valid argument that men shouldn’t think it’s ok to own women, and to degrade them with names.

  4. tank says:

This is just nasty if its true. How much do you have to hate women to think that trading their vaginas (for money or notoriety) is even ok. It seems irrelevant to me whether they are beaten into submission or “willing participants “, make money or a bad-boy reputation with your own damn sexual organs. Disappointed with Snoop.

    • MsAubra says:

Shoooot, how much do you have to hate yourself to do it when you’re in a position to do other things. It’s not like EVERY woman who does/did it was left with no other choice!

  5. melior says:

This guy should probably be in jail. Instead, he parades around rapping about pimping ‘bitches’. Hail America!

  6. Ann says:

A man who “pimps” women is a loser and an asshole. I don’t care who you are, you’re on my shit list.

    • lucy says:

I’m with you, Ann. Anyone who diminishes another human being for his own gratification or aggrandizement or benefit is obviously severely insecure and deficient in integrity. Bet he can’t take what he dishes out, either.

This joke of a human, regardless of his string of silly stupid nicknames for himself and ugly clothes, is only known to us because he did a lame whiny-voiced ripoff of GEORGE CLINTON’S old school ATOMIC DOG song from 1982. He based his whole persona on it.

I am disappointed in humanity for celebrating this loser. He’s a nobody and does not deserve admiration.

  7. smee says:

My friend owns a costume shop and I helped out for Halloween last year. I was SHOCKED by how many MOTHERS came in asking for a PIMP costume for their son. I couldn’t believe it. I wanted to ask if they needed a HO costume for their daughter. You have to wonder if people even understand what a pimp is and if they do, why are they glorifying an oppressor of women.

  8. Toot says:

I can’t stand Snoop, Ice-T, or any of these a-holes who have done this crap.

  9. AmyR says:

Ugh. I appreciate his new stance on violence and all, but if he’s still using those offensive terms for the women he pimped, I don’t think he’s really sorry he did it.

  10. Masque says:

He has always been revolting but this drags him even lower.

  11. Really? says:

I’m not a hard core fan, but still, i can’t hate him, he’s always been honest and upfront about it. All the ho’s were more than willing and probably jumping at the chance, they aren’t innocent victims, as can be the case in other forms of prostitution… most of all, Snoop didn’t do it on his own, the ho’s and the nasty sport star John’s are just as much to blame. I think i’m more grossed out by the sports guys. Snoop’s wife’s a pimp, too, and i’m sure she got a nice cut of the profits.

    • Ann says:

Ok, first of all, how OLD are you? What kind of a moron calls women “ho’s”? And what’s with the “oh, he’s so honest about it”? Should we say men who openly admit to beating their wives should get some bonus points for honesty? And enough with the victim blaming. A lot of what you call “ho’s” grew up in abusive homes and/or were sexually molested by family members so they don’t need to be judged for being damaged. Which makes men preying on them even double messed up.

      • Dawn says:

This is what happens when we celebrate people like Kim KrapTrashian who could have been working for Snoop for all we know. We have a sick society when we celebrate “pimps” like Snoop and “hos” like KrapTrashian. Shamelessness has been confused for honesty and that is half the problem. None of these people will ever do anything for the betterment of society and yet they make all the money. It is rather sad.

      • Amy says:

I don’t agree with Really?, but I think the use of the word “ho’s” was referencing Snoop’s terminology, and Really? did acknowledge that prostitution does often involve innocent victime

      • Really? says:

Gosh Ann, judge much? As for my age, which is none of your business, by the way, let’s just say i’m way too old to be one of Snoop’s “ho’s.” THERE, are you happy now sweetie, i put the horrible word in quotations, as i was using Snoop’s terminology, but seriously, what other word would you have me use to describe them? It’s pretty adequate for me.

In this day and age where people host and attend “Pimps and Ho’s” parties and some even go as far to dress their kids up like these caricatures for Halloween, i find your knee-jerk reaction to this unfortunately common word to be quite anachronistic.

So, allow me to repeat my reasoning, as you seem to have completely overlooked it – yes, there are innocent victims who have been abused and have had to deal with horrendous things in their lives, and these are NOT the kind of women i was referring to that sign up for Snoop’s Ho Mobile. As he said, it was all a set-up, a staged scenario, the girls got all the money, and they involved themselves willingly. If you disagree, you’re welcome to do so, but try to lay off judging me for expressing my own opinion. You’re barking up the wrong tree.

      • jaye says:

@Really…why not call them women? Their choice of profession or lifestyle doesn’t negate the fact that they’re women. It’s not necessary to perpetuate the degradation of those women, no matter what behavior they have or are engaged in.

I’m not trying to be combative, I was just responding to your “what else are we supposed to call them” question.

  12. Kaboom says:

He could have gone with “community organizer” if he let them keep the dough. Doesn’t have the pimp ring to it, though.

  13. junegorilla says:

He is as disgusting pig. And I front believe that he let his adult survivors of sex abuse keep all of the money. Why is keeping a woman in as bus to be a sex SD leave any dfifferent from locking her in a basement. Pig. All of these rappers are criminal trash. Maybe her and Markymark can compare war stories about drugging pimping and beating folks so badly they lose an eye. Have as all of these thugs been to the white house?

  14. dvz says:

He’s the teflon Snoop. The only thing I’m having a hard time getting past is the “Snoop Lion” thing. I also refuse to acknowledge it.

He must be one hell of a charmer. I’ve never heard a bad word said about him by anyone in or out of the industry, and god knows he’s trying.

    • Shannon says:

I love him. I know I’m in the minority but I don’t care. He’s honest and funny as hell. It’s hard to dislike him. I will not acknowledge him as Snoop Lion. He will be Snoop D O double G until the end of time.

He pimped women. Ok well I’m sure a lot of musicians/rappers have done the same. At least he’s honest about it. Keep it moving. Fo shizzle.

    • lrm says:

I KNOW. And even I, far outside the industry, who does not even listen to his music, finds him somehow utterly adorable. Even with his comments-coming from anyone else somehow it would seem worse…although being a pimp is pretty bad, snoop.
But yea, there’s something likeable about his demeanor-when i see him, i just kind of smile and laugh to myself not at him, but a happy kind of laugh.
yea, that’s weird. but that’s the snoop effect, isn’t it?

      • Shannon says:

He even smokes pot with his son. Totally f*cked up but I can’t HATE him. No way. He’s just too likable.

  15. teehee says:

As radical as I am when it comes to women’s rights and their place in society and mistreatment, etc, I have to say only this: at least he treated them nicely in comparison to the normal ‘pimps’ off the street. They were probably safe in his entourage and had higher benefits than the poor women who have to stand out on the corner in their underwear only to be given 20 dollars for what they do, and who have theirr face bashed in with a crowbar when they keep 5 dollars to themselves that they shouldnt. I can’t be mad in comparison.

  16. judyjudy says:

I can’t help it. I still love Snoop. And it sounds like he drove around with a bus full of groupies. Which is gross, sure, but a very different thing than being an abusive pump who owns and controls women who can’t get away.

  17. emmylouwho says:

I’m a little…disturbed…by the suggestions that he’s a “good pimp”? Like, just because he’s letting them keep the money and setting them up on a bus instead of a corner, he’s doing them a favor? He’s still objectifying and using them, these girls weren’t his friends who he was helping make some money, they were his “bitches” who he used to further his cred. He benefited from them whether or not he directly took any of their “p-ssy money”.

    • Barhey says:

Women who are kept as prostitutes have terrible mental health issues from the stress they are put under – unwanted pregnancies, violence, and just general abuse of their bodies and their souls being used like commodities. Researchers think up to two thirds have PTSD, and many use drugs and alcohol to cope.

I am beyond disgusted at anyone here who says a man can sell a woman’s body is ok because he is ‘like-able’ and ‘honest’. If somebody treated you like that and no one – not friends, not neighbors, not family – interceded because the guy was ‘so charming’ you would be so devastated to be let down so badly by society.

  18. svlover says:

I have a serious.issue with “pimping” women .. not only is it not acceptable, but it would be inconceivable if the roles were reversed. Let’s put SNOOP on the bus!!!

I also think its disgusting and should be mentioned … Celebrities acting like/glamorizing the pimp role. I always flash back to Kendra Wilkinson, on a national tv show, demanding to be called a pimp, accepting pimp mug from Snoop, pimp walking with a cane. Revolting behavior.
Here complete trailer trash, working as a stripper hooked on drugs, was mistakenly given10 min of fame, and she uses it to glamorize and promote the pimp role in sex trade.

Now she is comfortably set for life, while many of us struggle to pay for basic health care and food, while working multiple jobs. Gotta love our society!!!!!

  19. fingerbinger says:

Snoop also produced porn movies for a minute. After 20 years, the deaths of Biggie & Tupac, and being a husband & father he’s still trying to cultivate this “gangsta” image for some reason.

  20. Miller says:

I’m fine with the porn, the excessive weed (a lot of people I know smoke a lot of weed! I do, my dad does!), and even cheating on his wife if that’s the deal in their relationship. But, first of all, don’t’ refer to girls as “bitches” or “ho’s” or objectify- that’s disgusting. Secondly, if he aspires to be a pimp and is proud of selling woman, that’s disgusting and even though he’s Snoop Dogg, no one should endorse this behavior. Even if he lets them keep the money and doesn’t abuse them or demean them- and we don’t even know if he did or didn’t- that’s sick behavior and he’s still setting up these woman who could be exposing themselves to not only STDs, but guys with really disgusting sexual behavior. Plus I’m sure prostitution and being treated like an object takes a psychological toll. This is all disgusting behavior, and there’s no way of justifying it. There really isn’t.

Plus he’s trying to promote this newfound “peaceful” image, but it still is obvious that he’s bragging about it.

    • I Choose Me says:

You typed out just about everything I was going to. God, this man has zero respect for women. I don’t give a f*ck how charming he is, what he did and the fact that he’s bragging about it is disgusting.

    • Ella says:

      +1

  21. Runs with Scissors says:

Oh, but he was a NICE pimp!!! He’s so FUNNY and CHARMING!!! And he’s HONEST! He’s always been an honest PIMP!

He’s still calling women bi$ches and hos and bragging about selling their pu$sies, but he could have been worse!

I hate other women soooooo much that I’ll let it slide, it’s funny, please please like me! Haha, YAAAAAYYYYY!

He’s STILL bragging about it, he hasn’t learned a damn thing. Suckers.

    • Trashaddict says:

+100. So not impressed. Used to think “honesty” made this kind of shit better. Now I just see it as a manipulative ploy.

  22. emma says:

Interesting he only mentioned Denver teams!

I think this does make me love him a little less…

  23. Wd says:

And yet the sick media use this talentless scu mbag as a role model for our youth.

    • jaye says:

I wish people would stop throwing around the “talentless” label when referring to an artist they don’t like. Snoop is far from talentless. Now scumbag…I’ll give you that.

  24. Jessica says:

Treating women like objects to be used, bought and sold is asolutely disgusting. It does not matter who it is that is doing it, just because he’s some celeb does not absolve him of that dispicable behavior. Honestly, the fact that he says he did not do it for the money, but for the experience of being a pimp, is even more disgusting to me. Treating women like that for monetary gain is bad enough, but it is a whole other level of repulsive to treat women like that just for the hell of it.

  25. Beatriz says:

But if these women had a choice and chose willingly and under “good” circumstance to do this, it isn’t really pimping, is it? Someone correct me if I’m wrong. If you want to prostitute yourself and you like your “profession”, I have no problem with it.

    • Agitation says:

Exactly. I don’t see groupies as ‘victims’. They chose this sort of lifestyle so that they could get money. It’d be one thing if he was abducting little girls or taking advantage of really desperate people and abusing them. But these women have minds of their own and it blows my mind that that’s never taken into account. I feel the same way about those girls in the music videos. Nobody forced them to put themselves out there, and besides that they like the money coming in.

  26. VioletCrumble says:

I once asked a close family friend, a very high-ranking police officer, why some people committed all manner of nefarious, illegal, violent, inhuman etc., acts. He told me police often also asked this question, and the motivation can be one or more of three reasons: Cash, Bash or Gash. Every time I hear something like this, I automatically categorise the action, and it always fits into one or more of these categories.

  27. jaye says:

Despite the soft spot I might have for Snoop, he gets no passes from me. Not for calling women bitches and renting them out like uhaul trailers, not for cheating on his wife…none of it. It’s repulsive.
