Once again, I kind of think Nicole Kidman deserves her own post. Hopefully this will be a preview of coming attractions for Nicole’s Cannes Film Festival fashion. This is Nicole at last night’s premiere of The Great Gatsby. Her dress is Dior.
What I love:
*I love that she didn’t go with a full-length gown.
*I love that she’s showing off her beautiful shoulders.
*I love that Nicole attempted an old-school fashion moment, and it did work – she really dominated a lot of the fashion coverage.
*I love the design of the dress, even though I kind of think it belongs on someone younger (don’t yell at me, but imagine this on Carey Mulligan!)
What I hate:
*Her hair. She was aiming for high-fashion fauxhawk and she got a Granny helmet.
*Her lipstick. She matched it to her shoes. Ugh.
*The way her upper lip bulges when she smiles.
So, all in all – Nicole had a victory. Can she keep it up? I wonder how many pieces of luggage she brought to Cannes? I wonder if she’s going to wear all-new gowns, or if she’ll pick and choose some vintage pieces? I’m so excited!
Here are some more photos from last night’s event. Naomi Harris wore Calvin Klein. It’s a beautiful, clean look and it suits her, although she doesn’t really stand out in this dress.
Fan Bingbing in Louis Vuitton. I find this whole look to be rather cloying.
Florence Welch in MiuMiu. Eh. I would have loved it if she had worn an impeccable tuxedo. This is hideous.
Freida Pinto in Gucci. I love an Indian girl in hot pink! It’s a weird love to have, I know, but she looks amazing.

Nicole is one of my all-time fashion faves and this is the only Dior dress I truly loved since Saf Simmons took over the design house, so to me, this is a perfect marriage of fashion & celebrity. But I agree, that hair does not work – not with the rest of the look, not by itself.
That dress is amazing. I would wear it in a heartbeat.

Two words: NEW. LOOK. That mid-century, post-war, Dior-created silhouette that will never go out of style. I want this dress so bad it hurts. It’s stunning and every woman should have one dress that riffs on this iconic style. Wow.
Exquisite! O how I want that dress. She looks perfect…EXCEPT that her coif makes her look like an alien, one of the Lizard People of the planet Mung. But other than that one (horrible) detail, she looks the best I’ve ever seen her, so chic and glam, the perfect blend of Paris and YouShouldBeSoLuckyAsToDoMe.
The dress is perfection.
I think the length and design of the dress compliments Nicole and she does look lovely. I like her hair, it is adventurous and interesting. A definite win.

She looks exquisite with that very feminine royal gracious air that only a few actresses are able to display on red carpet (Jolie, Kidman, Theron, Zeta Jones, Ziyi and Cruz)…very lady like.
Agree 100% and must add the marvellous Cate Blanchett to that roster. Love her!
Wow, Nicole is killing it in every look. She looks stunning head to toe. Her face is back being thin again, laying off of heavy fillers and botox. Remember when her eyebrows would be so arched up because of overuse of botox? Well, no more. Her eyes and makeup have looked so pretty in every look. And her lips, although I wish were a little smaller, still aren’t horrible like they used to be. She pulls off the hair with an air of red carpt confidence, so it works while not my favorite.
Go, Nicole.
yes! Her face looks surprisingly wonderful here! Just needs to drop that lipstick. And that hair wasnt great..other than that, looks awesome! Too bad Keith has been tied up lately with Idol. I LOVE having him in my living room two nights a week lately, but I am missing him on the red carpet here. I enjoy seeing these two together at events. They always look so in love, you can tell he just adores her.

I agree on the color of the dress with her skin, but her makeup looks ridiculous. I’d love a closeup on that.
I don´t like helmet either, but.. maybe this making her unperfect , more like us… Her dress is oustanding and not matching lipstick with dress but with shoes I like!!!

I think that since she is playing Grace Kelly in a film, she is going for that general look of sophistication and femininity with a bit of an old school vibe to remind folks of that era.
The dress is beautiful, but I agree that it would look better on a younger woman, but she does carry it well. Still hate the pointed toe shoe, but like the color of the shoe.
She looks like herself in these pictures. Like the Nicole that I know and love.
I love the dress. It’s just enough “Luhrman” flair without being so over the top that it looks like she is seeking too much attention for a movie she isn’t in.

She looks exactly like a Barbie doll, right down to the little pink high heels. I understand this is a winning look for her, but I find her incredibly tedious. Nothing spontaneous or endearing about this woman – just plastic.

Normally hate the way Nicole Kidman dresses, but she looks gorgeous here.
She’s one of the few actresses who can actually pull off high fashion. Most just look like they’re going to a really fancy high school prom.
I really love how she always takes a little risk. She could have styled this completely classically and basked in the Old Hollywood comparsions, but she made it fresh with bright heels and that hair.
Even with the hair, which I don’t mind, it’s a win for her.
Wow, surely I’m not the only one who doesn’t like that dress? I don’t like the way it ‘poofs’ in front (I know, it’s a style), & the length of it isn’t flattering, to me. Sort of ‘odd’. The whole look is a thumbs down, in my honest opinion.
Nope, you are not the only one. I was surprised that everyone loves it so much, though I do agree she’s looking better than she has in a long time. My issue with the dress is the material – and embroidery. Someone mentioned on the Carey Mulligan dress thread that it looked bridesmaid-y/debutante and that’s what Nicole’s dress looks like to me. It looks like silk embroidered or beaded purses my mom and aunt carried with their dressy hanbok (traditional Korean dress) for weddings.
Well that’s a relief! I couldn’t place what so turned me off, but that’s definitely a big part of it. I was starting to think I’d somehow ended up looking at the wrong pics or something. xD
But I do agree that she’s looking better (Face/skin/ect.) than she has in awhile. =)

My husband calls them ‘the hogs’. Heheh. He spends quite a bit of time playing with them, which surprised me at first I must admit. But they do capture your heart with their antics!
@Lulu – Aww. My dad (who’s not really a particularly ’emotional’ guy) plays w/ours all the time.
When we first started keeping them, I was really shocked how different their personalities can be, & how attached to you they can get. I had 2 little bro-pigs (that, as you can see by the pic, became 2 BIG bro-pigs xD) the first time, & they were bonded (to eachother), but would get jealous of my attention & argue (teeth grinding/posturing). It was so ridiculous x3

Fan Bing Bing is SO MUCH sugar. What did Lainey call it? Fontrum. I used to subscribe to her Facebook page, but the updates are so so sacchriny(sp?) and silly (esp to western tastes), I had to unsubscribe. She’s very pretty, but after a while, her presence, her styling, she does feel cloying.
In my opinion, Nicole was impeccable. I don’t think Carey would have the elegance and sophistication to carry this look, not yet.

I think Nicole looks awesome. There is no room for the word ridiculous when it comes to her sense of fashion and that banging body of hers. Save that word for those who wear the too tight, the too low and the too short! I simply love that dress and I like the hair as well!

When I hit 35, my hairdresser did me the harsh favor of telling me that I was too old to wear pink lipstick – “makes you look like a housewife from Greenwhich, Connecticut with a panelled station wagon!” I proffer it now to Nicole.

Everyone else looks like crap though minus Naomi (she’s beautiful, but her makeup and dress are boring). I don’t see how Frieda looks good– her makeup and hair are atrocious, that shade of peptobismol pink is really unflattering (as is the cut of the dress), and her shoes are a hideously clunky hell. Come on Frieda, you’re normally one to watch!
Aha, so that’s how she does it. In the 2nd picture, that little hair tie is her face-tightness-control. You grab the ponytail and slide the control up for “tighter” and pull it down for “looser”.
If you remove it entirely, she looks 87.
Nicole is so classical gorgeous with refined features and beautiful coloring, hair, and skin….her hair is one of her best qualities, so she could really showcase it by a better style..the dress is okay, but when I saw it, I thought she looked a bit like Little Bo Peep, she just needs the cane….I think Nicole and Freida look the best.
