Does Elsa Pataky deserve any credit for Fast & Furious 6’s crazy box office?

It’s very common to see an actor or actress out and about with their children in a very family-friendly, paparazzi-friendly situation on the same weekend that their film has come out. Some actors have made it a fine art – think of Ben Affleck’s Oscar campaign, think of how Brangelina manages to get pap’d with their kids when one of them has a movie opening. (sidenote: I’m looking forward to seeing the Jolie-Pitts soon considering Brad’s WWZ is coming soon.) Well, we can add Elsa Pataky to the list. Only this outing – on Sunday, in Malibu – was more of a pap-friendly victory lap rather than promotion.

Maybe Elsa has got us so programmed after months of pap-ing herself, her baby and her husband (Chris Hemsworth) that it’s now noteworthy when she goes out with baby India Rose and no Chris. I’m actually sort of surprised that Chris didn’t manage to get pap’d with his wife this time around – after all, her movie (ha) did do really well at the weekend box office. Fast & Furious 6 made $120 million from Thursday through Monday, making it the biggest Memorial Day weekend box office in history. And Elsa was a part of that! Do you think she gets credit for it? Perhaps. Although I don’t really think ANY of the actors should get credit. Are people really going to see these movies for Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, The Rock, Michelle Rodriguez or Elsa? No. They’re going for cars, stunts and mindless action. Still, cute baby.

    The baby is so cute.
Who is the dude behind her smiling at the camera?

    • Lizzie says:

idk but it’s not chris hemsworth. and really, who wants to look at these pictures without him in them?

  2. Amelia says:

    . . . Well, no.
I saw a poster for F+F 6 on the Underground literally ten minutes ago, and I don’t think she was even on it.
Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever heard this woman’s voice.
It’s as if papparazzi pictures are the only medium in which she exists.
Anyway, the F+F series is really an ensemble effort, correct?

    • Elise says:

Just wanted to say that your description totally reminds me of Pippa Middleton! She only exists in pap pix…

    • FLORC says:

      Amelia
F&F is Paul and Vin for actors. Bullet is the main character and all centers around him for living things. The real stars are the cars! These movies would be nothing without the quick camera switching angles of gear shifting. The cars and the special fx team are the true stars. No one walks away and talks about how great the acting was. They might talk about how hot a girl or guy was, but it was all T&A.

Elsa seems to be enjoying the attention. I think her little girl is adorable, but looks even cuter when her father is holding her.

  3. Anna says:

“Are people really going to see these movies for Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, The Rock, Michelle Rodriguez or Elsa?” –

Which of those is not like the others? Hint: it’s the one that’s not in any promos or on a group poster that manages to find space for 9 other characters including a DEAD one! Yet the one that is front and center on the red carpet in her shiniest outfits, and the only one of them that gets regularly papped. Hm.

    • Kiki says:

      I go for The Rock!

      • Joanna says:

screams *stay away from my man!* lol. jk. seriously, he is so fine, isn’t he? did you see pain and gain? he was so good in it, and so hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    • Migdalia says:

It’s been proven that Vin Diesel is a big drawl for the franchise. Tokyo Drift is the only one in the series considered a fail ;-p

    • Chicagogurl17 says:

Saw it for the hubby this weekend and of course it was terrible. Elsa is in it for 5 mins and has all of 6 lines and her character sucks (you would get it if you saw the movie). So….hell no…Vin Diesel isn’t eye candy, Paul Walker looks old, Tyrese plays a jackass, so it’s pretty much Luke Evans, Luda and The Rock for eye candy.

    • JenD says:

I went to see it for The Rock, Vin, and Paul Walker.

The only passing thought I had for Elsa in the movie was “dang, she gets to sleep with Thor in real life, and she’s naked with Vin in this movie. Lucky b!tch!” Besides that, she was basically an extra in the movie.

    • TG says:

Ha-ha @Anna – so is Elsa the new Justin Timberdouche? But I have to say I don’t pay much attention to Elsa and find her very pretty and she seems to be in love with her family. I actually had to do some research to find out why every one hates her. Other than their intense jealousy if landing Hemsworth.
LOL. I know that feeling that’s why I can’t stand that woman who got Alec Baldwin. I want him all to myself.

    • Joanna says:

what?!!! the rock’s in it! i’m seeing it.

  4. marie says:

ah hahahahaha NO, if anything she’d deter me from seeing it..

    • Anna says:

The only FF movie I have ever seen was Fast Five, a month ago, and I was SO happy that I did because I got to relish what an absolutely terrible actress she is. She makes Diesel look like an august thespian.

    • V4Real says:

Marie & Anna what is wrong with you? Are you crazy? FF6 would not have been a hit without Pataky. She is the only reason people went to see that movie. She’s one of the best actresses of our time. She gave an oscar worthy performance. Stop hating on this beautiful multi talented woman.

Haha had you there for a second didn’t I? I saw FF and thank the Gods she’s barely in it. Without giving anything away I loved how things ended with her.

    • skyler1 says:

The only reason I bothered to know her name is I wanted to know who the lucky dame was to get to have Thor’s baby….Chris Hemsworth is like dessert on two legs.

  5. ds says:

I went to see Star Trek yesterday and saw the F&F trailer that was so boring I almost snoozed off and had to admit I didn’t even realize this chick is in that film. Off topic but since I mentioned Star Trek I am officially and I struggled with it for a long time…. Sherlocked, or Cucumbered or… That man is something special.

    • Lara says:

I watched Star Trek yesterday as well and I’ve fallen in love with Benedict, after fighting it for sooo long!

  6. Andrea says:

The only cast member who has actual box office pull is The Rock. People do go see movies for him. The rest of the cast are limiter actors with certain skill sets (they can beat people up) and this is the only kind of film where they have a chance. I.e. a film that doesn’t require them to talk that much.

The Rock was a humble guy who took his time over a very long period and actually worked on his acting. He’s still not great but he’s better than the others which is why he makes money. But frankly as “fun” as this movie is none of the actors in it are very good.

    • Buckwild says:

Agree on the Rock. Plus he has a fan base from his wrestling days which adds to his name recognition.

  7. T.Fanty says:

I wonder how you have that conversation with a famous spouse. Explaining that you want to be famous, so they have to come out with you and get papped, until you’re established enough that they can stay home while you go out alone. It just seems very blatant and cold to think that people plan this, and I couldn’t imagine someone talking to me about this without feeling used.

    • TheyPromisedMeBeer says:

Preach. I wonder about that too.

Does it reflect as poorly on the spouse as the famewhore to you? I’m still on the fence with that one.

    • Anna says:

I’m surprised Kaiser didnt post pix of her ‘modeling’ with some berries while grocery shopping (same day/outfit). They’re hilarious in how posed they are.

      • Marty says:

This Anna. I understand the Cherrios, but damn she didn’t even wash the berries first. Bacteria galore!

I just got my Women’s Health magazine, it was so bad even my mom was rolling her eyes when I was reading it out loud to her, and she has NO idea who this woman is!

      • Anna says:

        @Marty

Well, I am totally guilty of not washing berries before eating them (I kid you not, they taste watered down to me) but I am not dropping them into my mouth, head all rolled back, in a rather suggestive profile.

Is Women’s Health text available online? It’s not on the newsstands in Russia. I am dying to know what kind of ridiculousness she’s spouting.

      • Marty says:

@Anna- Yes I laughed at that too, but seriously how long was that walk to the car that she had all that time to eat those berries and open a box of Cherrios and watch her baby?

I just think a partial bit is online. The article says she’s directing a documentary about “kidsaroubd the word”, it literally gave no futher explaination then that. And she is “writting” a fitness book with her trainer! Oh I can’t wait!!!!

Now if you’ll excuse I’ll go back to this 7th level of Hell I’m currently living in.

    • Miss Melissa says:

I think it goes something like this:

You are my husband and I need you to support me and my career. I’m there for you, proudly at all of your premieres, now I need you to be there for me to help me get some exposure.

If you ever want a blow job again.

  8. mom2two says:

I would have to say that if any actor gets the credit for this movie’s big box office, it is probably the Rock.
And possibly the fact that Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Michelle Rodriquez are together in this one again.
I think the only credit Elsa can get is for who she married and the fact that the paps follow her around because of who her husband is, not because of her.
I think The Rock, whatever people think of his role choices, appeals to people and doesn’t get enough credit for making most of his movies a success.

  9. truthSF says:

Actually, people do see these FF movies for the Diesel. The man has 41 million facebook followers. They may not see his other movies, but they will definitely turn out for him and Walker in this franchise.

    • V4Real says:

Yes FF was a huge success before The Rock joined the Franchise. You have faithful followers of the films that would see it with or without the Rock. He’s a nice addition to the team but let’s not take the credit away from the four who started it all. Diesel is still the main draw.

    • I Choose Me says:

      Yup. *unashamed Diesel fan*

  10. Lindsey says:

She’s in the movie for like 7 minutes, tops…. maybe. I DID go see it for The Rock, cause he is foine as hell.

  11. Tessa says:

I didn’t even know she was an actress. I just thought she was Chris Hemsworth’s wife. Lol. Learn something new everyday.

    • Migdalia says:

Haha exactly…I cannot even remember who she played. Was it the blonde cop/Vin Diesel’s lover in the beginning?

  12. Rae says:

I am most confused by what she is wearing!?! If you are going to get papped at least wear an outfit that makes sense!

  13. Jenna says:

LOL. Do you even have to ask? She was in it for five minutes with a total of about four scenes and she only spoke in three of those.

If there was any pull for that movie it’s because of The Rock (he’s CRAZY huge), Vin Diesel and maybe even Paul Walker. Not to mention the crazy action and fast cars.

    • Marty says:

Side-note Jenna, did you see how Tom Hardy and his fiancee are still together? I guess they haven’t broken up…yet.

      • Jenna says:

Really? I thought he and Rapace were pretty much the real deal (for the moment that is)? Ah well…I got Karl now! 😛

      • Marty says:

Well I read it’s going to be a three month shoot so… I’m sure the other Hardy fangirls on Tumblr are happy, they have a major hard-on for Charlotte, while conviently forgetting how her and Tom got together.

      • Jenna says:

Really? I know she’s hated on JJ; not so sure about how well she’s liked on Tumblr…

      • Marty says:

Oh man, a couple of months ago I got s**t on so much for even bringing it up! They said I was being “mean and disrespectful” to them both. They call Charlotte “Mrs. Hardy” over there. I just try and avoid it now.

      • Jenna says:

Yeesh; sorry girlie. I mean, I may like his face but that doesn’t mean I’m blind to what’s being said about his relationships.

  14. Tapioca says:

I’ll have you guys know Elsa was in seminal cinematic masterturd Snakes on a Plane way back when Thor was still a barely-known soap actor!

If anything HE’s leeching off her fame…

    • Miss Melissa says:

Point well taken. Credit where credit is due, surely. He would be nothing without her.

AND she got to work with Samuel L. Jackson first!

  15. Murphy says:

There were a lot of beautiful women in Fast 6 but I have to say, Elsa really blew me away in her scenes-especially at the end of the movie. Wish she didn’t cut her hair.

  16. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

She looks like a cross between Jessica Biel and one of the Hansons (of MMMBop fame)

  17. Agnes says:

Well, I’ve seen FF6 and I don’t remember even seeing her. If not for CB, I wouldn’t even know she was in it

    • Migdalia says:

      +1000

I just asked who she played in the movie. I’m off to google it.

    • Bex says:

I’m lost too, don’t know which character she played. That cast is loaded with names/faces I recognize – can’t place her at all.

  18. Marty says:

I see you Kaiser, trying to raise my blood pressure this A.M. but it won’t work! You see implying that Elsa is relevent enough outside the gossip world is laughable.

Seriously though, I actual think it was the return of Michelle Rodriguez. I think people were excited to see her and Vin Diesel together again, all the other stuff was just a bonus.

    • Migdalia says:

That’s the only reason I saw this movie. The only other FF I’ve seen was the first one. I miss Michelle Rodriguez.

  19. Rachel says:

WRONG! I see all of these movies because Paul Walker is in them. I didn’t see the one Paul Walker wasn’t in, because Paul Walker wasn’t in it. Paul Walker is silly-stupid fine.

  20. Miss M says:

“Are people really going to see these movies for Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, The Rock, Michelle Rodriguez or Elsa?” Yes, I went to see Paul Walker, you troll! And the cars, of course! 🙂

Elsa is barely there… I arrived a bit late in the theater and missed her (couple) few lines in the beginning, Thank God! Then, she showed up in the end, said 2 or 3 lines to Rodriguez character + 1 line to Vin Diesel and that was i t. They will definitely have a FF7. Can I say why? 🙂

  21. Broolee says:

    No.

She was honestly in the movie for maybe ten minutes and her character was a doormat.

Really pretty woman, but she tries too hard. Too much try >.<

  22. Miss M says:

By the way, thank God they didn’t have Gina Carano and Elsa Pataky in the same scene, worst female cast ever!

    • Migdalia says:

Except Gina Carano kicks major butt. She’s action candy for sure. That fight between her and Michelle looked painful lol.

      • Andrea says:

Carano is lifeless and dull except when she fights. When she talks it’s cringeworthy. Plus Carano is just like Pataky hitching herself to Henry Cavill to help her career. She is good fighter but she’s no different. They are both fame hungry bad actresses with boob jobs.

      • Miss M says:

Michelle is far more convincing in the fighting scene because she is an actress not a fighter, which made me happy seeing her character kick Carano’s character dull a*s.

  23. Angela T says:

She had maybe 10 minutes of screen time, I don’t think she deserved the women’s fitness cover promoting the movie.

  24. heidi says:

India come from a beautiful & strong gene pool. Can’t wait to see more of her as she grows up.

  25. Samtha says:

I didn’t even know she was in it.

  26. Debbie says:

No I don’t she isn’t promo’d and honestly who is she? Is this her first movie? Until this site I had never heard of her and I don’t think I’m alone.

  27. HappyMom says:

That tat on her upper arm is so unfortunate. Tacky Pataky indeed.

  28. buell says:

Saw it this weekend and she is only on screen about 2 minutes tops. Once naked in bed, then being handed a baby to escape with and at the very end saying goodbye to Vin. And in each scene she is more wooden than a pirate’s peg leg. Just horrible.

  29. heidi says:

Why so down on this girl Elsa? She seems nice enough, a good wife & mommy to India. Heck, she’s cultured, speaks fluent Spanish, Italian , Romanian, French and some English. Her dad is a biochemist and mom a publicist. Spanish, Hungarian, & Romanian descent with a sexy European accent. Maybe jealous she’s with hunky Mr. Hemsworth?
So what if she had a small part~it’s great exposure that the movie did well. Btwn. that and her husband so popular her relevancy will grow. I like her.

    • Marty says:

      Elsa?!

      • Anna says:

Well, it’s not like @heidi’s wrong about the ‘jealous of Hems’ bit, as least for me 🙂

      • Marty says:

True true. Although that bit about her mom being a publicist makes A LOT of sense!

Anna, if you have time you should scroll through the Adrien Brody tag on LaineyGossip. Man I thought we gave Elsa some stuff, Lainey called her out soooo many times over there.

      • Anna says:

        @Marty –

Been there, done that, after being tipped off by Eve here. That was my Tacky Pataky crash course, which informs a lot of my opinions of her person.

The mom bit makes sense too (tho I’ve seen another occupation ascribed to her before?) – and she’s been papped w/mom a lot too, lately. Mom always looking fully made up and put together at that.

    • Viv says:

Heidi, Pataky tries too hard and always comes across as tacky in her efforts. She uses every man for fame, and she’s using Chris and the baby now, instead of going for it on her own. At least in these last pictures, he’s not with her. Nobody would give a hoot about her if it wasn’t for him. Plus, she’s a horrible actress and probably only got FF because he’s her husband. And she acts as if she’s a natural beauty when she’s a plastic surgery queen. That’s about it, I think, unless someone wants to add something.

  30. Emily says:

Meh, I think people are going for seeing pretty people in the cars, stunts, and mindless action. Sure, why shouldn’t she get some credit for it? 10 minutes of screentime, subtract because it’s not a character-driven movie, divide… 1/120th of the credit, if the movie’s 2 hours? I bet someone’s thought up some kind of really complex equation for this stuff.

I’m sure she’s more important to the movie’s success than Justin Timberlake is to the movie he’s in, and he was pretending he was the star of that at Sundance.

    • OhMyGawh says:

No. She really isn’t. Elsa Pataky’s part is forgettable. I doubt she’ll be back for Fast 7.

  31. Marion says:

    I cannnot stand this famewhore…
The only thing she’s done is jumping from one guy to another to make her climb the ladder of celebrity. She made a couple of films in France and they all bombed.

    • OhMyGawh says:

That’s because she’s a terrible actress and can barely string a sentence together. Watch some of her interviews.

      • Viv says:

+1000 thumbs up about her being a fameho. I wish I liked Pataky because she’s married to Chris whom I adore. I want him to be happy, and the baby is adorable.

However, there is something that is just creepy and icky about EP that makes me shudder. I suppose it’s the fameho, exhibitionist bit about her.

Can’t believe she didn’t wash the berries before she gives them to her baby. That’s really not safe. I’ve seen a couple of her interviews. Frankly, she comes across as a little stupid.

I’d only go see the movie for Paul Walker.

      • Miss M says:

@Viv: ” I’d only go see the movie for Paul Walker.” Ahem… adding Viv to my ‘special” list.

    • Viv says:

Thanks, Miss M. I’m must have a weakness for blondish men though. First Brad Pitt, Paul Walker, Chris Hemsworth, Charlie Hunnam and Chris Pine. I want them all!

      • Miss M says:

@Viv: thank you for thanking me. But being on my “special” list is not a good thing, :). I will be kind: watch your back, b*tch!

The only and only blondish guy I have a crush on is Paul Walker. Well, I have jumped the Chris H. bandwagon after seeing the trailer for “rush”, but that’s about it.

      • Viv says:

“Ouch!” (Hands up.) Paul Walker is all yours. I wouldn’t dare stray into such dangerous territory, Miss M.

  32. Kelly says:

I didn’t know who she was until read about her on this site so no

  33. Elly says:

Was she the female cop? Can´t remember her

  34. Nev says:

    VIN FOREVER.

    don’t even test.

  35. Dommy Dearest says:

No, she had nothing to do with it. My ex is a big big BIG lover of cars and just sees them now due to it being a continuation. Eye candy is the other reason. Her part was small in Fast Five, she’s just Vin Diesel’s fill in love interest until Letty gets back in the groove. Should be gone by the next movie.

  36. Beatriz says:

A while back I read that one of the reasons FF is so popular (besides the man-candy and car-porn) is because it’s so racially diverse (studios don’t seem to realize that Latinos account for 26 percent of ticket sale), so I doubt Elsa Pataky had any kind of influence whatsoever in the movie being a big hit…

  37. Patrice says:

And to think: She even managed to dress little India Rose in some PINK for this one! *Feigns horror*

  38. MissMo says:

    Three things:

    1. Yes, that baby is freakin adorable.
    2. Some of us DO see the movie for the sweet, sweet eye candy that is The Rock and Mr. Diesel!!! Aww yiss.
    3. If she insists upon being pap’d, Ms. Pataky should find herself a more flattering pair of sunnies…her face looks unfortunately masculine in the second photo!

  39. Simply Red says:

Love the movie… Great job on the effects and action

  40. xoxokaligrl says:

I do not even remember her in the movie…
    And I just watched it….
