Princesses Eugenie & Beatrice join the Queen for the Royal Derby: lovely?

Here are some photos of “the other royals” at the Investec Epsom Derby at Epsom Racecourse in Epsom on June 2, 2013. I’m actually somewhat shocked that Duchess Kate didn’t manage to come out for a public appearance considering this kind of thing is exactly what kind of appearance she loves the most: something non-charitable, where she just gets to show up in a cute outfit and talk to her friends. Instead of Kate, we get Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. Bea is 24 years and Eugenie is 23. And because Eugenie and Bea don’t get the same kind of obsessive interest from fashionistas, I have no idea what the designer IDs are on those dresses.

I do think Bea and Eugenie and the Queen all look lovely though. It’s good to see the Queen out with those girls! The Duke of York has rather famously wanted his daughters to take on more royal duties and responsibilities now that they’re in their 20s, and the young princesses are said to have asked the Queen for more work too. Considering how work-shy Kate has turned out to be, you would think that the Queen would be promoting “the other princesses” more just to keep William and Kate in line, right? So maybe that’s what this was.

God, these girls look EXACTLY like their parents. Eugenie looks just like her father and Beatrice is her mother’s doppelganger. I think I prefer Beatrice’s bold black-and-white graphic and burgundy cloche to Eugenie’s more muted ensemble, but both girls look totally appropriate and pretty for the races. At the very least, their hat game is improving.

Beatrice needs a better bra. The dress in general does nothing for her figure: it’s matronly.

    • HappyMom says:

      And those shoes-hideous!

    • Thiajoka says:

And those panty-hose. At her age, she shouldn’t need to wear panty-hose.

      • NYC_girl says:

I wonder if nude hose are protocol for these functions. All the women seem to wear them. If they must wear them, there are good versions out there which avoid the prosthetic limb look, like Donna Karan.

      • LAK says:

The tights are protocol, though they don’t have to be flesh coloured.

    • polkasox says:

She looks like a giant box in that dress! & she has a cute figure underneath. She needs a stylist, stat.

  2. HH says:

I really love Bea’s hat. I never get the criticism towards these girls. It always seems to stem from the public dislike of their parents which is unfair. In regards to their fashion, they have their hits and misses, but I always enjoy that they take risks.

    • Emily says:

Agreed. And I remember one of the other Celebitchy commenters knows them through volunteer work and said that they’re both super-nice.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more of these two. 🙂

    • littlestar says:

I like them a lot. They are both educated and they both work at real jobs! And they seem to do a lot of charity work as well.

      • Sal says:

What are their real jobs? I’ve not heard of either of them working.

      • littlestar says:

I think the oldest one works in finance. I don’t remember what the younger one does, something with art maybe?

      • FLORC says:

        Littlestar
I believe Eugenie hold degrees of art history, politics, and english lit. Many people took the art history degree as a hit on Kate. That Art History is so simple you can earn it while getting a more substantial degree. Eugenie also got amazingly high grades. Girl is smart, kind, and a hard worker. Her clothes aren’t always the best, but she is always appropriate and respectful.

      • LAK says:

        both girls have jobs.

B in Finance. she’s at an investment company.

E with a gallery. She interned with various art galleries, including Christie’s.

Though it appears that they are always out on the town, infact these are activities we all participate in when the work day is finished or at the weekend.

Plus they use their normal holiday allotments to undertake any royal/charity duties.

In the UK, standard holiday allotment is between a month and 6 weeks per year.

Eugenie now works with the Royal Collection
        http://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/404411/Hard-working-Princess-Eugenie-goes-to-Derby-with-her-new-boss-The-Queen

“The Princess has advanced her career in the art world by landing a plum job at Buckingham Palace.

The 23-year-old has spent the past three weeks working for the Royal Collection as a paid intern and is likely to spend several months in the post.”

      • LAK says:

EDIT: Eugenie has apparently landed an internship at the Royal Collections in the past month.

@justme – we typed at the same time 🙂

      • sal says:

How nice it must be to come by plum jobs that you have received through nepotism!

FLORC says: June 3, 2013 at 1:16 pm “That Art History is so simple you can earn it while getting a more substantial degree. Eugenie also got amazingly high grades.”

Huh?? Art History is not a ‘simple degree’ any more than a history degree is. Plus the girl earned ONE degree, not multiple degrees, so I don’t know where you’re getting that from.

Also, Eugenie got a 2:1 grade at Newcastle Uni. Not bad (around a B average), but hardly “amazingly high”.

I’m not one to throw shade on anyone for achieving an education, so good on them, but let’s not pretend that their lives are anything other than ridiculously privileged.

e.g.. “Palace officials spent £250000 renovating an apartment in St James Palace for Princess Beatrice to stay in while she is at university”. Daddy employs a stylist for them, for pity’s sake.

At a time when highly educated young people in the UK are stacking supermarket shelves and the only ’employment’ available is unpaid internships – I find it unbelievable that these two muppets are being applauded for essentially getting out of bed in the morning.

    • Justme says:

As I said earlier – royal connections help land an internship with the Royal Collections! 🙂

Not that there is anything wrong with that. A lot of these arty jobs come about because of connections.

She seems like a nice girl anyway and not stuck-up or snobby.

      • LAK says:

The royal collections is one of the best collection of art in he world. It’s catnip to anyone interested in art history.

And as you say, she may as well use her connections to get in.

      • HH says:

No matter your station in life, it’s all about networking. Everyone who has connections uses them if they can. Also, I don’t have a problem using her connections because she actually has a degree in that field. It would be seem like a BS job if she had some random degree in English, for example, but then worked in Art (IMO).

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

        Paid internship? Yeah, of course.

  3. Maggie says:

    Someone call the fashion police!

  4. MoxyLady007 says:

I think that they are both lovely – they just need to find clothes that flatter their figures better.

  5. LizEJ says:

I can’t believe that these girls are in their early-mid 20s… They dress like middle-aged women.

  6. DanaG says:

I hate the hat on Beatrice. Kate may be too far pregnant there comes a time when the royal mother to be disappears. Bea and Eugenie are even more work shy then Kate. They go to parties and charity do’s usually with their mother hanging on. They aren’t wanted as working Royals because they aren’t needed, their mother is Fergie and they enjoy holidays as much as their mother and Kate. So I wouldn’t be calling them any sort of example for Kate. Bea and Eugenie tend to have way more misses then hit’s fashion wise both got their mothers lack of any style.

    • A says:

You’re 100% right. Besides the only reason they want to work/Prince Andrew wants them to work is so that they can be “senior royals” and get more $$.

Kate’s position is safe, (from her perspective) she doesn’t need to hustle for $$. If the York princesses had as secure a position I bet you they wouldn’t be seen either!

      • FLORC says:

        A
You’re so off base. Andrew wants them as working royals for security reasons. He already benefits a lot as the Queen still loves her son. Bea and Eug work very hard with full time jobs and pay all of their fees to travel and volunteer for real charities. They lead very low key lives. We rarely hear about their full time work and charity schedule because the press is too busy trying to keep the hard work of others out of the papers so Kate can still be praised as a busy bee. Also, it’s been said that the Queen loves Eugenie so much. Maybe a favorite of the grandchildren.

Kate’s position is far from secure. The princesses will always be safe. Even if Charles gets his way with his brotherly feud the princesses are still in line for the throne and still royal. Kate is a divorce away from getting the standard divorce payout.

Lastly Kate doesn’t need to hustle for her father-in-laws tax supplemented money, but she does need to get out there and work when the press runs out of things to write. There is a backlash there and she is probably told to do something when she, herself would ‘t have thought to do so.

      • Sarah says:

I agree that Andrew didn’t just want his daughters to do more charity work for their own sake. It was about getting a royal allowance and that means hustling at royal events. Beatrice and Eugenie are in line for the throne but WAY back to the extent that it doesn’t really matter. And I don’t think they get any money (except Daddy’s) because the Royal List (and the allowances that go with it) have been trimmed greatly in the last decade or so. Andrew was looking to get them put on the list and get (government) allowances. I believe the Queen turned down Andrew’s request to put his daughters on the List. They may have real jobs and good for them but let’s not pretend that Andrew and his royal connections didn’t set that up for them.

    • FLORC says:

      DanaG

I bet you anything Kate didn’t show up because William wasn’t there and she would have to bow to the princesses. Also, just saw a friend who just moved back from Cambridge the other day for a wedding. He had cell phone pics he took of Kate. She looks far from 8 months pregnant. She’s much thinner than press photos show. If I didn’t know who she was i’d guess 5 maybe 6 months pregnant.

    • The Original Mia says:

Too pregnant? According to the Daily Mail, she’s deciding which of 4 wedding invites to accept this weekend. She just doesn’t want to do this thing, especially with these princesses. They don’t get along, so there’s no way Kate would be in their presence without William.

      • Justme says:

Not every royal attends each garden party (except for the Queen and the DOE). So there will be some garden parties with Sophie Countess of Wessex, others with Princess Anne, others with the Duchess of Cambridge and others with the two princesses. Kate already attended a garden party – now it is the princesses turn. There need be no ulterior motive.

I know I am an awful person, but everytime I see them I think to Cinderella’s ugly sisters.

    • aims says:

oh god, I’m so glad you said that!! Me too, there’s nothing lovely here. Ok, now I feel like a massive bitch.

    • epiphany says:

They remind me of the Willis girls – ‘unfortunate looking’, I think is the phrase often used.

      • anon33 says:

Woo lord, these chicks are FAR uglier than the Willis girls…

      • Sumodo1 says:

BINGO! In former times, they would also have been “married off” by now to royals in Europe! Unfortunate-looking, bwahahaha!

    • mari says:

      @ eleonor.

I’m with you. And you’re being very charitable.

    • JC says:

EXACTLY my thoughts. Glad I wasn’t the first to say it.

    • truthful says:

yeah, I totally agree, I was thinking the same thing.

      not lovely or cute

      • dena says:

I actually think that Eugenie is very pretty and that she has a vey womanly, hour-glass shape. While Beatrice is not traditionally pretty, I think she has an old-world look that is intriguing. She should do more to find clothing & styles that compliment her. I don’t think either is unattractive.

      • FLORC says:

        Dena

Eugenie is truly gorgeous! There are some absolutely stunning photos of her and Bea is very pretty in motion, but not always photogenic. Some of these posters trashing Bea and Eug are hardcore sycophants of Kate. If they can’t prise her directly they trash other girls. Not to mention that rumored bullying Kate and Pippa did to these girls.

    • Georgina says:

Classy of you all to mock their faces, something they can’t help. I suppose I’d there we’re full of fillers and had fake noses and chins, you’d have something to say about that too. Give them a break.

    • Jen says:

I think Eugenie is adorable. She has the best of both her parents’ features.

Beatrice, though. Well, I hope she has a nice personality.

      • faun says:

        LOL

      • Sarah says:

I agree both girls are somewhat plain looking to put it charitably. However Eugenie got the better of the family DNA. Pity neither seems to have much success with fashion.

    • FLORC says:

If we leave out inner beauty these girls wouldn’t be anything special, but they’re so generous and kind. Genuinely sweet girls. Their parents have certainly messed up from time to time, but they raised 2 incredibly well adjusted and socially responsible young women.

      • mayamae says:

This sounds like an obnoxious question, but could they have been raised by loving/devoted nannies? I remember the minor scandal when Fergie decided to leave 8 week old Beatrice for 2 months while she visited Andrew. The nanny was certainly mommy during that period. When Sarah came back she was a total stranger to that poor baby. It especially looked bad considering Diana fought so hard to take William with her when she went on tour – something that had never been done before. And how odd that Andrew chose to lose this opportunity to see his only child considering he was rarely home.

I’m not a Diana apologist, but she certainly seemed to be a more devoted mother than Sarah. I remember her friends were quoted as saying Sarah just wasn’t a baby person but she would be more involved when they started developing personalities. It was all very odd.

      • LAK says:

mayamae – Nannies were as present in William/Harry’s lives as B/E’s lives.

And taking William to Australia was pointless from his POV since he was accompanied by nannies and spent most of his time in a house miles away from the parents.

      • FLORC says:

        Mayamae

LAK (of course) is right about the nannies always around, but I still believe the parents had some sort of role. Just as William turned out a bit damaged by his relationship with his mother and that he may had learned too young that he could say no and no one would counter him via my arm chair diagnosis.

I think Bea and Eug definitely had a parental influence in their lives too. I’m sure they saw some really sad days with their parents divorce and i’m sure they had amazing nannies around to help them through it. No matter how it happened they turned out great and both their parents seem to have a solid relationship with them. If they were raised solely by nannies i’d have a hard time believing they’d be as close to their parents as they are.

      • Amy Tennant says:

Even if they turned out so well because they had loving, devoted nannies, I credit the parents for putting the right people in place. I credit the nannies, too. 🙂

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

      Y’all are pretty brutal.

      • loveisthecoal says:

I was starting to think I was the only one who doesn’t find them repulsive. I certainly wouldn’t go so far as to say Beatrice is ugly, and I think Eugenie is quite pretty.

    • mayamae says:

I’ve seen video of these girls and they are attractive. I think part of their problem is they are just unphotogenic – which I am as well. No matter how good I think I look in a mirror, I take the worst pictures.

Also, I think Bea looks more like Andrew, with his vampire teeth, than Fergie. She does have Fergie’s big round eyes. The picture with Eugenie smiling big looks exactly like Fergie.

    • Meredith says:

      +1

  8. Andrea says:

They always seem like sweet girls to me.

  9. MyLittlePony says:

These two girls are lovely. Perhaps not the most stylish young women around, but certainly hard-working, kind and modest. I do not get the criticism either. Wonderful choice of colours for the Queen (the black/dark navy/dark grey (?) gloves with that coat look great!).

  10. Justme says:

Bea’s hat is fine, but her hair does not fit the cloche style. That is one of my biggest complaints about all the younger royals and aristocrats and hats. I love hats, but you cannot just jam a hat on long straggly tresses and appear polished (this applies equally to Kate and Pippa – not royal that last one of course). You need to style your hair to fit the hat.

With a cloche hat you should wear your hair in a style reminiscent of the 1920s. Not all women in the twenties bobbed their hair (the Queen Mother did not) but they all put it up and away.

Eugenie now has a job working with the Royal Collections – I guess it helps to have “royal connections!” I don’t begrudge it to her, connections are the name of the game in upper class circles.

  11. Reece says:

The dresses are nice for the occasion but the failure is in the details.
Eugenie- Boat necklines and strapless bras, while beautiful in theory, are not your friend when the girls are that size. They give you a boob waist.
Bea- I’m not sure but I’m thinking her dress is shapeless mod-ish dress but she put a belt around it. It looks too big on her but the arms aren’t don’t look big.

I give them credit for trying.

  12. Thinker says:

I really like Bea’s hat!!! Tres chic!!!

However that dresscoat of Bea’s is bad, not worth the cost. I think Kate wore a dress with the same pattern, only Kate’s dess was from the high street and Bea’s is designer.

Eugenie has a very lovely aura about her. Her face is quite symmetrical, squarish which could be masculine but hers is softer, rosy, and pretty. She appears like a solid, serious, kind hearted down to earth girl. Of all the royals, I think I would like her best.

  13. m says:

    Eugenie is wearing Vivienne Westwood.

  14. littlestar says:

I really like both of these girls (despite ALWAYS having their mouths hanging open when the camera is around… JLO face grrr…). However, both of their outfits are absolutely hideous!!! So dated and old looking! And the cut of either outfit is extremely unflattering. And their shoes are wretched. Sigh… The Royals just don’t have any fashion sense whatsoever. With their money and access to design houses, I just don’t understand why they keep wearing the curtains :(.

  15. Scarlet Pimpernel says:

Eugenie is wearing Vivienne Westwood Red Label – retails in the UK (Harvey Nics) for £840.

  16. Cool Phosphorescent Shimmer says:

I like the whole thing Eugenie’s got going there. Poor Beatrice looks a tad…off…in that hat.

I hope the Queen favors these two and leaves them tons of money and jewels in her will–and nothing for Kate. is that bad? I know a lot of her great stuff belongs to the state/country, but in my imagination (and maybe in reality? who knows?), she has this private stash of glorious gems and jewels that are privately owned that she can dish out at will…and I’d love to see these two, Zara Phillips, and Edward’s little girl get it all and leave Kate standing there with her hand out.

    • Justme says:

I doubt if the Queen is going to be giving out too many jewels to any of them. Queen Mary was quite generous with her jewels – giving them out to her daughters-in-law – with the result that some really nice pieces are going to be in non-royal hands eventually. The current Duchess of Gloucester is the wife of Queen’s cousin and she and her husband still are royal and perform royal duties, which necessitate tiaras and jeweled necklaces. However it is unlikely that her own daughters or daughter in law are going to be using those sorts of jewels and what may happen is that they will wind up being sold.

Kate is going to be the one who will need those jewels to wear on state occasions. Not now particularly, but eventually. (Unless the whole royal thing goes belly-up of course).

      • Cool Phosphorescent Shimmer says:

It’s a fantasy of mine, again, that QE2 has a private stash that is hers to distribute. Obviously not the tiaras and crowns and jewels and stuff we all know to “belong to” (ie., be used by) whomever is sitting on the throne…other stuff. Valuable, gorgeous, private stuff that she can pass along to her favorites and stick it to the UNfavorites. Again, just my fantasy.

      • m says:

Actually, the granddaughters will get most of it. All the tiaras and diamonds belong to the queen with the exception of the crown jewels and she reportedly plans on giving most of them to her grandaughters. Kate will have to buy her own stuff or aquire them over time because her inheritance doesnt sound like much.

      • Cool Phosphorescent Shimmer says:

        Yay, M!

      • Sachi says:

Does the Queen lend Camilla any significant jewelry from the Queen’s personal collection? No. I doubt Camilla will have access to the Queen’s personal jewelry when Camilla becomes Queen consort.

Most of Camilla’s jewels are either the Queen Mum’s collection including the Boucheron tiara, which she bequeathed to Charles, or pieces that Charles himself gifted his wife.

The Queen has a massive personal collection of jewels that don’t belong to the Crown and have never been loaned to any of her family members. If she wants to give her jewels to Beatrice, Eugenie, and Louise and her great-grandchildren and leave none to Kate, she is within her rights to do so. Her personal jewels are hers alone. She gets to choose whatever she wants to do with them.

It is not the Queen’s obligation to give Kate jewels or reserve jewels for Kate. Kate will have to “borrow” from a royal vault belonging to the Crown if she wants to wear jewels for State dinners and such, just like most female royals do, or start her own personal jewelry collection.

For example, the Dutch royals have a jewelry vault that is open to all the Dutch Princesses. The jewels are owned by the government so Princess Beatrix (then Queen) had no say in who wanted to wear what, although it helped that Beatrix was very open in sharing the jewels. Beatrix has her own personal jewelry collection that her DIL, the current Queen Maxima, has no access to. Maxima herself has a growing collection of personal jewelry that only she can use.

      • LAK says:

        what Sachi said.

When Kate becomes Consort, if she hasn’t put together her own personal collection, then the only jewellery we shall see on her will be State jewels which belong to the crown, not the family.

      • FLORC says:

        Sachi

If the Queen gifted jewels to Kate would those be Kate’s property forever even in the event of a divorce? Or to avoid losing the jewels if Kate could keep them in a divorce happened would she just gift them to William so Kate could use them, but not own them outright?

      • LAK says:

FLORC – it depends which collection the Jewels come from.

If they are from her personal collection, then Kate owns them outright and can keep them after the divorce. Diana’s ring of doom falls in this category.

If they are from the royal/state collection eg her wedding tiara, then they are only on loan. a lifetime loan. or until the divorce loan.

      • FLORC says:

        Dena

        Thanks LAK

    • Justme says:

Hi M – just curious where did you get that information about the Queen giving most of her jewels to her granddaughters?

It seems unlikely as it would, as I said, wind up dispersing the collection to people who would not have much need for it.

    • Justme says:

I’m sure the Queen is going to give some jewels to her granddaughters, however I would also think that she would leave most to her son for his wife and eventually for her grandson and his wife – who are going to be the ones with the need for them after all.

No reason to think that the Queen hates Camilla and Kate after all. They are the ones who are going to need tiaras and big jewels – not her granddaughters who are going to be leading far quieter and non-royal lives.

      • LAK says:

It isn’t a case of what sort of lives these people are leading or going to lead. The jewellery is her personal property. She can leave it to whom ever she chooses, irrespective of what their lives will be. This isn’t something new. Other members of the wider family are in receipt of major jewels eg Tiaras and necklaces from previous Monarchs eg the Lascelles.

What she can’t give away are the state jewels. That collection is quite substantial, most people probably won’t notice if she doesn’t leave the next monarch any Jewels from her personal collection.

  17. lisa says:

    as usual QEII FTW!

bea seems sweet, she cant help her googly eyes

eugenie i think is sot of cute

    • Amy Tennant says:

Personally, I like her googly eyes. That may be because my own eyes are sort of almond-shaped and heavy-lidded, and I always wished they were wider. I’d trade in a heartbeat.

  18. Decloo says:

I’m sure they are very nice girls but lovely-looking? I don’t think so. They didn’t exactly hit the jackpot gene-wise but I think with better styling they could improve. I think both their outfits are horrible and dowdy. They fit right in with Queenie.

  19. Amy Tennant says:

I think they’re both very pretty. I love their sweet faces. Why should they have to be supermodels? I also think they seem to be fairly grounded, and I think that’s a credit to their parents. Whatever mistakes Andrew and Sarah may have made in their public lives, these young ladies don’t number among them.(I always liked the way A&S seemed to have such an amicable relationship after their divorce, too).
Having said that, they could probably do better in dressing for their curvy figures. They are beautiful girls, and it’s too bad that they so often seem to look a bit frumpy when they’re in the public eye. Better a frump than a biscuit-flasher, I suppose, but there should be some ground in between.

    • Tessa says:

Eugenie is really really pretty imo, and Bea is a cutie and I think I’d want to be her friend, she seems nice. There are really ugly people in the world, and these two girls are not it. They’re cute.

    • mayamae says:

“(I always liked the way A&S seemed to have such an amicable relationship after their divorce, too).”

I always thought it was pretty generous of Andrew (not that I’m a fan) that he stayed close with her considering the public humiliation she served him. I’m wondering if this continued after the scandal in which she was caught on tape taking money in trade for access to Andrew. I’m sure the Queen hates that they stayed close. Fergie is her own worst enemy, but I’ve always noticed she religiously sings the Queen’s praises. Since she has very little common sense, maybe she’s just the ultimate suck up?

  20. Tessa says:

Kaiser, I disagree. I think Beatrice has a lot more Windsor in her than Ferguson. She looks like a Windsor.

  21. Cool Phosphorescent Shimmer says:

Isn’t one of them supposed to be getting married reasonably soon? Or did I dream that up?

  22. LurkeeLee says:

Both are cute, smart and hard working. I can’t hate on them. They seem like nice young women.

  23. Allie says:

I think I remember a Vanity Fair article that was published not too long ago that mentioned the Queen was reducing the official “working” royals to a small circle that does not include Prince Andrew’s or Prince Edward’s children. This basically meant that she was cutting off significant funds that had previously gone to extended family members. Prince Andrew has supposedly been fighting the decision, although it the article made it sound like he was motivated less by charitable aspirations for his family to work on behalf of the royals, and more by financial considerations (Beatrice and Eugenie, for example, lost the right to have a protection team). So in all honestly, I am not sure that the Queen is eager to push these girls into the public eye, and I am not sure that their requests to take on royal duties aren’t an attempt to gain a lot of money or perks for relatively little work.

  24. madchen says:

They look like real people and that’s a good thing.

  25. yeahright says:

Why do people rag on royalty for not working? As if any work they did would be equivalent to working like a common person. Smacks of jealousy to me.

    • FLORC says:

      Yeahright

Because royalty exists still because of the common folk. And if they look like they’re living off the backs of the poor while doing nothing in return for them (like charity awareness) the people might rise up and stop giving them money through their taxes. All those publicly owned houses they live in rent free that the public can’t visit might get frustrating. I comes down to some royals only existing to spend the money of those who earned it and in a day with a recession those people making less and still paying for the monarchy might begin to question why a monarchy is even of any use in this day.

It’s not jealousy. It’s the same as any elected official in the states getting way too much money and doing nothing to earn it while only making sure his rich friends stay rich. Is there much we can do about it, short of a revolt? No. Are we angry and have every right to be questioning why our money goes to help when more comfortably sit on their @$$? Yes! Is that jealousy? I don’t think so.

      • littlestar says:

Yup! Completely agree 100%. It’s one of the main reasons why so many people hate on Kate. She really is a freeloader who does as little as possible >:|.

      • Nina W says:

People hate on Kate for no rational reason that I can determine. She was selected by the Prince and apparently that is reason enough to malign her for a litany of imagined sins. It’s hard to take any criticism of her seriously when there is such on overwhelming tide of vitriol accompanying it.

      • FLORC says:

        Nina W
There’s so much more to the story. So much more that your sentence is only half true, but your mind is made up. If you’re a Kate defender you will praise her without fail. For her accomplishments? Her work ethic? Her natural beauty? Her kind personality? No because she’s proven to not have those qualities. Otherwise it would have showed by now. Just because she’s “pretty” and “selected by the prince”.

Yes, i’m a bit harsh in my analyses of her lately, but it doesn’t change the facts. Bea and Eug are without fail trashed on far more than Kate and they’re sweet girls to the core born with family traits. They don’t deserve the hate they get, but many fans of Kate will gleefully trash on them.

  26. Nick says:

These girls would have been perfect playing one of Walder Frey’s daughters.

    • Elisabeth says:

      ^^^this

I know this is going to sounds amazingly bitchy but geeze…all that money and royalty can’t but that girl some smaller veneers for those teeth?

      • LAK says:

Big teeth and eyes. Family trait for the Windsors.

The Big eyes show up in every generation. Currently B and Frederick.

The teeth, everyone has them Bar Harry. They stand out more for B because she has a small head, mouth and nose.

  27. DianeP says:

The girls can’t be faulted for looking like their parents. However, they can be for their outfits — hidious! The dowdy floral mess and the black and white loud print look like they’re heading to a Bingo game.

  28. faun says:

If Eugenie lost a ton of weight she’d bear some resemblance to Barbara Pierce Bush – Jenna Bush’s twin sister.

    Well, they’re all related somehow.

  29. Lauren says:

I think Bea looks so much like the young Queen Victoria from all her paintings. She definitely has those pop out Hanoverian eyes

  30. Anne says:

    Princess Bea resembles Queen Victoria

  31. Elly says:

Really like Beatrice´s 20s hat! Suits her. Maybe it´s the hat, her eyes don´t “pop”. She looks good!

I know, Beatrice is no glamorous beauty, but i like her and her style (mostly). Sometimes she looks frumpy, but some of her outfits were really cool! She is no “save, boring style-Kate”, Beatrice takes risks, she combinates different styles. I like it!

  32. moon says:

I like Beatrice’s ensemble except for the hideous shoes. Eugenie’s is meh, she looks like a b-list stepford wife, and why is she wearing Kate Middleton’s pumps?

  33. Mskelfirestar says:

The royals job is to supposely promote the interests of the UK and the commonwealth nations. That said, I agree that the only royals that should be supported are the Queen, Prince Phillip, The Prince of Wales and Duchess Camilla and Prince Andrew. Anyone else needs to make their own money.

    • mayamae says:

Out of curiosity, why Andrew and not William and Harry? Andrew is behind them in line to the throne.

  34. Madpoe says:

    What? No matching veils?

  35. Bella says:

    YIKES !ALL THE WAY AROUND!

  36. Mauibound says:

I saw a pix of Bea with her hair cut into a bob and she looked amazing. Kinda wish she’d go back to it.

  37. Patrice says:

If you’ve ever read any unflattering (or even flattering) biographies-or watched any documentaries-on the British monarchy, it becomes incredibly apparent right away that Andrew only wants his girls to become more “official” royals for two reasons: 1. To increase their recognition as assets to the crown BEFORE Charles-the brother who he is infamously un-close to-takes the thrown and is able to cut them off entirely, and 2. Because along with more “work” comes a lot more $$$ courtesy of the Royal Purse. It’s a simple fact that NONE of the royals (not even Princess Ann who I absolutely adore 🙂 ) makes a single one of those “charitable” appearences for free y’all!! More work=more cash.

I actually watched a Buckingham Palace sanctioned documentary last year that openly spoke in depth about how they are desperately trying to reduce the number of royal family collecting sakaries off of the tax payer paid Royal Purse. Apparently when you include all the distant family members of the Queen-some of whom make only one or two appearances a year and STILL collect a hefty yearly salary-there are about a hundred :/ Ridiculous.

    • Another K says:

Thank you for writing what I was thinking! Andrew knows he has to work fast now on Mum before Charles is in charge of the whole deal and Airmiles Andy is shown the door.

    • xxx says:

Yep. See the Vanity Fair article I listed below (and above) in other comments. VERY interesting! One good quote from it:

“…Robert Jobson, author of William & Kate: The Love Story and a royal commentator for NBC News, told me. “When Charles ascends the throne—which he will do despite all the talk to the contrary—he’d like the royal family to be streamlined; he wants a smaller, more cost-effective monarchy. Andrew has made a tremendous effort to keep Beatrice and Eugenie close to the Queen in order to assure their future as fully paid-up members of the Firm, as the royal family is called. In addition to their status as royal highnesses, Andrew has always wanted them to have around-the-clock security and the rank of working royals. But if Charles has his way, the girls will be thrown off the royal payroll and have to fend for themselves. Many of Andrew’s inexcusable actions—consorting with rich oligarchs in North Africa, the Mideast, and the former Soviet Union, and begging friends to bail out Fergie—have been done with his daughters’ welfare in mind.”

also this is interesting, a few years ago:

“The Queen agreed to reimburse the government for its annual Civil List grants—totaling almost $2.5 million—to five of her closest living relatives at the time: the Princess Royal (Anne), the Duke of York (Andrew), the Earl of Wessex (Edward), Princess Margaret, and Princess Alice, the Queen’s last surviving aunt. (Currently only the Queen and Prince Philip receive money from the Civil List.)”

I don’t know how the Civil List works in with the money they get, but things might not be quite what people think in regards to tax payers’ $$

      • xxx says:

Ah sorry, there are plenty of other places where taxes pay for them. I’d forgotten! It is interesting to note that Charles donates 60% of his income to charity though.

  38. Amanda says:

They could be just un-photogenic. Maybe they look better in real life than in pictures?

    • britgirl says:

Their noses are sooo straight! Probably the same surgeon for both sisters.

      • LAK says:

This is such a bizarre criticism. People can’t have straight noses anymore or even the same nose as their ancestors or siblings?

Go have a look at Victoria’s portraits. You’ll see this nose

  39. mimi says:

This family was not blessed in the looks department. to say the least.

What is it about dressing like old people in England?

    Is that a trend?

Are there any “Royal” family members who are good looking or at least Okay looking?
Any one who has a brains in this family and actually has a profession?

Is that really what Brit would like to represent them?

    • FLORC says:

      Mimi

Yes. There is professionalism and brains in their family. Those girls and Harry have it as far as in the constant public eye. Harry of course has had moments where he’s forgotten himself, but still extremely professional when needing to be. And there are a million instances where B and E are dressed beautifully. They’re also great work an social dressers outside of royal duties.

  40. Nikko says:

    They look HOT mess

  41. Suze says:

Eugenie is actually quite classically pretty and Bea is striking – great skin and pretty eyes – but they don’t dress to show off their assets. Unlike the duchess Kate, they aren’t groomed to within an inch of their lives.

With the help of a stylist, I bet they could both pull off some great retro looks.

But I don’t think the British aristos really use stylists – it’s probably considered downmarket and just not done. They like their eccentric and rather dowdy looks thank you very much.

  42. Lynn says:

These girls need serious help from a stylist! They need to employ Halle’s stylist or even Jessica Alba’s stylist. Their problem stem from the fact that they have no real role model for fashion! Have a look at what they are wearing today – ugh!
