I wonder why the name JK Rowling would sell books more than an unknown author with no previous work. Shocking!

    • Reece says:

Because the name JK Rowling comes with a certain stigma. A pseudonym gives her more freedom to just write and if it sucks then it sucks and if it’s great, which I’ve heard this book is, then great.

What I would like to know is who outted her. It really sucks. imo They said it was some mysterious twitter account that tipped off the NY Times

      • Reece says:

Nope Sunday Times not NY Times.

      • Arlene says:

I’m going to go with her publishers ‘outed’ her. Big jump in sales.

      • Sisi says:

Someone did some redearch and saw that the pseusonyms publisher and editor were the exact same as Rowlings, so it was kinda obvious then.

      • Tiffany :) says:

The big point of all of this for me is: both “JK Rowling” and her new pseudonym disguise the fact that she is female. The publishing world is very hard on female authors.

I once read an article on the challenges of female writers in general, but mystery writers specifically. There is a lot of sexism in that industry!

      • hazeldazel says:

well gee, the book under the pseudonym sells only 1500 copies and then mysteriously gets “outed” as being written by J.K. Rowling where it becomes the number one seller on Amazon. Hmmm…

      • poiup says:

Apparently other clues were the author is the only one on publisher’s site without a portrait photo and the writing style is the same.

But if the publisher outed her with her approval then good for her anyway for keeping it secret for 3 months.

    • Shoe_Lover says:

I’m not surprised Jo Rowling did this. Did you see some of the reviews for A Casual Vacancy? Stuff like “this isn’t Harry Potter at all. It has adult language in it, I shouldn’t have to hear my child ask what a c#nt is” which is so stupid as it was clearly advertised as a novel for adults. And it was a good book but some people just couldn’t get their heads around it not being Harry Potter

      • littlestar says:

That’s terrible :(. Especially since JK Rowling herself said it was an adult novel. I think one of the signs of a great writer is someone who is able to write in several different genres effortlessly, and it seems JK Rowling has been able to do that. Too bad people think she should only write “Harry Potter” stuff.

    • Veery Verytas says:

Stevie Wonder and The Four Seasons released records under different names to see if people were buying the talent or the name.

  2. Jane says:

    Because we’re all professional pitchers.

  3. G. says:

Carly’s hair color in the last picture is so gorgeous. I want it.

    • gg says:

ITA. I think she is adorable. My GP looks exactly like her too.

That trend of painting your nails to clash with each other though, has got to go.

    • Joanna says:

I know! I LOVE that shade of red!

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

She dyed it that colour to perform on Parliament Hill on Canada Day. Her colouring seems to favour those bold and solid colour jobs. Unless it’s a wig. That colour seems like it would be a pain in a half to maintain, but she looks cute either way.

  4. IWantToLiveInNew York says:

Maybe I’m late to the game but Kris Jenner is the real fame whore in that family right? I always thought that it was Kimmy, but the more I see of Kris the more I think this is what she really wanted when she was young and wasn’t able to get it. So she kind of living through her daughter?

Also in gallery photos shes got a police escort, WHY?

    • HappyMom says:

      Exactly this. So disgusting.

    • claire says:

I have come to realize this as well. All of this….selling the sex tape, pimping out the family…it’s all been for Kris to get the spotlight and fulfill her dream of her own show.

      • FLORC says:

It’s always been Kris and this is documented in Kardashian’s Diary during his divorce from Kris.
Though the 3 daughters are all adults now they’re still damaged from their mother. I think Kim is the worst off because the others have said Kim got the most attention from Kris and was her “favorite” aka blank check. Now she’s trying to pimp out her first grandchild. This woman is the worst. Poor Kendall.

  5. Cerulean Skygirl says:

When you’re a celebrity throwing out the first pitch, do you get any practice pitches before the game? Maybe Carly Rae could have tossed a few and gotten a few pointers from someone on the pitching staff beforehand.

    • JenD says:

She had thrown a few before the opening pitch and had done better than that.

    • MollyB says:

My father-in-law, a HUGE baseball fan, got to throw out a first pitch at a baseball game. He and my husband practiced for hours and hours and when he finally got his shot, he totally blew it. So, even if you do practice, there’s not guarantee!

  6. Kiddo says:

Maybe it’s the heat, but I want to punch that stupid smug look off that completely unprofessional, condescending doctor in TN.

  7. kim says:

    Totally forgot about carly rae

  8. Turtle Dove says:

You’d think that Doctors would be professional, but they aren’t always. Case in point – being mean girled by a doctor (therapist) because of my weight. Yep. True.

I saw her three times and each time she saw me she told me how bad I looked (not true at all, I’m just tall and thin, always have been). First I didn’t look good, then terrible, and finally I looked like shit. No joke. BTW, I was seeing this person for anxiety and depression because of PTSD. Nice. What a pro.

    • Mich says:

That is terrible!!!! I hope you told her off!

    • InvaderTak says:

Report her. (assuming you haven’t already) I’m sure who you’d go to, but there has to be a review board, or a complaints department somewhere. Totally out of line. I cannot stand that kind of behaviour from professional people.

i have had my own bad experiences with doctors (medical). I did report one and his nurse and they both lost their licenses the next day. When I did, a sh!t ton of other former patients came forward. The guy is lucky he’s not in jail. Point being, there are people who will do something about things like this. Just have to find them.

      • Turtle Dove says:

Thanks for the support! I did report the person, and she’s still practicing. I went to another therapist and he was wonderful. There’s no accounting for some people. Like any poor “business”, I always pass it on. Hopefully, I hit her bottom line for mean-girling me about my bottom.

  9. Rachel says:

Wow. A doctor told a woman she had “ghetto booty” and he doesn’t understand what that was offensive???

    • Lucrezia says:

It appears the doctor is American, and it sounds like this is definitely offensive in the US, so he should’ve realised it might cause offense.

But, as a non-American, I’m struggling to figure out why you guys find it offensive. All I hear is another way to say “bubble-butt”.

Is the problem that “ghetto booty” = African-American booty, and it’s thus a racist insult implying African-Americans live in ghettos?

(Because that’s not my automatic association at all. The first person that came to mind was actually J.Lo, the second was Coco Austin.)

  10. Cheryl says:

Hate to hijack this thread, but did anyone else see the blind item the sun reported? – I just saw it on dlisted… I hope y’all cover this tomorrow! I can see this blowing up in a fierce way if true… Poor goopy!

    • Al says:

Yes! I was reported on one of the top news websites here (Australia) yesterday. The first person I thought of was Goop…

    • MollyB says:

When I frist saw it, I thought Gavin Rossdale (or whatever his name is) and then it hit me–Goopy!!

      • Lark says:

I feel bad for Goopy. Blind Items are total BS most of the time, but there definitely was an injunction filed not that long ago about something similar. There are only a limited number of big, stadium rock stars. It may not be Chris…it could be Gavin Rossdale for example…but the sudden uptick in Chris and Goopy personal photos and the weird thing where she is telling her friends to avoid Vanity Fair…Well, that’s all kind of suspicious.

  11. Kim1 says:

Jason Patric is on Katie discussing why he cant see his son because he is deemed a sperm donor because they did IVF at fertility clinic. If they were married or got pregnant thru sex he would have parental rights

    • Janey says:

Didn’t he sign away his rights to keep from having to pay any child support or medical bills? If he did then he should not have any rights no more than a stranger who donates sperm would.I think that is fair.

      • Kim1 says:

He said absolutely not he even has cards from his ex where she calls him the boys daddy. This guy was in tears because he hasnt seen his son in twenty weeks. He cant see the boy because of How he was conceived at the clinic. For his bday in 2012 she gave Jason a bday cake with their son’s pic on it.He was daddy until five months ago.Another thing Jason had to have a painful surgical procedure before doing IVF he wouldnt undergo procedure to be just sperm donor .He wanted to be coparent

      • Kim1 says:

a painful procedure before he could provide sample for IVF due to a blockage. He wouldnt do that just to be sperm donor he wanted to be a parent.

      • Bijlee says:

I think he did. That’s why the judge called him a sperm donor because he made it clear to his ex that he wanted nothing to do with the kid. He didn’t want to support him nothing.

@kim1 well he is the baby’s dad. How else is she gonna refer to him? Legally he’s not recognized as such. This whole thing is a mess.

  12. RobN says:

Worst first pitch ever. If you can’t throw a little, then don’t get involved. These things are planned weeks, if not months, ahead of time. Take a little time and figure out what you’re doing.

Lucky for her it was a Ray’s game and there were 11 people in the stadium.

  13. Lark says:

Wow, that blind item about Goop. Look, I believe most blind items are total BS but I do recall that British libel laws are odd and people can get injunctions to prevent certain things from coming out. I imagine when you get an injunction, things can leak. I just recall hearing about a similar injunction a while ago, and now I’m wondering if it is Chris Martin? I mean, we know the injunction is a real thing…it’s just guessing who filed it.

  14. DoMaJoReMc says:

How Fame-Wh0rishly predictable of Kris Jenner. UGH! She sickens me. 😛

——And I didn’t watch (wouldn’t be caught DEAD watching that)—so don’t know of this was North West or not.
