Jenny McCarthy ‘beyond thrilled’ to join The View as permanent co-host

Jenny McCarthy

About a week ago, we covered the report that Jenny “40 is the new 15” McCarthy was in very serious talks to replace Joy Behar when the current season of “The View” came to an end. Most of you responded that Jenny was ill-equipped to discuss serious issues in a public forum, but of course the ladies of “The View” aren’t exactly known for being the most informed bunch on television.

Now Jenny has been “officially” revealed as a permanent co-host of the show starting next season. She will bring many things to the show — big hair and big boobs among them — and will certainly be on her anti-vaccine soap box at every opportunity. That’s the thing about Jenny. She will not stand idly by and let anyone else dominate the conversation, but I guess this will make for some semi-interesting arguments. And I guess that means that producers will be getting what they’re paying for with this hiring announcement:

Jenny McCarthy

Less than two weeks after Us Weekly reported that Jenny McCarthy was “in serious talks” to join The View as Joy Behar’s replacement, Barbara Walters confirmed that the 40-year-old blonde has been hired as a new co-host during the July 15 episode the ABC talk show. McCarthy has appeared 17 times on The View (including eight as a guest co-host) and will officially begin appearing on the show when its 17th season premieres Monday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. EST.

“We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on The View starting in September,” said Walters, the only panelist who’s been with the show since its 1997 debut. “Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for The View.”

McCarthy — whose late-night chat fest, Vh1’s “The Jenny McCarthy Show”, is on hiatus — added, “I’m beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table. I’d like to thank ABC for this great opportunity. I’d also like to give a big thank you to Vh1 for their support and for allowing me to fulfill this lifelong dream. I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off.”

This cast will be virtually unrecognizable next season other than Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd. Along with Joy, Barbara Walters previously announced that she was leaving after this season, and last week’s somewhat sudden departure of Elisabeth Hasselbeck provides a further shakeup for the show, castwise, but I have no doubt that producers will choose replacements that will be “controversial” and therefore bring in some much needed ratings. As for Jenny, I’m sure she’ll get on everyone’s nerves with her “zany” and obnoxious humor, but I guess it could be worse … like if they hired Kirstie Alley.

The show is going to crash and burn. No doubt about it.

  2. lisa2 says:

I don’t feel as if Barbara cares about the show anymore. Joy is going, Whoopie doesn’t care who they put in any chair as long as she is getting paid, Sherri is just glad to be working.

This show went to pot a long time ago. And Jenny is a terrible choice. But she will fit in perfectly.

  3. Backwards says:

Can’t decide what’s worse, Kris Jenner getting a talk show or Jenny “think of autism as a fart and vaccines are the finger you pull to make it happen” McCarthy being hired to flaunt her un-informed and dangerous views to the world.

    • Jane says:

I think they are neck and neck for a tie on this one.

      • Petee says:

I saw her on there and I thought she did quite well. She was smart and funny.Believe me I am not a fan of her’s but I thought they had so many co host’s this was a rehearsal. And I knew they were going to pick her.Next will be Brooke Sheilds.Anything is better then that screeching, whining Elisabeth.I will miss Joy.She is honest and funny.

  4. marie says:

why the f-k are they giving her a forum to spew more crap is beyond me.I didn’t watch it before, and I won’t watch it now.

  5. Cazzee says:

    Egad. This woman is awful.

She’s a blowhard and a total anti-vaccination lunatic, and now she has a job on a daytime TV show? Sigh…well, hopefully noone will watch it.

  6. janie says:

I like Jenny McCarthy, but at this point I think it’s the last season for the View. Jenny is too bawdy for daytime, she can’t or won’t control her mouth. The show is done.

  7. lisa says:

she is perfect for the show

she is shrill and loud and goes on and on about things she knows nothing about

  8. MoxyLady007 says:

Oh great. Now she can spread her anti vaccine lunacy even further and more children will die. She is a delight.

  9. MademoiselleRose says:

I used to watch it, but couldn’t stand that obnoxious Elisabeth Hasselback so stopped. Thought since she was leaving I might give it another shot, but not if Jenny McCarthy is there. What the hell is she going to bring to the party? Nothing I want to hear. For cripes’ sake, if you’re going to have a bunch of women talking to each other for an hour, you want to have some intelligent conversation there.

  10. TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

Yes, Lisa, this is the Oxford scholar they hired as a replacement. Just to liven things up she should show up the first day in that outfit in the first pic.

  11. Joanna says:

she is so beyond ridiculous! if she would just class up her image, she could land a very good man. She is so pretty in that pic with the glasses. If she toned it down, she would have NO problem landing a rich man. then she could bring the freak out in the bedroom. but she’s so desperate to be seen as hot and sexy, she goes over the top. even in normal clothes, she would be seen as hot and sexy. but she doesn’t get that.

    • Bodhi says:

“Landing a good/rich man” isn’t every woman’s goal. She is rich enough on her own. Maybe she wants to date & not settle down?

    • JenD says:

I watched a special on her eons ago (back when she did that MTV dating show), and she said to stand out from a the other pretty blondes, she accentuated her zany humor (or however she categorized her personality). For a 20-something, that’s fine. But as an adult who wants to be taken seriously, it’s ridiculous and embarrassing.

  12. Babalon says:

    Ugh.

    That is all.

  13. truthful says:

Welp, guess I’ll continue to NOT watch, from Hasselback to Jenny..STILL annoying as ever.

  14. Anon says:

Just another day of yelling and screaming over each other and at each other

  15. Itsa Reallyme says:

Well, I only occasionally tuned in to watch the View depending on who the guests were. I can now say, without a doubt, that I will NEVER tune in again. I don’t care who the guests are. I cannot stand Jenny McCarthy. Cannot.

  16. Sabrine says:

What’s the big deal? They’re exchanging one dumb, uninformed twit for another.

  17. tracking says:

Terrible choice. There were more interesting names in the mix. Don’t get it.
