Katy Perry prepped 3 months for her Vogue cover, including no alcohol

Katy Perry

Here are some photos of Katy Perry at the Los Angeles premiere of Smurfs 2: Bedhead’s Descent Into Hell. Yeah, I’m so not looking forward to reviewing this one and wondering why Neil Patrick Harris has decided to do this to his career. Once again, Katy voices Smurfette, and she looks rather pretty in a Tadashi Shoji dress with Pedro Garcia shoes. I do like the dress quite a bit because the fabric drapes well and reminds me of my prom dress (that was actually a cheap knockoff of Stephanie Seymour’s “November Rain” gown), which sort of says something about Katy’s fashion taste. As always, one can tell that Katy made a huge time investment on her makeup for the evening.

Speaking of time-consuming endeavors, Katy has admitted that she took three months to prepare for her recent Vogue cover and editorial, which I imagine included time thinking about how to properly trash Russell Brand in the interview. What exactly did Katy’s preparation involve? Tons of vitamins, no coffee or alcohol (really?), and whatever else Katy thought could make her “glow.” Such measures seem like overkill since the cover was heavily Photoshopped because that’s what magazines do these days. Oh well:

It’s not easy being a Vogue cover girl! While taking to Jay Leno on Friday, July 26, Katy Perry admitted that the July issue photo spread — shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz — required intense preparation.

“I did a lot of my own prepping,” the “Wide Awake” singer, 28, said of the cover that was shot on a farm in Upstate New York. “I kind of went on a cleanse, I did a lot of stuff like vitamins and supplements, I changed my coffee to green tea, I didn’t drink alcohol for three months.”

“I was really in the zone, I just wanted to be glowing for that cover,” she continued.

Indeed, in May, John Mayer’s current girl showed off various supplements she was taking in a Twitter picture. “I’m all the about that supplement & vitamin LYFE,” she wrote with the pic.

Despite the regimen, Perry seemed pleased with the end result — sharing how “amazing” it was to work with Leibovitz. “She’s incredible,” she said. “It was really fantastic working with her … She [has] such a great vibe, she’s got no ego which is fantastic, and she really let’s [sic] me be creative as well.”

Perry, who voices Smurfette in the upcoming July 31 Smurfs 2 movie, also opened up about the vibe of her upcoming album, which she said will debut “soon.”

“I’ve had a lot of time to reflect, and I think that it will continually be what I always do — connecting to my core and trying to bring an honest message that people can relate to,” she said.

In case you missed Katy’s vitamin and supplement tweet, here’s a link to the photo that makes me believe that Katy simply poops plastic capsules. Sorry to be gross, but nobody needs that many useless pills. Talk about pouring money down the toilet. Vitamins and minerals should mostly come from food sources for best absorption, right? That’s what I’ve always read, but I do take one daily supplement that contains calcium, vitamin D, zinc, and magnesium because one can never be too careful with one’s bones. In comparison, all those baggies seem quite excessive.

Thankfully, we are not seeing photos of Katy with John Mayer on this red carpet. Instead, Katy brought her grandma as her date! We haven’t seen Grams since last year’s Billboard Awards, and this lady has spunk.

3 months?? Damn. And it’s hardly some iconic cover, she doesn’t look any worse or any better than she usually does.

  2. Sisi says:

she prepped for three months and doesn’t even look any different

    Oh well…

  3. Esmom says:

The cover looks good but she’s not “glowing” any more than anyone else has. I’m thinking she could have shown up hung over and sleepless and the end result would have been the same. Still if it boosted her confidence then I guess there’s no harm in prepping for three months…

  4. Beatrice says:

Kate Moss must have gotten a big laugh from that!

  5. lisa2 says:

I don’t get all that prep for a cover. I know really beautiful women that just show up and get the pictures taken and it is over and the pictures are memorable and stunning.

I don’t know why this new crop of people make every magazine cover such hard work. If you are an interesting person it comes through in the pictures. No prep needed. I guess they are talking about being thinner or something.

that cover is very pretty and I like that blue outfit.

    • TG says:

You are so right. It seems like these celebs think being thin will make them attractive never mind being interesting, I don’t think that is a concept they understand since most of them are 100% fake at everything.

  6. Tessa says:

She was carrying some extra weight there for a while. I actually remember thinking how refreshing it was that she didn’t appear to care about an extra five here and there. I thought they were “happy” pounds from when she started dating John Mayer. Drinking, going out to eat a lot, getting popcorn on movie dates…

She’s as thin as she’s ever been right now. I guess that’s what Anna Wintour does to people. You’re not Vogue worthy unless you’re hungry.

    Shes a tool

  8. unmade_bed says:

I loved the The Smurfs movie! First 3D experience outside of Busch Gardens!

  9. Ari says:

what was the point of all of that lol they are just going to photoshop you anyway honey

  10. ALG says:

What a waste of time. They just airbrushed the photos anyway.

    • Alexandria says:

Right. You could basically show up looking like Lindsay Lohan and they’d just ‘shop you until you looked like a VS model anyway.

  11. Mew says:

Even with calcium it’s much better to get it from food (dairy for example) as the calcium supplements have been linked with cancer and other rather negative things. Anyway yeah, much more for her that must’ve been mental thing than anything real, with that amount of makeup and photoshop they could make even Lindsay Lohan glow.

  12. Joanna says:

didn’t she used to have big boobs? did she lose them when she lost weight? that hair color is too dark and harsh, she needs to change it.

  13. AH says:

I wish I could have accurate measurements of Katy perry, because proportionately we have realllly similar proportions, especially in the legs, but without a reference I can never tell what it would look like if we stood next to one another. It drives me insane haha. I also love her grandma’s top!!

  14. Micki says:

Awww, the Vogue photoshoped her glow….

  15. It'sJustBlanche says:

Why prep when they’re just going to photoshop it into oblivion?

  16. emmie_a says:

No matter what she wears she looks cheap. Her styling is all types of wrong. And she sort of looks sick on the Vogue cover.

  17. Mayday says:

    Prep?

She looks like she has dead eyes on that cover. Not her best if you ask me.

  18. Alexandria says:

I’m surprised Anna Wintour gave Katy the September issue cover. Like, really surprised.

    • AH says:

Id hope that the surprise factor is why she would do it, from a marketing perspective. Katy perry is really popular and they’ve made her look as haute couture as possible, for the normal readers that’s a plus as well as a really good way to get new people to buy the issue. And what better time to do that than the September issue!

    • ldub says:

this was the july issue. claire danes is on the august issue cover and it’s rumored that jennifer lawrence is on the september issue cover.

which makes sense since she’ll be promoting her roles in “serena” and “hunger games”.

also, anna would rather put sjp on the cover, AGAIN, before putting this pale street urchin on the “coveted cover” of the leading, albeit TIRED, fashion bible.

  19. Tara says:

Lots of pills in plastic baggies – its just like being back with Russell! But seriously, if she had that much discipline then she should not return to her old habits. She would feel better and better.

    • Ella says:

Hmm… what? “it’s just like being back with Russell”? Russell hasn’t taken any drugs for over 10 years. Even as a joke, that makes no sense … unless I’m missing your meaning.

      • Tara says:

Lol yes you missed my meaning. I meant she was using the pills in order to put up with Russell. Obviously a joke because Katy is a boozehound but has never done drugs as far as i know.

  20. Amy says:

She looks pretty here. I like she isn’t showing off the girls, considering she seems to do that at every single event. It’s a kids’ movie, not the VMAs and I’ms so glad she dressed appropriately (for once).
