Rachel McAdams in Roksanda Ilincic in the UK: futuristic priestess or lovely?

I have an awkward confession. I try to be all jaded and cynical, but really… I love Richard Curtis, who is like the king of sweet romantic comedies. He wrote the screenplays for Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and he wrote and directed Love Actually, Pirate Radio and this new Rachel McAdams film, About Time. These are photos from the premiere of About Time, which stars Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel and Bill Nighy. If you haven’t seen the trailer for About Time yet… it looks very sweet. Very romantic and lovely, but completely cheeseball. So I’ll probably see it, of course. But I won’t tell anyone. Here’s the trailer:

Anyway… Rachel wore this outfit (these are separates, if you can believe that) by Roksanda Ilincic. When I first saw these pics yesterday, I was like, “Ugh, why is she dressed as a futuristic priestess?” But I don’t really hate it. Mostly I want to fix the sleeves and make the tailoring better overall. As for Rachel’s red hair… she dyed it a few months ago, finally ridding herself of that terrible bleach-blonde look she had while dating Michael Sheen. I like her as a redhead, but I still think the color is off. She needs a better colorist overall.

At the premiere, Rachel talked about how much she loved working in England, saying: “I love working in British cinema, it is simply delightful because everybody is so much fun and people are always making jokes on set. But it was quite challenging to work on a British film because the rhythm of humor is different to movies elsewhere.”

I kinda like it. But, I agree that the tailoring could be better.

She is forever gorgeous. Not sure how I feel about that dress but I love her. Sidenote though: isn’t it funny how Lindsay’s co-stars from Mean Girls (i.e Rachel and Amanda Seyfried) are still working actresses, not going crazy, and Lindsay’s a perpetual cautionary tale? Just goes to show how decisions can really shape the rest of your life.

  3. I think she looks great! And seeing her as a redhead again fills me with nostalgic Notebook feels 🙂

  4. nuzzybear says:

It’s okay, but the white is rather unforgiving – showing off underwires and such.

  5. Anna says:

The color of her hair is so brassy! Girl get a better colorist! And the dress is awesome, but the fit is a little off. Still. Who doesn’t love her?? Seriously.

  6. TheOriginalKitten says:

    She looks beautiful as always.
I’d be excited to see more of this kind of futuristic, modern-style making a comeback. Sort of reminds me of the turn of the millennium where silver was everywhere.

She’s getting really thin again though. For a while, she was looking a little more filled-in in Midnight in Paris and during her relationship with Sheen. I hope she’s not just super-stressed..

    • Anna says:

But this is like…electric silver, with that purplish blue sheen, which even makes it more interesting. I like it.

    • Liv says:

I love her so much! And I agree with all of you, the dress is great and suits her and she should gain weight back.

  7. nuzzybear says:

At second perusal I like it more and am grateful for getting to see something different – not exactly in a “bow before Cate Blanchett” kind of way, but something like that.

  8. Kate says:

Great dress until you look close and see how badly it’s tailored (or rather, not tailored). What’s going on with the bust area, am I seeing Rachel’s bra underwire through the fabric or is that a feature of the dress?

  9. nuzzybear says:

And how is CB not covering the Leah Remeni missing persons report on Mrs. Miscavidge??? I expected it to be in all caps!

    • Hautie says:

No joke. I was out of the loop yesterday and did not read about it happening till this morning.

But I suspect that Leah has decided not to put up with being attacked by that cult. Without fighting them all back in their faces.

And I really want to know which under ground bunker they unearth Shelly from… cause that Cult produced her ASAP to shut down the LAPD from getting in their business.

      • nuzzybear says:

I’m picturing a “Weekend at Bernie’s” kind of thing with Shelly’s head lolling to one side and the CoS-owned police saying “Good enough for me!”

    • starrywonder says:

FYI I am kind of in love with Leah Remini right now. That is a hard core I am coming for your butt move.

I love her as a redhead and the dress isn’t that bad, I just can’t hate on her, she’s awesome!

  11. Dani says:

Ugh she’s so stunning she could wear a sack and have bees nest on her head and I still wouldn’t think otherwise.

This movie is pretty similar in a sense to Time Traveler’s Wife and I loooooved that so, definitely seeing this.

  12. Elodie says:

Only here for Domhnall Gleeson… that young Irish fella is on my radar… hello there Ginger unnfffff!

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

Yay, Domhnall Gleeson. I love the Gleesons, maybe not in the crush way, but there is something so incredibly adorable about them. Brendan Gleeson have been one of my favourite actors for years. I watch all his movies, even the bad ones and his acting is always brilliant. He also has a reputation of a total sweetheart who always has time for his fans. I didn’t know that Domhnall was his son when I first saw him in a movie and I had the same feelings about him – he is not the most handsome guy, but there is something really likeable about him, he is very funny in interviews and he was the best part about the new Anna Karenina. I don’t know much about the other acting brother – Briain but there is also the only dark-haired Gleeson brother named Fergus, who is a bassist for James Vincent McMorrow. I was at their show once and got a chance to chat with them for a little while. He’s like the nicest guy you could meet. I’d love to read more about the Gleesons and less about the Kardashians.

i’m a loser, i know, but I love that there are Rachel and Ryan posts on the same day!

  14. Decloo says:

I LOVE BILL NIGHY. That is all.

  15. Lucy says:

The dress does give me some Leia Skywalker vibes, but I like it. I like the red hair too, but I think blonde suits her better. And I didn’t recognize Domhnall Gleeson until you pointed out it was him! I like him a lot.

  16. Reece says:

Bill finally got a haircut! Mrs. Weasley would be so proud. For those who don’t get that I weep for you.

I like the dress or the pieces put together to make a dress. A lot! Simple. Clean.
This movie looks cute too. I love Bill Nighy.

  17. unmade_bed says:

Oh, I love it! She looks beautiful. Almost makes me want to get up, exercise and clean out my closet!

  18. Deb says:

Hate her hair love the dress

  19. Emily C. says:

I like it because it has a futuristic priestess vibe. Plus it looks relatively comfortable.

  20. Guest says:

    Simply beautiful and talented.

  21. Gaby says:

She’s just so beautiful and delicate…

  22. F5 says:

    Yikes

  23. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

She is so gorgeous. She looks stunning.

  24. angee says:

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Did I mention gorgeous?

  25. Ginger says:

I like her better as a red head but maybe a bit darker. I think she’s gorgeous but I don’t like this outfit at all. The back reminds me of a maxi pad with the blue line, sorry.

  26. Goldfish says:

She’s stunning! I don’t hate the dress, but I don’t love it either. She’s such a beautiful lady. Wish she made some better fashion choices. I think with her figure and face, she could take it to the next level with some better style.

  27. Lauren says:

Rachel has a stunningly beautiful face. Wish she could covet a hair color and man worthy of her.

  28. Kasia says:

This film looks promising…it’s going to be cheesy, but hopefully in a good way (I hope you know what I mean)
