Lily Collins in lacy white Houghton in Canada: dramatic or boring?

Lily Collins

These are pictures of Lily Collins at the Canadian premiere of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. I’ve seen the trailer for this movie multiple times but haven’t really grasped the full subject matter because there is so much crap flying towards the screen. Very frenetic stuff, right? But I gather that Lily plays a girl named Clary who is able to fight demons, and this franchise is meant to go the way of very successful young-adult franchises like Twilight and Hunger Games. We’ll see.

Let’s talk about this dress, which is Houghton and doesn’t fit poor Lily at all in the front. I don’t like this dress at all because it’s so boring and shapeless from the front, but it is completely backless, so it’s supposed to be “dramatic.” Blah. I prefered her crazy toga look from last week’s Los Angeles premiere. Also, has anyone else noticed that Lily is toning down her brows? So much for brow pride.

In the meantime, Lily must not be having the easiest time with this press tour since she and her co-star Jamie Campbell Bower split up a few weeks ago after dating for a little over a year. That can’t be fun at all, but dating coworkers can always be awkward anyway — even though it happens in Hollywood all the time. Here’s Lily posing awkwardly beside Jamie (in burgundy), and they are also pictured with Robert Sheehan and Kevin Zegers.

Here’s some photos of Lily looking super cute today in London while continuing on the promotional trail. This dress is so flirty and mod (with a modern twist, of course), and Lily has great street style compared to a lot of her red carpet stuff.

And here’s Lily out at a G-Store Raw event in Los Angeles last week. The pencil skirt is kind of cool, but that top looks like it was made out of toilet paper.

    Gorgeous girl but SO vanilla.

  3. pretty says:

    she is so so gorgeous.

  4. KatieD says:

Beautiful girl but dress is in serious bridal gown territory.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Agree. Also something Granny about it for her age. She is lovely, though. Will probably make a few mistakes looking for her style.

  5. emmie_a says:

Too wedding dress-like for my liking — but I love the black dress. And she is gorgeous.

  6. mar says:

what is with her and white?

  7. Dana says:

I may have to check this out if Robert Sheehan is in it. I hated when he left “Misfits”. It completely changed the dynamics of that show, even if Nathan wasn’t my favorite character.

  8. Mela says:

So boring. The audience for the movie is teens, not brides. I agree that the black k street outfit was so much cuter.

And that break-up might make a sequel hard to film if he’s supposed to be the Edward to her Bella. However, I’m hoping this movie bombs so spectacularly that studios give up on the Twilight Box Office dream already.

    • LAK says:

The sequel is already in production. They start shooting next month (if they haven’t started already)

      • Cara says:

I would wager the sequel thing is a bluff – other movies have done so before to try and project an image of confidence, anticipation and scale. The truth is that fan sites of this movie are begging fans to see it multiple times during opening weekend to get the ratings.

  9. Anna says:

Far too bridal. The block mod thing is cuter bc FACE.

And that franchise is going to ‘underperform’ at best. Less Twilight/HP/HG and more Percy Jackson and Beautiful Creatures.

  10. Nerd Alert says:

Twilight was big because Twihards preceded the movies. Same with Hunger Games. This book series has a small-to-decent following, but there’s nowhere near the anticipation to match for these films. This is a good thing; I hope this tween movie trend dies sooner rather than later. I lot of people here are sick of superhero/comic book movies, but I am sick of this generic teenaged Mary Sue crap.

    • LAK says:

      I am with you there.

However, we DIVERGENT and VAMPIRE ACADEMY (and sequels) to come next year.

Hey! Have you gotten around to reading any Sporkings? Also, you may or may not already know about this website, but as an aspiring writer I think it’s very important to have in your arsenal: TV Tropes dot org. 😀

  11. Kelly says:

Don’t like her, but my, she’s beautiful. Lucky!

  12. Itwillrain says:

I don’t think her brows are that toned down. You just can’t see them in their full glory from a distance.

  13. truthSF says:

Is this girl related to my fav singer, Phil Collins?

And isn’t Robert Sheehan Whit(Irish)…why does he look mixed in the above photo?

  14. wonderwoman21 says:

I think she is really pretty, but i want to pluck her eyebrows in the middle just so they’re lined up with the bridge of her nose.

    • Jazz Fab says:

um, why? what is this people’s obsession for women always looking “perfect” all the damn time? She looks fine the way she is and I love her eyebrows.

  15. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

Robert Sheehan! <3 Sigh. Although I hate his outfit and that spray tan needs to go.

Lily is very pretty, but I'm not liking the outfits here.

  16. Snazzy says:

Blah. She is just so uninteresting this is all I can say

  17. knightweasel says:

The black look is Stella McCartney.

  18. Jasmine says:

Robert didn’t use spray fake tan. It’s his natural tan. He tans easily and he’s spent a lot of time in the sun.
