Robert Pattinson’s Dior campaign has a new artsy teaser: awful & budget?

Here are some photos of Robert Pattinson on the set of Maps to the Stars from the past two days. He has a haircut and he’s wearing a nice suit. He’s working with David Cronenberg again, which must be a happy experience for him. Will Cronenberg become his go-to director, like Leo DiCaprio and Marty Scorsese? Who knows. I will give Cronenberg some credit – he seems to only work with Rob when Rob is looking good. Like, Cronenberg doesn’t cast Rob to play schlubby characters.

Anyway, Dior’s neverending “tease” of Rob’s campaign has hit a new low. Dior is tired of dragging out the release of the print images from Rob’s campaign and now they’ve made a video teaser. This teaser looks like something that James Franco would create. Hand to God. It’s so “arty” that Lady Gaga is going to copy it and claim it as an original work.

Meanwhile, as we discussed on Sunday, Rob “shoved” a security guard on his way out of Troubadour several nights ago. If you go back and watch the video, it’s not like Rob was being hyper-aggressive or anything, and there were several people touching him and grabbing him. I thought that it was all a mistake – but other people had other ideas. Now Hollywood Life’s source claims Rob genuinely “feels bad” for what happened:

Rob has seen the infamous TMZ video of himself pushing the security guard and he realizes he got the wrong guy, a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.

“He was grabbed at one point on his way out and he couldn’t see who did it with all the flashes, and the security guard who was whisking him away to his car was the closest and most available guy to grab,” the source reveals. “Rob was buzzed as well, so add being buzzed, hundreds of flashes from the cameras and just being annoyed that he couldn’t just leave…that’s why he flipped out for the split second.”

That’s no excuse though, and Rob knows what he did was wrong.

“He feels bad but also knows he didn’t put much force into what he did,” the source reveals. “He is not worried about hurting anyone as it was more of a tap than a grab. It is now water under the bridge.”

That said, Rob doesn’t want to make any enemies — he’s not too proud to say he’s sorry.

“If and when he is there again and sees the guy, he will apologize, but he is not going to make a separate trip to make up for it,” the source adds.

[From Hollywood Life]

This is so dumb. If you feel bad about wrongly shoving someone, go and apologize. Simple as that.

Haha this whole Dior campaign has been such a fail

    • V4Real says:

      To exaggerate an epic fail.

      • Olivia says:

I love how he disses his obsessive fans all the while knowing they will support him as long as he throws them a bone or two. A little for the Robsessed and a little for the shippers. He knows how to play the pr game well!

I think it is interesting that so many people were protecting him yet he still felt the need to lash out. He has never done that before. Maybe all the tabloid bs is getting to him. He was more chill and composed and had a better plan after the cheating scandal. This time he is just being sloppy with his behavior and actions.

That said, it would be cool if he hung out with some quality industry people to counterbalance his latest party friends.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

        @Olivia
What do the quality (or lack thereof) of his friends have to do with the fact that he thought someone was grabbing on him, so he pushed the person. It just happened to be a security guard and not one of the numerous paps that was all around him. I don’t understand why people are taking ONE incident and drawing all those conclusions from it. All I saw was someone who shoved a person who he thought was grabbing on him. Case closed.

      • Lark says:

        @Virgilia Coriolanus
IA this topic is getting old. I saw the photos, and he grabbed the guy by the face and pushed him hard while grinning. The man’s head went back and his glasses fell off. It wasn’t like he just shoved the guy by the shoulders.

I get that the paps suck. They are terrible and I sympathize with Kanye and Sparkles and anyone who loses it on their asses. However, they weren’t any rougher or any worse with him than they are with other celebrities and there was multiple security people there. Getting physical also crosses a major line in my book. The man is white, British and has a dick so somehow it’s okay for him to shove someone by the face who he thinks pushed him. If his stans said, “Well he made a mistake but it’s understandable considering how dickish the paps are and he was kind of sloshed” I would get it, but instead they act like it was a complete accident and he didn’t do anything wrong. Meanwhile, Kanye West shoves a pap and he is vilified and almost charged with a felony. Almost positive Cameron Diaz almost got slapped with a criminal charge too back in the day. White male privilege. If someone like Anthony Mackie had done this, there would have been an outcry. It’s not so much Sparkles, but the blatant white male privilege in this case that was astounding.

  2. Haley says:

remember when everyone thought he would have such an awesome career after twilight? now it looks like twilight might’ve been the highlight of it.

    • Lou says:

Having read some of the foreign print interviews he’s done for this campaign, I think he makes it pretty clear he’s not interested in being a movie star. Which as a fan I find very disappointing.

      • PunkyMomma says:

@Lou. I agree. I found his tone downright negative, too. The interviews he gave to both German and Spanish press come off as cocky, arrogant and snobby. The undertone of disdain he evidences for fandom is a slap in the face to those fans who made him a multi-millionaire. JMHO. He can go crawl back up into the hollow log he emerged from ASAP.

      • pippa says:

        @punkymomma

We do have to realize that these are print interviews and translated from English to Spanish/German and back to English. Of course there is going to be plenty lost in translation starting from the tone of the interview. So if it sounds a bit harsh/cocky/snobbish here, I can bet that it would have come out completely diff in a video interview. Both the interviewers had to say one thing though – that he was very pleasant. That has to count for something right?

Regards to his career – yeah he likes obscure movies – he may shed some fans because his movies end up being inaccessible to the majority of the crowd. That’s how he likes it. He obviously doesn’t want to be the next big movie star. His prerogative. So why the need to keep saying he is not happening? As long as he finds a way to make these movies regardless of whether a few on this board saw it, he is successful.

    • Amory says:

Hate that I have to defend this guy, but I think it’s too soon to tell. He has several projects in pre-production and it seems like he’ll be busy for the next few years at least.

When I think of the up and down careers of so many stars, it seems premature to count this one out.

      • Original A says:

Haven’t those projects been lined up
for over a year though? I’m kind of wondering if this is a bit of a Blake Lively-esque thing, where his team prematurely announces he’s attached to films that never actually materialize. Not to mention, I don’t think he was in Toronto very long and they kept filming without him for weeks until the production moved to Los Angeles…so his role in this movie must be pretty small. I think he has more PR hustle than people realize.

      • Amory says:

OriginalA: Maybe that’s true, but Rover is coming out soon and this film is obviously in full production. At least one of the pre-production films has Naomi Watts and James Franco also attached, and another has Carey Mulligan attached. I guess they could both fall through, along with the third, but it does seem a bit more than PR hype.

Frankly, I don’t see much in this guy myself, I was objecting to the “his career is dead” statement.

      • TinyPixie says:

Hold On To Me is not happening and James Franco is not attached to Queen of the Desert (that was a rumor). That movie, along with Mission Blacklist, were announced ages ago and nothing has happened with either.

Both those movies sound horrendous though, so maybe it’s a blessing. Pattinson playing some kind of American intelligence expert hunting down Saddam, directed by some no name Swede has disaster written all over it. And Lawrence of a Arabia? Pssh – that’s a laugh.

His stans, who constantly rag on KStew’s career, don’t seem to understand that she has just as many indies on her IMDB as Pattinson does and I don’t think any of them are going to do anything for each of their careers.

      • Haley says:

but he’s been “up and coming” for years and never hit it big with anything other than twilight. nobody other than twihards really care about him anymore. he missed his opportunity.

      • Original A says:

I don’t think his career is dead either, but I do think there is some Lively-esque PR hustle. I am embarrassingly kind of a Franco Stan, and he’s rumored but not officially attached and I read a recent interview with Naomi where she made it sound like that film was dicey…That’s the kind of thing that made me raise an eyebrow, in addition to the time factor. Time will tell how he pans out.

      • Another Ann says:

Its definitely too soon to tell. He needs time to put Twilight behind him and be seen in a number of post Twilight roles that are nothing like Edward Cullen. It’s a tough road for someone so identified with a specific character. Only time will tell if he can do it. It’s crazy to think you could get any legitimate read on it less than a year after the last Twilight movie came out. And before any of his post Twilight movies have come out.

Few actors have sure fire careers while in their twenties. Most actors don’t solidify and hit their prime until their thirties. And many, many young actors have numerous films, including a number with poor box office results, on their resume before their careers are firmly established.

I don’t have a clue what kind of career he will end up with. But I’m not biased enough to insist his career is either dead or will be awesome. Let’s see how it unfolds, shall we?

      • TinyPixie says:

Hasn’t he had a number of non-Twilight movies come out already over the years? All of them bad performances in movies that never really clicked with audiences. How long must we wait before we can decide he’s a dud?

I don’t think it was Twilight holding him back. If he were legitimately talented, I think it should be evident by now.

Seriously, how many chances does one actor need?

PS – same for Kstew (lest anybody think I’m a Kristen stan). If she had any talent, she could have parlayed that into – Jennifer Lawrence’s career.

They’ve had their moment and it’s passed.

    • Jenn says:

Rob is on his way to an awesome career. It just takes time and he likes to choose his roles that mean something to him. Leo, Clooney, Pitt had to start somewhere also. Rob is a good guy, give him time. I wish him the best and try my best not to read the haters on here bashing him for no reason other than he is not with their princess any longer.

      • TinyPixie says:

We’ve been waiting for his career to start for years now but it never actually happens.

      • Lark says:

        @TinyPixie
This is the default mode of the Sparkle stans. Anytime you offer even the mildest criticism, you are accused of being a Sulky stan. IA with you about his career.

      • St says:

Only difference is that Leo, Clooney, Pitt can act. And always could. Pattinson can’t. That’s why his career went to dumpster and he can only score roles in low budget movies that will probably go straight to DVD or will bomb in limited release. Like that Cosmopolis movie.

  3. Original A says:

Hollywood Life is the worst and I never believe them, but he definitely shoved that guy. As far as the ad, not my favorite. I wonder why they are rolling it out like this? I don’t recall them doing it this way for Natalie or JenLaw, who are bigger stars.

  4. blue marie says:

the Dior campaign, boooo.. the shove to the security guard, booo, d-ck move man.

but, he looks good in that suit, damn.

  5. Lou says:

This isn’t a teaser from Dior. Dior sent beauty and fashion eds a view finder with pics from the campaign. A German fashion blog created this teaser themselves from said view finder. It’s not an official Dior teaser, sigh. Also, the ad hasn’t been released yet, so I don’t understand how it could be deemed a fail.

    • Rabia says:

Oh, I get it now. That blog created this teaser using the viewmaster that Dior sent them. Makes sense.

I think Dior have gotten a lot of mileage out of the teasers they’ve released so far, and they’ve got to be happy about that.

  6. Rabia says:

I like the Dior teaser. The viewmaster thingy is fun and different. It seems like Dior have really put a lot of money and effort behind this campaign. We haven’t even seen the ad yet.

  7. Lou says:

He looks gorgeous in his suit though.

  8. TinyPixie says:

He grabbed the security guy’s face and had a big smile while doing it. Weird and stupid.

He shouldn’t have grabbed anybody and if he had, putting your entire hand on somebody’s face is really crossing a line. Shove somebody’s shoulder and chest if you feel threatened to push them away but who sticks their hand in somebody’s face?

This Dior campaign is such a massive flop. So boring, so trite, so tired. And the strange roll out? All the fall magazine issues are out and these ads are nowhere? No billboards, no nothing?

Michelle Williams ads for LV were released in one shot and I see they’ve had more buzz and interest than these boring shots. Does anybody care about these ads other than Sparkle stans?

It’s hilarious how quickly the Twilight cast has fallen into irrelevancy.

  9. Jennifer12 says:

I would hate to have unnamed sources talking for me and people to take it seriously. The supershort hair makes him look like an old fashioned boxer; something broken and handsome at the same time.

    • Hannah says:

I agree. Grabbing that security guys face was a douchebag move and he should be called out like everyone else who behaves like this. I can’t believe the excuses that are made for him when people trash kstew and Kanye for their behaviour.

  10. TinyPixie says:

Poor David Cronenberg hasn’t made a good movie since A History of Violence.

  11. aquarius64 says:

I thought this was low rent.

  12. mia girl says:

Cronnenberg and I have something in common… I too prefer Pattinson cleaned up and in a suit.

As far as the campaign I’m still on the fence whether it will actually be good or not in the end… but I’m pretty sure a James Francoesque person at that German mag put together this video using promo shots. It doesn’t look like an official release from Dior.

  13. Shy says:

    Douche.

Please stop comparing this jerk to the super talented and super charismatic James Dean. This doormat wishes he could have an ounce of talent that James had.

    • Jenn says:

James Dean wasn’t around long enough to have talent. What did he make..two movies and you could hardly understand his speech.

      • TinyPixie says:

James Dean made 3 movies, each one a film classic. He is also the only actor to have two posthumous Oscar nominations – one for East of Eden and one for Giant.

It’s no fluke that he is considered one of the greatest and influential actors, over 50 years after his death.

Rpatz will be a footnote in history. Comparing him to James Dean is bonkers.

      • Lark says:

Oh hell no. You did not just insult James Dean. The man made three iconic films and is remembered for a reason.

      • Janet says:

Of all the stupid comments… have you even seen a film Dean starred in? He may have only made three movies, but he was a straight-up genius.

      • The Original Mia says:

Say what? Are you really throwing shade at James Dean in defense of Sparkles? Really?

Ah…the young. Forgive them for they know not what they speak of.

      • judysee says:

I agree with Jenn in that I think that James Dean’s rep is quite overblown. The three movies, although quite groundbreaking at the time, seem schmaltzy and clichéd now. I think Rock Hudson was more impressive in Giant than Dean. There were parts of Giant where his acting was cringeworthy, I’m thinking of the scene where he takes steps to mark off his property and the other when he is drunk in the bar. I also did not think he was very good in East of Eden. His acting seemed forced and affected. In my opinion his overacting in Rebel is even more embarrassing than Giant. I think the shock of his death and the sadness over what “might have been” garnered him the Oscar noms. There are many other actors I would consider giving the label of genius rather than Dean. I think he is overrated. That being said, I think Pattinson has yet to turn in a great performance.

  14. Leah says:

Enough with Twilight and this subpar actor and personality.

    • MegG says:

Judysee- I disagree that Rock Hudson was better. His greatest performance was convincing the general public he was straight for years! James Dean was far better in Giant.

  15. Skins says:

The luckiest guy in Hollywood. If he didn’t have a british accent he would just be another actor

    • ORLY says:

… Except that he speaks with a non “British” accent in all those films.

      • mia girl says:

        Oh ORLY… you are sublime.

      • Olivia says:

His fans wouldn’t know about his films since many of them barely make any money. His fans spend their money stalking him around film sets and buying magazines for the pretty pics and the words he is saying just to them! His super Robsessed fans are more interested in the fantasy Rob. And the fantasy Rob has a British accent, even in print interviews!

      • ORLY says:

So what you’re saying, Olivia is that his fans keep him employed by not attending his movies and just drooling over his pretty pics and his “British” accent? How exactly does that work?

      • TinyPixie says:

He doesn’t have enough fans on his own to make a film a hit.

The people who would normally go and see the other films he’s been making, won’t go and see anything starring the actor from that dreck. He wants to make arty films that attract intelligent people and his presence in the movie gives the impression it’s something dumbed down. Also, the films he’s made haven’t been compelling enough to the target market to ensure they buy a ticket spite of the Twilight connection.

      • ORLY says:

I’m not even sure what this discussion is about anymore. I responded to Skins who implied that Pattinson’s accent gets him the jobs, except that he rarely uses his English accent in his movies. It makes no sense.
Now we’re on to another issue about his fans. I don’t know much about them but Olivia seems to think they have very little money, which they spend on everything but his movies. I fail to see what that has to do with him being employed because of an accent he never uses.

      • Chelsea says:

Whats a non british accent? Is that a nice way of saying he attempts a north american accent but cant quite hack it?

    • ORLY says:

Well, since Great Britain is made up of more than one country and therefore has no specific accent, that’s what I was intimating at.
I’m not here to defend Robert Pattinson. I’m merely contributing to the conversation and asking for clarification where comments make no sense.
Your opinion on whether or not he pulls off an American accent is just an opinion. Personally, I didn’t know he was English until I heard him being interviewed.

  16. kim says:

    Too artsy =fake ahole
This whole camp is pretty bad. I blame dior ppl. Sad.

  17. Reece says:

I still just don’t get what this campaign is going for…??? What is the idea, the theme behind the visuals here?

Damn that man looks good in a suit! It’s almost criminal when he’s not.

  18. Corrie says:

I actually like the campaign. Honestly, if they made this look super high end DIOR DIOR… I think it wouldve made Rob look like he was faking it – dressing up like Jude but he’s not that guy. This looks like Rob’s version of Dior. I embrace that better than the super rich riveria Dior that I’d thought we’d get from their previous campaigns. I think everyone needs to open their mind and creative eye. There was no copy and paste here. You can’t shove a guy who goes from hobo to high end inside a fake made up snotty campaign. But you can use Nan Goldin for her irreverent, edgy and classic Dior look. Loving it. You’re always fair to Rob.

  19. mary simon says:

This guy is NOTHING without his hair. He needs big hair!!!

  20. Leah says:

The campaign is shot by Nan Goldin who is an amazing artist and should never be insulted with being compared to James Franco. Look her up she has been shooting the underground since the 80s. She sort of pioneered a certain edgy photo document style.
Obviously this is her pay day, cant say i blame her for cashing in after all those years, although i dont like this commercial at all.

  21. lincolngirl says:

Robert is a very talented actor and has a long career ahead of him. Why do you even bother to post negative things about him if you dislike him so much? The Dior campaign looks amazing, and Nan Goldin and Garvis are amazing artists, if you can’t see it, the problem is you. Rob is constantly swarmed by paps, most of whom yell really shitty things at him, I wonder how long anyone could take that kind of abuse before we too shoved someone? Also, Hollywood Life is the biggest bullshit gossip rag out there, they have ZERO sources.

    • another nina says:

Robert has the funniest stans ever – this I give him.

    • blueclouds says:

Rob says he doesn’t want to be an actor forever; people who want him to disappear might be pleased to hear that, Lol. What I don’t understand is I see the same posters who dislike him so much saying the same things over and over again in every article about him. It’s getting boring now.

And HollywoodLies? Well, people believe what they want to believe.

    • Tig says:

I agree with you- I like the photos.. I don’t get the timing of the releases. It will be interesting to see the pics released in Sept.

And the usual boo-birds with the usual rants- “career over, etc”. I was shocked not to see them on the thread regarding how Liam Helmsworth is “ovah” at the ripe old age of 23.

  22. Daisy Mae says:

    RPatz is a tool bag

  23. another nina says:

Oh, I know where they took that picture — it’s 51st and Park ave in NYC. I used to be able to see that roof-top out of the conference room at our former office. They film there something all the time – I remember having a dinner and watching how they filmed there The Adjustment Bureau with Matt Damon…

  24. nancypants says:

What is going on with that frontal pic?
It’s the one about 5 down.

Either he has a major infection of a tooth or The Mumps, or a huge chunk of tobacco or SOMETHING in his mouth.

Whatever it is it’s not a good look.

Maybe he had just taken a big bite of an apple?

I once cracked a tooth and didn’t even know it until about two days later when I woke up in serious pain and half my face was swollen.

    Maybe?

    • Jenn says:

Tons of pictures on RPLIFE of Rob walking eating a snack that you can see in his hand is why his jaw looks like that.

  25. Gmarchetti says:

Kept waiting to hear a chainsaw during the pictures swap. Or John Larroquette’s introduction…

  26. Lark says:

He needs longer hair. The ad is blah. That said the final product might be much better.

  27. Janet says:

If he’s smart he’ll quit while he’s ahead. I don’t think he has much of a career in Hollywood ahead of him. He’s not that good an actor and has made it this far almost solely on his looks. Those are already starting to fade and he’s got nothing else to fall back on. I like the guy but I think if he stays in Hollywood it’s going to be all downhill for him from here on out. He’s made enough money to be set for the rest of his life so he ought to go back to England and do something like music that he really loves.

  28. l says:

lmao. the comments on this board. be any more obvious?

  29. blueclouds says:

Wow, I can’t imagine wasting my time on someone I dislike to know so much about him. Like I know Bieber exists but skip all articles about him. Save myself a lot of time and headache.

  30. mimi says:

His new interviews for the Dior promotion are very revealing. He talks about finally embracing his handsome looks because he is very keen on becoming a “brand” now. That’s a far cry from only a year ago when all he wanted was to become a good enough actor with a long, steady career in film, whether in front of the camera or behind it quietly writing scripts or producing.

He always downplayed and actually tried to minimize his handsome features in the past. I know people change their minds all the time, especially young ones Robert’s age. But now he wants to cash in on his good looks by defining his brand more on his handsomeness than his acting talents? This Dior campaign backs up his claims and I’m not sure I like this new direction he’s heading towards.

As someone who has followed his career since Twilight, I wish him the best and hope his acting career is not overshadowed by his decision to pose provocatively in artsy designer fragrance ads in an effort to brand himself in Hollywood. I think he has too much talent to willingly put so much emphasis on his good looks at this pivotal point in his career. Leave that tactic to those lacking real talent who have nothing else to fall back on.

  31. Russian girl says:

+ 1000!We do have to realize that these are print interviews and translated from English to Spanish/German and back to English.
