Charlie Hunnam, Dakota Johnson cast as Christian & Anastasia in ’50 Shades’

Turns out that those weird reports two weeks ago were dead right. Charlie Hunnam has been cast as master spanker, lip-biting fetishist and billionaire Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. And Dakota Johnson has been cast as Anastasia Steele. Dakota’s casting is kind of disappointing me – I know some of you liked that terrible Ben & Kate show and thought she was good in it, but really… I disagree. Strongly. As for Charlie… I think this will actually help his career. For real.

E.L. James has found her Anastasia and Christian! After a tireless search and constant casting rumors, Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam have been confirmed to play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the much-anticipated film adaptation of E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey.

“Good moaning all. Hold on to your hats…” the author wrote Monday, Sept. 2. “I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.”

“So… Christian…” she then teased. “The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.”

A source tells Us Weekly the 23-year-old actress — daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson — is ecstatic about the new role.

“She had several meetings with the producers and with E.L. James. They loved her for the role,” an insider reveals to Us. “She’s been in New York filming with Cymbeline with Ethan Hawke, and just wrapped Need For Speed with Aaron Paul. She was thrilled to be in the running and is very excited for the role.”

Though the relationship of Anastasia and billionaire Christian Grey is sexually charged, there is one thing Johnson probably won’t be revealing on the big screen. “She has a tattoo on her arm,” the source adds. “They are likely going to have to cover it up.”

Johnson has starred in the FOX TV series Ben and Kate, and has appeared in films like The Five-Year Engagement and 21 Jump Street. Hunnam, 33, is most known for his work in Sons of Anarchy from 2008 to 2013.

[From Us Weekly]

Does anyone think it’s weird that it’s E.L. James who gets to announce these casting decisions? I guess she’s very, very involved in the film adaptation and the producers want her fans to know how involved she is. Anyway… the only bad news here is that someone needs to check on Ian Somerhalder. That poor boy. He wanted this so badly.

Dakota looks like Evan Rachel Wood, right?

    There seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding this movie. Not sure if Charlie should have taken this role.

    • Jenn says:

      WTF was James thinking. This guy is like my kid brother’s nasty little friend always in the way. He doesn’t have the steely stare, the handsome, chisled features, no sex appeal whatsoever. She looks virginal enough but he is all wrong. Glad I’m not going to see it.

      • Jennifer says:

        In the first book “Fifty Shades of Grey” Ana describes Christian as follows:

        “young- and attractive, very attractive. He’s tall, dressed in a fine gray suit, white shirt, and black tie with unruly dark-copper-colored hair and intense, bright gray eyes that regard me shrewdly.”

        “If this guy is over thirty then I’m a monkey’s uncle.”

        “I wonder if it reflects the personality of the Adonis who sinks gracefully into one of the white leather chairs opposite me.”

        “He smiles, revealing perfect white teeth. I stop breathing. He really is beautiful. No one should be this good-looking.”

        Does this description reflect the actor that has been cast as Christian? I don’t think so.

      • Gretchen says:

        Do these descriptions reflect good writing? I don’t think so.

        /end snark/

      • Z says:

        Exactly what I was trying to point out in my comment below. He is not appealing at all. Like the others aid this is not CG

      • Andrew says:

        Um just watch porn if you want a man to fit that description lol. I personally couldn’t care less about fifty shades, but I couldn’t pass up that comment haha 😛

      • Stef Leppard says:

        He looks pretty good in Pacific Rim, all clean shaven. Much better without the flesh beard.

    • bo-ho13 says:

      just as I was reading this…..the casting is meh….I agree with the article

  2. rainy17 says:

    First thing I thought. Why is the author announcing casting decisions?

    • Zigggy says:

      Yes- very unusual. I couldn’t get through the first book because Anastasia’s “inner goddess” voice made me want to wretch (‘oh my!’), so I have no interest in the movie.

      • Badirene says:

        I tried to read the books, but kept reading “oh my” and hearing it in George Takei’s voice. Cracked up laughing every time.

      • Hautie says:

        “I tried to read the books, but kept reading “oh my” and hearing it in George Takei’s voice. Cracked up laughing every time.”
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        OMG. I do that too.
        Anything I see “oh my” in print. I automatically hear it (in my head) as that Takei voice. Which really how can you not… if you have ever heard him do it. It is burned into my memory.
        Now with that being said, I never read this Mommy p0rn book. But if it requires Charlie to be naked. I will be there!
        It is hard to see it in still pictures of him. But when you see him in motion on film. You can see all that swagger. And that is where it matters.
      • Sixer says:
        These fanfic authors that get published all seem to be control freaks. It’s why we get the worst of their dialogue transported directly into the films. Stephanie – I’m looking at you.
        It’s a shame they don’t cede a bit of control to editors with the books, too. They’re all missing red pens and tracked changes.
      • Mia 4S says:
        The only thing that could make this garbage worthwhile; I give you George Takei reading 50 shades 🙂 :
        http://trekmovie.com/2012/12/20/video-of-the-day-george-takei-reads-from-fifty-shades-of-grey/
      • juststeph says:
        Great video!
      • SamiHami says:
        For me it was when Anastasia was “disorientated.” That was the final straw. Seriously, did anyone even try to edit these books before they went to press? There are sooooo many grammatical errors that it’s just painful to read. I couldn’t make it halfway through the first one.
    • Amy says:
      Actually, this (below) is my favorite “Fifty Shades” reader, and as close as I ever planned to get to this mess – until you pointed me to George Takei, for which I thank you.
  3. Aura says:
    I got such a fright there- I thought it was Dakota FANNING for a hot minite
    • Kat says:
      Yes, my thoughts exactly! The next thought that immediately popped into my head was, ‘NO!’
    • Rhea says:
      LOL. Me too. I saw this news earlier on another site and thought , “DAKOTA??!!” then I saw the last name was “Johnson”. Phew….
    • Rachel says:
      I know I tried to look up at my husband through my eyelashes like Anastasia did and he just thought I had something in my eye! Didn’t like the books don’t have high hopes for the movie but I like Charlie so we shall see!
    • Abby says:
      ditto! Super bad move for fanning!
    • lucy2 says:
      I did the same thing! I thought Fanning and then NOOOOO!!
  4. Spooks says:
    I don’t know her, but Charlie should have known better.
    • Bubbles says:
      What are the chances that this mess actually turns into a decent movie?
      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:
        SLIM-this ain’t ‘Secretary’.
        Unless Sam Taylor-Wood completely guts the book/script into something she can work with.
        This movie will either sink her career or enhance it-if she pulls it off.
      • misstressofsylar says:
        I feel personally betrayed. I really thought he was above this. Why Charlie why?!
      • Bodhi says:
        Nonexistent
      • hannah says:
        What do you think , it’s a badly written fanfic based on Twilight.
      • LAK says:
        Charlie made his name with QUEER AS FOLK UK http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e6/QAF1.jpg [this is him on the right], so this should be right up his alley, excuse the pun.
      • lisa says:
        it is sounding more and more like a tv movie, not something someone plunks down money for
      • Applapoom says:
        I love Charlie Hunnam, he is so hot which does not necessarily translate into pictures. First saw him in Nicholas Nickleby and I thought whoa who is this? However, he is more the rugged good looking surfer guy (I know he is english) rather than pretty chiselled intense billionaire man of mystery. This role is also beneath him. Argh, why did he sign up to it? Probably will watch it despite my objections. Ha ha
    • Lex says:
      I don’t know who that guy is but he looks way too much like Spencer Pratt for my liking!
      • Ashling says:
        OMG. He does look like Spencer. Is this why I always mildly disliked him and have no interest in watching SOA?
      • Maria says:
        Totally!!! He looks like Spencer Pratt!!! Also, I don’t get the Christian Grey vibe from him at all… Disappointed with the casting…
  5. Frida_K says:
    Well, they both have small, close-set eyes. That’s something, I reckon.
    He looks like what would occur if Brad Pitt and the guy from Sister Wives (Cody? Brody? Doh’dy?) had a love child together.
    Meh.
    • Mima says:
      I love that show sister wives. I don’t particularly like and of the cast I’m just so amazed the way they make it work …. And I wonder what the fk do the 4 of them see in Cody
  6. Lamb says:
    No, Charlie! You are too good for this pile of garbage! Once he plays Christian Grey, he will always be Christian Grey. Just like Rob Pattinson will always be Sparkles. I’m disappointed in him.
    • Wrachul says:
      You know, I hadn’t thought of it that way, and unfortunately I think you are right. Don’t get me wrong.. I think he will do the best with what he’s given. I had only seen him on SOA but recently watched him on Undeclared. I think he’s pretty good actor from what I’ve seen. This may help his career in some ways but I wanted better for him. 🙁
  7. Green Is Good says:
    And he just killed his career stone dead. She’s a nobody and has no career to kill.
    I can’t believe this POS book is being made into a POS movie.
  8. Z says:
    Christian Grey was described in the book as a “beautiful man” the actor does not fit the role. They f*cking Up already. I do not believe the movie will be successful as Hollywood hope for.
    • Katie says:
      Charlie is a beautiful man! Is a great choice!
    • Bridget says:
      He’s not good in still photos, but incredibly hot on film. Walking sex.
      • Diana says:
        Co-signed, times a million. When he shaves and cuts his hair, he’s to-die-for!
      • Anon says:
        This times a million! He is a beautiful, beautiful man in motion and has the greatest snarky face ever. Plus, his sex scenes are always super hot!
        Although I wonder if he can give up his Sons of Anarchy ‘walk’ for this film.
    • Abby says:
      Please go rent Abandon. He looks like a homeless man right now but he’s SO FREAKING HOT when he’s not scruffy.
  9. Annie says:
    I remember when Stephenie Meyer announced Kristen and then Robert on her official site…
    It’s not new that authors break the news to the crazy fans, just so they don’t get mad and think “well, if she approves, then it’s ok”, but it never works that way. Fans still throw fits and I just can’t stand how obsessed these women were with Matt Bomer. The guy probably didn’t want the role, what with caring about his future and all…
    The fans will get over it and then be all over Charlie just like the Twilight fans cane around and adored Robert.
    • Janet says:
      The difference is every Twihard identified with KStew because they wanted to be Bella. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to be that pathetic, masochistic creature in 50 Shades.
      • Lex says:
        Are you trying to say Bella was some admirable character? A pathetic mess more like who had to wait around and live her life according to the men around her!
        Bella appealed (for whatever sad reasons)to young girls. This Anastasia character is geared towards older women – it’s dangerous and ‘exciting’
      • Janet says:
        No, Lex, I am not trying to say Bella was some admirable character. She was the antithesis of a role model IMO. She had no goals, no ambition, no ideals, no character, no nothing. She wasn’t even a very nice person. But she got the happy-ever-after marriage that every teenage girl and frustrated housewife dreams about, and that’s why they relate to her. I don’t know of any woman off the top of my head who gets their jollies out of being tied up and beaten. That’s not dangerous and exciting, it’s sick.
    • lisa says:
      “what with caring about his future and all”
      oh that made me LOL thank you annie
  10. bettyrose says:
    Oh, good, I was hoping we could discuss this. I really don’t want to see this film, so I’ll wait for a CB review & discussion to find out whether the Charlie scenes are worthy of enduring the plot. Maybe I can just get footage of any worthwhile Charlie moments?
  11. MrsBPitt says:
    I couldn’t even finish the book…it was terrible! So, don’t care who is starring…I’m sure the movie will be a piece of crap!
    • Z says:
      I agree the book was crappy and sorry I ever read it. I see they doing the same with the movie and that is making garbage into garbage. The writing was just horrible. Some things should not be made into a movie and Hollywood do not understand that.
      • Kat says:
        +10000 this book shouldn’t become a movie, actually, this books shouldn’t be a best seller, i really wish i could forget about it…
  12. Lilo says:
    Glad it’s not Alexis Bledel. Won’t watch it anyways, the books were already too bad ^^.
  13. Lark says:
    Charlie actually makes sense in a twisted way. He has two more seasons of SOA, he has Del Toro’s Crimson Peak, and he has a film with Christoph Waltz and Cate Blanchette. He has a good career going and even if this flops badly, it won’t hurt him too bad.
    He’s super masculine and has a heavily male fan base and most of his films have him as a bad ass, so it’s not like this is going to typecast him as a swoony, romantic guy. He may lose some of this male fan base, but he’s going to gain a significant female fan base by doing this role. And as crappy as these books are, the fact that they spent this much time and Sam Taylor Wood is involved makes me think they will make some money at the very least.
    • mom2two says:
      I am really hoping they gutted the book to make a decent screenplay. Honestly, I agree, I don’t think Charlie will lose much doing this movie. He’s got at least 2 more seasons of SoA (Sutter discussed going 7 seasons), possibly a Pacific Rim sequel, Crimson Peak, and the aforementioned movie with Cate Blanchett.
      50 Shades is going to be modestly budgeted anyway, so if it does tank, it’s not going to be as bad as Lone Ranger, After Earth or White House Down.
      I think Charlie is a looker and he can act. They were lucky to get him. I have not seen Dakota Johnson in anything but she’s a relative newcomer and has parents in the industry, so if the movie does tank, I don’t think it hurts her career too much either.
    • Diana says:
      I didn’t think of it this way, but it makes sense the way you break it down.
      It just surprises me, that he took the role. He can actually act and seems to be angling for a serious career.
  14. Jennifer12 says:
    Remember when Elizabeth Berkley was so proud to be in “Showgirls”? It kind of killed her career. Not sure how smart this is of Dakota.
    • cs says:
      Elisabeth Berkley was known from that popular kids show.. No one knows Dakota other than she’s Don Johnson/ Melanie Griffiths daughter. So, it will either help her career or she will eternally be known as the daughter of Don Johnson/Melanie Griffith. So, she’s in a win-win situation.
      On the other hand, I’m not sure about Charlie. This could hurt his career, if it flops..
    • Bridget says:
      Interesting point. That movie was not only TERRIBLE but she was truly awful. I think part of the problem was that she had no resume putside of SBTB and Showgirls, and that movie really was so spectacularly awful that there really was no coming back from it. Hunnam at least has a strong CV, and we’ve already seen a lot of him.
      • bettyrose says:
        Oh gawd, so awful. I couldn’t stand seeing Charlie in something like that. I’d never appreciate him the same way again. I suppose abstaining from this film is the only way to go. 🙁
  15. honey says:
    everyone would have been better than Minka Kelly
  16. Janet says:
    I got through ten pages of the book before I threw it into the round file. I won’t even watch the movie on cable.
  17. grabbyhands says:
    Too bad about his career. And just as it was really going to have a chance to really take off on the big screen too.
    Maybe he’ll come to his senses and drop out before it’s too late. Otherwise, no one is going to take him seriously after this.
  18. Belle Epoch says:
    Refuse to read the books. But I would never have cast this guy. How will audiences respond to seeing a pregnant woman whipped?
  19. lisa2 says:
    I think it would have been better to cast unknowns in the film. Charlie is still pretty much a TV actor with some film credits. not sure about her. But I wonder if Pacific Rim had blown up domestically if he would have taken this. I mean he is not really identified as a suave kind of guy. His roles that I have seen look more gritty.
    I think this is one of those cheesy books that will typecast an actor. As someone said.. Rob P is forever that Twilight mess. It is better if you are already established and do this than someone building a career.
    the Casting decisions of late have been WTF.. Ben as Batman now this.
  20. RachelDunn says:
    this will make or break Charlie’s career. i love him, but i will not watch this.
  21. Dommy Dearest says:
    As long as they cast Charlie as Green Arrow later on down the road I’m down. Very down. I haven’t read the book but I do enjoy a bit of kink. And I’m for watching Charlie get all kinky while I imagine myself in there instead of the girl. >_> HA!
  22. Mrs. Darcy says:
    Eh, he sounds like a good actor and all but not having read the book (I just can’t, the few sentences I have seen/heard just make me laugh), the only thing that would have got my butt into a movie seat would have been two insanely hot, talented leads. This ain’t Shakespeare, I think Sam Taylor Wood can’t possibly get anything other than a turkey out of this. Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith’s daughter, seriously? Was Rumer Willis not available? Pretty underwhelming after all of the ridiculous hype, something tells me they didn’t have much actual talent to choose from, the Ryan Gosling rumours were a joke surely?
  23. Bodhi says:
    I really hope these movies will be better than the books, but they are going to be terrible (which is a step up from the books) no matter who directs or is cast. Ana is more stupid & less self-aware than Bella Swan & Christian is just a horrible excuse for a person.
    Oh well, they will be something to hate watch
  24. Mia 4S says:
    So I guess because Pacific Rim wasn’t a huge breakout he decided to try a shortcut to movie star? This is a typecasting nightmare, I just don’t think it’s going to work out the way he is probably hoping. Plus he’s stuck doing mommy porn for a couple of years! I really thought he was better than this.
    As for her, well reports are portraying her as fame hungry and willing to do anything. Ha! Well the gossip should be good. She also went to drug rehab at 17, so I hope she is healthy. We will see.
  25. Gilmore says:
    I trusted you, Charlie! We were lovers and I had high hopes!
  26. the other Kate says:
    this book is shitty, and I don’t expect movie can be much better, but I really can imagine him as Christian Grey, for me it works
    although when I first looked at the photo and didn’t read the title, I thought it was Travis Fimmel from “Vikings”
    • Bodhi says:
      That man is DEAD SEXY. *fans self*
      • the other Kate says:
        Travis? Oh, yes, he is – but for me, only when he plays Ragnar. I’ve seen some interwievs with him and I always have a feeling, that he is totally on drugs.
      • Bodhi says:
        Thats the only thing I’ve seen him in. My husband was all “OO Vikings!” & I was in as soon as I saw those eyes.
    • phillkatt says:
      You know, I must be the only female in the country over 18 who hasn’t read the books, and I have no desire to see the movie(s), either.
  27. Lila says:
    I don’t know anything about Charlie, but WHY didn’t they hire Ian Somerhalder?! He’s the bigger star (as far as I know–I’ve never heard of Charlie before), he’s gorgeous, and he wanted the part. This casting doesn’t make sense to me.
    • Janet says:
      Somerhalder WANTED the part?! Why, for God’s sake?? He can do better than that!
    • Anname says:
      Ian was never even in the running, according to Bret Easton Ellis’s conversations with EL James. BEE was tweeting about it today.
      • mom2two says:
        In the summer of 2012 when BEE was begging to be the screenwriter for this movie, Somerholder kept tweeting him and sure as heck sounded like he wanted the part.
      • Anname says:
        Yes, BEE and Ian both wanted in this movie. BEE says today that Ian never was in the running, whatever that means. And obviously BEE isn’t involved. Wonder what ever happened with Gus VanZant and his demo reel with Alex Pettyfur(ew)?
    • pretty says:
      Are youv kiddin me? Ian is bigger star than Charlie? hahahaha Pacific Rim has grossed over 400 million worldwide. And His TV show Sons of Anarchy sounds better than freaking The Vampire Diaries. Not to mention, Ian is SHORT!!!!
    • Axis2ClusterB says:
      Charlie definitely has more going on right now.
    • MissMoody says:
      I heard they were looking for a higher calibre of actor for the part and apparently the hotness that is Damon Salvatore didn’t fit the bill. I believe it was Lainey who claimed that the author was dead set against Smolderholder because Smutty Twilight fan fiction > TVD. Obviously the woman is nuts
  28. Mimi says:
    WTF is Jax Teller thinking? Career suicide imo…
  29. Tiffany27 says:
    Opie would not approve of this Jax.
  30. Josie says:
    Pffff so disappointed.. I hope his acting and personality are better suited for the role because his looks sure aren’t.
  31. Narsa says:
    I can deal with Charlie but this will be like watching a mix between spencer Pratt , brad Pitt & don Johnson having sex WTF !!! She looks to much like her dad & that f@#cking forehead they got to do something about that keep it covered with bangs ???!!! It’s not going to make a difference don Johnson is doing fifty shades of grey , Miami vice & sons of anarchy with a s&m twist how could they do this to Charlie ??
  32. Abby says:
    Ughhhh I had no interest in this movie… but Hunnam all cleaned up is YUMMY. If you forgot, go watch Abandon. 🙂
    sigh. I really don’t want to see this on principle against badly written fanfiction. But charlie!
  33. MollyB says:
    I liked Ben and Kate and I thought Johnson was good in it but she had a very kind of dorky, awkward, funny style about her. I haven’t read the books but it doesn’t seem to me that her style fits that particular character.
  34. lisa says:
    that’s a budget cast for such a well known property
  35. Bridget says:
    She’s pretty… but is Exhibit #1 of how smoking ages a person. She’s in her early 20s but looks a lot older, which is what happens when you start smoking in your early teens (anyone remember the photo of Melanie lighting up a smoke with her then 14/15 year old daughter?).
  36. Narsa says:
    Somebody needs to slap fifty shades of sh!t out of the author & casting director NOW !!!!!
  37. moon says:
    Charlie looks really, really good without that beard. I’m liking the casting. As for Dakota, I found her kinda flat and boring in 21 Jump Street. She’s a bit too knowing and self possessed for Anastasia, but she looks the role, so….
  38. loie says:
    I think that was the worst book I have ever tried to read. Terrible writing. I’ll never watch the movie.
    I can’t believe the book was a bestseller. Ugh.
    • Happy21 says:
      Um ya…I laughed and laughed at the terrible writing and then found a website where some university student broke it down into how crappy it truly was. I got through 3 chapters while all my friends are exploding about how this is the best stuff they’ve ever read. Needless to say, I’m the real reader out of all of them which is why I’m the only one who thought it shit.
  39. Melymori says:
    I thought it was hilarious that she announced that Dakota “had agreed” as IF they had to beg her….
  40. Tig says:
    He makes it work on SOA, but he is so not Christian Grey. Oh well, when the first trailer hits in early 2014, it’ll be interesting.
  41. Claudia says:
    Gross. Hunnam, I thought you were better than that :(.
  42. A~ says:
    I can’t imagine how this movie will help anyone’s career. Hackneyed book, horribly written. It will be a soft-core porno, and these two will forever be “those kids from that soft-core porno.”
  43. Marty says:
    I can’t talk about this. It’s still too soon. *sobs miserably in the corner*
  44. Miss M says:
    I thought my man was smart…
  45. lucy2 says:
    I’ve avoided the books like the plague, and I think this could be very bad for Charlie.
    Ben & Kate was kind of cute, but Dakota wasn’t much of a standout in it for me. What a bummer to go from working with the brilliant Aaron Paul to…this.
  46. henderswife says:
    In real life I would let him tie me up and do whatever he wanted to me. So, he can be my fictional and real Christian Grey any day. He is the ONLY reason I will see this movie. He cleans up really well. Just google some of his older images and you will see.
  47. Jasrina says:
    WOW! How disappointing…completely gutted. Matt Bomer would have been the ULTIMATE Christian Grey. Not so sure that I would want to watch this movie anymore with this reported cast. Too bad, so sad. 🙁
  48. lamgirls3 says:
    I didn’t understand this casting, either. Then, I googled pics of him. Now, I get it — he is absolutely gorgeous w/out the beard and slicked back hair.
  49. Lucy says:
    All I’ll say is: They left Matt Bomer alone, YAY. I do think it might help Charlie’s career, though.
  50. anet says:
    Tall, pink and piggy….mmmmmmmmmmmmnothanks.
  51. TherapyCranes says:
    I actually think he will be good in this role. When he’s cleaned up he looks pretty hunky and in SOA he oozes sexuality. I think he can pull it off. However.. I have little hope this movie will be any good. The book was absolutely terrible but if you cut out all the stupid inner dialogue Ana has with herself it might be salvageable.
  52. Katie says:
    For anyone doubting Charlie based on pics, just watch one episode of SoA and you will see why he’s perfect. He’s such a badass and super sexy. Love him!
  53. LD says:
    i’m actually more disappointed in Ana’s casting than anything. i agree with whoever said, for twilight everyone was anti robert pattinson but they cleaned him up nice and than everyone fawned over him and i think that is exactly what will happen with charlie. however, dakota? seriously?? she’s way more suited to play elena. how old is she? she has to be almost 40?! i really hope they fix this casting error otherwise i’m seriously boycotting this film.
  54. Katie says:
    She’s 23, not almost 40
  55. Luna says:
    He makes me think about heath
  56. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:
    He looks just like Spencer Pratt.
  57. Halicon says:
    hoping this will turn out like Showgirls. So bad that provides endless laughter and entertainment. Just wondering how far much nudity they will show because I would think the studio would want it to get the most money as possible.
    Maybe his girlfriend is a fan of the books or something and he is doing this for her?
  58. ZAK says:
    Hunnam was atrocious in Pacific Rim, he is perfect for vapid trash like 50 Shades of Grey. I don’t see it helping his career though.
  59. umyeah says:
    Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are the worst actors and not attractive at all, but those stupid twilight movies still sold. Then they got roles just because of the series and all those movies they have been in have failed miserably. I think the same thing will happen here. Charlie cleans up nice and Dakota as a brunette will play the mousy girl to the best of her ability. In this case, the movie will make the actors and not the other way around.
  60. Adrien says:
    Those are very ‘beigey’ cast members. You could slip Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag in the cast and no one would notice it.
    Dakota is pretty. She reminds me of young Helen Hunt or Leelee Sobieski. I see a bit of young Sharon Stone too. BUT she does not look like a college senior.
    Charlie Hunnam, he’s a… what the heck, why do I care about the casting? This ain’t same level with Batman/Ultron casting outrage. I don’t care who embodies Christian Grey. It’s not like a classic, well loved novel. Gilbert Godfried can play Christian.
  61. lady_luck says:
    UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Words cannot express just how disappointing these castings are. Talk about a bitter anti-climax. WTF????!!! Both of them I just look at and it’s an immediate yawn or meh. And hang on a sec, isn’t Christian Grey meant to be a “mature” man? The Johnson girl just doesn’t have enough innocence or class about her. Oh gosh I feel so bitter.
  62. Talie says:
    For Anastasia, I was sure Nina Dobrev would be at the top.
  63. bangarang says:
    He has the spencer pratt flesh colored ‘tash going on. EWWW
  64. Nya says:
    Hahahahha good luck with this mess, Charlie. He’s not a good enough actor to make this watchable even for laughs (of all the horrible acting in Pacific Rim he was the WORST).
    Thank GOD no one I cared about got that part.
  65. lolamd says:
    Okay I am going to venture to say that he only took the part after reading the script which resembles the book in spirit??? oh please please let that be the case.
  66. Katie says:
    Anyone calling Charlie a bad actor has not watch Sons of Anarchy. He’s awesome on that show!
  67. tealily says:
    I swoon for Charlie, but I wish he wasn’t doing this.
    And I will venture that anyone who is commenting on him not being attractive has never seen him in motion. There is no Spencer Prattness to him at all, I promise! Doesn’t look like the dude described in the excerpt above, though.
  68. Janelle says:
    Anyone else wondering what’s up with Dakota’s teeth?????
