Keira Knightley in Mary Katrantzou at TIFF: beautiful or the same old thing?

Here are even more fashion photos from TIFF. Keira Knightley flew in from Venice (where she seemed to be just making paid appearances at a variety of promotional parties/events) to promote Can A Song Save Your Life? That’s the film she did with Mark Ruffalo and Adam Levine. Ruffalo wasn’t there (but Adam Levine was), so Keira had to work extra-hard to promote the film, which seems to be getting decent-to-good reviews.

Keira wore this Mary Katrantzou dress which… I really thought was a repeat. It feels like Keira has worn this before, right? But everybody says it’s new and that she’s never worn this before. I think it feels so familiar because this is one of Keira’s favorite silhouettes – the strapless princess gown with a full (or full-ish) skirt and a fitted bodice. It’s a very Audrey Hepburn look, which makes sense because Keira has a very similar figure to Audrey. I think Keira looks very pretty here, but I would love to see her mix it up a little bit more – she’s so slim and many designers would consider her the perfect “hanger” for all kinds of clothes. She doesn’t need to keep doing this princess dresses.

More photos… Tom Felton and his girlfriend Jade Olivia, both in Burberry. I LOVE HER DRESS. I don’t even know who Jade Olivia is at all, but she looks amazing in that dress.

Ralph Fiennes and Felicity Jones at a photocall for their movie The Invisible Woman. That’s the film where he’s playing Charles Dickens. Felicity plays Dickens’ young lover/girlfriend. I don’t care for her outfit, but she would have made a great Anastasia Steele in 50 Shades.

Elizabeth Olsen promoting Therese, wearing a Proenza Schouler Resort 2014 sack dress. This thing is awful! So unflattering, so shapeless, and those shoes are hideous.

Lupita Nyong’o in a gorgeous shift dress at a TIFF party. God, she’s so beautiful. She’s one of those women who could wear a burlap sack and she would still look amazing. I call that “The Blanchett Quality”. This dress could be some cheap little thing from Target and Lupita makes it looks so rich and exquisite. If I was a designer, I would be falling all over myself to dress Lupita.

Elizabeth Olsen is hideous to me.

    Lupita looks stunning.

    • Liv says:

Lupita has so much charisma! Really gorgeous.

    • Ai says:

Elizabeth shouldn’t have had her nose job; whoever did it – totally botched it. Too narrow to the point where she doesn’t seem to have a proper nose, but a skeleton one. She really didnt need it in the first place.

    • BW says:

I don’t know who Lupita is but she is stunning.

All the Olsens look like their faces are melting.

  2. T.fanty says:

    I love the dress.

Ralph really needs to do something with the hair. And that jacket. He looks like the pervy old man that all the girls avoid sitting next to on the bus.

    • RocketMerry says:

I agree, Keira’s dress is so pretty and she wears it so nicely… she’s such a beauty.

Aaand Ralph… I tend to believe Ralph could go around without shaving nor combing for a year while only wearing trash bags and STILL be utter perfection. But yeah, a bit more effort once in a while, please?

      Oh, and Lupita Nyong’o… GORGEOUS!

    • Lauren says:

His hair makes my vagina sad.

  3. Marty says:

I always remember Felicity Jones from that small tv series she did with Tom Hardy. Their chemistry was amazing.

  4. Timber says:

Skinny pants on “men” is just so wrong.

  5. Ed says:

Keira wore something very different in Venice less than a week ago.

  6. Kate says:

Lupita and Keira look amazing, the print on Keira’s dress is stunning! I don’t know if I want the dress or if I want to go to the place that’s on the dress.

Keira used to wear more modern clothes until she started getting attacked for being ‘too thin’. Ever since then she’s gone for these classic silhouettes that make her look like she might have some curves hiding beneath the fabric.

    • QQ says:

AGREED Both Ladies look great, and Frankly After that Garner Post I am giving everyone golfclaps and ribbons for participation for not picking Fug skintone sating to awkwardly overlay with Red Lace in a puffy mess with a belt… EVERYONE

    • Spooks says:

I love Keira’s dress. And I love her, she so beautiful. And I love Mary Katrantzou, her dresses are always great.

Lupita is drop dead gorgeous, but the dress looks kinda cheap.

  7. Anki says:

LOVE the dress.. but it needs to be worn by someone who’s supermodel-tall.

    • cr says:

She’s listed as been five foot seven, so she’s not that short compared to supermodels.

      • Jae says:

        5’7 is almost supermodel-tall now?

I’m always surprised by what is considered ‘tall’ in Hollywood. I mean, I’m 6’1, and the idea that girls, who in sky-high heels would be shorter than I am barefoot are considered tall is… baffling.

      • LAK says:

Jae – the average height for actresses these days seems to be 5ft 3in. 5ft 7in is tall for a Hollywood actress. Hollywood men are also fairly short. 5ft 10in / 11in being the average. So when you have legitimately tall actresses like Nicole Kidman or even a tallish one like Kiera, they seem taller because they are standing next to small men.

The height thing isn’t a requirement, but something that’s simply evolved. Like the size zero effect that happens to actresses now.

  8. Original A says:

Lupita is beautiful. Elizabeth puzzles me. She had one real success, that Mary Martha indie film, but at least four or five indies that flopped hard along with a few mainstream commercial flops. It’s amazing that she snatches roles from Emma Watson who comes with name recognition (I know Bling Ring flopped but still) or Saroise Ronan with her Oscar nomination when she has a history of numerous mainstream and indie flops. I love Felicity Jones–still think it’s odd she’ll be on Lena Dunham’s Girls next year as that seems like an odd fit.

    • Cary says:

I love Emma Watson but (please don’t kill me fangirls) she’s not a very strong actress. Saoirse Ronan is very talented but she doesn’t have Elizabeth Olsen’s name recognition (which is of course solely because of her sisters). If you have to choose between two comparably talented actresses you’re going to go to the one who will instantly grab press attention. Plus that also helps with financing, which is important on indie films.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

You don’t have to tell me. Emma Watson CANNOT ACT. Not at all. The last three HP movies I cringed. The only reason she gets half the attention she does is because she went/is going to Brown, and was in HP. That’s it.

She is awful. And if you think about it, she hasn’t even stretched herself—all she’s been doing is playing jealous teenage girls–Hermione, Valley Girl in ‘bling ring’, the wardrobe person in Marilyn…..

She has never made me look at her and say ‘I’m going to follow her film career’–I’ll follow her gossip “career”, but I’m not spending one quarter on any of her films. Ever.

You’ll notice that the person who can actually act out of the three (Daniel Radcliffe) doesn’t get as much media attention.

And I don’t get why people say she’s sooo beautiful. I think she’s cute, maybe even pretty, but that’s all makeup. She looks like an average, ordinary girl without it–which isn’t a bad thing, but she doesn’t have the personality or charisma to “enhance” her looks.

Like Cate Blanchett—if I just looked at her in the street, I would think she was a very pretty, well aged, blonde woman. But the way she carries herself, her grace, her acting skill, that look in her eyes makes her sooo much more attractive and almost sensual to me.

My opinion anyway—you see I have strong feelings about her.

I don’t like that she’s hyped up to be so amazingly good, have this redhot career simply because she’s a “good girl”

    • Spooks says:

Elizabeth is a much stronger actress than Emma. Emma is in the Blake Lively league.
Saoirse is amazing, though, I wish she would work more.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

        This exactly.

Emma Watson is so unbelievably bland.

      • Tig says:

I agree – she is amazing! Check out her performance in “Byzantium”.

      • Mrs. Darcy says:

Ouch, harsh diss comparing Emma to Blake! I disagree, Blake is a monosyllabic dead zone, but Emma is growing on me. I was bored to death during the Bling Ring (man did it suck) but Emma was truly the only watchable person in it, she did a great job making a banal character almost interesting. I think she is going to grow more intersting the more unique roles she gets. So far Elizabeth to me is good but samey, nothing she has done has blown me away.

      • Bijlee says:

People need to see I could never be your woman. I love that film. Saoirse is adorable in that movie!

  9. lower-case deb says:

    Lupita looks amazing!
and I agree with you about the Blanchett effect.

The people before Lupita all slouch and have no posture. confidence goes a long way!

    • I Choose Me says:

Yes exactly. So many of these women slouch on the red carpet or do not seem fully present, if you know what I mean. Compare with ladies like Cate, Tilda, Viola Davis and Lupita who command your attention because of their poise, grace and good posture.

  10. blue marie says:

Lupita looks the best of everyone. gah, I wish I could pull off that kind of hairstyle.

Keira looks good. Tom and his girlfriend look a bit alike. Felicity looks cute, but I don’t understand Elizabeth-pretty girl but always dresses frumpy.

    • Stef Leppard says:

“Pretty girl but always dresses frumpy”

Must be an Olsen thing. Her sisters are pretty and always wear homeless chic outfits.

  11. chloe says:

Love Keira’s dress. I love Ralph but how many different shades of denim is he wearing in that outfit?

  12. lucy2 says:

Lupita is stunning! Totally agree about the Blanchett factor. I would kill for that figure.

Elizabeth Olson looks like one of her sisters after some odd plastic surgery, if that makes any sense.

I hope it’s just the angle of the photo, otherwise that Jade woman has some serious bobble head going on there, but that dress is pretty great.

  13. Chinoiserie says:

Keira looks gorgeous in the first and second photos but I do not know why she is sucking her cheeks in the third. Maybe somebody told her that it makes her look better since she does it often, it just makes her look gaunt.

  14. Maria says:

There’s something truly regal about Lupita and her style is on point.

I can’t wait to see her come award season.

    • CaribbeanLaura says:

I concour. That woman is STUNNING!!! like no joke, I’m sure she’ll kill it for this awards season and maybe top it off with an oscar? Can’t wait to see 12 years a slave. Even tho just reading the reviews made me cry.

  15. Abby says:

    Love kiera’s dress!!

    • T.C. says:

Me too. She’s really slim on top but a bit hippy below that’s why the Princess dresses. They fit her shape. The other two ladies look good too. That Olsen twin sister not so good.

  16. eliza says:

I adore Knightley. I think she is absolutely gorgeous and have loved her in every movie she has been in.

  17. linlin says:

I like Keira’s dress a lot, but wish she had worn it with silver shoes. Lupita is gorgeous! I haven’t seen her in anything yet, but she has a lot of charisma. She also seems to be smart- she worked on the production team of the constant gardener and Mira Nair’s the namesake! I really hope she becomes a big star- how wonderful would that be, a beautiful, intelligtent star who happens to be from Kenya.

  18. Inky says:

I don’t know what it is, but I really adore Felicity Jones, I have seen her in a few things and really enjoyed her in all of them. She also had a lovely print ad a while ago, can’t remember who it was for though. Definitely make up.

Also Lupita is absolutely gorgeous, so jealous of all these ladies!

  19. I Choose Me says:

Lupita Nyong’o is killing it. The dress, her skin, her confidence and poise. She is fab!

  20. Allijo says:

    Keira Knightley = Girl Crush

That dress is awesome, even if it is same old same old from her.

  21. Jayna says:

Lupita does carry herself with confidence, but always seems to wear clothes that really flatter her skin tone and doesn’t try to go trendy to make a statement as many do even if not working on them. Instead she goes with classic and what actually is the most flattering and looks best on her.

  22. vava says:

This dress is doing nothing for Keira’s bustline.

  23. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Whatever happened with Keira? One minute she was all over the place, the next she’s just kind of gone. Maybe the ending of the Pirates franchise–for her, at least.

RALPH FIENNES! Oh my Lord! Don’t care about that tragic hair situation (or the clothes), he looks better with them off, anyways. I swear, Ralph was my first real crush–celebrity or otherwise. I didn’t like the boys in my grade, and I watched Wuthering Heights…heaven have a mercy. That’s all I have to say about that.

Let’s just say for about a year and a half, I would come home and go on youtube and watch whatever I could of him. Let’s just say certain scenes from ‘The English Patient’ got replayed again and again and again and again….

I’m a little ashamed to say that I watched Schindler’s List more times than I might’ve because my two foreverdongs were in it–Liam and Ralph.

    What a sandwich.

    • Chinoiserie says:

Well at least she has more going on career-wise than Orlando (who is in the tabloids constantly because of Miranda).

    • Lauren says:

Ralph is my one and only FD.

Is it bad that I laugh at some of Amon’s lines in Schindler’s list? (Re-watched it for the first time since high school recently.) He’s just so f*cking good.

  24. Mrs. Darcy says:

Keira looks lovely, if she was showing off her boniness she would just get a slating so I’m not surprised she sticks to this shape. I think the dress is so pretty and the colours really suit her. Felicity looks cute, I like her dress sense – she probably didn’t want to dress too sexy in case Uncle Ralph got gropey! I would wear Elizabeth’s dress on a beach or something, not a red carpet though. Whoever that Lupita girl is she is v.pretty in orange, nothing remarkable about the dress but agree she’d look amazing in some crazy Blanchett/high fashion styling.

  25. m says:

I thought that was Emily Blunt standing with Tom Felton.

  26. Claudia says:

Lupita looks fantastic, but those shoes are hideous. Elizabeth Olsen is starting to dress like her slouchy drowning-in-fabric sisters, she needs to be careful about that.

I don’t know who Felicity Jones is (don’t care enough to google), but she looks adorable. Keira is looking a little anemic… I don’t know, that’s a weird descriptor right? Just limp and weak and tired. Aside from the print of the dress, she really doesn’t look good here.

  27. Stace says:

I just saw this dress in SAKS last week and told my mom that I thought it looked like a painting – it’s so beautiful!

  28. JillyRo says:

I love Keira. She is so classy in interviews and just lovely in all she wears. That Lupita gal…stunning!!And whoever did Elizabeth Olsen’s nose job should give her “loss” of jobs pay as she is WAY to distracting with that bad nose job on the big screen. So Michael ackson like!! Does her nose have a tip? Did they shave too much off the tip? Can she even breathe??!! That girl should have left her nose alone if she wanted a good career.

  29. IceQueen says:

I’m bored by all of them except Lupita.

  30. A says:

Keira is pear shaped and doesn’t seem to like to show off her legs.
Lupita is so pretty. Look at that face! And love the color of her dress.

  31. leni says:

I think Keira looks perfect. Her face is exquisite.

  32. ichsi says:

Keira’s dress is perfect for her non-existant figure. It gives her shape and I love the colours on her.

Lupita is STUNNING. What you can’t see on this pics are her amazing guns. And if you can trust the first reviews of 12 years a slave her acting is excellent too. So hell yeah, I can’t wait to see more from this lady!

  33. jacquie109 says:

I love that she has no boobs and has never gotten implants. I think she’s comfortable with herself and thats a fantastic thing for girls to see.
