John Legend & Chrissy Teigen got married in Italy, but they didn’t have a cake!

Just days after going topless for her man’s new music video, Chrissy Teigen married John Legend in Italy. This seemed sudden to me! They were all over the place during NYFW, and then John put Chrissy in his new video, which was also shooting last week… and then they jetted off a whirlwind wedding in Italy? Sure. Okay. I guess they’ve been engaged for a while though, so maybe it’s not so sudden:

Meet Mr. and Mrs. Legend! John Legend and Chrissy Teigen made it official when they exchanged vows in front of friends and family in Lake Como, Italy on Saturday, E! reports.

The nuptials follow a seven-year courtship for the couple, who became engaged in 2011 while vacationing together in the Maldives.

Earlier this year, Teigen, 27, told PEOPLE her Grammy-winning groom, 34, would perform his new song “All of Me” at the wedding, which was written for her.

“He writes a lot of love songs, but this one is specifically about me so it makes it more special,” Teigen told PEOPLE in May. “My Dad even cries when I play it for him in the car.”

The model bride wore a Vera Wang gown, which she described to PEOPLE as “kind of [having] a sexier feel at the top, like a swimsuit, so I have to get my body ready. I have to buckle down.” She was so careful about preparing her figure for the frock that her bachelorette party included Pilates classes.

But despite her rigorous attention to her physique, she says she was much more laid-back about wedding planning overall.

“[John] and I have been working and traveling so much that we just let our wedding planner do everything,” Teigen told PEOPLE in May. “We’re not neurotic about it. I just want to finally see all of my friends in one area.”

But she cops to being a bit more involved in one aspect of the wedding – the cake.

“I’m not a big sweets person, which is why I’m really specific about the cake, which is going to be a really multi-layer cake,” she told PEOPLE in June. “It’s layers and layers of crepe and pastry creme in between with raspberry sauce.”

With the wedding behind them, perhaps now is the time the couple will start thinking about all those kids Legend told PEOPLE he wants.

“We’d like to have kids,” he said in May. “I grew up in a family with four kids, so I think three or four is a good number. We don’t plan it. We just do it.”

[From People]

“It’s layers and layers of crepe and pastry creme in between with raspberry sauce” – that sounds good, but it doesn’t sound like CAKE. Why do celebrities insist on bucking tradition when it comes to the cake? Is it just about the fear of carbs? Or does every celebrity feel like this is their moment, this is where they are going to take a “stand” against the wedding industrial complex by not having a real cake? I mean, it’s your WEDDING. If you want crepes and raspberry sauce, that’s fine. Go wild. But you should also have a cake!

That “cake” sounds good. I think I prefer that to a regular cake. Congrats to that.

    • Mika says:

+1 Me too. Cakes are overrated anyway. 😛

      • judysee says:

Yes, I agree, cakes are way overrated. I think we have them because we think we should. One of my kids always asks for blueberry pie for his birthday. I don’t care for sweets and I usually skip cake for my birthday celebration. Just good food and a great syrah.

      • itstrue says:

I think wedding “traditions” are ridiculous. The only people that care about it are usually a thousand years old. Do what makes you happy. Period.

      • Bird says:

Cake is OVERRATED? This is absolute crazy talk.

    • Mindy says:

I didnt have cake at my wedding either. We are not cake people. We just thought screw those of our guests who rocked up JUST to eat cake, they can pick up some Sara Lee on their way home.

    • CG says:

+1. I’d def rather have that than boring vanilla buttercream. Wedding cakes are overrated and overpriced anyway! If I ever get married, I’d rather have a cupcake tower or dessert bar. My cousin had a dessert bar at her wedding and it was awesome!

    • irishserra says:

Screw tradition. I just love cake.

    • gefeylich says:

Apparently Kaiser hasn’t been trolling Pinterest lately, because traditional tiered wedding cakes are OVER amongst the hip, groovy and cutting-edge. Today people want dessert tables (with lots of different sweet things presented beautifully on vintage servingware), candy and/or cookie tables, wedding pies, towers of many colored macarons (cupcakes are also over) or dowels with all kinds of doughnuts stacked on them.

I think the “crepe cake” sounds fabulous and totally original and not boring. Good on them.

    • Chicagogurl says:

Sounds delicious. I went to a summer wedding with a build your own mini pie bar and everyone loved it!

  2. ray says:

She looks like a darker Kate Moss.

  3. Nanea says:

    Congrats, Chrissy&John!

But E!??? Seriously, in Lake Como? So did they get married in the water?

  4. Lama says:

Shouldn’t couples try to make their wedding their own? I know I’ve always found it more memorable when the food reflects the couple and their tastes in some way. Plus, as long as there’s some kind of dessert, who cares

    • Maggie says:

Dude, that is the wedding industry trying to shape culture. It’s a wedding. Nobody needs to join the Knot and personalize everything. *cough* I’m looking at you Kate Bosworth!

That said, I spent 2012 planning my wedding and I come from a very burned out Type A experience. Ahem. And it was camping theme no less. If I could turn back time we would have eloped.

  5. coe says:

Sigh,I think he could have done better. Chrissy seems so down market for John Legend..

    • Katia says:

Well if they’ve been daring 7 years he’s had time to consider her. She seems really nice

    • Deehunny says:

Downmarket isn’t the word I would use but I understand your point. I saw her on Fashion Police and seemed like a total idiot. A cute, harmless idiot. Some men aren’t looking for an intellectual equal.

    • Leila in Wunderland says:

She’s not as nice as you think. Yes, she is downmarket for him. My bff and I have made it a point to dislike this woman because of some things that she has said on twitter.

    • Bijlee says:

Meh. Match made in heaven it seems. I think John Legend is probably alot like her…I love the dude’s music tho.

  6. Buckwild says:

It’s her wedding, she’ll have just crepe if she wants to. Congrats to them both!

  7. lala says:

Maybe they just don’t like cake. It’s not just a celebrity thing. My fiance and I both don’t like cake and can’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on something neither of us like. We are having a dessert table instead.

    Her “cake” sounds delicious!

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

Agreed. Not everyone likes cake. I usually have a poppy seed pie for my birthday. Their version of a wedding cake sounds delicious. Just yesterday I had a wedding related fight with my best friend because she finds my idea of a quiet, inexpensive wedding ridiculous. I can’t imagine spending hundreds of dollars on a cake or thousands of dollars on a dress. When the right time comes, I’m going to invite just the closest friends and relatives and buy a simple, reasonably priced dress while she’s going to waste her entire vacation from her regular work on working very hard (physically, in a very rough conditions) in a different place, just to afford a very expensive, designer wedding dress. I don’t see the point – you wear it once. The same thing with cake – those fancy wedding cakes are very impresive but are they really worth their price?

  8. lenje says:

I like the description of her wedding cake. I’d take the layers and layers of crepes over the “real” cake.

  9. Spooks says:

    I find her so annoying.

    • Dannielle says:

      Me too.

    • GeeMoney says:

      Her Twitter feed is worse.

I like it that she’s honest and fires back at people who write crappy stuff to her online, but responding to EVERYONE who does it every five minutes is just awful. Who has that amount of time in the day?

Other than that, congrats to her and John.

    • Leila in Wunderland says:

Her twitter account is actually the reason why I can’t stand the witch.

  10. Maria says:

I must be really horrific at guessing age because she does not look like a woman in her twenties to me, at all.

    • Frida_K says:

That’s what I thought, too: she looks a lot older than a woman in her twenties. And, because I’m snarky, I also thought: their children will have large foreheads.

  11. Angie says:

It’s not just a celebrity thing to not want cake. When we got married last year, we did it in Vegas and had our reception at a buffet. The owners of the buffet offered to make us a cake but the minimum cost would have been $200. There was no point in doing that when a huge dessert spread was ready-made and everyone could have something that they liked. Also, in my (admittedly limited) experience, wedding cakes tend to look more delicious than they really are. All flash and no substance, heh. We’re celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary in exactly 2 weeks and so far we have not regretted the lack of cake =)

  12. KellyinSeattle says:

I don’t think she sounds like the brightest bulb, but then, I had chocolate cream pie at my wedding. And no, it wasn’t on Springer being smashed on my face!

    • Sara says:

Shes actually very witty. Her tweets are usually very smart, self-aware and sassy (she has some off days though)

  13. janie says:

She’s so thrilled he finally put a ring on it, she would have done anything for it! She looked lovely… that’s about the best I can come up with.

  14. Bridget says:

That sounds like something my grandmoyher would say. ”It was a nice wedding, but they didnt have a cake, can you believe it?” Sometimes people just don’t like cake, and they went for something that’s a different texture but the same shape.

  15. Wrachul says:

I don’t know too much about her except what I’ve read on this site. From what little I’ve seen she seems outspoken, opinionated, and witty though. I LOVE John Legend so for his sake I hope they make it.
As far as the cake or no cake thing goes… It’s their wedding. They can do what they want. The wedding should be about the commitment, not the little details like that anyway.

  16. sauvage says:

I just cringe at the thought of my bachelorette party including Pilates classes. (And, mind you, I do a lot of Pilates myself! I just don’t believe in shoving it down my friends’ throats, you know? They might prefer running, or not be into sports at all, so… no.) I’d rather just get drunk surrounded by people I love and trust. But, hey, that’s just me.

What I actually love is this quote: “We don’t plan it. We just do it.” IT being the key word here. 😀

  17. Anna says:

She didn’t want cake because, like she said, she’s not really into sweets and what she’s having really isn’t that sweet. Why does it matter anyway? If I don’t like cake should I have it at my wedding because it’s “tradition”. Give me a break.

  18. J7 says:

I would really reconsider having to look at her wonky eye for the rest of my life.

  19. brin says:

Congrats to them, they make a cute couple!

  20. lenje says:

I didn’t know much about the couple, especially her. So after reading about their wedding, I googled her, and what I found is quite interesting. So she tweets like crazy, is very opinionated, and once got a writer on Jezebel really pissed off for calling Farah Abraham a sl*t. I hate that sl*t word, so I’m with Jezebel. What is written about her tweets makes me kinda scared to visit her twitter, so I would probably never follow her. BUT, I like her blog (SoDelishious?), and I like her interviews — she seems pretty smart and eloquent.

    • Naomi says:

I follow her off & on. I find her endearing. She says what she thinks & does not put up with anyone’s crap. I found that she will apologize when she is incorrect or offends. She does appear to try to be informed and, to me, does not seem to comment without thinking. I think she can be witty & baudy & her comments about her parents can be hilarious. I also appreciate that while she does promote her events & appearances she mostly interacts with her followers in a way that makes me think she is genuinely engaged.

    • claire says:

I found her the other way around. Started reading her twitter, could NOT stop laughing and then read up on her and learned about all her other endeavors. I think she’s hilarious, witty, smart. She also engages a ton with people and is very self-deprecating, which always wins points with me over the big entitled egotistical celebrities out there.

    • Dommy Dearest says:

Your comment Lenje is what I was thinking about in my comment below. I found her a bit hypocritical and says something to get attention brought to her. She went topless in his video and yet she felt that she could call backdoor Teen Mom that word. As if she looks down on that and I think I remember reading somewhere that she thinks it’s tacky when other people get down to their underwear and whatnot and yet she does the same thing. I find her a little crass in all honesty. Like it’s easy to roll my eyes, pat her on the head and say ‘Good for you’ then get on with my day.

But that’s just me and my input 😀

    • FingerBinger says:

@ Dommy Dearest Her being topless and the Teen Mom doing back door porn is totally different IMO.

      • Dommy Dearest says:

It is different however, to me, at the end of the day she’s still shedding clothes either for money, promotion or what other reasons there could be. Can’t stand Farrah at all but I find it just slightly hypocritical on this girl’s side at the same time. But at least she has more braincells than Backdoor Teen Mom.

    • Leila in Wunderland says:

Thank you for hitting on the exact reason why my friend and I can’t stand her. We take certain social justice issues very seriously, so we also take the things that public figures say very seriously. The girl is on our public figure $hit list, along with Serena Williams, Rush Limbaugh, and a few other people:)

  21. Renee says:

I think that she looks like Khloe Kardashian but that Khloe is better looking…I am nt a fan of Chrissy. I didn’t like her tweet about Quvenzhané Wallis, I thought that it was a jerky thing to do to a kid, it was quite disrespectful. Also, I think that we set the bar so low for celebrities, especially models, when it comes to what passes for wit and/or intelligence. She may not be a dummy but I still wouldn’t classify her as sharp.

Um, congrats to the lovely couple???

  22. jilly says:

What race is she exactly? Hard to tell. She looks like an Afro-Asian combo but I am not sure. Does anyone know?

  23. JC says:

Gâteau Mille Crêpes is actually a traditional French cake and is quite common. I see them on menus here in San Francisco pretty frequently. And they are delicious! 🙂

  24. Jennifer12 says:

They are going to have beautiful babies! I like the idea of a wedding cake; it’s a tradition that anyone can get into. My wedding cake was cannoli, and neither of us are Italian.

  25. Ag says:

Why do people get so hung up on cake? Who cares, seriously. Their ” cake” sounds delicious. (We had an ice cream cake at our wedding. It was beyond amazing and everyone loved it.)

    • Claudia says:

Exactly. And why shell out a lot of money for something you don’t even enjoy, when weddings are expensive enough? Just because of tradition? It’s silly. I believe in really personalizing weddings; it’s a reflection of who you are as people, and who you are as a couple. That’s the beauty in it, and what I find to be so fun and lively about weddings.

I was in the bridal party for three weddings in the last month and a half, and only one had a traditional cake. My sister and her now-husband didn’t like cake, my best friend decided to go with a dessert bar and a tower of croquembouche, and the last friend only went with cake because a country club was hosting and they provided cake. No complaints from any guests (and I skipped the cake at the last wedding– just not a fan).

Ag– I’ve never heard of an icecream cake at a wedding. Sounds delicious 🙂

      • Ag says:

Thanks! It was amazing. Beautifully done like a two-tier round cake with a white basket weave design as “frosting”. We had an ice cream shop in DC do it (their original store is in NJ, my home state). I can’t eat cake-cake, and we weren’t going to have something the guests can eat, but I can’t. It was our freaking wedding, so we did what we wanted. 🙂 Everyone loved it – who doesn’t like ice cream? 🙂 I say do as you please – if someone doesn’t like it, they won’t eat it. Ha!

    • Dommy Dearest says:

Thank you! If I ever tie the knot I’m totally doing an ice cream cake. I hate regular cake.

  26. Melissa says:

Congratulations to them! I saw her dress and some pictures on People Mag and it seems they had a lovely wedding.

But I can never warm up to Chrissy or her and John Legend as a couple. He is a beautiful soulful singer, the type I’d rather hear about only when he’s releasing an album or winning a big award. He has gotten very tabloid-y friendly for my taste.

    Wish them the best!

  27. Dommy Dearest says:

Isn’t she the same girl that has bashed other women for being naked or half naked in photoshoots on her Twitter? Pfft.

That last picture with her eyes like that… Lawd.

  28. Bijlee says:

When I get married. I’m going to have all sorts of deserts. A delicious and moist three milk cake will be the central feature though. There will be a moat of ice cold vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream around it and some warm fried cheescake balls, apple pie, and pecan pie next to it. Then imma have me some bread pudding and creme brulee and a ton of other deserts. I haven’t even gotten to brown people deserts! OMG! Yeah I don’t dream about the actual wedding and decorations like I do the food. If i have a wedding it will be a decadent feast. Not a snooze fest celebrating my love. It will celebrate my gut. All leftovers the guests can take home, we give to the homeless, and keep the rest for me (hubby not included).

  29. TG says:

I never look at twitter so I don’t know much about her. I do think she is very pretty though even if her face does look like those cats with a flat square face as someone on Radar described her. I tend to think people with animal faces are attractive, whether that be a horse face or a praying mantis face, and now a cat face.

Her wedding dress is godawful though. I love the tulle part just not the tacky open area on the front. It looks like her dress is on backwards. Tragic.

  30. Abby says:

her blog is freaking hilarious. And it’ll make you hungry–so many food posts! Other than her blog that I recently discovered, I know nothing about her.

  31. AnnieN says:

@Kaiser – Google torta de panqueques and you can see some pretty fancy versions of a crepe cake. They are delicious!
