Prince William, Harry & Pippa Middleton attend aristocratic country wedding

Since you guys seem to love photos of English people getting married (no shade, I love these photos too), here are some pics of the wedding of James Meade and Lady Laura Marsham in Norfolk on Saturday. Prince Harry and Prince William were in attendance. Duchess Kate was not in attendance and neither was little Prince George of course. But Pippa Middleton was there. Pippa is very much “always the bridesmaid,” isn’t she? But I have to give her some credit, the only time she really overshadowed a bride was during the royal wedding. Other than that, Pippa always manages to ensure that the bride is the prettiest woman in the room. Obviously, I really dislike Pippa’s dress. What is it with the Middleton women and fussy lace dresses? They love the doily look.

I thought for a second that the blonde in the white coat was Cressida Bonas, but upon further examination, I’m pretty sure that’s not Cressida. So Harry might have been flying solo? That must be why his hand is down his vest in half of the wedding photos. I get the feeling that Harry is the kind of dude who rubs his own nipples when he’s speaking to you.

As for the bride and groom… let’s see. Lady Laura is the daughter of the Earl of Romney and James Meade is the son of an Olympic gold medalist/equestrian. So, basically, two horse-loving people getting married in horse country. James went to Eton with Harry and Will, and I guess William has known Lady Laura for a while. What are the thoughts on her wedding gown? At first I thought it looked like a budget version of Duchess Kate’s wedding gown, but there are some differences, mostly involving that weird waistband thing. But Lady Laura looks very happy. And James is rather cute. They will make lovely horse-babies together.

Pippa looks cute here! The lace makes her waist look tiny.

    • Liv says:

Shoes, dress and purse in blue? Hate it when it’s too obviously matched.

    • chia says:

      I love the fascinator!

    • MavenTheFirst says:

The dress does not flatter her. Neither does the colour. Overall it’s a travesty. And oh, that skin!

The bride looks lovely. The bride and groom look lovey dovey. Nice.

Where is the wife of Duke Dolittle? Oh, let me guess- she didn’t want to upstage the bride :eye roll:. She’s a new mother and that that Tusk glam job was so taxing and baby George needs his mother. :eye roll:

Makes me wonder if Dolittle knows she is despised by her husband’s posse. Meanwhile, Pippa hangs in there.

      • bluhare says:

        She went shopping!!

      • Florc says:

Shopping was not the official excuse though. The official reason given was she was going to spend time with George. Instead she was caught in many stores over more than a few hours holding many bags that her assistants could not carry because their hands were already full of bags. Baby George was with his nannies. She’s allowed to shop and having time away from her baby. Just don’t lie about it.

And I bet she knows she wasn’t welcomed at the wedding, but I wonder if William told her not to come. Wasn’t Jecca there too? Kate is always with William if one of his exs are around and with a high hemline without fail, right?! Or does my tinfoil hat need adjusting?

      • lenje says:

Ooohh.. what’s this all about? Spiiillll!!!

      • Green Girl says:

Those deep colors look harsh on Pippa and age her face. I always have to remember she’s only 30.

      • LAK says:

Florc – Jecca was in attendance. She’s in pics on the DM.

      • ZinJoJo says:

Did you notice that in every picture, Pippa is looking directly at the camera and making sure they get a good shot? The pics of William and Harry are candid and natural, no posing. Did she call the paps too?

      • taxi says:

Driving back & forth, 2+ hours each way, makes this a very long day for a London resident. Did Will & Harry go up the night before?

If I were nursing a young baby, I’d stay home too & take a shopping run between feedings. Unless I could get a ‘copter ride.

    • Stef Leppard says:

I like the dress except for the weird sheer sleeves.

  2. Tilly says:

    What a life…

  3. Sisi says:

her neckline looks nicer than Kate’s imo

  4. mel says:

The bride looks to be around 45 with that dated hairstyle.

    • T.C. says:

      She makes Pipa look good.

    • Malificent says:

      Please, I’m 45 and I wouldn’t be caught dead in that hairstyle….

    • LAK says:

I know these pics have been chosen specifically for Pippa and WH, but if you go to the DM’s site, there are pics of other guests, and as always Olivia Hunt really stands out. She is very pretty. She is wearing black and white check dress with red shoes. She always stands out at these gatherings.

And on a gossip note, briefly dated William at University.

      • Florc says:

All the more reason why I thought Kate would be there… Seems like she was maybe asked to hang back? I thought Jecca was the ex of William’s that was there. Olivia was always very pretty and good hearted.

      • Linny says:

Did anyone else notice prince William without his wedding ring on? And then tried to hide the fact by putting his left hand in his pocket?

      • Amy says:

Actually William does not wear a wedding ring. They made an official announcement after the wedding that William would not wear a band, only Kate would. Apparently it’s not uncommon in some European countries for men to not wear a band. I don’t think Prince Charles does either.

      • LAK says:

William didn’t receive a wedding ring. Announcement was made prior to the wedding that he wouldn’t receive one or wear one.

Charles has a wedding ring, ditto *Philip. Worn on their small finger behind the signet ring. If you zoom into pics of their hands, you can see the band.

*with age, Philip’s fingers swelled and he stopped wearing any rings of any description.

      • Kitten Mittens says:

Should have read your posts amy and LAK.

      • Kitten Mittens says:

        Linny
William declined to wear a wedding ring since before the wedding. He’s never had one made and never wears one.

    • Spooks says:

I googled her. She has pretty hair, but she’s very average in the face department.

    • Decloo says:

In fairness, there has been some inter-breeding between the English and their horses.

  5. Beatrice says:

Kate’s hair always looks healthy and super shiny, but Pippa’s hair looks dull and dry. I assume they use the same hairdresser so I don’t understand why Pippa’s hair doesen’t look better.

  6. m says:

Pippa looked awful as usual but birthday boy Harry looked hot! Kate probably wasnt there because these arent her friends and she always looks so out of place around aristos.
And for the love of god, just because a dress has lace sleeves doesnt make it a Waity look a like dress. If anything, this one actually looks like a more expensive gown inspired by Princess Grace. The bride looked beautiful, very English.

    • daisieb says:

I do think Pippa consciously dresses to underwhelm on occasions like this. She is very aware that she will be hounded by photogs and she doesn’t want to outshine the bride. She now writes for The Telegraph as well as Vanity Fair and Waitrose Kitchen Magazine(which saw a 17.4% rise in sales with her on its staff).

      http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/10307012/Pippa-Middleton-Boxing-is-a-pure-but-pleasing-agony.html

      • LAK says:

Aristos are always suspicious of people who dress in a manner that draws attention to themselves, that’s why they all seem to dress in a sort of dowdy uniform. Exception heirloom jewels if the occasion is appropriate.

I think there is a push/pull quality to Pippa’s dressing at these occasions because the brightness of her clothing makes her stand out in the crowd, but the frumpines of the clothing implies someone who is trying to fit in.

The brightness of Pippa’s clothing is straight out of HM’s playbook ie bright colours so that she is visible in a crowd. And Pippa always looks delighted at being photographed on these occasions.

The royal wedding was probably the first and last time that she could be really stylish as she would wish.

  7. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Love the bride’s bouquet. They look very happy.

Pippa looks nice in that color. Not in love with the dress.

  8. TG says:

Tell is something we don’t know. Just kidding but it does seem like all these aristocrats do is attend weddings and compete for the ugliest dress.

  9. winnei says:

pippa looks great and like a lot of fun. Don’t understand the dislike for this girl. She is very pretty in a sporty, girl-next-door way and i suspect she is far more charming, charismatic and intelligent than her sister.

    • Florc says:

      Winnei
A lot of us felt the same. Pippa seemed like a hard working woman wanting to blaze her own trail. Slowly she’s proving us wrong. Taking jobs she’s not equip for without advancing her skills. Almost like she feels she’s entitled to these jobs and has no need to improve. Along with having no sense of humor with the PippaTips people she’s shown she’s not very down to earth.

  10. CaribbeanLaura says:

The bride and groom look giddy. That’s cute I like that.

    • j.eyre says:

That’s where I fall too – they look pleased as punch and I love that.

Plus, I quite like that bridal gown. I was looking at Christy Tiegens this weekend thinking, man, I should have gone more Cinderella on my wedding dress – just big and flouncy and all those layers for that one day. But I wouldn’t have, I would have landed on something like this dress.

  11. Bijlee says:

I thought the title said prince William and pippa attend a sarcastic wedding. Only the British would do something like that.

  12. Christie says:

I LOVE the bride’s gown. That’s almost exactly what my dream dress looks like.

Does anyone know who designed it?

  13. Rida says:

Seriously! I think it might just be the aristos though. Most Brits look fairly normal but the aristos all look horsey. Must be the inbreeding…

  14. rtms says:

I always like these English weddings, especially the men and their suits. So much better than the US version. It just looks classy on them.

    • daisieb says:

      Me too!

    • Relli says:

I was just thinking that as well. I can tell you that more than once I showed up in what I assumed was something simple and elegant only to find myself as dressed up as the bride/groom and everyone else in jeans and cotton/jersey dresses and these were not outdoor weddings.

  15. emmie_a says:

“…Pippa always manages to ensure that the bride is the prettiest woman in the room”

“I get the feeling that Harry is the kind of dude who rubs his own nipples when he’s speaking to you.”

    haha!!

  16. Algernon says:

Does the Anglican church observe a “shoulders must be covered” rule like the Catholic church? Is that why all these dresses have sleeves? Or did Kate really start a trend?

    • emmie_a says:

Not 100% sure but I think your shoulders and knees must be covered in Westminster Abbey…

    • LAK says:

There is a strict ‘shoulders must be covered’ rule for Westminster and St Paul’s.

    • Reece says:

My favorite description is “diet Catholic” by Robin Williams. Same religion, half the guilt. lol (and the vicars can get married)

    • Bridget says:

That’s not a blanket rule for Catholics either, itjust depends on the priest and the parish.

    • Florc says:

I can’t remember who, but Kate’s wedding dress looked like the designer copied another dress at another royal wedding. Kate’s was better made because there was an army of people making it. The design though was a complete duplicate. Just a better quality one.
Kate can’t start a trend because her outfits are just so simple.

  17. The Original Mia says:

I actually thought the dress flattered her figure. Could have colored blocked with another color, though to break up the color match.

Birthday boy Harry looked hot. Where was Cressida?

Heard Pippa lost her Waitrose gig. Are her 15 minutes coming to an end?

    • Florc says:

Mia she was let go from Waitrose?

Pippa is capable of wearing nice dresses. I don’t know why she goes for lace and satin so much. During her book tour her grey peplum was very flattering. Wish she’d do more of that.

      • Justme says:

She wasn’t dropped from Waitrose, whose magazine has actually been doing better since they took her on. What happened was that about the time they first hired her, they stopped using Delia Smith in their advertisements. It was erroneously reported that “Delia was dropped for Pippa”, which produced the usual outrage.

Now Waitrose has hired Delia, not for a column, she herself has stated she never wrote a column, but for a video cooking course. So now everyone is reporting “Pippa was dropped for Delia”, which produces delight, even though it is not true.

She now has a new gig as well – regular columns for the Telegraph, to join the Spectator and Vanity Fair.

      • Florc says:

        Justme
I knew waitrose had a flash in the pan boost from the Pippa hiring, but are they still holding there?

IMO it seems Pippa will boost whatever she writes for because it’s hilarious. Doesn’t mean she’s bringing quality. Just more readers. Win/Lose for Waitrose.

      • Justme says:

As far as has been reported the sales of the Waitrose mag are up and continue to be so. Hiring Pippa right now gets magazines a lot of free press. Every time she publishes an article there are 7 articles discussing it and hundreds of tweets. Even if more than half the commentary is dismissive, it still creates buzz. And that’s what the publishing industry wants from her. I hope she is saving her money from all this cashing in. It won’t last of course, but how long have people been saying that about her and her 15 minutes are not yet up!

      • Florc says:

        Justme
Pippa’s 15 are winding down. Just like Paris Hilton’s 15. Because we paid attention it felt like forever. Pippa is not hired for her skills. It is great press. You’re very right.

  18. MacScore says:

Pippa’s dress is vile. Hideous colour and style – old-fashioned and boring. The blonde in the off-white coat in the picture with Harry looked good. As does Harry – always.

  19. Carry says:

Pippa looks good every thing a little to matchy matchy but the dress looks fine.

Harry looks a mess his pants are not only ill fitted but wrinkled, he just looks unwashed.

  20. MissNostalgia says:

Pippa…more fug; anyway, she is in good company, because most of the women that I can see in the photos here are all dressed fugly…British aristocrat fug. She has a good figure, so I cannot understand why some stylist does not get a hold of her and dress her to her best advantage.

  21. Faithmobile says:

I love this wedding gown, the current sleavless style of American gowns and so tired. If Pippa had worn a purple hat or shoes it could have made the peacock theme of the dress pop instead of a matchy match bore.

    • ncboudicca says:

I like it, too. I wonder if it’s new or if someone else in her family wore it before her. it reminds me of my mother’s gown, and she was married in the mid-60s.

  22. lisa says:

    one long scroll of fug

they could have done the whole thing for 10 dollars and not looked any worse

  23. Decloo says:

    SACRE BLEU!

  24. Gistine says:

I wish people would stop trying to make her happen. She’s unattractive and famous because of her sister. Her writing for Vanity Fair is the last straw! LAME!!

  25. Deedee says:

When attending a wedding, choose your outfit carefully. White is an excellent choice, especially if you are the bride. #pippatips

  26. mslewis says:

I love English weddings, especially in the country. The bride looks lovely and the dress is fine but does not look nearly as nice as Kate’s wedding dress.

I also think Pippa looks nice. Her peacock-colored dress and hat are lovely. She looks just fine for a country wedding.

I don’t know why Kate is not there but I would imagine she’s tired and didn’t want to leave the baby for yet another wedding. Saying these people don’t like her is ridiculous. Why wouldn’t they like her? She is the future Queen-Consort. The same with Pippa. She doesn’t just show up at these weddings without an invite and she would only get an invite if she was liked by the Bride and/or Groom. Both Kate and Pippa are and always have been in with this aristo crowd. They are not outsiders.

    • LAK says:

Kate was papped shopping in London whilst this wedding was taking place. Holding several shopping bags, so it wasn’t a quick dash to the shops for a little something.

Since groom gave a bestman speech at the royal wedding, it’s strange that she didn’t attend this wedding, especially when she chose to spend the time shopping….something she does on a regular basis such that it can’t be used as an excuse.

      • kathleen says:

Lak – where did you see the pap shots — these non-sanctioned by the rf “candid” shots are always way more interesting if you ask me. I’m not very good at knowing where to look.

      • Sachi says:

        kathleen – http://25.media.tumblr.com/61025932b4138a0f43855ced64b32137/tumblr_mt4ftcpiDD1rfi4ydo1_500.jpg

The latest shopping photo wasn’t by a pap, notice there is no watermark anywhere. It was by a customer at Peter Jones. It was only of Kate’s back, like most shots of her taken by random people around London. The big man behind her must be one of her protection officers.

Her security people threaten anyone who whips out a camera when they spot Kate and drive people away from the precious Duchess, lest she smell the stench of the peasants. You can only get a photo of Kate when she’s walking away and her goons aren’t aware. Most people just pass her by, not recognizing her and not caring enough.

      • LAK says:

Kathleen: whenever there is royal news, best place to start is the Middleton pap’s twitter feed. He can’t help but mention/confirm twitter pics of Kate or even boast about his own exclusives of her or the royals.

From there, a search on any of the dedicated royal fan blogs. They tend to collect any and all mentions of Kate across all media.

Good ones on either side of the Kate divide are Royaldish.com and HrhduchessKate.com

Word of caution, both blogs are on the extreme end of feeling for Kate, which is reflected in the comments. Best to look at pics/videos and ignore the comments.

      • LAK says:

Sachi – the way the royal guards operate is exactly how they should operate. It’s less about censorship and more about zero tolerance of any harassment of their charge and making sure no one is photographing / filming their charges. And that’s before you factor in the press bans. It’s the only reason you don’t have many pics of the royals in general.

That’s the mistake Diana made in removing her royal guards and refusing to have them reinstated even when the harassment became intolerable.

I always wince when I see how hollywood/wealthy types are guarded because a lot of times they are sloppy and allow their charges too close to the people harassing them.

      • kathleen says:

Lak & Sachi thanks for the info & link! Lak, at the risk of sounding “thick as a brick” who/where is the Middleton pap? Do you have a link?

      • Sachi says:

LAK – I think you have a good point re: royal protection.

But I also don’t see the problem with snapping one photo. The other royals outside of the UK often have random photos taken by the public when they’re out and about. Methinks it’s more about keeping Kate’s shopping on the down low than it is about making sure she is 100% protected.

If it’s a photo-op with a pap that Kate or the Middletons personally called, they always have a vantage point of view and the security officers don’t come rushing to snatch the cameras, ie. the grocery trips to Tesco meant to sell another PR stunt.

      • LAK says:

Sachi : having said all I did above, I also agree with your point because Harry is very relaxed about the public taking pics of him on camera phones, whereas Kate only seems relaxed when it’s a prearranged photo op with their a pap. And more importantly, there is never an outcry about press/pap intrusion.

Kathleen: for some reason, i’m unable to paste the appropriate link. Google Twitter/ikon pictures/ niraj tanna. For the record, every picture in the media with an ikon pictures watermark or copyright is an exclusive and pre-arranged.

    • Florc says:

Kate was seen as an outsider even when she dated William. They’re wealthy, but not Aristos. It was often said how William and his friends (even Harry) would make fun of Kate and her family. Just because Kate will be Queen Consort some day should a divorce not occur does not mean these people would automatically like her. If this statement is not true i’d imagine we’d see more of Kate hanging out with friends. Not just Carole, Pippa, and her female personal shoppers and body guards who are paid to be there

      • emmie_a says:

I agree Florc. And I thought the original comment about people liking her because she’s the future queen was strange — Why would people automatically like her just because she might be Queen Consort someday??

    • Lisa says:

Too tired to attend the wedding of the man who gave the best man speech at her wedding and was very kind to her after the break up? I know it’s six weeks after giving birth but that’s about the time many women are returning to full time work with 1/100th of the help Kate has, not to mention looking after other children, taking care of their homes, etc. That poor girl must have seriously low tone/low energy. Poor thing.

      • Green Girl says:

Oooh, I didn’t know that connection! That’s what makes it even worse that she was a no-show, especially as I think she’d originally agreed to come? It’s not like these two have a lack of hired help where Kate couldn’t get away for a few hours, even to just attend the ceremony or something.

      • emmie_a says:

Well and I don’t think she can use the birth as an official excuse anymore, especially after she made the front pages with her sparkly gown at the charity event. I guess she had to catch up on her shopping. There is always time to shop!

    • Thinker says:

Where I come from its extremely unusual for a husband or a wife to attend a wedding without their partner. Honestly, it’s totally unheard of unless one spouse is out of the country or there are unforeseen extenuating circumstances.

Kate got a pass on the nuptials she skipped in June, because most people consider late stage pregnancy to be an extenuating circumstance (even though Kate was still a month from delivery.) Now six weeks postpartum, with nannies and family help, it’s very strange to me that she would not attend a wedding of mutual friends.

I don’t think it’s an unreasonable conclusion to draw that either a) William did not want her there, or b) The couple are not really mutual friends, they are exclusively William’s friends and Kate would be uncomfortable.

      • Green Girl says:

It’s so odd! If it’s A, in Kate’s shoes wouldn’t you want to know why your husband didn’t want you to attend a friend’s wedding?!?

And if it’s B, then Kate needs to buck up and show up in the future. I am sure she could mingle with other guests, even if she doesn’t know them. I’ve attended weddings as a date where I didn’t know a soul, so it can be done.

      • littlestar says:

Same, where I come from (or at least in my “social circles”), it’s very strange to attend a wedding without your spouse. Unless there’s a very good reason to not attend. I’m really curious now why Kate didn’t attend this wedding………

  27. Meg says:

    love pippas peacock feathered heat

  28. Meg says:

    love pippa’s peacock feather hat

  29. stinky says:

that hat is the bomb! so cool…LOVE it.

  30. Yes, I'm That Leah says:

Why does Pippa look so old?

  31. Louise says:

Harry walked into the church with the whole Craig family except Jecca, who was taking care of the children, the blonde is Jecca’s sister-in-law. Cressida couldn’t attend because she was at a charity event with her brother. William and Olivia were together for quite a long time, she dumped him reportedly because of his wondering eye. People change the story to make it look like William begin to go out with Kate because of that “fashion show”, but actually they weren’t together until the final year of university.

    • Thinker says:

      Ding, ding, ding.

      Olivia Hunt!

I knew I recognized that pretty blonde from somewhere.

    • bloop says:

Can you imagine being around your husband’s exes all the time as his wife? William has so many. That would be hell for me. LOL

      • Green Is Good says:

Why. You’re the WIFE. You got the man and the ring. Rub it in those bitchez faces. LOL!

      • Kitten Mittens says:

        Green Is Good
William has a history of cheating. If I married a man that took many extended vacations without me, had a wandering eye, and had ex’s that were far more accomplished than I, I’d be worried. In past gatherings William pays very little attention to Kate in groups so her asking him not be affectionate to her to show his ex’s is very unlikely.

    • Bridget says:

While I think the ”fashion show” stuff is bunk too, they definitely were together before the last year – they lived together for a good couple of years at university, first in a house with a couple others, then on their own. Though there was probably a breakup somewhere in between there.

  32. janie says:

Pippa is nothing but a Royal wannabe! Why she is photographed or talked about it beyond me. This girl has a book out (failed miserably) telling people how to make toast? Enough said.

  33. IceQueen says:

Going to weddings all the time to me is so boring. Once or twice a year-sure, all the time-no. Pippa has a nice dress but she kinda looks “flat”, like she’s lost weight or something. Or is it the dress?

  34. Bridget says:

Until she got pregnant, Kate didnt usually miss the fun stuff (and that includes weddings). I would hazard a guess that pregnancy and postpartum were pretty hard on her – and not in an ‘army of nannies’ kind of way.

  35. taxi says:

The bride’s dress is very boring…and shows off the sun damage to her chest. A higher neckline would have been much better.

Her bouquet is lovely and judging from the grin, she’s happy and got the man she wanted.

  36. SummerRose says:

It’s taken me awhile, but I actually don’t mind the pipps. You never really “hear” anything out of her except her insipid prose — but then again, wasn’t she TOLD she had to be milquetoast? I sense a sassy, feisty soul that has to keep it under wraps for her sister’s sake. She gets invited to ALL the weddings. Doesn’t that mean people enjoy her? Isn’t it a subtle signal that people actually like her and not the princess one? I’m sorry, but it’s starting to become shady that Kate never, ever does anything but official engagements. Shay-DE!
