Here are some photos from Variety’s 5th Annual Power of Women event, which was held Friday evening in Beverly Hills. Variety got a pretty good turnout this year – sometimes these specialty “Women In Film” events are a who’s who of C-listers, basically anyone who wants to put on a dress and get a free cocktail, but Variety managed to get some A-listers. A-listers like Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman, who posed together on the red carpet.
Nicole wore a Fall 2013 L’Wren Scott – I’m okay with it. I don’t love it. And I usually love L’Wren. The buttons are rather ridiculous and the gold collar looks like cheap lamé. As for Charlize, she wore a white Stella McCartney dress, one of the better pieces I’ve seen from Stella. But quite honestly, this is a boring sack mini-dress and it’s CHARLIZE who makes it interesting because she’s Charlize and she has a killer body. Also, that collar thing was covering up a nasty injury on her neck, apparently. It looks like she got at least a dozen stitches on her neck. What’s that about? Oh, I see – this article explains it. She had surgery for a broken vertebra. They had to go in through her neck!!
Jessica Alba in Christian Dior. She looks fantastic. Great dress, great hair, great skin, cute shoes too.
I like the idea of Maria Bello’s leather pants and white blouse (is it a men’s shirt?), but it seems sort of like she’s trying to be Sharon Stone, right?
Kerry Washington in a Vince Camuto cocktail dress. Very cute. She should have worn more cute cocktail dresses when she was promoting Scandal last week.
Elizabeth Banks in Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2013. It’s not bad, but I think it would have been sexier AND more professional if it was all one piece.
I saw a photo of Jennifer Hudson in casual clothes a few days ago, and I was struck by how she looked like she had lost even more weight. But in this Yigal Azrouël Fall 2013… maybe not? She looks same-ish. That’s a great dress/suit too. This might be the best she’s looked in years.

Also, why is Nicole dressing so poorly as of late? She could look so fierce… She needs a new stylist.

I find it bizarre anyone would even think to COMPARE Melanie Griffith — I mean, Nicole Kidman — to CHARLIZE!
Charlize looks gangbusters, but it’s bc SHE is so gorgeous. I think she could have done something more interesting with that look. Nicole…poor, dear Nicole. SHE is gorgeous, with a great body, and I just dont understand why she chooses to torture herself sartorially. Alba looks 18.
Charlize’s outfit is certainly better than Kidman’s, but that’s not saying all that much. I would have chosen something a little less … bag-like.
Can you believe that someone is getting paid to do such a bad job as her stylist?
Nicole is wearing a L’Wren Scott dress. L’Wren also works as Nicole’s stylist, which is why Nicole constantly wears her clothes, even when they’re mediocre.
Jeez, Charlize just had a very scary surgery-anything involving the vertebra-hey, spinal cord close by!-is very risky. Give her a break.

Right?! I mean there’s no contest here. Charlize is a natural beauty and Nicole is a plastic version of her former (beautiful) self.
Side note: I saw a profile view of Nicole at this event and it was part scary, part awful. I wish she would stop messing with her face already.

I’m obviously in the minority here (or probably even the ONLY one so far), but I really like Nicole’s dress, and I don’t find the golden parts tacky at all. I also like Charlize’s dress, but I’ve seen too many white dresses these days — here you have both Charlize and Jennifer Hudson. Out of the photos posted, my favorite is Kerry Washington’s.
I like Nicole’s dress too. Then again I tend to like anything shiny and/or gold.
Charlize looks amazing too, but she looks amazing in spite of that hideous dress, not because it’s doing anything for her. I do love her shoes!

No one should ever stand next to Charlize Theron. Talk about a classic beauty. Even in candids she makes jeans and a t-shirt look like the most glamorous things in the world. Kidman looks scary. Theron looks classy.
Yes, Maria Bello has lost weight and her characteristic wavy blonde hair is pulled back, so it really doesn’t resemble her. I’ve always liked her.

Kerry Washington’s dress looks like it’s made out of Nicole’s dress buttons. The dress makes KW look a bit thick waisted (which she isn’t), I think perhaps a few more inches on the length, a slightly lower neckline and a black belt would have made it look a whole lot better!
Charlize. she is just a beautiful woman. i dont knoe of anyonr who wouldnt agree. I am not partial to the short hair though. I think Nicole looks like a creepy doll. she is just very odd looking, and large forehead and something with her eyes. no softness anymore.
