China’s film industry is booming. Sort of. No, it is. I’m comfortable saying that. China wants to be in direct competition with Bollywood and Hollywood. China wants movie stars – they want their own movie stars and they want Western movie stars too. And considering China’s emergence as a massive market for Hollywood (and the fashion industry, etc), Hollywood stars are taking the trek to China more and more often. For example, over the weekend, Hollywood types mingled with the glitterati of China at the 10th Huading Awards held in Macao, China. I’m splitting up the photos into two posts!
In these photos, you can see the big “gets” of the evening, Nicole Kidman and Jackie Chan. It was sort of like Jackie was Nicole’s escort, which is kind of sweet and kind of bizarre. The Huading Awards are supposed to be like the equivalent of the Oscars, only the awards go to not just movies but music and sports figures too. So… it’s probably more like the Brit Awards, I’m thinking.
For the big show, Nicole wore this black silk Prada gown which… it’s a very striking gown. I would have liked it more if it was just a solid black gown with that crazy/incredible halter, and then maybe a thick wrap with black silk on one side and the orange blossom fabric on the other side? That would have amazing. As it is, Nicole has got some weird little wrist things and the dress just seems at odds with itself. Also: For the love of God, Nicole got some extra Botox on top of her normal stuff, so she looks extra-waxy and frozen here. And her bolt-ons are incredibly noticeable in this dress.

Agreed. She did that movie years ago with Joaquin Phoenix (To Die For) and she had the most beautiful, delicate features. Every time I see her bizarre lips I wonder about the awful things she must tell herself to do so much “fixing”.

It’s a stunning dress. I honestly think she looks more like her former self in these photos than she has in quite a long time. She’s lost the slug-lip and the weird puffiness her face had for a while.

Does anyone else see the dress as not particularly flattering? It does nothing for her waist. Also, as gorgeous as she is, I don’t see her as one with an abundance of sex appeal. She’s the pretty chaste China doll, like AnnE Hathaway.
I agree that she lacks the the natural vivaciousness and sensuality that translates to sex appeal. But IMO, it’s a testament to her brilliance as an actress that she’s still able to bring a level of sexiness to a role when it’s required of her.
But I agree that as a person, there is an antiseptic quality to her that reminds me of Portman a little bit.

I love the cut of the gown. I will need to think about the orange blossom fabric some. I don’t think I will warm to the armlets.
It strikes me to know that a woman with that immense beauty feels insecure enough to stoop so low and get plastic surgery that has completely ruined her features. Nicole would have been such a beautiful 40 something year old, i loved her old face and hair.
I looooove Jackie Chan!He is one of those naturally kind men and you can clearly see it in his face. He has gotten a little old but he is still a legend to me and funny as hell.As for Nicole, I cant anymore…

He is a dedicated actor, beloved around the world for his martial arts skill, comedic timing, and graciousness to his fans. I honestly don’t know how he endures his daily aches and pains from years of doing his own stunt work. Looking good, Mr. Chan…Looking Good!
She looks too old for that dress [3rd photo down]. Anyway, a woman of her stature/figure doesn’t need to reveal her flesh to look good and in so doing, only emphasises insecurities.

Prada, by what I see in their boutiques, has become a label for rich bratty teenagers.

Why does she look like she keeps her face and hair in a ziplock bag til its party time? i think they call it “doll face” and it has something to do with injections- fill me in if im wrong ( no pun intended) that dress was really not suited for her.

I will never ever understand why Nicole went down the plastic surgery route.
I understand the hollywood pressure to do it, BUT her dive into the plastic pool is closer to a desperate Z-lister with no options than someone who is actively working and is respected enough for her natural face/body to be accepted.
She’s not someone who took forever to make it, nor has she ever needed to maintain her level of visibility. She probably worked LESS during her TC years which we can blame on TC and his need to have a low key stay at home wife.
It would have been understandable (not really) if she had altered her face/body during or immediately after that debacle, but she started doing it at the height of her artistic/celebrity achievement.

Despite all the botox (and who knows what else!), I think she looks absolutely gorgeous here. I don’t think her boobs look bolt-on-y, and the dress against her alabaster skin is incredible. I love it.
That said, I so miss old Nicole. She was stunning in Moulin Rouge. I’m trying to think back and remember if that was the last movie she was in where she still looked like original Nicole. I think it might have been.
Would love the dress were it not in Halloween colors. And she is about half-a-surgery away from looking like Melanie Griffith.
She looks like a beautiful vampire. The lengths some people go to in order to stay young! I can’t stand blood and pain so I would never willingly pay someone to cut up my face and body even if they promised I’d look ten years younger after the surgery.

She still looks stiff, but more of her former self than in previous years. That being said.. The dress is ok, no wow factor as I have never been a fan of that color combo.. Something a little more flattering in colors that suited her more & would have been perfect.

I think the dresss would look better withough the stomach cutout.
