It was just three weeks ago when we heard that Julianne Hough had set up her BFF Nina Dobrev with her brother Derek Hough. Derek was allegedly Nina’s first relationship since Nina and Ian Somerhalder called it quits a few months ago, and the tabloids claimed that Derek and Nina were getting super-serious very quickly. Well, that’s over. Ah, young love. One minute you’re declaring your undying love for someone on Dancing With the Stars, the next minute you’re leaking news of your breakup to Us Weekly.
Derek Hough’s dance card is once again open. A little less than two weeks after their first public date, the Dancing With the Stars pro and girlfriend Nina Dobrev have split, sources reveal in the new issue of Us Weekly.
The couple of six weeks — who hit up Universal Studios’ Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights in L.A. on Oct. 5 — decided recently that the relationship had “played itself out,” one insider tells Us. Geography was a factor, too: Hough, 28, is filming DWTS in L.A., while Dobrev, 24, is shooting The Vampire Diaries in Atlanta, Ga.
“The distance was too much to handle,” a pal says of the pair.
Us Weekly first exclusively revealed that the two were dating in late September. “[Nina] was hanging a lot with Derek’s sister Julianne,” a source told Us at the time. “Then she fell for him.”
And he for her. “Derek is smitten with Nina,” the insider added. “He said he hasn’t felt this way for a girl in a long time…Everyone approves!”
Alas, the relationship seems to have run its course. But Dobrev’s friendship with Julianne is still intact. “Julianne understands — there are no hard feelings,” another source tells Us of the Safe Haven star and the CW actress, who split from costar Ian Somerhalder in May after three years of dating.
I didn’t realize until just this moment that Vampire Diaries films in Atlanta. Sup, ATL? Got some vampires up in herre. So that goes a long way to explaining why Ian and Nina are still tangled up in each other’s lives – not only do they film a show together, but they’re on location for more than half of the year. Makes sense. Anyway, I don’t really care about VD or Ian and Nina as a couple, but I my guess is that there will probably be another reunion for them. And then another breakup. They’ll probably do this a few more times. As for Derek… dude, I don’t even know what to say. Good luck.

Hope so, they are cute. She’s still pretty young though, I would understand if she needs time to make experiences. You start to settle with 24, at least I did, but she was with him since she was 21, didn’t she? There’s so much change when you’re 20 or 21 years old.
it’s really awkward to watch TVD season 5 now! didn’t they start filming season 5 after their break up? and in the show, — a little spoiler..? — she and damon are being all lovey dovey right now. i mean they all are professionals ! but i can’t imagine filming those scenes with my ex. o_o

Nope you are all wrong. They film in Decatur. They got arrested traveling up I75 in Forsyth GA, not far from where I live!
They film to the east of ATL. If you’re driving from I-20 into Atlanta from say Conyers, then you can see a sign that says ‘Mystic Grill’ from the highway.

Me too, I think it’s near South Ga where they film? (or maybe I’m confusing with Walking Dead) Remember a couple of years back when they got in trouble for taking photos on the interstate overpass? I think it’s somewhere near there.
The traffic incident was in Forsyth the town (not county), but they don’t film there. I think they were just on a road trip.
Athens, but it’s better to visit ATL and then go back to peace and quiet. Until Elba comes back… and then back to stalking mode.
It was Ian’s side of the story that he was still in love with Nina and wanted to marry her, but she felt she was too young to get engaged so they’re more on a break. I don’t watch the show anymore, but they’re a cute couple. And as long as they’re still spending massive amounts of time together on set and filming steamy scenes together that spark they have won’t die out that quickly if at all.
I don’t see anything wrong with a long engagement in that case. I mean, if she loves him, and wants to be with him, why not get engaged? If you don’t make it down the aisle, you don’t make it down the aisle. But I guess at the same time if you’re in love and happy why push an engagement.
I don’t know -they’re a gorgeous couple and seem to really be great for eachother. It’s a shame that they broke up.
Because an engagement is super serious, and much harder to break off than a normal dating relationship. It’s not freedom in any way.
She was incredibly young when they got together; she does need time on her own and dating freely without the strings of such a massive commitment. If they eventually end up wanting to marry, it will be a far better marriage because she will be less likely to feel she made a choice at 21 and is now trapped by it. And if not, then it’s even better that she broke it off, because it was not meant to be.
They (Ian & Nina) had a really hot scene together last week, maybe you are right.
Question: Is it really considered breaking up when you’ve been dating for only a month? I mean, are you boyfriend-girlfriend (or bf-bf, or gf-gf) after only a month?
No shade, just wondering. I wondered the same thing when Penny and Superman (forgot their real names)stopped seeing each other and you had those break up headlines.
If so, I guess I’ve had more boyfriends than I thought, lol.
I think some of them just run to the media with news of anyone they go on a date with. A month or a few weeks is not a relationship its just a succession of dates. You can tell that the ones who want to keep things private can do that for some time. So i think these kind of short “relationships” that are announced in this way is just put out there for publicity. Kerry Washintong got married and no one even knew she was dating she had a boyfriend prior to that.
I love Ian and Nina together. They’ve always had chemistry on VD. CDAN always hints that Derek and his sis are super bad news.

This is without surprise. This whole relationship seemed like a PR fiasco from the get-go. It seems awkward to me to be in bed with the brother of your best friend.
I don’t get the Hough’s, it’s not normal to be by your sister’s side ALL THE TIME….it’s freaky. Every party and every photo. Does he have friends outside of the girls club? It will be awks between Nina and them now for sure. Bad move dating your BFFs brother. Anyway, I also don’t understand people wanting Nian back together cuz that shows no respect to Ian. He is NO backup plan now Nina doesn’t want Derek Hough’s D anymore. Remember she didn’t want Ian either.
