Princess Eugenie is a real New Yorker now: ‘She enjoys walking to work every day’

FFN_Princess_Eugenie_AAR_102913_51246525

Here are some nice photos of our newest English import, Princess Eugenie of York. Eugenie moved to Manhattan a few months ago to work full-time for the auction house Paddle8. Paparazzi have been getting near-daily sightings of Eugenie as she walks to work, walks back home, or walks to lunch. I think these photos are from her lunch run yesterday. According to Us Weekly, Eugenie “enjoys walking to work every day” and “she loves New York.” I’m not seeing any security guys around her – I wonder if she had many bodyguards at all these days?

Anyway, I like this girl. She’s 23 years old, she has a university education and she wasn’t afraid of fleeing the royal nest to build a life for herself in NYC, however temporary this job may be. I don’t even really know what she’s doing at Paddle8 – methinks it could be a glorified assistant’s job, but maybe it’s a real position with some power. Whatever she’s doing, I hope she’s making new friends and expanding her worldview. It’s nice to see a princess with some semblance of a career and the boldness to dare to move to a new city (as opposed to a girl who just clings and waitys and plants stories in the press about how wronged she is).

Us Weekly says that Eugenie has moved into an apartment and both of her parents have already come to visit her and take her out to eat and for some shopping excursions. Us Weekly also says that Eugenie’s bartender boyfriend Jack Brooksbank is still in London, but he plans to visit her often.

Also: I love that she’s already adopting the all-black uniform of New Yorkers. York Princess in New York. I love it. If I was in her position – a blood princess who would never have any real power or influence in the royal family – I would hope that I would be this cool.

Don’t know a whole lot about her, but she seems very sweet to me. I like her too.

    • T.C. says:

I already like her for moving away from home with a job, living on her own .

      • bluhare says:

Me too. Perhaps, unlike her father, she’s accepted that Charles is going to cut them off. He’s said they should get jobs, so good for her for doing so.

And Beatrice and Eugenie don’t have security any more.

  2. DanaG says:

She makes up for her lazy sister Beatrice who quit her job because it interferred with all her holidays ( she was there about 6 months but if you minus all the time she had off it worked out to be 4 months at the most) . Beatrice makes Kate look like a hardworker. Bea has waited nearly 7 years and still no proposal from her rich boyfriend she could beat out Waity if she doesn’t do something soon. Eugenie has always come across as the most level headed of the two and it’s good to see her out on her own and actually trying to get a career off the ground.

    • lauren says:

But the main reason for Kates waiting was to become a royal, whereas Beatrice is a born royal

I hope Euginie is really working, meeting new people and just have a somewhat “real” experience / life outside the royal family

    • Sunny says:

Do you know how old Beatrice is? She´s 25 years old and has an university degree. Means it´s impossible for her to have a gigantic work history at this moment. Some people talk as if Beatrice is jobless for 10 years. She´s not the same age as her cousins William or Zara.
Beatrice is still working for a finance firm in London. Do you know her work schedule? You see two photos of her on a yacht and she is lazy for you? Everybody has the right to go on vacation with friends. She´s active in charity and works because she wants to. She doesn´t need the money. Beatrice is a privileged 25 years old blood Princess. No need for waitying.
Beatrice did more work with her 25 years than Kate with her 31.

    • Kitten Mittens says:

      DanaG
Kate’s schedule is well covered in the press. Even if it’s simply a run to a bathroom. The press has shots. With all this she is still not seen “working” much at all. Thank goodness she has PR people to leak stories about how much she is working so we know that when we see her shopping she’s really working. Beatrice’s work is covered, but not always covered. She’s been steadily working with charities far more than Kate. She’s also much younger and has done more with her life in terms of career and charities.

DanaG. My question to you is where are you getting this information that Bea does nothing and quit her job for more vacations? And that Kate looks like a hard worker?

  3. MisJes says:

I LOVE that coat and those boots. Does anyone have an I.D. for them?

  4. Clever hand says:

    I love her outfit!

  5. j.eyre says:

I do love the York in New York part. Good for her, I hope this is a wonderful experience for her.

    • Anna says:

Except she should drop that hat, really.

Speaking of garments, dont even pretend that you mind having to wrangle all those pinafores, petticoats and peplums.

  6. QQ says:

Haha if the Top 8 rumor is true, Homegirl better get used to that working-being anonymous thing

  7. Silly says:

Bea is no waity , now that is a complete fabrication!
She’s already a princess ! Kate was waiting for the prize ,
The whole point of being a princess is that you are already a prize!

  8. Lilyvanilli says:

Has no one seen Gallery girls?

  9. bettyrose says:

Love the coat and hat. She looks completely different this side of the pond, like she’s transitioned from cartoonish royal to privileged private citizen with some dignity.

  10. hadleyb says:

Well, it’s good she is working but if it’s only temp why take away a job from someone who might really need it, will stay there a long while and be serious about it?

She never has to worry about paying rent, going without, worrying about being homeless, not eating or just making her bills barely with nothing left over every month . So I will never feel any of these royals are really ” independent”, and not getting special perks because of who they are and their connections. I’d rather see her be a Royal honestly.

Even if her parents are totally broke would the queen her her grandkids homeless? Honestly ?

    • Bodhi says:

I don’t really understand this argument. She shouldn’t work because she’ll never need to?

    • TRJ says:

How do you know the position itself isn’t temporary?

    • Obvious says:

If she was a “working royal” her expenses and such would be paid for, but I thought they were trying to cut down how many working royals they had-granted she and her sister made more appearances than Will and Kate…

Who knows maybe Eugenie will love having a real job and living in a semi anonymous state. I think I probably would if I had grownup in her position. Besides if the stories about Kate not getting along with the York girls are true, I’d find something to do far away, because eventually Kate will have them cut from the family in any way she can.

    • bluhare says:

No, she doesn’t. But she is not going to be like William and Kate who are able to live off being royal. Charles has already said he’s streamlining.

Obvious, I agree with you, but Kate’s going to have a tough time getting rid of Eugenie especially if Harry really is ready to pop the question to Cressida.

      • Roselia says:

Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie could well become the face of the modern monarchy, while people just put up with Will. Harry and Beatrice are already a breath of fresh air doing royal duties compared to Will and Kate.

I can see this very odd sort of relationship in the future where all of the young royals meet up for holidays, etc, much like now (though I assume with much less formality) while Bill goes off to Middleton Manor. Same with memorials, etc.

    • Decloo says:

she’s not taking a job away from someone else. She was hired to bring attention to Paddle 8.

  11. Feisty says:

I loathe the hat, and I’m a hat person who likes hats. It’s too small and looks like a little old lady hat

  12. Delta Juliet says:

How awesome must it be to live life and do what you want without struggling to pay bills? No shade here, I’m just thinking how much fun life would be to go someplace new, do a job you enjoy, and just live life without worrying about paying for heat and food. Looks like she’s happy!

  13. Reece says:

She looks great. Very happy and comfortable. I even loathe the booties less than I usually loathe booties.

Now of her, I admit, I am completely jealous. I LOVE New York!

  14. drea says:

You may not see them, but I’m sure she’s got quite a bit of security. No head of security worth his salary would let a known member of the royal family run around by herself. At the very least, she’s got one or two guys tailing her inconspicuously (so, y’know, she still feels free), and I wouldn’t be surprised if she has some sort of panic button and/or tracker on her phone.

By the way, her outfit is cute. If I were to design a costume for the movie character of an English princess hiding out in New York, it would look something like that.

    • LadySlippers says:

The Yorks’ and the Wessex’s all lost their Royal Protection Officers (RPOs) some time ago unless on official duty. The York Princesses have had their protection officers paid for by their father after they were stripped of them (since they are not members of the working Royal Family). And I think the Wessex’s also paid for their RPO’s out of pocket for non official duty (just don’t quote me on that).

However, it could be that it was deemed unnecessary in the US *or* another firm/agency has taken over in the States. Also, the Anne’s children get along fine w/o RPOs and they are just as public as Andrew’s children. So Eug might not have them here.

Bea had her job a lot longer than 8 months. And there are rumours Charles might add her to the list of working Royals as she has recently added more charities to her list (key word is rumour). Unlike Kate, Bea IS very active with her charities (as is Eug).

      • Roselia says:

I thought that the idea that Charles was streamlining the monarchy was born of a rumor and he was never actually quoted as saying such.

In any event, I don’t see how Beatrice and probably Eugenie won’t need to be added back into the royal fold. In 20 years’ time, when most like the old guard has passed/elderly, Will and Kate – those workhorses! – will need more than Harry /wife to help out. George and younger siblings/first cousins will still be in school (hopefully!) Look at the CC, and see that besides the Queen and DoE, they have not only four children and spouses doing engagements, but the Duke of Kent, DD Gloucester, Pss Alexandra. So I don’t see how Beatrice and Eugenie will be cut off unless they think Will’s such a ****** they will refuse.

      • The Original Mia says:

I’m sure Charles sees the writing on the wall if that Time interview was anything to go by. He knows the monarchy probably has a shelf life once the Queen dies. He knows his son & daughter-in-law aren’t going to do much in the way of royal duties. It makes sense to make Beatrice a working royal, since she already does more than both the Cambridges. And the Queen & Prince Phillip are obviously very fond of her. Win win situation for Charles.

      • drea says:

I would think her security is managed by a private firm or perhaps some kind of arrangement with the consulate. Even if the Brits aren’t worried, I think the Americans would’ve told them to keep an eye on her (imagine if anything happens while she’s on US soil). It’s just unlikely that someone like her would be left totally on her own in New York City. Maybe she doesn’t have a full detail, but I would bet she has at least one guy who looks out for her.

When I was in design school, I met someone who belongs to a royal family from Asia. She had a security detail, but they were very low-key. We didn’t even notice them until one night when she suddenly walked back to some guy to ask for an extra battery for her mobile phone. SO weird.

  15. Decloo says:

This girl needs to get some style if she’s going to be papped now. Terrible hat and coat, all of it. Doesn’t she have any sophisticated NY friends who could take her shopping? I think she’s great to break away and come to NYC. She’s doing what she was hired for, to put Paddle 8 on the map.

  16. Lucy says:

Lovely pictures, great style. And great for her! I hope she keeps doing as well as she seems to.

  17. anne_000 says:

I really like her coat. As another poster said, she’s born into a wealthy family who doesn’t need to go out into the real world and work, but I think it’s good for her that she has working experience amongst the rest of us. I respect her for that. And as another poster said, it’s also good publicity for her employer & thus not taking a job from somebody else who can’t bring this type of PR to the company. I think her working adds to her character. If she was one of those lazy, partying rich girls, I wouldn’t have any respect for her at all. But she seems to have more sense of work-pride than some other members of her extended family so I have to give her props for that.

  18. Shannon1972 says:

Welcome to New York!! I’m sure we can manage to absorb another royal here. 🙂

  19. Amy says:

Maybe she can become friends with the Swedish princess who just got married I forget her name. I work in NYC so I will stay on the look out for her (though I doubt I will run into her!)

    • Florc says:

I’ll be on the lookout for Madeleine and Eugenie when i’m in NYC for fun this weekend. Unlikely i’ll see them, or even remember to look while dodging cars, looking for walk signals, and navigating the scaffolding corridors. Even less so after we hit McSorleys. Side thought. I would love to meet Eugenie in mcsorleys and let her talk my ear off.

  20. Carlye says:

Oh my, you’re right! The “all black uniform of New Yorkers” – I just went to NYC last month for the first time. I wore my normal clothes and it rained a bit, so one day on the subway I had on my running shoes (bright colors) navy yoga pants and a BRIGHT green/lime/blue slicker. I stood out like a sore thumb.

  21. Bridget says:

Great for her moving to a new city and having a job. But she’s not exactly curing cancer – she’s in a rich girl job. She’s got a job that’s based on her social connections, not on her skills. She’s one step above a ‘jewelry designer’.

  22. BackstageBitchy says:

Yay you are covering Eugenie! I finally have an excuse to share- have encountered this girl socially twice in 3 weeks and she is AWESOME. She is wry, funny, grounded, & Down -to-earth. She seems happy to be in New York living a “normal life”, she walks around with no security or even wingmen-or women. She is curious about the world around her and the people in it. She speaks fondly about her mom, her cousins, and also NYC. Good for her. I am FAR from a royal watcher, but this chick is very cool, sweet and real by most standards.

  23. kibbles says:

Eugenie is the type of modern working woman a lot of us were hoping William would marry. We all know Eugenie will never have to worry about money, but that is no excuse to be a lazy socialite waiting for a rich man to marry her. She’s enjoying life as she should and as anyone of us would if we had her wealth and freedom, but it is refreshing to see her attempting to live a somewhat normal life by waking up every morning to go to work rather than laying about in a palace and planning her next vacation on the beach with an aristocratic boyfriend. If Kate had spent her 20s doing this – something! – using her art degree to work at a gallery or auction house, she wouldn’t have received so much shade for waiting nearly a decade to get married.

  24. dena says:

Glad for her that she decided to move away from home and to pursue a career she likes. If she only stay 3 – 6 months, she’s now done something that the other royals haven’t done. So, she is a pioneer with this move. Too bad that with the economy like it is most college grads (and established adults) can’t afford to do what she’s done.
