Drew Barrymore is pregnant again, 13 months after giving birth to daughter Olive

Does this news make me feel like a bitch for making fun of Drew Barrymore’s muumuu over the weekend? Not really. Drew is pregnant with her second baby (just 13 months after giving birth to Olive), and while I’m assuming the muumuu was supposed to be some sort of bump-camouflage, it still sucks and I still expect more from Drew’s style choices. Anyway, yes, Drew is pregnant again. I feel like all of us were predicting this, right? That she was going to get knocked up again pretty quickly?

Olive Barrymore Kopelman is going to be a big sister! The Hollywood tot’s famous mom, Drew Barrymore, is pregnant again, multiple sources confirm to Us Weekly. The baby-to-be is the second for the actress-producer, 38, and husband Will Kopelman, whose daughter Olive is just 13 months old.

Although Barrymore’s rep has not replied to requests for comment, there was ample evidence over the weekend: The former child star was among the attendees at the LACMA Art+Film Gala honoring Martin Scorcese and David Hockney on Saturday, Nov. 2, and Barrymore’s long, flowing dress seemed to strategically designed to conceal a burgeoning bump. (The Big Miracle actress was also spotted with an expanding belly in casual clothes over the weekend.)

The speedy second pregnancy shouldn’t come as a huge surprise: Just last month, she told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show that she “very much” wanted to have another child and get pregnant “right away.” Barrymore, who wed art consultant Kopelman in June 2012, explained: “I grew up as an only child, and although that really works for some people and for some parents that’s the way they want to do it.”

The Flower Cosmetics founder’s inspiration? The Griswolds of the National Lampoon Vacation flicks. “I want the kids in the back rolling their eyes at mom and dad. I want Rusty and Audrey, theme parks and the whole nine.”

[From Us Weekly]

While the whole “Drew Barrymore As Chic Earth Mother” shtick irritates me, I do have to say that I think Drew is probably the happiest she’s been in a while, and motherhood agrees with her. She’s a good mom, I believe, and she seems determined to not be like her mother whatsoever, which is a good thing. Now, all that being said, I’ve been paying attention to Drew for so many years, I recognize when she’s in the midst of one of her phases. This “new Drew” is a phase that she will outgrow in a few years. I’m not saying motherhood is a phase – not at all. I’m saying that this whole, “marrying into Old Money, attending high-class art galas and elite charity events while clad in Vivienne Westwood muumuus” thing is a phase. A phase that will pass in a few years.

    congrats to them

Well, it IS an ugly mu-mu and it DOES look like she swiped a bedspread from the bargain table at Bed Bath & Beyond to make it with, so no, no you are not bitchy to have slammed it. And those shoes? Please.

That aside, congratulations and all best wishes to Drew on the second child.

I’m having a baby girl any day now, and her name will be Olivia, called Olive a lot. So my tangentially-related on this is that I hope the celebrity baby Olives (Drew, Isla Fisher, more?) aren’t big enough names that people say, “oh, like Drew Barrymore’s daughter?”

Congrats to her, she does seem to have thrown herself right in there. I remember another article recently that talked about how she was dyeing her own wool baby leggings.

    • JenD says:

      Congratulations to you!

    • Dani2 says:

Congrats to you, and I’ve always thought Olivia was such a sweet name for a baby girl.

    • Zigggy says:

Congrats- love the name! I knew an Olivia in high school so that’s what I always think of, not Drew or Isla’s.

    • Gia says:

Congrats! I just had a baby boy a week ago and he’s amazing. 2nd boy, now my family is complete and tubes are tied! I digress…

My friend also named her daughter Olivia, and they call her ‘Liv’. It’s such a popular name right now (#1 on a lot of baby name sites) that I don’t think you need to worry about celebrity associations. An acquaintance named her daughter Demi…I mean, hello!?

    • wonderwoman21 says:

Congratulations! Olivia is a very beautiful name.

      • Falula says:

Thanks all! I’m only thinking of the association with celebs because she will be called Olive (which I love but it also partly to give her a respite from being 1 of a million Olivias her age).

  4. Dani2 says:

Congrats to her but is there something in the water lol? Two of my closest couple friends are expecting again after having a kid just over a year ago. Happy for them and Drew, kids are a blessing.

  5. Hannah says:

Congrats. Olive is so cute, no wonder they wanted more babies. And Drew’s not getting any younger. It all stands to reason.

  6. Nev says:

Congrats!!! Number One Hippy Chick Forever. Her and Lisa Bonet. Haha

  7. Anna says:

I knew she was pregnant the minute I saw that dress.

  8. Jules says:

It appears that she is wearing an ill-fitting painting.

  9. Sabrine says:

The muumuu is cute and Drew looks radiant and happy. No snark here, just wishing her and her lovely family much happiness!

  10. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’m happy for her. Dress was ugly, though, sorry.

  11. klutzy_girl says:

I figured out (along with a few others) that she was pregnant two months with the dresses she wore to stuff like the ballet gala. Congratulations to Drew! I really can’t wait to see what they name this baby.

  12. JLM says:

She’s older, so I don’t blame her for not waiting. As for her phases – I totally agree.

Her face looks beautiful in these photos – the best she’s ever looked.

  13. Cecilia says:

    Congrats Drew!!

At first glance, I didn’t even recognize her. She looks so different. She has that same super relaxed look to her face like Rene Z. has.

  14. SamiHami says:

I’ve always loved Drew. Hope she has another healthy and happy baby. She used to be so stylish, though…it seems since she got with her hubby her style has been awful. I understand that she is trying to be more conservative in her clothing, but that doesn’t mean she has to wear awful stuff like this!

Regardless, I still think she’s great!

  15. Peanut says:

Congrats to her, but am I the only one who think her face looks totally different?! I feel like I’m taking crazy pills here since nobody is commenting on it (I mentioned it yesterday too). Maybe it’s just a bit of extra weight making her look different? Or has she had something done?

    • pagirl says:

She totally looks different! I’m getting Adele vibes…

    • Happy21 says:

I was scrolling down to see if anyone else noticed. YES! I noticed and yes she looks TOTALLY different, it’s odd. I couldn’t necessarily call her out as to having work done to her face but she looks very different than the Drew I’ve watched since I was 5!

    • Pandy says:

I think she looks different as well and not very happy in that first pic. i have to agree with Kaiser – this is another phase. And this too, shall pass.

  16. Patricia says:

Love you, Drew! I’m so glad she is taking this time to create a nice big family and enjoy motherhood. I feel like I know her, grew up with her and always identified with her and now I am trying to get pregnant, too. Also I end up buying whatever cosmetics she is shilling, I can’t help myself. I just do whatever Drew says, lol!

  17. kct says:

She looks really good. I think the changes in her face are mostly maturity and being at peace with herself, not to mention that pregnancy glow. So happy for her!

  18. Mom says:

Drew has always been a free spirit regarding her fashion choices. She does not have a thick skin about it either.

Her face says it all. Congrats to all of them!

  19. tracking says:

    Aww, she looks radiant.

  20. Audrey says:

I hoped she was when I saw that “dress” on her

    Congrats to her

  21. lunchcoma says:

Not sure why there’s an emphasis on the timing. Having kids be two years apart is pretty normal, and at 38, Drew doesnt really have the luxury of stretching things out much longer without risking fertility issues. Anyway, best of luck to her.

  22. RobN says:

The kids will be nearly two years apart in age; that isn’t really strangely close. Maybe in Hollywood, but not in the real world, especially when you’re 38 and want more than one.

  23. Sarah says:

She’s a little older on the mommy spectrum (not by much so no attacks please) so I’m not surprised she’s pregnant again. I got pregnant with my second child right before my first turned one and i was in my early 30s. They’re 20 months apart but lots of womem have them about a year and a half apart. Congrats to her!

Ugh and I definitely started wearing the maternity clothes faster the second time 🙂

  25. Nicolette says:

Congrats to her! Her face looks different to me though, a bit of work maybe?

  26. Ag says:

    Whoa, that was fast. congrats!

  27. Lucybelle says:

Is 13 months really that quick to be pregnant again? That’s the exact same age difference of my two sisters. Two years apart seems pretty normal to me. My brother in law and his brother are only 11 months apart. Now THAT is what I call fast!

    • Suzy from Ontario says:

That the same time frame I got pregnant with my second child. I don’t think that’s unusual if you want them around two years apart. I mean you are pregnant for a while before the birth! Congrats to them. Love her shoes!

  28. judyjudy says:

    She looks gorgeous.

  29. TherapyCranes says:

I can’t imagine popping out one kid let alone another one right after it. Grats to her. It seems painful and exhausting to me.

  30. Kelly says:

Good for her. Just hoping she tones down the annoying mommy comments.
