Dear Tom Hiddleston: this is how you wear a motherf—king pimp coat. Actually, I don’t even know if we should consider Idris Elba’s magnificent blue coat a “pimp coat”. Sometimes a man just wants some color in his life, you know? I think Idris probably prides himself on his unconventional, rule-breaking style. Not many men could wear this coat with such panache and grace. Just think about how Hiddleston would look in this. Or Benedict Cumberbatch. Now think about Hiddleston, Cumberbatch and Idris without any coats. In your bed. With sex gloves.

Where was I? Hm… oh, yes… these are photos of Idris at last night’s Harper’s Bazaar UK Women of the Year event. Idris was there for the ladies! He was probably there to help celebrate his Long Walk To Freedom costar Naomie Harris, who plays Winnie Mandela in the film (I’m including a photo of Naomie at the end of the post!). Interestingly enough, I think Idris’s chances at a Best Actor Oscar nomination are getting smaller by the day. I haven’t heard anything bad about the movie or Idris’s performance, but people just aren’t saying it’s worthy of a nomination in this year’s crowded field. But! President Obama wants to see it:

President Obama will attend a screening of “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” in an early echo of last year’s Oscar race during which a number of movies were shown at the White House, adding to their prestige in the midst of awards season.

The Weinstein Co. said that the movie will screen at the White House on Nov. 7, with stars Idris Elba and Naomie Harris in attendance along with Mandela’s daughters Zindzi and Zenani. The movie premiered in Johannesburg on Sunday, with Mandela’s former wife Winnie in attendance.

“Knowing what a strong relationship President Obama has with President Mandela, it’s an honor for this film to be shown at the White House,” Harvey Weinstein said in a statement.

In last year’s Oscar race, the White House screened “Lincoln,” and held a special Q&A event for the movie “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” among other events. “Silver Linings Playbook” star Bradley Cooper and director David O. Russell met with Vice President Joseph Biden to talk about mental health issues. And Weinstein helped arrange for First Lady Michelle Obama to appear on the Oscar telecast to announce the winner for best picture.

I wonder if The Obamas are trying to promote certain kinds of serious films, or whether they’re pushing certain issues… or maybe they just like movies. Still, you never hear about Pres. Obama screening Thor 2: The Return of Loki’s Pimp Coat.
