Here are lots and lots of photos from this year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show, which did seem to have a “Britannia” theme (I was wondering why Taylor Swift wore the Union Jack). I’m not going to talk your ear off about this stuff, you just want to look at the models and the bizarre costumes that I guess are supposed to be sexy or whatever. So here are some general thoughts:
*Doutzen Kroes is always stunning and beautiful, and I would love to have her strong, fit-looking figure.
*Candice Swanepoel seems stunned to have Farrah Hair.
*Karlie Kloss is ALWAYS boring, even when she’s wearing psychedelic wings.
*Adriana Lima is like Sexy Stalin, I think.
*Kasia Struss (the model in the cop ensemble) is too thin.
*Devon Windsor isn’t pulling off the blonde hair OR the Freddie Mercury look.
*Lily Aldridge is a Tartan Dragon!
*Alessandra Ambrosio is not all that, right?
*Jordan Dunn’s peacock look is actually kind of cool.
*Behati Prinsloo has a bigger rack than I was expecting. Either that or the VS bra is really good.
*Erin Heatherton misses Leonardo. I can see it on her face.

Candice forever! She’s my ultimate girl crush and I’m so glad she got to wear the million dollar Fantasy Bra this year, she looks stunning in it!
Am I the only one who finds it odd that she didnt get wings to go with the bra? There is nothing about it to make the $1 million stand out, it looks pretty basic without any sort of decoration.
…in my mind, I like to think those wings are used to cover up any lumps or dimples. Of course, that’s just some wishful balm to soothe my ego 🙂
I find Candice so ordinary, her face is pretty, but a bit, as we say here, peasanty. Karlie is by far the most interesting one.

I agree. They are all soo skinny and if they appear that way in print they must really be skinny in person. I love Adriana Lima’s face but some of them don’t have a waist line. Doutzen is beautiful.
It took me a little bit to figure out what was wrong, but yeah, it’s the lack of a waist line that makes them look pretty strange. I know that’s sadly normal in fashion models but I thought lingerie was supposed to be a bit more hourglass?

Shut up, mark. Clearly most of them starved to look like that. Doutzen and Lily for example had more weight on back then and looked much better. The only one who looks healthy is Candice in my opinion. But has she had a boob job?
I don’t think Candice had a boob job, if you see her in a regular bikini they are wuite small, it’s just the VS push-up bras.

I remember seeing Karlie in last year’s VS Show and cringing. She is amazing for normal runway, but for VS she is terrible… no hips at all. And although I like Cara’s “rock” look in general, I don’t think she’s a fit for VS either…
It’s supposed to be fun and play and they’re trying to make it super high fashion, ugh.

I think it’s more like ‘all vsfs models look the same’.
It’s like when I go to an anime convention and wonder, “What new weird thing am I going to see?” when it comes to these costumes. It’s fabulous. Also I laugh because lol 38F, ain’t wearin’ none of y’all bras. Actually had a VS service person in HS sneer at me and say, “We don’t carry your size. Perhaps you should wear a suit to prom,” when I was looking for a bra for my prom dress. Haven’t been back since.

Years ago someone was mildly rude to me (and I’m no where near as large as 38F) because I’m super tall and none of their bras fit me –even with the straps lengthened to the max. Other tall women (6′ give or take a few inches) have also stated VS does not fit right. From that I gathered they catered to a VERY specific body type and didn’t deviate from that.
I don’t mind they cater to a specific body type — most companies do. Just be nice about it, ya know?
Their crappy lingerie sucks and falls apart. I’ve bought lovely sexy cotton lingerie in many other places that fits like it’s made for me, is so comfortable, wears for many years, holds up to repeated washings and isn’t scratchy, is absorbent in hot weather, is not in colors or styles that show right through your clothes (if you even wear this VS shite under clothes, doesn’t appear to be what it’s for), and did not cost me $$ to simply fall apart with a few washings.
All in all a serious impractical waste of cash and it’s all marketing hype. And don’t get me started on Agent Provocateur. And anything likeable about VS can easily be gotten elsewhere without paying for their pricey marketing and overdecorated stores.
Well, there is that too!
No matter what, if it’s uncomfortable, it’s hard to look or be sexy while wearing them. And if it’s falling apart at the seams — it’s even harder to look sexy! Lol
Morale of the story? Find things that make you feel sexy and comfortable in yourself. Preferably things you can afford and have lasting power.
These shows are amazing PR for VS. I went into a store and was shocked at how awful the lingerie is. It photographs better than it actually is. Cheap, tacky, poorly made and overpriced. The fragrances are sickly sweet too.
When the props (the wings, accessories and shoes) take the attention away from the lingerie you know something is up.
Ugh I hate hate hate that store. I’m Muslim and wear hijab and I went in there because I got a Gift card at my bridal shower. I was lookin for a little something for the wedding night, riiight? Well they completely ignored me. Totally. And they were helping other people who came after me. It wasn’t just they were busy or something. I had to basically do jumping jacks to get their attention.
Yeah I may dress modestly on the outside, but you have no idea what goes on underneath!! Their loss and I’ll never shop there again.
Seriously? I don’t get what’s with the mentality of the salespeople being snobs to those who they think can’t afford something (or in your case for religious/racial prejudice). Like with Oprah–the consensus was that all that salesperson saw was a large black woman, who evidentally didn’t look like she could afford that purse that she wanted to see. Who cares? You work there. I don’t care if the person comes in looking and smelling like they haven’t bathed in two weeks–if you want them to help you, then it’s their JOB to help you. No matter what–unless you’re being disruptive.
And you are a woman after my own heart–no idea what’s going on underneath. That made me chuckle. Hope you found something good at a different store for your husband.

You may have been ignored because of how you were dressed, but maybe not. I’ve been in various VS/Pink stores at various locations dressed about the same each time. It’s all on the season, who’s working the floor, and how good or bad their sales have been that month/quarter. They’ve ignored me too in some and jumped all over me in others.
If they were glancing and looking away at you i’d judge more, but this store experience sounds average for most. Just because you’re muslim does not make them think they can’t get a sale out of you. Money is money and you walked into their store.
Next time you feel ignored go up to someone on the floor. If they don’t help then it’s pure discrimination.
I’m Dutch and Doutzen Kroes has sort of become our national hero I believe, everybody loves her and considers her to be the epitome of beauty- which I can certainly understand, she has such as lovely smile and she seems to be a genuinely nice person.
But saying that she has a ‘strong, fit-looking figure’ is really stretching it IMO. She used to have a great, healthy and athletic look, but if I look at her now… she just looks very, very thin to me. Sorry, but being bone-thin does not equal ‘fit’ in my book. Same goes for most of the other ladies in these photos by the way, I’m just aiming at Doutzen cause I remember her in her ACTUAL strong and fit-looking days. Shame. But hey, maybe that’s just me.
Yup. Doutzen had a great fit shape when she first arrived on the VS scene. Apparently, the people at VS kept complaining about her being too wide in the hips. I think that’s why she lost way more weight than she needed to after she gave birth, in order to please the powers that be. I feel the same thing happened to Adriana.
I agree. The other models look like they’re naturally very thin – maybe not quite as skinny as they are now, but not far off. But you can tell just from looking at Doutzen’s face that she has lost a lot of weight – she looks almost gaunt. There’s nothing ‘fit and healthy’ about her body these days, and if I’m being honest, I don’t even think it’s attractive. All muscle and bone.
She looked gorgeous before! Now she looks like she never eats…too skinny in my opinion.

I think Adriana started to change drastically the moment she became head Angel. Her legs and waist got thinner, her boobs and cheekbones got bigger.
vS isn’t the nice employer they claim to be.
I think Doutzen looks like a cross between an angel and a princess – just beyond beautiful. I have never seen a bad picture of her and I’ve heard she’s just as breathtaking in person. ugh. not fair!
And while she does still have some muscle tone, she used to be healthier looking. She has definitely lost weight and lost her more athletic frame to fit in with all the other stick-thin models which is sort of sad because she always talks about not conforming to the size 0/sample size mind frame… So maybe she’s not a size 0 but a size 2.
A lot of the VS models seem to get thinner after they have children. My guess is that for some of them it’s the first time they have to really work out hard as well as watch their diet, and they keep it up even after they’ve lost all the weight.
Doutzen all day, everyday! Couldn’t care less about anyone else..
Now I see beauty when I look at most of these models. Great bodies and face. I don’t get Gisele’s appeal but she was packaged and marketed very well.
Lima and Doutzen are stunning. Don’t know who the caramel complextion hottie is in tbe pink but she is gorgeous. Can’t wait to see the show on TV.

That’s my problem too. All these women are gorgeous but only a few stood out.
The black girl is really pretty (I don’t think that’s Jordan Dunn) and so is Candice (though I don’t find anything unique about her, just hot in a typical blonde bombshell way). I wish many of the models selected had more of an interesting look to them.
The past couple of years all models seemed to wear the same wig/extensions so this year seems a little more variation thank goodness. In 2009 even alessandra was a blonde, so confusing, lol.
Yeah because they all look the same! It’s like Beach Barbie and Shopping Barbie and Psychedelic Barbie and Black Barbie…. Same same same… Just like their cheap lingere.
Same here, Tifzlan. I have no idea who these girls are; never heard of any of them before. Mind you, I’ve very little interest in the fashion world.
I think it would be helpful to put the comments in order that the models appear, or right under their individual pictures. I have no idea who all of these are, minus Kloss, because a lot of them generally look the same.
And I really want to the Tartan Dragon and Military Falcon costumes!

I liked Cara’s outfits the most and I seriously miss Miranda Kerr. There’s no one there that has a smile like hers.

Karlie is the most versatile out of them, and probably the only one that can do high fashion. I find her to be the prettiest. Others are just so boring.

Anna: I agree about Karlie. I’m surprised she’s considered ‘angel’ material because she’s a classic runway model. They aren’t necessarily the prettiest girl (they aren’t supposed to be because it’s about the clothes, not their face) but they are tall and lean and clothes look good on them. I’ve always thought of angels as having a few curves (although the curves get smaller and smaller every year) and being super pretty and looking good in lingerie.

Adriana is a pearly “Cockney Queen”. They used to sew the pearl buttons on their clothes to attract attention for their food stalls. There are people that still do it but they don’t sell anything and give their money to charity. Britain seems to be a theme.

I’m making a coat, been planning it for years. But my own version with iridescent blue buttons instead of white shell.
That’s a good idea! I’ve always wanted with different color buttons to create a rainbow effect. I can’t decide if it should be overall or within the buttons themselves. Honestly I think it’s one of those ideas that will stay in my head but I’ll never actually get around to doing it.
The one on white looks so much like my daughter that I did a double take.

These ladies were born very lucky and are not the norm. Love yourself. There’s no way to look like this if you weren’t born this way.
These women are called out for being “too thin” even for VS standards. They’re caught with cocain, and one of these girls gave that terribly honest sound bite/interview on what a pre-show diet is. Non stop working out with just 2 protein shakes a day for a week or more. She changed her tune a day later, but these women are doing long term damage to themselves. Be happy you’re healthy.

Do you have impending liver damage from all the underdrinking and undereating like they practice it? (They don’t even drink water before these type of mega shows.)
There is nothing “beautiful” about an emaciated frame like that. Even if they naturally have a pretty face you cannot see it here from the hollowness induced by their underweight. Looking at pictures like that typically makes me sad and happy that I refrained from being a model from young age on (I am very tall and was very thin as a young teen so everyone thought ‘I should be a model’. Ugh, no thanks?)

Doutzen, Adriana, Erin and Candice: stunning. Behati looks so average to me, I can’t explain why. Lily Alridge is boring and one of the most overrated models on the planet. Same goes for Karlie Kloss. Alessandra Ambrosio has a serious case of man-face, but I admit she photographs well and they can doll her up nicely.
Behati does not have the exotic slanty lines that the others have in their faces. She has a regular face and looks plain compared to the other outrageous beauties. Nice body though; I’d love to have her tiny thighs.

Pic #10 is actually Joan Smalls not Jourdan Dunn. I think you’re actually the only site to show either of them on the run way. I would never have known they were part of the show (or Jasmine Tookes or Laís Ribeiro for that matter). Anyhoo, I wish they would go back to the era of magnificent wings, nothing here really really wowed me (except for their gorgeous bods ;p). Joan’s pink peacock look was very pretty though.
Karlie’s midsection is INSANE.

That Russian Belle section of the 2005 show is still my favourite. The costumes were exquisite.
Now it’s just, “Let’s see how wacky we can go with the costumes. That would be awesome!” Anyone remember that Christmas bell they made into a costume? Looked like an umbrella poncho.
Gisele was their very best ambassador and model. The calibre of the shows dropped massively when she left. Tyra, Naomi, Heidi, Karolina Kurkova were already out/about to leave during that time, too.
Also, the makeup looks really harsh. The models look “hard” in face and body. They apply glitter and spray tan to contour the body, so that’s probably why all the models look too angular.
Joan Smalls is gorgeous. Great body and beautiful face. Karlie Kloss’s legs…I am so jealous.
Adriana Lima looks gaunt. So does Doutzen. Beautiful women but very thin now compared to their earlier VS days.
Exactly and go back a few years earlier – the late 90s – when supers like Karen Mulder and Stephanie Seymour also made appearances. I don’t understand this turn to gauntness these last 6-8 years. It’s not appealing. Are the people at VS aware of the falloff in models and the increasing tackiness of the costumes?

It’s not. I’m all for different body types, but not for women who have to starve or live on shakes for weeks.
I know it’s just the photos that were chosen, but all of the girls look confused as to why they’re wearing underwear and wings and walking down a runway. It’s like they’re robots and someone hit their respective “on” switches.
Also, the really high (Brazilian?) cut underwear makes the models look like they have male genitalia (is the “p-word” allowed on this site? lol).
There is something so transexual about them. So many strong jawlines – probably one or two of them are.

The year Katy Perry sang on California Girls the camera cut to them dancing behind the stage and they showed a side clip of Adriana dancing with her arms in the air and her boobs were way too rock hard to be real. Not even close and her baby was older so there’s no way to claim they were breastfeeding boobs.

Candice gained weight, Adriana looks anorexic, Lily always has the shortest legs.
Behati looks like a transgender drag-queen (way too much blush, does not suit her face) Erin needs to learn sophistication, that’s just her normal face (deer in headlights look). Plus, she has a surfers body (thicker legs, exact opposite of Doutzens) which enhances the perception that she’s average..

Most are very pretty…but…most are just far too muscular, hard, and sinewy for my taste…not to mention the jacked-up, grapefruit tits.
I prefer softness, lots of curves, and a little jiggle (Joan and Candice are better than the rest). Sad to see how things have changed over the years…gone from feminine softness to masculine hardness. Even the tits are hard – something wrong with that.
