Kind of? It’s simply IS amazing. Say what you want about JCVD but he is one my childhood campy action films dudes and I will forever heart him for his splits 😀

    • V4Real says:

Remember the split onto the kitchen counter while in his boxers in the movie Time Cop. Wham bam Van Damme forever baby.

Even though some folks on CB found The Expendable Franchise to be horrible, I loved it. I felt nostalgia for the back in the day action heroes.

    • Maria_Spain says:

      +1

my first crush as well 😀

    • MaiGirl says:

So glad that others love JC as much as I do. I have seen all of his movies. He’s my absolute go-to action star, and I especially have a soft spot for him after he made JCVD. That film was so funny and poignant, and made me respect him even more. And clearly, his split game is still on point!

      • Violeta says:

I have lots of his films on DVD, and JCVD is one of them, and to me it’s one of his best to date!

      • Irishae says:

Yep, I have loved him forever as well. The video is joyous. It’s embarrassing, I can’t stop watching it.

    • Arock says:

Agree!! That was amazing! I was so into him in the late 80s. My babysitter was this awesome punk band guitar player from next door who would let me watch movies with him late night— nightmare on elm st, poltergeist, all the kickboxing and Steven segal stuff. I love JCVD, but I think my first movie crush was Eric Roberts in ‘Best of the Best’. Omg….does anyone remember that?

      • Violeta says:

AHHH OMG Best of the Best!!!!! Gah Eric Roberts was so beautiful in that with his ponytail and all! The US vs the Korean fighting machines, Roberts character with his shoulder problem, and the American-Asian dude who wanted to avenge hhis brother’s death and the little twist at the end when they lost… yaaassss omg omg memories are floonding while I’m typing 😀

Love you for your impeccable taste in the late 80s <3 <3

    • karen says:

How many times did they shoot that? How many retakes? Would be interesting to know.

  2. Tiffany27 says:

    The Toronto Mayor LOL!!!!

  3. melior says:

wow! he’s still got it! big time!

  4. Nev says:

    Jean Claude….kinda hot.

    R.Patz…SWOON.

  5. eliza says:

So is his awful looking skin.

  6. tifzlan says:

That Rob Ford sh-t is hilarious. I’m sorry!

  7. j.eyre says:

re: Noah – I still prefer the Bill Cosby version.

  8. Toot says:

I used to enjoy Jean Claude’s splits in movies, but this was even better. The man has incredible balance.

  9. Celia says:

This is complete off topic from any of the links above but apparently Brittany Murphy didn’t die of natural causes but was poisoned either on purpose or accidentally. Anyone know anything about this?

    • Happy21 says:

      :O never heard anything! Yikes!

    • Nicolette says:

What? Where did you read this? Kind of always thought it was a little too bizarre that she died suddenly and her husband passed so soon after, and from the same cause if I remember right.

    • gg says:

She had an arsenal of Rx drugs she was on and could’ve died like Heath Ledger. I think everyone was already assuming that. Also her husband was shadier than a street full of shade.

    • Launicaangelina says:

I always thought her and her husband’s passing were under shady circumstances. Here’s a link to the latest news:

      http://www.bustle.com/articles/9002-new-details-about-brittany-murphys-death-are-shocking-sad

    • Kelly says:

I heard she died of lung problems due to all the mold in her apt.

    • TinyTurtle says:

This is what they are saying

The lab report states, “Ten (10) of the heavy metals evaluated were detected at levels higher that the WHO [The World Health Organization] high levels. Testing the hair strand sample identified as “back of the head” we have detected ten (10) heavy metals at levels above the WHO high levels recommendation. If we were to eliminate the possibility of a simultaneous accidental heavy metals exposure to the sample donor then the only logical explanation would be an exposure to these metals (toxins) administered by a third party perpetrator with likely criminal intent.”

  10. mia girl says:

Only the ladies from Celebitchy could ever get me to click on a Van Damme link!

But you are right. The entire spot was impressive and very well shot/orchestrated. And while I was sure I’d gotten my fill of Enya in the late 90s – the song sealed the deal.

  11. madpoe says:

    Lady Gaga?!
    Bjork has better costumes! IMO

  12. Violet says:

That commercial is unbelievable. Wow. WOW.

    That’s all I got.

  13. Val says:

What I want to know is how does the ad agency come up with this? Ad Exec “Hey, I know , remember Jean Claude Van Damme’s splits, let’s do that with the trucks!” Other Execs “YES!”

  14. Happy21 says:

    Totally EFFING amazing!

  15. jessica says:

awe.. his hair, that part in the last pic is sooooo cute!!!

  16. Nicolette says:

Ah-mazing!! Can’t believe that was even possible.

  17. kaligula says:

Fascinating. It evoked a feeling in me that I don’t think any commercial ever has. Such an interesting choice of song. Everything was an interesting choice. I feel so happy for him #kudos

  18. Beregorl says:

    Mind=blown.

  19. Rita says:

The Van Damme commercial is brilliant, imaginative, and wonderfully executed…….as are the comments by Toronto Mayor Ford……Canada just changed its nation anthem from Oh Canada to OMG Canada.

    • meh says:

Sorry but the actions of douchebag Ford reflect upon him and the dumbasses in Toronto who kept him in office, not all of Canada.

  20. Jag says:

JCVD is an awful, rude jerk, but no one can deny that he has incredible flexibility and balance!

  21. jane16 says:

JCVD is one of the most evil & corrupt men to ever come from the entertainment world. Rotten through and through. Anything he does will always be tainted by his blacker than black history. Nothing could induce me to watch anything of his. If you are a woman, fgs, stay the hell away from him.

    • tifzlan says:

      Whoa, what happened?

      • jane16 says:

He is known for his brutal treatment of women in various parts of the world, among other things. Men that are normally pigs towards women find him appalling and scary. There are always bad stories being told about him, but specifically, I have known an actor (forever A+ & still working) since the 80s who has worked with him and who told me and some of my friends some terrifying stories about him. He warned us to never go near him.

    • Jag says:

@ jane16 – Wow! I remember him being awful, but didn’t realize just how bad. Thank you for the warning!

I agree with a poster below that I’d like to hear some stories. Names can be changed to protect the guilty, of course. 😉

  22. Penelope says:

    Wow….

  23. jane16 says:

Regarding Russell Crowe’s “Noah”: I hate religious movies myself, but imagine it will go over well with the religious-right. It looks like another cheesy cgi movie. And he has criticized other actors for “selling out”? The nerve.

    • Samtha says:

Late to comment, but I’m not sure how well the “religious right” will respond, actually. It has tested terribly with religious members of test audiences, and has had bad buzz from the start within that community because of the changes to the story and the alleged environmental angle.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I like christian films, when they are well done, and have well rounded characters i.e. REAL CHARACTERS–which so far, I’ve only found that I like is the first few films of the “Love Comes Softly” series–that had Katherine Heigl in the first one. My mom’s not religious at all, and she loved the first one. I hate that almost all of the christian films that we can get our hands on are cheesy and horribly acted. You’d think that there would be a market for christian films–it’s not like you’d have to spend a ton of money on them.

But I saw the trailer yesterday, and it looked like another exercise in Russell Crowe’s vanity. I can’t stand his face. Every time I watch Gladiator (for Joaquin!!), I see Russell Crowe’s face and think “God, he thinks he’s sexy, doesn’t he?”
No he ain’t. The only reason why Russell Crowe was even remotely attractive in that film was because of what’s going on below his neck i.e. them muscles. Not because of his face. He’s too squinty–like Leann.

And Emma Watson can’t act. At all. She was the weakest link in HP. And I guess I’m nitpicking with her, but I feel like she’s always trying to make it know that she’s a “good girl”, so to speak.

But yay! for Jennifer Connolly. God, she’s so beautiful.

  24. Jayna says:

They showed the making of it on Extra today. It was interesting. Watching it was amazing. And the music was perfection with it. I hope they paid him a lot of money.

  25. Carlye says:

Perhaps it was me… but it looked like the road was moving, not the trucks. Of course he still did amazing splits, not disputing that, but it looked like the trucks were still and the ground (photoshop or after effects or something) was moving.

    • Violeeta says:

No, it was you. The trucks are intentionally moving backwards to show the stability of the steering, which is the point of the ad, beside Van Damme split. This is a demonstration of Volvo Dynamic Steering and Stability, which is supposed to make backing up much more precise. So watch again and notice the truck on the right is a semi-trailer, while the one on the left is a straight truck (no trailer). The trailer driver appears to be backing along a straight line while the straight truck driver on the left widens the gap.

    • ennie says:

The reversing trucks could also be in part to protecting him in case he fell, he would not be run over with the rest of the wheels. He was wearing a type of protection gloves in case he had to jump off the trucks.

    • sean says:

Yes!!! – Thats exactly what I thought….You can draw a straight line underneath the wheels of the the trucks…the ground appears to be moving forward..Some shop work of the rims is all that is needed to give the appearance of the trucks moving back wards relative to the ground…that and some stuffing around with the shadowing…

      • Jayna says:

No. They were really going backwards. Watch the videos on youtube discussing the making of it out there before the shoot.

      • Maria says:

Yes wheels appear not moving at all. I agree some trickery somewhere, still v cool all the same.

  26. lili says:

Carlye – If you watch again, you’ll see that the trucks are driving in reverse. That’s why it looks like they’re still. Check out the youtube video link above, as well.
Those splits are crazy ! Well done JCVD!

  27. stinky says:

    jane16 – you better spill it, sista……..
And speaking of sistas, my big sis and i were just agreeing that we just dont have the same kind’a fun on Celebitchy as we used to.
    We used to LAUGH.
    ALOT!
and now its a sanctimonious i-dont-know-WHAT-fest.
Please-o-please gimme some Celebitchy dirt right now!
Tell what you know about Van Damme.
I dont even care about him and i wanna hear.
    (“Enquiring minds wanna know”)

  28. The Original Mia says:

That was amazing! I’ve always loved JCVD. His (and Dolph)’s movies are my go-to lazy Saturday movies. Just love their campiness.

    Rob Ford…eww. E-W-W! I need brain bleach.

  29. MsAubra says:

It makes me want to inquire about Volvo for my next car purchase

  30. Anon says:

Wow to JCVD and to the drivers going backwards, not an easy feat either. Just awesome.

  31. Jane says:

Long live Jean Claude. That was beyond epic!!!

  32. Jayna says:

What is so amazing about this is I knew he had an invisible safety harnass in case he fell so he wouldn’t die. But I also felt sure they must have straps his feet were in to keep his feet secure as the trucks are separating. The director said all they had was a safety harnass on him. And all they did was build little platforms on the rearview mirrors for his feet, but that his feet were not secured at all.
Wow. And they prepared for days on the backing up and all and rehearsing, but that commericial was done in one take. One take? Unbelievable.

I put the screen to full screen. Look at his feet. He is steadying them on the platform as he’s beginning to do the split and as the split goes wider it is like his shoes must be undone so his ankles can come out and go completely sideways. This man is beyond strong.
