Evangeline Lilly in Catherine Deane at ‘The Hobbit’ premiere: awful bangs?

wenn20900297

We have new Benedict Cumberbatch photos. But I’m writing about some other people right now, so I can fully wake up and work for a moment before devoting my entire body and mind to all things Cumbergasm. Benedict and these people attended last night’s LA premiere of The Hobbit. It was a pretty good turnout, and I’m actually sort of surprised that the first big premiere was in LA. That rarely happens with these big franchises these days. Usually the first premieres and events are in Europe or even Asia. So, LA premiere. Let’s do this.

I was actually just thinking about Evangeline Lilly this morning for no apparent reason other than something on the news reminded me of Lost, and I said a quiet thanks that the show was no longer on the air and I no longer had to watch Evangeline or Matthew Fox’s terrible acting. I actually like Evangeline as a person – in interviews, she’s interesting and cool. But on screen? I couldn’t care less. As for her style… she wore this Catherine Deane gown to the LA premiere. I think grey and cream is an interesting choice and it’s a pretty dress overall, but the styling ruins it for me. THE BANGS. She’s such a pretty woman and the bangs are just limp and awful.

I’m also including photos of Orlando Bloom (he returned to the franchise as Legolas), Martin Freeman and his wife, Richard Armitage and Aidan Turner.

    Richard Armitage!!
    MINE, MINE, MINE, MINE, MINE.
    …ahem.

    • LadySlippers says:

      He is dreamy.

North & South is what did me in.

      *sigh*

      • Post It's says:

This x 1000. If you haven’t seen North & South, you fail at life.

      • Amelia says:

I’ve really got to dig that DVD out for Christmas. John Thornton – what a character.
I should probably stop being so damn lazy and read the book at some point, too.
In other post related news, Martin Freeman looks adorable.

      • Anna says:

        Me too! Oh, Thornton…

      • miapatagonia says:

North & South was my first introduction to the great Mr. Armitage.

      • PerfectDate says:

I am feeling really old. The only “North and South” I know is a miniseries from the 80s with Patrick Swayze, with the Civil War, grand costumes, kind of like “Dynasty” meets “Gone with the Wind”. I loved that miniseries. I was all confused, as I have never heard of Richard Armitage. Seeing as how he comes so highly recommended though, I will check out Netflix for this movie. Much obliged 🙂

    • TheyPromisedMeBeer says:

He looks exhausted as hell, and he is still the best looking man on that carpet. *siiiiiiiiigh

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

I had very little time before so I decided to only write something about the absence of Lee Pace but just had to come back to express my love for Richard. I love very tall men with beautiful voices but Lee looks too buff for my taste these days and Richard only gets better and better with age and looks just wonderful here, so – Richard it is. Are we still doing that shanking thing around here?

I haven’t seen North & South yet, so I failed at life, I guess. I have to do something about it. Now.

      • TheyPromisedMeBeer says:

I personally don’t like to shank – too messy and divisive for my taste. I’m all for sharing nicely.

  2. Dani2 says:

The dress is beautiful on her and she’s always been gorgeous, I don’t hate the bangs but I don’t feel like they’re enhancing anything or showing off her beautiful face, they’re just sort of there.

    • LadySlippers says:

I think the bangs are overpowering the whole look. If they were softer she’d have hit a grand slam fashion wise.

      • LadyMTL says:

Same here, the bangs are practically swallowing up her eyes. The dress itself isn’t horrible but I can’t even focus on it.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yes exactly, Dani. She’s gorgeous but the bangs do nothing for her. I actually really like bangs on some women, like Rose Byrne. But on Byrne they made her huge brown eyes pop, on EL, they just hide most of her pretty face in an unflattering way.

    • lucy2 says:

Agree – she is so pretty, and the dress is very nice, but the bangs overpower the look.

    • Liv says:

Agree with all of you, Love the dress and she’s a very beautiful woman – but the bangs are awful!

  3. allons-y alonso says:

More important question: WHERE WAS LEE “THE (SO BEAUTIFUL IT HURTS) PIE MAKER” PACE ?!?!?!?!?!

    • amanda says:

      I’d love to know.

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

Exactly. I was waiting to see him and I was sure he would be there since Thranduil is such an impotant part of the movie but he’s probably filming something. I loved Pushing Daisies – it was so silly, yet so enjoyable and I had a major crush on the Pie Maker. We can hope Lee will attend the next premiere, or at least one of the premieres.

  4. Aussie girl says:

That kiss pose is worse than the bangs or has we Aussies call it, a fringe.

I don’t know much about this movie but I’m guessing she is in it?? Wasn’t her ex from lost a hobbit as well?? Dominic something..,,

    • alex says:

Dominic Monaghan, yea he was the hobbit ‘Merry’ in Lord of The Rings.

    • Seán says:

Yes Dominic Monaghan who played Charlie in Lost played a hobbit, Merry, in The Lord of the Rings. She’s in the second part of The Hobbit…she plays an Elf created for the movie so as to balance out the male:female ration in these movies.

    • Bridgett says:

I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that she and dominic stayed on good terms and that’s how she knew Jackson and got the part, because otherwise she’s su a random choice. She was with dominic for like 4 or 5 years.

And I will forever associate her with 1) her Livelinks (or whatever it is) commercial and 2) complaining about how awful it is to be pretty.

  5. Tish says:

That dress reminds me of Swift’s at the Winter Whites Gala.

  6. Lauren says:

Orlando is really starting to look like that creepy kid from Desperate Housewives (Paul Young’s son)..

  7. epiphany says:

Truly awful bangs, but she is absolutely breathtaking in the movie. And I mean prettier than Legolas beautiful.

  8. paola says:

The 1st movie i didn’t like. I doubt I’ll see the other 2. And i was in New Zealand when i watched so i was totally in the mood but that film was crap.

    • LadySlippers says:

Supposedly DoS is awesome. A friend who’d read the book said the AUJ didn’t have much to work with book wise but not true for DoS. So let’s hope this one is better!

    • Samtha says:

I agree. Hate to admit it, but I fell asleep during The Hobbit and have never felt the need to watch what I missed. They really should have filmed it as one movie rather than drawing it out. I doubt I’ll watch the others either.

    • Seán says:

I agree that the first part was a stretched out mess but I’m more hopeful about the second part. The first film in The Hobbit simply covered the first six chapters of the novel which was about 100 pages of Bilbo and the Dwarves finding themselves in one cartoony mess only to land in another. As the novel progresses though, it does have more depth and more interesting characters/events.

  9. Samtha says:

I thought she was Jennifer Love Hewitt at first. The bangs are really not working for her.

  10. KromBoom says:

I was mesmerised by her skin in Lost. She never seemed to wear much make up but her skin (and gorgeous freckles) absolutely glowed. But was it clever lighting? Tell me, Celebubbies! I’m always fooled.

    • Lila says:

No that was her skin. My understanding is that whenever possible, she actually wore no makeup on her skin. Elizabeth Mitchell and Michelle Rodriguez were reportedly the same way. Which was always awesome to me until Evangeline and her then boyfriend, Dominic Monaghan, seriously shaded the actresses on the show who preferred to wear more makeup. It’s great that she has such beautiful skin but as someone who doesn’t, she can save the shade. I wouldn’t leave the house without foundation anymore than I would leave the house without my hair being brushed. Someone who feels differently pointing out the difference is snotty and unnecessary.

  11. Leah says:

Two things: Amanda Abbington and Martin aren’t married, something she’s always clarifying on Twitter. And you should totally check out her Twitter, the woman is absolutely hilarious and she’s going to be in the Third Series of Sherlock as Mary.

  12. Kate says:

I don’t mind the bangs, but not with the braid, it’s just too much.

I liked Evangeline on Lost, but only when she wasn’t with or talking about Jack. Matthew Fox ruined that show for me (well, actually a lot of things ruined the show for me but he was the first).

  13. Down and Out says:

Speaking of needing to fully wake up, I read that on my narrow phone screen as “Martin Freeman and his wife, Richard Armitage.” A mental image to start my day.

  14. eliza says:

Lilly’s best work was in The Hurt Locker because all she uttered was “Can you chop these”?

  15. Angie says:

” In interviews, she’s interesting and cool”.
That’s weird because I remember reading several Evangeline’s interviews and she sometimes put me off.
I remember she said she used to cry to sleep wishing she wasn’t pretty and she would plead with God to make her ugly. Or that hollywood producers were frustrated because they wanted her to be the next Angelina Jolie (after she called her an ice queen). She could have Jolie’s career but SHE was the one who refused of course (and then she has a girlfriend role in some dumb robot movie)… Bitch, please.
She just sounded like another beautiful but vapid starlet who think she is too pretty to get roles and think her amazing acting skills are overlooked (when she was bad on lost). Like other tv girls Jessica Biel, Alba or Eva Mendes….
Granted, I didn’t read other interviews after that, so maybe I’m being too harsh and bitchy or biased?

    • Angie says:

I forget to add but Matthew Fox also said dumb and arrogant things like when he thought he should have Matt Damon’s career. Or that producers saw him as a leading man in big movie in the same kind of role that Steve Mcqueen was good at (WTF?) when he wasn’t even good in lost. I don’t know, but these two seemed delusionnal when they were just on an ensemble tv show.

      • LadySlippers says:

I just saw him in ‘Emperor’ god he was so boring I had to force myself to keep watching. And I love movies with Japanese themes.

        Zzzzzzzzzzzz

I think the movie had a decent premise but he’s a total snooze fest.

    • Mary says:

Thanks Angie, I was just trying to remember the other day who had given the interview about how they would cry because they were too pretty. For some reason I was thinking Kristen Kreuk (sp?) from Beauty and the Beast. And Evangeline also had given an interview that stated after she was done with Lost, she was going to be some great humanitarian and give up acting. She has obviously not given up acting, but what about the humanitarian part? I haven’t heard anything, but I’m guessing no on that part too.

      • lim says:

Yeah, wasn’t she going to quit acting? Guess she either 1) can’t stand obscurity or 2) did not get residuals for Lost

  16. GeeMoney says:

Evangeline’s hair is a HOT mess. Her dress is nice, though.

And that’s a cute pic of Martin Freeman and his girlfriend. I wish Orlando Bloom had worn some dress shoes.

  17. Nev says:

    Lost forever.

  18. flavia_deluce says:

Not to nitpick but Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington aren’t married! They’re awesome. 🙂

  19. Orlando's Shoes says:

Dude…your wife already decided you were too old (or maybe too poor)…tennis shoes with the suit isn’t fooling anyone. Embarrassing really

  20. Agnes says:

They all look lovely but where is Ian McKellen?

  21. AngelaH says:

Thank you for the Aidan Turner. I clicked in here hoping to see him! My crappy morning is turning around.

    • Camille (TheOriginal) says:

He’s a real cutie isn’t he. Give me him over that weirdo looking alien lizard thing that the stangirls get all frothy over any day.

  22. Kate says:

    Woa. Those bangs ARE bad!

  23. Dommy Dearest says:

As someone that hasn’t seen this woman before: I like the bangs. Does she have a large forehead though (serious question)?

  24. IceQueen says:

    Beautiful dress, horrible hairstyle.

  25. A Mascarada says:

This girl is gorgeous, WTH has she been doing to her hair lately? Never cared for her style off screen, but aways good fun on interviews.
Loved (to hate) her character on LOST. Nosy Kate…
Totally OT, but since some brought up, loved Matthew Fox on LOST too.

  26. eilonwy says:

I thought she looked beautiful. The dress is so pretty and the bangs and fishtail braid work for me. She’s stunning.

  27. Amy says:

Totally forgot she dated Dominic Monaghan! They were so low key, there aren’t many pictures of them together. I guess that is how she became involved with The Hobbit. I was surprised to see she was part of such a big franchise, she always talked about retiring from acting after Lost and traveling the world and camping and that kind of thing. I actually liked her as Kate on Lost. It was the Jack/Kate will they or won’t they that grew cumbersome (especially because Jack got really annoying as the show went on).
