My mom recently told me something disturbing about Joaquin Phoenix. My maternal grandfather passed away when my mom was very young, and she told me that it’s difficult for her to watch Joaquin’s movies because he looks so much like her late father. Isn’t that a weird story? To think, I’m directly related to someone who looked a lot like Joaquin Phoenix. So, no, I would not hit it. Right?

Anyway, these are photos from last night’s LA premiere of Her, starring none other than Joaquin. Apparently, it’s yet another great role for him. Following his loser, dirtbaggy “performance art” rapper persona, Joaquin has come back to Hollywood a seemingly different man. And he’s been welcomed back with open arms too – his performance in The Master earned him another Oscar nomination earlier this year, and he’s on track to get yet another Best Actor nomination this year for Her – while he earned a Golden Globe nomination, he didn’t get nominated for a SAG, but Her is still picking up a surprising amount of critics’ awards. I actually like how Joaquin is playing the game a little bit this year so far. He seems nicer. Less douchey. Maybe it’s The Cardigan of Oscar Campaigning. Or maybe it’s because he’s my grandfather.

As for the fashion… I didn’t think any of these dresses were anything to write home about. Amy Adams wore Lanvin and it was pretty – prettier than most of the stuff she’s been wearing lately. I hope she brings it for the awards season but let’s not get our hopes up. Rooney Mara wore Givenchy – she’s really trying to make this kind of thing her default “avant-garde” style, but Rooney has the ability to make even interesting pieces look kind of bland. And Olivia Wilde showed off her tiny baby bump in a really cheap-looking David Koma Spring 2014. I’m also including a photo of Kate Mara who came out to support her sister – I really liked Kate’s dress!
