Tom Hiddleston gets bloody in new photos from ‘Coriolanus’: sexy or disturbing?

TH5

I need some Tom Hiddleston today. Benedict Cumberbatch would have been good too, but I actually think I needed Tommy more. He’s so sweet and twee and vulnerable. He’s the human equivalent of a floppy-eared puppy. He will make everything better after Duck Dynasty bigotry and R. Kelly abuse.

So, the Donmar Warehouse has a Twitter and they’ve been releasing new images of Hiddleston and the cast of Coriolanus. This is not the soft, cuddly, velvet-ensconced Hiddles we’re used to seeing. This is a bloody Hiddles. This is Warrior Hiddles. This is ass-kicking Hiddles. I’m not sure how I feel about it. Hm… do I want him to ravage me or do I want to clean him up and give him a velvet blanket? At the Donmar Twitter, they’re also linking to the first batch of reviews for the show. It sounds like Hiddles is being praised. Good for him!

Here’s something that amuses me about Hiddles – when he’s playing Loki, he compares Loki to a Shakespearean character. When Hiddles is playing a Shakespearean character, he compares the character to Loki. Tommy is so funny.

And yes, Hiddles takes his shirt off. But he’s bloody?! I’m not sure how I feel about it. I almost prefer him as a skinny vampire.

  1. Sharra55 says:

    Yes please. So yummy.

  2. Shijel says:

I’ll take the third and fourth option: goofy and unconvincing. At least on stills.

  3. AG-UK says:

He looks good…. and I prefer his natural hair colour.

  4. Violeta says:

LOL! They are totally similar to the stills from The Hollow Crown : Henry IV (part I&II) and Henry V.

    Eh… Shakespeare etc.

    A little bit of both.

His hair looks a bit brown or dirty blonde in those pics; I like it that way.

    • Secret Squirrel says:

Totally agreeing with you here. Its wrong with all that blood etc, but yes, its also very hot. He’s also bulked up a bit which he carries very well (unlike my good self!). I think he will slim down again when the show is over though…

      So far he has had:
      blonde hair = works
      Dark hair = works
      Auburn hair = works
      brown hair = works
Not many people can pull off 4 different hair colors and have all looks work for them.

      • lunchcoma says:

That really is quite unusual, and I imagine it’s quite useful for an actor. Most people can pull off two colors, if they’re lucky, and I’m one of those people who looks dreadful if I stray more than a few shades from my natural color.

      • Janeite says:

Ditto for me about the hair color thing. I can do red or brownish red but that’s about it. I dyed it black once…I think I may have actually scared people. Think scary vampire, not hot attractive movie or TV vampire.

My favorite pic is the one with him and the actress playing his wife, Birgitte Sorensen. I also love the one with him and Hadley Fraser.

      • lunchcoma says:

Oh, I’m a redhead as well. Brown doesn’t work on me at all for reasons I can’t pin down, blonde makes me look like reject from Rivendell, and that period in college when I was fond of pinks and blues is best forgotten.

I like the one with Hadley Fraser the best. It’s so expressive – though it looks like it tickles the forehead!

      • Janeite says:

Oh cool, a fellow redhead. It has gotten darker as I’ve grown up but it’s really a challenge to pull off anything a shade or two darker or lighter, like you said.

Yeah, the pic with Hadley is all kinds of good, isn’t it? Their expressions are marvelous. I don’t tend to like a full beard, but his is actually working for me for some reason.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

I’m brunette but with strong red undertones. Tho at the moment my color is burgundy, so more dark red than brown! I can’t do blonde at all with my pale skin. I look like a ghost who has seen a ghost. And with black hair I imagine I would look like a domino.
        🙂

  6. Beth says:

Tom is always such a breath of fresh air. I’m totally buying what he’s selling.

  7. Leah says:

Sexy and disturbing just the way I like it!

    • loveisthecoal says:

That’s pretty much where I am, too. Sexy AND disturbing. There doesn’t need to be an “or.”

  8. Janeite says:

Bloody, gore covered Hiddles wearing leather armor, arm gauntlets and fingerless gloves. It is as if Josie Rourke read my mind. I am nearly speechless with joy.

  9. betsy says:

Is Cumberbatch dating the Borgen actress. Someone on datalounge was dropping hints he’s seeing the actress. she’s in Coriolanus with Hiddles.Maybe he’s been doing a bit of matchmaking.

    • Elodie says:

Ah… the mandatory Cumberbatch name + anecdote drop in a Hiddleston post…

      • Abby says:

Yes please don’t mention Cumby in Hiddles post. I hate to see them getting compared or even mentioned in the same sentence.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Is Cumberbatch the new Voldemort in Hiddle’s posts??? He who cannot be named (but always will be). I shall refer to him as Velvetmort from now on!

I saw this more of a discussion about who one of the stars of the Coriolunus is dating rather than a comparison between Hiddles and Velvetmort.

      • lunchcoma says:

Secret Squirrel: I adore the name Velvetmort, but I’m cringing at picturing poor Benedict without his lovely nose.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Ha! But its those curls I would miss the most!

    • Miss Scarlet says:

That person was all ‘connect the dots’ but never elaborated. It hasn’t popped up anywhere else…who knows. After this summer’s Russian debacle, I’m sure Cumby is keeping his shit on lockdown.

    • browniecakes says:

      +1 Abby!

  10. Abbicci says:

Mad Hot. Now, if he had the Hiddlesbeard and was bloody I wouldn’t be able to type right now.

  11. Elise says:

    YES. YES. YES. YES. YES.

  12. umyeah says:

    Ooo. Me likey. Beefed up=yummy.

  13. MarilynGray says:

Disturbing is right… I think I prefer him as the shirtless vampire too. That being said, I am SO looking forward to seeing this!

One question though – is that last picture from the same day of rehearsals as the last lot of photos, or does Hiddles have a stack of paper-thin blue t-shirts to rehearse in?

  14. SChr says:

Third pic – the one with the girl. That’s his sex-face, and I can’t even. I was supposed to focus on work, and now there is nothing in the world but that face. Ugh.

    • MarilynGray says:

Lmao! Now I can’t concentrate either!
If you want something to compare it to- watch the Hollow Crown (Henry IV pt 1) when they empty the tavern and the prostitute jumps on his lap, only to get ‘interrupted’ by his fathers men. The look of earnestness in his eyes then is more of a ‘pre-sex’ face – “ummm can’t you guys get outta here? Can’t you see in trying to get some ?”
      That one is distracting too.

    • Lindy79 says:

I’ve gone back and looked several times and sweet lord, you’re right.

Is the water cold in that shower shot?

  15. Reece says:

SEXY!! Disturbing Shakespearian Tom is much more fun than Twee Tom.

  16. GrannyPants says:

Fourth picture is TH demonstrating to Birgitte Hjort Sørensen just how small the ‘Hiddlesconda’ really is! 😉

  17. Janeite says:

I’ve now had a chance to read all of the reviews and they are all quite good. I’m pleased to see the rest of the cast getting recognition too, especially the women. Hadley Fraser did come in for a bit of criticism with a couple of critics saying he overplays his role. I wonder how much of that is him and how much of that is Rourke.

Still can’t decide how I feel about the shower scene. It has certainly gotten a lot of attention and evokes a very visceral response. But was it really the only way to show the physical pain of a wounded warrior? Just seeing a character covered in blood and gore seems to accomplish that quite well. Adding a shirtless shower scene takes it a bit over the top. Just my opinion though.

  18. lex says:

I….just….died. A guy covered in blood shouldn’t be so hot…what have you done to me Hiddles!!! And if you could please keep doing it Hiddles….it’s working!

  19. Lady Satan says:

Bloody, sweaty, muddy, dirty or all done up in a tux – just gimme! 🙂

  20. lunchcoma says:

I’ll take the Warrior Hiddles, especially since I know he’ll be happy to be cuddly and twee when the fight is done.

It sounds like the reviews for this are rather good. Sadly, I won’t be able to watch, but good for him.

    • Janeite says:

LOL, lunchcoma! Why won’t you be able to watch? Are you not near a cinema where it is being shown? 🙁 Originally I was going to have to drive about 40 miles to see it and that theatre was not even showing it until March 4th. But then a theatre much nearer to me is showing it on February 16th so that is a much better option. I won’t see it at the same time as everyone else but I will see it so that is all that matters.

      • lunchcoma says:

Nowhere close, Janeite! If it’s not a blockbuster, I generally have to wait to see it on Netflix, as our theater doesn’t even carry many independent films. Something like this is out of the question. The nearest screening is in Canada, and I’m afraid not even Hiddleston justifies an international weekend trip!

      • Janeite says:

Lunchcoma, that sucks!!! And what was that you said???? Are you implying that it’s a bit ridiculous for Tommy fans to fly across several time zones and/or an ocean without even a ticket to a Coriolanus performance in the hopes that they can acquire one somehow against all odds and then queue for ages in cold and rainy weather for a slight chance of seeing or talking to him for 5 seconds? 😉

      • lunchcoma says:

Far be it from me to question the judgment of the Hiddlestoners! (If only because I fear for my life and my safety if I do.) I’ll just stick to hoping that these particularly enthusiastic fans use the opportunity to take in some of the sights in London other than the stage door and the back of their idol’s head as he leaves to go home.

      • Janeite says:

Lunchcoma, comments like that are why I love you.

      • lunchcoma says:

        The feeling is entirely mutual!

      • Secret Squirrel says:

@Janeite. I don’t get to see it until Feb 23rd. By then the cast will probably be over it and will do the whole show sitting on chairs and smoking pipes or something. Could even be closing night (ends in late Feb I think).

@Lunchcoma. The Hiddlestoners terrify me. I always sense a stampede is never more than a alleged Hiddles sighting away!

      • janeite says:

Thanks, lunchcoma. You’re a sweetheart. I really mean that. You make me laugh and that is always a good thing. There needs to be more laughing in the world. Less fighting and more laughing.

Hi Secret Squirrel! I checked the Donmar site and the last live performance is February 8th. You and I will both be seeing a taped performance of the January 30th live broadcast. And all of my words about lunchcoma apply to you too. You’re always a welcome sight when I see your comments on a TH thread.

      • Valois says:

I’ll see it on January the 30st. It’s not in my hometown either, I hope I’ll catch the last train home.
Aaaand: They’ll be showing Frankenstein once again two weeks later 🙂

      • Secret Squirrel says:

But but but… I paid for a live performance… Grrrrrrrrr
I thought it was odd that it would be 11pm in London when I was sitting down in the cinema to watch it! I just thought they were very dedicated to the audiences unable to make it to the live performances!!
        *slaps forehead*

Thanks Janeite. I enjoy your posts too. I feel better knowing we will watch Coriolanus together but apart (oh, sounds stupid, but I know what I mean!), and Lunchcoma (love your name by the way), you seem to have the same thought patterns as me. For this, I offer my deepest sympathies!

  21. browniecakes says:

Joss Wheadon saw the play. Loved Tom and praised the director. With all the film work being done in London due to the tax credits, I hope many industry types see TH and give him a lead film role soon.

  22. Mary-Rose says:

I wish I could enjoy this but I can’t. I still have a niggling doubt about what he tell us dragonflys. I’ve read somewhere he’s not being truthful to us about certain things.

    • Janeite says:

Mary-Rose, with all due respect, can we please not start this again? I am so, so sick of the drama. It is getting beyond ridiculous. All he owes any of us is the best possible performance he can give in any of his work.

    • fruitloops says:

WUUUUT!! A celebrity not being truthful to his fans!!?? That’s unheard of!!

    • jammypants says:

He owes people nothing. He’s an actor. We don’t know him personally. Why so serious? =p

Good on the guy for getting an average of 4 stars out of 5 in the reviews.

      • fruitloops says:

I think Mary-Rose is just calling out to MissThing to come back and continue her absolutely delish story 😉

      • janeite says:

Mary-Rose, at the end of the last thread, was a big disbeliever in MissThing’s story. Now she is here hinting that there is good tea on TH “somewhere” which is basically the same MO MissThing used. I am starting to think that perhaps one person is behind all this ridiculousness, using different devices and IP addresses (and different personas) to get around the mods. There have been repeated attempts to derail all the TH threads recently. It’s getting out of control. I’d like to be able to come here and have fun and appreciate the guy’s work and the hilarious and pretentious things he says and does in interviews. But inevitably, someone pops in and drops some teasing comment, someone takes the bait, and then we go off the rails again.

        ENOUGH.

      • fruitloops says:

        @janeite
Agreed, I am taking a piss at the whole situation, but the truth is that Mary-Rose has sent mixed messages about her opinion on MissThing’s story so far, and the first impression on this last comment I got was that she is the exact same troll she said MissThing was. Sooo…Your comment +10000 😉
Btw, can’t help to notice that TH posts are pretty much the only place these trolls reside and pull this type of sh**t…

      • Janeite says:

Thanks, fruitloops. I think the reason they keep trying is because they’ve gotten people to take the bait, me included. But the pattern is now becoming so obvious that even someone as thick-headed as I am can see it for what it is! Of course, it also helps that I’m not dealing with a cold and taking copious doses of cold medication anymore either! 🙂

      • fruitloops says:

Haha, I read that comments (when you said you were on cold medication), and what a good laugh that was, I loved it!
Also, admittedly, I really got hooked up on those stories, so I’m pretty much joining the thick-headed fun-searching ladies club 😉
I like to think that I’m smarter now 😀

      • Janeite says:

That makes two of us, fruitloops! And I promise to refrain from posting anymore when I have chemicals of any kind in my system! That was embarrassing.

      • fruitloops says:

Noooooo, don’t refrain, it was soooo funny how you handled trolls!!!! 🙂

      • LilyRose says:

What happened? I am off the Hiddles train but on occasion stop by to read the hilarious things dragonflies write, though they seem to have migrated elsewhere. But what did I miss? What? WHAT?!

        *waits patiently*

      • Janeite says:

Trolls. Trolls have happened. Go back and look at the past 4 or 5 TH threads and you can see it all. Would take too long to recount it all here. It seems to have driven the regulars away. Maybe that was the troll’s intent all along.

It’s to the point where I almost cringe when I see a TH thread here now because I am anticipating what will probably happen.

      • fruitloops says:

“It seems to have driven the regulars away.”

Yup, which is a shame since this is probably the best TH thread so far, lots of pretty (to put it nicely, but you know what I mean) pictures, especially the sex-face pic, that is an absolute gem!

      • Janeite says:

I agree, fruitloops. The pictures are lovely and it would have been nice to see some discussion about the play too. I was looking forward to that.

      • LilyRose says:

I just read the last thread and wow. That was entertaining. Can’t really comment as I have guests over but we shall meet again!

      • Janeite says:

Have fun with your guests, LilyRose. In all honesty though, it would be better to just let the whole thing drop. It really, really would.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

So now is not the right time for me to say I am pregnant with Hiddleston triplets…Again??
And I live in a castle with a moat and every day the father of my (soon to be) six children comes home in a different Shakespeare costume…and brings me Hobnobs…and velvet slippers????

      • Caroline Bingley says:

@Janeite: Will the shades of CB be thus polluted? All these stories…*whispering* it’s all Shaitana…*slides curtain back again and sips tea* 😉

      • Janeite says:

@Caroline Bingley, LOL, no I think the shades of CB will remain unpolluted! I will however, join you for a nice cup of tea. Perhaps a lapsang souchong on this cold morning.

@Secret Squirrel…you are all kinds of hilarious!

      • Caroline Bingley says:

@Janiete. A lapsang souchong! A REAL tea. Ooh, yes, that’ll do nicely. 🙂 *clinking your tea cup with mine*

      • Londongal says:

Bloody hell. I just read all that gumpf and I find it very odd. Mediating for a man you appear to have feelings for strikes me as odd anyway, so whether it’s true or not, MissThing ought to be talking it through with her friends like a normal person, not dropping odd crumbs on a gossip site.

  23. allons-y alonso says:

    oooooooohhhhh! Bloody! 🙂

  24. Maria_Spain says:

    give meeeeeeee!!!!! :'(

  25. Mary-Rose says:

I still believe what MissThing says was utter rubbish and fan fic. I’m trying to find where I read he’s not being truthful but it’s disappeared again, also I had other things to do.

I you really want to know it’s about him supposetivley being single and how he has a history of controdicting himself. At first I thought it was DL being overacting as usual but then they had some points

Or maybe I should go back to not reading DL? Might be best

    • Janeite says:

No. What would be best would be if you would stop trolling and dropping hints and trying to get someone to take the bait. Please stop.

    • fruitloops says:

      @Mary-Rose
Oh, lighten up, celebrities contradict themselves the second they open their mouth, and sometimes even before that, it’s kinda all part of the showbizz game. It’s hardly about honesty, it’s more likely about selling the product, and TH is hardly the first one playing it for the fame and money (Liberace comes to mind as the most obvious example of this).
So, just sneak a peak at the photos above and brighten your day, you know you want it, don’t resisit it 😉

  26. Mary-Rose says:

I want to apologise to @janeite. I’ve decided to to look at DL again.

I was going to come back with the link but it had disappeared. Then I had to finish off an essay. I didn’t intend to troll

  27. Kate says:

Yes where *is* MissThing today? Hmm.

    • Mary-Rose says:

I don’t know but I hope she doesn’t comeback. I don’t like being compared to her and her fan fiction

    • Janeite says:

Kate, please do not feed the troll or bring up that name. Please just don’t.

    • Mary-Rose says:

For crying out loud my only mistake was not putting on the flaming link at the time. When I went back to get it, the source had gone.

I’m not the first person to fall for a rumour and I won’t be the last. I just wanted reassurance that it was rubbish just like missthing.
I’m not going on that site again anyway anymore. I probably won’t post on here anymore either if you all jump at me.

I have never ever trolled and never will. You must know me by now that it’s usually me calling the trolls bluff.

I’m sorry if I annoyed anyone. Now lets look at those photos again

      • Janeite says:

Good. Leave and don’t come back.

“The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

      • Mary-Rose says:

I protest at being called a troll when I’m not. That is what bothers me. I also as Tom’s fan got every right to be here too.
I’ve never started any rumour whatsoever.

      • Roberta says:

“I didn’t intend to troll” – you said so yourself.

MaryRose I don’t know how old you are but “I had to finish off an essay” has just confirmed what I have thought for some time. I think I know what’s going on with you but I’m not going to drag these posts down any further.

Please just everyone return to the fun.

        Lovely pics!

  28. Ginger says:

    Me Likey!!!

  29. Miss M says:

    H.O.T!

    My baby… 🙂

  30. Naddie says:

My crush was fading, but it’s good to feel it comes back when I see him. And man, I want to be that actress.

  31. Miss Jupitero says:

I look forward to seeing this in January!

And I am dearly hoping that the fangirl feeding frenzy fades away a bit. It is time for him to just dig into acting and get on with things.

    • Janeite says:

Are you seeing it on the 30th in a cinema? You will have to let us know your thoughts. I am pleased that the reviews have been good. I have liked what I have seen so far from the pics and serious theatre critic reviews. I’m still on the fence about whether or not that shower scene is really necessary so I will be anxious to hear what others think.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I am as well, and I will definitely share my thoughts.

I’ve heard some mixed reviews (e.g., Daily Fail) but the ones that I think count the most are good.

      • Janeite says:

Cool! Thanks in advance! From what I understand the Daily Mail (Fail, heh) is not exactly the most reliable or respected paper in the UK. It wasn’t a totally horrible review, just somewhat mixed, as you said. Hadley Fraser has come in for some criticism that he overplays his character. But that may be due more to the director than to him. I am happy to see all of the women getting well reviewed too.

  32. Ginger-rose says:

Oh, ok, so we’re not allowed to have dissenting opinions here? We’re only allowed to post missives that indicate that Tom is a near-deity? That’s ridiculous!

I used to really like the guy, and I still want to, but anymore when I read about him and see the things he does, my b.s. detector goes off. And yes, to some degree, I think he DOES owe a certain amount of honesty to his fans.

I won’t troll here, but holy crap, I’m not gonna treat the guy as a flawless deity who can do no wrong. I don’t care what anyone looks like, or how talented they are–if you’re a bad person, you suck and your talent matters not a wit. At least to me. And I no longer think he’s sincere. Now that’s just MY opinion. As for everyone else…..hey, if liking him works for you, carry on, but please realize that not everyone has the same opinion as yours. Thanks for listening.

    • Janeite says:

That is fine. There is, however, a serious trolling situation going on here that needs to be stopped.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I’m stepping into the middle of this. Please bear in mind I have pretty much ignored the whole ridiculous situation and I havent followed it closely.

I think both sides of this need to stop. The batshittery over Hiddleston is just demented whether it consists of wild speculation about his personal life, digging up the floor plans for his house (this was on DL), or acting like an “attack fan” in defending the weird beatific fantasy of how perfect and unassailable he is.
He’s just an actor. Pretty good at many things but with plenty of flaws as well. He’s not the second coming.

Let’s all just turn it off, okay? And think carefully before throwing around the word “troll” because that CB just turn into a flame war very easily.

    • Janeite says:

I also want to add that I have contacted the person who I think is behind the trolling and asked them to stop via their blog . I have promised not to “out” them on here if they do stop. If not, I will alert the CB mods with what I have found out and have them handle this which I have every confidence they can do. I hope it will all end now.

    • lunchcoma says:

Getting a bad feeling from someone and saying you dislike them based on a bad feeling is just fine in my book. Don’t we all have celebrities who irritate us? There’s no need for people to bolster their claims by referring to vague rumors read elsewhere that can’t be quoted or implying a personal basis for knowledge, and it gets a little annoying when people do that.

      • Janeite says:

I agree. I have contacted this person via my own blog so if she wishes to address the issue further with me there in private she may do so. But I just couldn’t take it anymore. I sincerely hope that it all stops now. And if it doesn’t, I will address it further should the need arise.

    • Simmie says:

There’s nothing wrong with disliking a celeb because they rub you the wrong way. But this whole thing about him being “dishonest with his fans” – what does that mean? That he probably doesn’t spend all his free time breaking into dance and juggling? That maybe in his personal life he doesn’t always wax poetic about Shakespeare?

By all accounts he’s friendly to his fans. What else is someone supposed to do? If he was participating in Charlie Sheen-like behavior behind closed doors that would be different, but no celebrity owes it to the public for their life to be an open book.

      • Ginger-rose says:

My final words on the subject, as I don’t want to engage in arguments here: when *I* say I don’t believe him to be honest, I mean I question whether his behavior and sentiments toward his fans are genuine. I am not the only one to have questioned his behavior in the past; unlike me, however, they were smart enough to have left one comment and let it go. I question the sincerity of the comments he makes. I also say that if you want the spotlight, you take what comes with it–and while that DOESN’T mean that you must ABSOLUTELY disclose EVERY detail of your personal life (y’all hear that, peeps?), for God’s sake–just be yourself. Look at Gwyneth Paltrow! She makes NO pretense as to who she is…and to some, she comes across as annoying (me, I have no problem with her or her website–I just don’t give it much thought), but by God, she is who she is and nobody is going to stop her! Good on her! If you’re an asshole, then by god, BE who you are–the truth will come out eventually!

To hell with the rumor mill….my final answer: I agree with the dude or whomever who wrote something to the effect of “never saw the big deal (with Hiddleston–and believe me, I TRIED. I SO wanted him to be the nice guy everyone says he is!) with him, looks or acting-wise. Hope he takes his fame and goes away.” Yeah, I’m there. Everyone else–Happy Holidays, and Happy Tom-admiring. Me, I’m gonna go back to my life now. 😉

  33. windy says:

i think these pics look great! would really love to watch the play and/or live streaming but unfortunately i live in Asia.

and i love following CB’s posts on Hiddleston and Cumberbatch. i guess i am a big fan of the two, but still have not crossed the line to become a Hiddlestoner or Cumberbitch. i like to think that i am only a “Dragonfly” and a “Cumberfan” LOL

    • Secret Squirrel says:

      We will be Cumberflies together!

      • Lucrezia says:

Given the choice of Cumberfly or DragonBitch, you went with Cumberfly?

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Yes, yes I did. Owning it and proud!!

      • windy says:

Haha yes let’s be Cumberflies! LOL

      • Lucrezia says:

But, but … you have such great taste in guys, how can you have such bad taste in fandom names?

Hmm. How can we resolve this impasse? Now that I think about it, if we’re non-fanatical fans who like both Hiddles and Cumberbatch, it seems kind of fitting that we’re open to both names: Cumberfly or Dragonbitch as preferred.

It’s either that, or pistols at dawn. Your choice. (I’m not giving up on Dragonbitch, it’s far too cool a name!)

      • LadySlippers says:

I’ll just be a CumberStone, thank you very much!

        😉

  34. windy says:

as for the comments on trolls and whether TH is a nice and honest guy, seriously…. nobody is perfect, and actors are human…. so for me, as long as they perform well on stage/tv/big screen and not do anything to hurt me personally, that’s good enough. i won’t bother thinking about whether they are honest/nice/whatever as a person. it’s all part of the entertainment biz isn’t it?

    • Janeite says:

Absolutely! The speculation about his personal life was just getting out of control and derailing every single thread. All we are owed (and I use that word loosely) by entertainers is the best performance they can give us. That is and always has been good enough for me too.

      • Luna says:

I personally think you were a bit harsh with MaryRose. Like someone pointed out she’s clearly at the other (younger) end of the fangirl age scale and can be annoying but her posts don’t scream Troll.
The fact that she somewhat apologised also tells you that. Trolls never apologise.

Said my piece, now lets drop the whole thing because it’s boarding bullying now

      • Secret Squirrel says:

Yay Windy, Yay Janeite. Finally someone who gets that there is a public person and a private person in every celebrity. Even if they give some of the private life up to the fans, they have the right to withdraw it if and when they choose to.

Sorry you don’t get to see Coriolanus in Asia Windy. Time to picket your local cinema! If it helps, the play will have been over for WEEKS before I get to see it “live streamed”.

On a slightly disturbing note, I like fishing for trolls sometimes! Call me mean but I love the way their memory gets all fuzzy about the details the moment you ask for clarification. I wouldn’t ever stop someone from posting though. Its all beer and skittles in Squirrel’s world!

      • Janeite says:

@Secret Squirrel Yeah, sometimes it can be fun to play with trolls. My only issue with this particular situation was that it happened on every single thread. It was just getting…ugh. I apologize to anyone if my method seemed a bit Draconian but it needed to be done. It had made posting here stop being fun and I don’t like that.

  35. Kate says:

I’m pleased for Tom that the reviews for Coriolanus have largely been positive – and he’s been singled out many times for his performance. Huzzah!

  36. Maria says:

Got our tickets to see Coriolanus in DC when they show it there. I’m looking forward to it since I can’t afford to jet over to London to see anything. I’m only a little familiar with this Shakespeare play, so it’s going to be a whole new experience, just like when I saw a pre-Band of Brothers/Forsythe Saga Damian Lewis in the RSC’s production of Cymbeline that came to DC back in the 90’s! I knew next to nothing about the play and it turned out to be a lot of fun and I loved what they did with the costumes, etc. We saw it twice, because how often do you get to see the RSC perform live if you aren’t in London?

    • Janeite says:

      Maria,
I am so damn jealous. That really was a once-on-a-lifetime opportunity. Do they show Coriolanus on Jan 30th in DC also? I have to wait until Feb 16th but better late than never.

  37. Luna says:

It’s great he’s getting good reviews.

  38. Nan says:

Of course it is disturbing, and raw and a promise of a good theatre. I find it disturbing that “sexy” is actually option.

  39. pixie-stix says:

I’m stoked the play is receiving such good notice (rose petals notwithstanding, lol) and Tom being such a Shakespeare fanboy, well I expected nothing less than top drawer effort. He must be feeling on top of the world.

I read elsewhere that Sam Mendes saw the play …no doubt there will be many more industry types coming along…it’s going to be a great run and I can’t wait to see NTLive.

I gotta say that quilted leather vest does things for me, damn he looks good.

    • Luna says:

booked my tickets for the Ntlive show in January and I can honestly say I can’t wait.

I also hope this opens new doors for him as I think he’s better than just the guy who played loki

      • pixie-stix says:

Well done – it would be great to read your views afterwards. I have to wait until Feb, boo (my consolation is I’m seeing Only Lovers Left Alive in Jan!).

I agree, re: moving passed Loki…he needed opportunity and Coriolanus could be very helpful to that end. Who knows, if the run is very popular it may get moved to a larger theater.

      • Janeite says:

        @Luna: Agreed!

@pixie-stix: If it does get moved, TH will not be in the lead role since he is supposed to film his part for Crimson Peak when the current Coriolanus run ends in early February.

    • pixie-stix says:

@Janeite – Theaters here have moved productions to other venues when they got big, months later, so it’s possible they would push the date, especially if nothing has come up for him in the interim.

      • Janeite says:

        Oh, cool! I didn’t know that! 🙂

      • icerose says:

He starts filming Crimson Peak in Feb so it’s unlikely to be a moved over right away but in some cases as with the Globe productions they revive them for a move stateside.

  40. RoseRed says:

I’m actually pretty pleasently surprised Tumblr hasn’t implod with the photos of Tom and a woman identified as his girlfriend. When Arthy was seen with him everything exploded there but now it’s pretty quiet. So perhaps Tom will actually come out with this one?
    http://redskye1972.tumblr.com/post/70533862152
Also what do you guys make out of those two fans that were a bit saddened at his response to their “I love you”?

    • Luna says:

@RoseRed first question; Because nobody cares if he has a girlfriend or not
Second question; give the guy a break two shows in one day and endless late nights. Wouldn’t you be a bit tired and grumpy too?

      • Roberta says:

@RoseRed Because it’s very unlikely she’s his gf, if anything she’s a casual hookup or fwb.

@Luna I disagree, if he took a date to a public event, there would be a tumblr meltdown.

    • Janeite says:

Tumblr hasn’t “implod” so you brought it over here to try to stir things up? How considerate of you. No, really.

    • Lilacflowers says:

RoseRed, HE has not identified anyone as a girlfriend and no woman has come forward to claim being a girlfriend. So what if he was seen in public with someone? To anyone beyond the age of 15 that doesn’t make them a couple. And so what if he is involved with someone? He never took a vow of celibacy, did he? His response to the “I love you” bit was reasonable. They don’t know him, they don’t love him. They love someone they created in their imaginations. Why are people going from website to website trying to stir something up with this? The real reason for outrage is that someone was STALKING him. That’s insane and possibly criminal.

      • windy says:

@Lilacflowers I was very creeped out when I saw the stalker photos and video too from a link on DL. Makes me feel slightly sorry for the guy. I agree with your views though, so what if he was out with a female, may not mean anything…and even if it does, it’s his life and his right to see whoever he wants. Even if some fangirls are construing this as him “lying”, seriously, so what?! Was hoping to read reviews on the play itself on CB and on DL, but every thread which starts out as innocent always morphs to this debate on whether he is honest or lying and whether he is seeing XYZ or not. SIGH!!!!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Windy, all reviews I’ve seen in the serious British press, not the fangirl crap, have been fabulous. I’m looking forward to the live broadcast. All this bit about “lying” is utterly ridiculous. What are they claiming he lied about? That he wasn’t married? He’s not. That he’s not living with someone? At the time of the interviews, he wasn’t and there isn’t anything new to indicate that he is. He isn’t engaged either or hasn’t announced an engagement. That he went on two dates with somebody and didn’t consider that a committed relationship? How would that possibly be a lie? Anyone who thinks that 2-3 dates with somebody means a person is no longer single is living in a twisted fantasy world. You’re right, he has the right to do whatever he wants in his personal life and nobody should ever stalk another person.

  41. Badger says:

Haven’t seen the play, but my impression of the shower scene staging was that it was probably the easiest way to get the actor cleaned up while keeping him on stage. If you’re going to cover him in blood to show the badass soldier, followed by scenes where he’s dealing with the Roman Senate (bear in mind it’s been a while since I’ve read the play, I haven’t SEEN the play yet, so all this is pure speculation on my part), and it’s a small venue (and Donmar is VERY small), then an onstage shower… kinda makes sense. If anyone has seen the play, please comment!

  42. Luna says:

We don’t know how many dates that he’s been on with this young lady so none of us can really comment. If it is Wimbledon lady (that tumblr didn’t care about at the time) that he denied dating then he could be accused of lying. The truth is we don’t know and tbh I certainly don’t care. How many of us would publicly announce when we went on a date?

Lets get it in perspective. He wasn’t caught doing anything bad or against the law – hundreds of men go shopping with women everyday, the only people who were breaking the law was the girls stalking and harassing him.
