Do you ever see guys out and about and think “that guy would be hot if he didn’t look like a d-bag?” I do that all the time, because it’s my job to notice hot guys. That’s what this new photo of Hugh Jackman reminded me of. There are plenty of guys that look attractive to me, if only they would get makeovers.

So here we have Hugh Jackman looking like an 80s throwback with a tiny little mullet behind a ceasar ‘do. It’s amazing how hairstyle changes can completely alter a person’s look. (See: Javier Bardem in various roles.)

In Hugh’s case, this is a minimal change and yet he still looks like a different person. He has this hair for a role, of course. Hugh instagrammed this photo with the caption “Day 1 on Chappie! Vincent is born, rocking the mullet. Working with Neill Blomkamp in SA. This film is rad.”

Blomkamp is the South African director behind sci fi films District 9 and Elysium. Both movies were highly entertaining for me, although I found the moralizing a little heavy-handed and clumsy at times. Chappie is about a robot “kidnapped by two criminals” who “becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family.” Sharlto Copley (the lead human character in District 9) plays robot Chappie, and I would guess that Jackman is one of the criminals, as evidenced by that haircut.

This leads us to our title question: would you hit it? As Hugh Jackman, there is never any question in my mind. But if I didn’t know who this was, and if I saw an otherwise hot guy with this styling, he would go in the “d-bag, needs makeover” pile. That’s the magic of Hollywood, which transports us to a place where one of the hottest, most gracious movie stars is a fug jerk.
