2014 Grammys Open Post: Hosted by Macklemore’s LGBT alliance

wenn20884004

This is your 2014 Grammys Open Post. The Grammys begin at 8 pm on CBS, and I believe the E! red carpet begins at 6 pm (EST). It seems weird to have obsessive coverage of Grammys fashion because the overwhelming majority of Grammys fashion is crap, or just stunt-queen drama, trying to get attention. Still, we’ll give them all what they want tomorrow: attention, and plenty of it.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are scheduled to perform “Same Love” (their gay-marriage anthem) with Madonna at the Grammys. It’s not really a performance I’m looking forward to, mostly because I think “Same Love” is a great song and Madonna is going to make it all about Madonna. Still, it will be good to see Macklemore. He’s our Open Post Host! CB wants him to win Best New Artist too.

There are some other big performances to look for tonight: Jay-Z and Beyonce will be performing together, which I think means that we’ll be hearing “Drunk In Love”. Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry, Blake Shelton, Pink, Sara Bareilles, Taylor Swift, Metallica, John Legend, Imagine Dragons, Lorde and Paul McCartney will all be performing as well. Robin Thicke will perform with Chicago (WTF?) and Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder will perform with Daft Punk – that’s the one I’m waiting for. I bet that’s the best combo. There’s also going to be this combo: Nine Inch Nails, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Dave Grohl. For real. I don’t think Lady Gaga is performing though… surprised?

Anyway, we’ll do full Grammy coverage tomorrow and we’ll be commenting and tweeting throughout the Grammys. My Twitter is KaiseratCB, Bedhead’s Twitter is BedheadatCB and Celebitchy is Celebitchy.

Can we haz Trent Reznor pictures tomorrow?

  2. Nev says:

    Pharell is stylin!!!!

  3. QQ says:

Kendrick Lamar looks amazing full stop

also Amber Rose is looking ridiculously fine!!!

Hiiiii Bitchies Ima be here all night especially after twitter kicks me (quciferskittles follow me bbs!)

  4. Gabby says:

I need some Dave Grohl coverage in my life.

    • littlestar says:

This is not really in response to you, but just wanted to say that Dave Grohl performed on one of the Queens of the Stone Age albums years ago, so it’s really not surprising that they are performing together tonight. Interesting to see how NIN will factor into their performance.

      • Victoria1 says:

Both bands are set to tour New Zealand and Austrailia sometime soon. I wish I could go. Wah.

  5. QQ says:

Katy Perry is in a costume again, such a cheeseball

  6. dread pirate cuervo says:

Katy Perry’s dress makes her look preggers.

    • GiGi says:

I agree! It’s Valentino Spring Couture straight off the runway. She usually has a pretty tiny waist, and I loathe a bump watch, but it *may* be called for here!

  7. Alexandra says:

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are sweeping!! Already won pretty much everything (except video) in the pre-telecast. Rooting really hard for them, it would mean so much a Song of the Year win for “Same Love”.

  8. LadyRay says:

Gah, I’m gonna say it.. I can’t stand Macklemore.

  9. Josephine says:

Is Kayne there? I can’t imagine his baby mama missing an opportunity to leave the kid at home and show off her rack in ill-fitting and unflattering clothing. But more importantly, what was his reaction to losing for best rap album?

  10. Jayna says:

Taylor Swifit’s Gucci gown was perfection.

    Madonna and her grillz. Ugh.

    • QQ says:

the SLAGGING black twitter is giving Madonna and her #disnigga fallout child trotting is EPIC to behold

      • Jayna says:

I can imagine. LOL Rocco at 14 is at the age that he would have been the child there with her. He’s been everywhere with her this year, like Lola was back at that age. Rocco performed on tour with her and is really into show business right now. She never brought her children as young as David to an adult late-night event, only to children’s movie premieres. So it was so transparent why she brought little David and not Rocco.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

        @Jayna
That was my first thought when I saw that pic of Madonna and David–she brought him because of that f*kery she did on twitter a few days ago. God, Madonna. Just say sorry and promise you’ll watch a few civil rights videos to educate yourself…which isn’t a bad idea.

    • ScrewStewrat99 says:

Madonna really bugged me. The interviewer was trying to talk to her son and she kept talking over her son like she needed the attention or something. I don’t know she just bugged me lol

    • dread pirate cuervo says:

I think I’d like it better without the sleeves. Like Ginger from Gilligan’s Island. But it fits her perfectly.

    • Rose says:

Madonna is out of touch. Grillz were worn out many years ago. At one point she told David to stop talking when he was clearly more interesting than her.

I LOVED Taylor’s dress. I never say that but damn it was gorgeous

      • Jayna says:

I know. She’s so far behind that it’s embarrassing, and even worse than that, she’s following Miley Cyrus wearing them first as a white pop star. Poor Madonna. She used to bring underground trends in and ride it into mainstream consciousness. Not anymore, always after they’re on their way out. Plus add the fact she’s 55 and wearing grillz. Oh, Madonna, what happened to you? Rihanna can pull that stuff off, and you are not Rihanna.

    • Janet says:

I have to give Taylor Swift her props. She annoys the bejesus out of me but I’ve never seen her make a fashion misstep on the red carpet. That dress she had on tonight was drop-dead gorgeous. Elegant and classy and she was wearing the hell out if it.

  11. Emma13 says:

P!nk looks amazing tonight! Best dressed so far.

  12. QQ says:

Oh Look Ya’ll Paula Patton Is drunkhighfuglilydressed as per usual

  13. Nev says:

Madonna and David. Very cute. Yayyyy!!!

  14. cr says:

Why is Paris Hilton at the Grammys and WTF is she wearing?

  15. Tiffany says:

Beyonce so far is not bringing her A game to her performance. Not a great song to begin with. You are better than ass shaking.

    • dread pirate cuervo says:

That song sucked, but her body is amazing. Somebody should’ve told Miley you don’t go out with no pants on unless you have an ass like that.

      • QQ says:

They almost gave a heart attack to CBS with the ass grabbage and basically like a minute and changed bleeped off the performance

    • Jayna says:

I agree. I was disappointed in that.

    • Nancypie says:

Yeah ummm, way to open the Grammys at 8 pm. Nice tasteful outfit on Beyoncé. Ok, we’ll now we know, it’s not family friendly programming

    • Rose says:

Beyonce is just phoning it in. She puts out mediocre albums and her hardcore fans keep buying them. I haven’t been entertained since BDay.

    • littlestar says:

I thought it was a good performance but yes, the song sucks. The whole album is subpar imo (although there is a couple of good songs on there). She’s no where near the level of songwriting she used to be at (or whoever writes her songs for her).

      • Thunderthighs says:

Sssshhhh! Be quiet before the BeyHive descends upon you!!
But, I agree with you. The album is subpar… Is that maybe the reason why it’s being touted as a ‘visual experience’? As in, get confused by her crotch and ass and forget about how the music is actually not at it’s best?
        *Ducks shoe*

  16. Becky1 says:

I know I’m going to sound like a prude, but did they really need to open the show with Beyonce singing a profane song with bleeped out lyrics, gyrating and shaking her thong wearing ass? Couldn’t that have been saved for later in the show? 8:00 PM is a little early for that kind of stuff.

    • mscatra says:

Beckys must think alike, because I totally agree.

    • Nancypie says:

Nope – bothered me too. I Just called my girls back so they could see Lorde, at least.

    • Kate says:

you’re not a prude. Beyonce’s lack of clothing, usually a** shaking etc reminds me of the Destiny Child “Nasty”. Wonder how B, feels out that song now

    • Mo_cheeks says:

You are absolutely not a prude. That performance was pathetic and gross. Beyonce has jumped the shark

  17. QQ says:

Gawd, Lorde’s Voice is so so good and husky

    • Nancypie says:

      She was so great!!!!

    • mayamae says:

My mom was put off by her twitchy performance. I had to explain the song to her. Have to say, I loved Lorde singing a song mocking the very people who were in the audience hanging on her every note.

    • Chloe says:

I’m just happy to hear someone actually sing,I’m tired of these so called singers lip syncing so they can shake their boodies around the stage.

      • TrustMeOnThis says:

But, but… Beyonce was really singing! She even did that thing where she pulls out her ear monitor during the song and everything! And the little giggle totally looked real!

      • Mickeyboy says:

Both Beyonce and Lorde were lip-syncing. In Lorde’s case, she had an “ashlee-simpson” moment: the track started before the mic was at her mouth. Watch it back and you’ll see- it’s in the beginning.

I also didn’t like the opening. It just wasn’t very entertaining. I couldn’t help thinking about Madonna’s tour (Express Yourself?) and those Jean-Paul Gaultier costumes and the chairs. The tour that “Truth or Dare” tour.

Anyway- the lamest about the opening? They just walked off the stage. I don’t need fireworks to end a number, but they walked off as if they performed in my mother’s basement.

    • K3LLSSS says:

Lorde looked like she took some Quaaludes and was in the cerebral palsy phase during her performance.

  18. Leila in wunderland says:

The best looks of the night so far for me (I haven’t seen everyone) are Pink, Chrissy Teigen, and Colbie Callait.

  19. Jayna says:

Lorde slayed that song. Now, that’s a performance. I still can’t get over how beautiful Taylor’s gown was.

    • Autumn says:

Taylor’s dress is stellar! Lorde sounded amazing. Beyoncé’s ass shaking, thong wearing performance was a little too much in my opinion.

    • whateveryouwantittobe says:

I am obsessed with Lorde. I’m 30 years old and haven’t given 2 craps about popular music since the 90s but this girl has made me go fan girly. Helps I’m a kiwi too but she is just so damn good.

Sidenote, personally I liked seeing Beyonce’s ass. Reminds me I need to do more squats so I can dance around pretending I’m her.

      • Rose says:

Lorde’s album is fantastic. Her music is good because it appeals to a wide age range. My coworkers range in age from mid 20s to mid 50s and we’ve all jammed to her.

  20. Kim1 says:

Grammy producers knew she was going to perform “Drunk in Love” so they are at fault for having them open the show.
Im disapponted that mediocre Macklemore Lewis beat Kendrick.

  21. Jayna says:

Paul McCartney’s wife looks so much younger than her fifties. But does anyone think she resembles John Lennon? It always throws me when I first see her, because I always am struck by that at first.

  22. here's Wilson says:

the best thing about b is Jay

    Lourde rocked it

  23. M.A.F. says:

The Grammy’s is the one award show I don’t like to watch/never make a point to watch it. One because for whatever reason even though it is held in LA we get it three hours later (no award show should be broadcast at 8 pm) and two, I just don’t follow music like I use to. When I was a teenager I could tell you every rock and pop song on the radio but now. So many of these bands sound the same to me, all the folk-rock bands seem to have at least one female and one male singer with band names that sounds as if they made it up when they were kids. I miss my 90s angst. So with the show, when I do watch it, I have no idea who any of those people are and it seems they have the same people perform year after year.

And this was longer than I meant too.

    • Jayna says:

I would say watch it this year. This year they are mixing it up with lots of different age artists and genres. I really enjoyed Robin Thicke and Chicago.

      • M.A.F. says:

I’m reading through the post and so far Beyoncé sounds as if she is reaching and that the opening when it is finally shown on the West it will be a different performance than what the East coast got. And that Lorde sounds amazing.

Edit: seen both videos of the ladies and I couldn’t understand half of what Beyoncé was singing. Either sing live or have subtitles. Terrible.

      • Kate says:

I like Chicago, wish we could have heard them sing their classics instead of Robin Thicke

    • Sassy says:

Tagging Kate’s comment My sentiments exactly. I wanted to hear the Chicago original version, but NO, we had to listen to the weak voiced Robin Thicke. The beginning song, by the original singer from Chicago was great, then Thicke mucked it up and I am mad.

  24. Lunchcoma says:

Who thought it would be a good idea to pair Robin Thicke with Chicago? There was no way Thicke was going to come out of that looking good.

    • Jayna says:

I enjoyed it. I thought he did a really good job with them. But Chicago’s amazing, timeless music will show up a lot of tonight’s present day songs.

      • Lunchcoma says:

It looks like opinions differ on this one! I liked the Chicago parts of it, but thought Thicke sucked all the air out of the performance. But I’m admittedly biased – I’m not a fan of his.

    • M.A.F. says:

      Huh?

That was all I could think of. And now I’m laughing trying to picture the performance.

    • littlestar says:

I thought it was good! Sure it wasn’t “hip”, but their styles meshed well.

  25. Tiffany says:

Robin Thicke is quite the showman. Also, Keith Urban’s haircut and highlights are better than mine.

    • Chloe says:

I just said the same thing about Keith’s highlights, I’m jealous, I liked the Chicago /Thicke combo.

    • whateveryouwantittobe says:

Good point, I could never fall for a dude with such pretty hair. Same with actors, I can never take them seriously because all I imagine is them pouting and posing for photoshoots.

  26. Jayna says:

I own every single John Legend album. I love this man.

  27. Jayna says:

When did Taylor Swift start singing so good live? The last few performances I have seen have actually been really good. I am puzzled. She used to be so flat sounding and even worse in her duets with famous singers. I know on her fast songs she uses auto-tune, but her guitar and piano ballads she has been sounding much better. What was up with her hair flipping? LOL

  28. Chloe says:

So happy to see Dave Grohl and the rest of the FF winning a Grammy with Sir Paul, now I’ve got to find this song online.

  29. Franny Days says:

    Taylor Swift actually sounded excellent.

  30. QQ says:

Is Taylor Swift able to do anything other than Breakup Songs? I should have taken the opportunity to walk my doggies

    • M.A.F. says:

I hope at some point she can grow as a writer but right now she writes what she knows.

      • Lunchcoma says:

I’m not going to give her a pass on that anymore. She’s 24. That’s a year younger than Adele, who writes songs about relationships from a more complex perspectives, and it’s many years older than Lorde, who writes songs about various subjects.

Taylor didn’t just leave some high school or small town, and if she’s lacking in life experiences, I’d suggest that’s partly by choice. More likely, she hasn’t had much push to grow creatively because people continue to buy her music. I don’t think we’ll see any growth until her sales drop off.

      • M.A.F. says:

You know, I keep thinking Swift is younger than 24. And the comparison to Adel is spot on.

    • Alyce says:

I was actually surprised at how good she was and I thought the song was good too! I guess I need to listen to her stuff – I had the impression that she wasn’t a good singer but apparently I shouldn’t believe everything I read on Celebitchy ;-). I think Taylor, Lorde, and Kendrick were all really good.

      • Jayna says:

She’s given plenty of bad or flat vocal performances, believe me. Her duet with Stevie Nicks was so bad. She seems to be getting better live this past year.

  31. Lela says:

My eyes are still sore from Katy Perry’s outfit. Thank Goth it’s over.

  32. QQ says:

I don’t care if Pink keeps doing acrobatic performances, I’m always gonna be here for her and for it and there will NEVER be Pink Shade coming out of my Whore mouth

Think about what she just did ya’ll??!! acrobatic work, lifted a dude, danced, changed clothes all while singing live, missing no beats and looking like an Amazonian goddess

    • jjva says:

yup. I love her and her little family. So awesome.

    • LahdidahBaby says:

A-freaking-men, QQ! I expected everyone to be SO blown away by Pink’s gutsy and graceful performance, and afterwards I looked for reviews of it everywhere and saw NADA, ZILCH! WTF? It was stunning, pyrotechnic, brave, thrilling, f*cking FABULOUS!

  33. Rose says:

    PINK! Bow down bitches.

  34. Tiffany says:

Pink. I love you. That is all.

  35. Jayna says:

I will always bow down to Pink. Her concert last year was a total high for days for me because she was so amazing.

Go, Lorde. She deserves the win.

  36. Camille (TheOriginal) says:

So proud of Lorde on her win. It is always amazing to see Kiwis do well.

  37. here's Wilson says:

ringo starr…. no I’m not feeling it

I love pink… she’s always going to hold a soft spot with

  38. Tiffany says:

Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar. Absolutely fantastic.

  39. littlestar says:

Ugh Jamie Foxx is an absolute moron. I felt huge second hand embarrassment for him.

  40. QQ says:

My face MELTED from how hard Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons rocked that shit out – best of the night right after would be Pink for me… Rodeo Barbie follow up should really have declined to follow them up That WAS DRASTIC

    • April says:

I know, her performance was very underwhelming, following a great performance, or not.. She should have picked a different song.

    • Rose says:

I couldn’t agree more. Mr Rose was actually listening to “rodeo barbie”. He said there was a line about rolling joints. Seems interesting enough but she lost my interest as soon as the neon cacti and boots lit up.

    • Samantha25 says:

I agree that having Kasey Musgrave after Kendrick and Imagine Dragons was bizarre. I hate how the cameras kept focusing on Taylor. I guess people think she’s cute dancing but she looks ridiculous. It was especially annoying because a great performance was being missed.

      • Jayna says:

I felt sorry for the people behind them who couldn’t see, but I’ve always kind of loved her enthusiasm for other performers.

      • mayamae says:

I don’t care for her voice – it’s weaker and breathier than Taylor Swift’s.

    • littlestar says:

LMAO! My husband said the exact same thing. Poor girl having to go on with her guitar and yodel while everyone is still thinking about that amazing Imagine Dragons performance.

  41. Macey says:

Im bummed I missed Pink’s performance, anyone find any video yet?
I loved Kendrick Lamar and Lorde, so far my favs but then Ive only seen a few. i usually cant sit thru these things.

  42. shellybean says:

OF COURSE Julia gets to introduce Paul and Ringo!

  43. Jayna says:

Sir Paul, 71 and still jamming. The guy put out a new album, has been touring large arenas and stadiums doing three-hour shows because of his extensive solo and Beatles catalogue. People rave about his concerts even at this age with some vocal deterioration and fill the venues, all generations of families many times. I hope I’m that passionate about something when I get older.

He sounded great on Yesterday when he came here this year. It makes me cry, that song.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9aHt4JuVl4

    • Shannon1972 says:

My family are complete Beatles nuts, including their various solo work (John, the *very* under-rated George -“All Things Must Pass” was genius- and of course Paul) . We took our kids to see Sir Paul when the new Yankee Stadium opened a few years ago. His voice and energy level were amazing, and we loved every single second. The man knows how please a crowd! I’ve seen many concerts, and some breath taking performances (U2 was almost a religious experience back in the day), and Paul McCartney at almost 70 was among the very best.
It was the boys’ first arena concert and I am so glad that they will always remember seeing Paul McCartney! I just love him….such a treasure.

  44. Lunchcoma says:

Why do you insisting dressing like a hit man, Jeremy Renner?

    • Chloe says:

The outfiit was bad, but the man’s constant use of eyeliner is what get’s me, I love him as an actor but good God man layoff the makeup. I just don’t get all of these actors introducing these acts, the match-ups seem weird and don’t get started about Julia.

  45. Lunchcoma says:

I know the Muskogee song is meant to be ironic, but it’s still hilarious to hear proclamations against marijuana in such close proximity to Willie Nelson.

  46. InVain says:

What’s going on with Kris Kristofferson? I know he’s old…but….?

    • mayamae says:

He’s always been a horrible singer, but a great song writer. All the outlaws sounded like they were lost and confused, maybe that’s why Blake Shelton was up there.

      • Jayna says:

I know. It’s like no one knew what their place was to come in.

      • whateveryouwantittobe says:

Hahahaha! They totally did look lost and confused. Kris was pretending to play guitar not even in time it was so funny. I love those guys, and love Highwayman, …but it did look a bit like a retirement home talent show. Blake Shelton was the only one up who didn’t seem spaced out or brain damaged.

      • Syko says:

I was so disappointed in this part of the show. I love all three of those guys, but every one of them was born in the 1930s, so they aren’t spring chickens. Kris never was a good singer, he just wrote awesome songs…Willie has always had weird phrasing…but usually Merle doesn’t change the melody for his songs. I’m not fond of Blake Shelton at all, but have to say he was the only one of them that was able to sing tonight.

      • LahdidahBaby says:

Yah, they all looked & sounded like they escaped from the home. Sad. Embarrassing.

      • mayamae says:

It’s supposed to be very hard to sing with Willie Nelson. Tanya Tucker says it’s because he sings before the beat instead of with the beat. Sheryl Crow said she was told – you can’t sing WITH Willie, you have to just sing louder than him.

  47. Tiffany says:

Biggest star of the night, Pharrell Williams’ hats. Also, I covent Niles Rogers suits. He is stuck on the 70’s and I LOVE it.

  48. QQ says:

Pharrell Daft Punk Stevie and Nile Really just made my heart smile

with their mic issues Im still saying:

    Kendrick and Imagine Dragons

    Pink

    Daft Punk and Co

    Beysus Christ…. Thus far

  49. Jayna says:

Carole King is 71. She looks and sounds fantastic.

  50. Rudgies says:

I would bat for the other team with Pink any day. She is always on point.

  51. mayamae says:

Why was Beyoncé drinking brandy? No one else has a drink in their hand.

  52. Samantha25 says:

Felt a little sorry for Taylor. She thought she won “Album” for a second and tried to cover it.

  53. antisocial says:

If P!nk is performing – everyone else can go home. Pure passion and sweat and skill.

  54. Nancypie says:

Why did Madonna have a cane?

  55. Janet says:

A friend of mine said tonight you know you’re getting old when you can’t tell the artists’ names from the album titles. Who the hell is Lorde??

  56. Side-Eye says:

Macklemore beating Kendrick is complete and utter bullshit.

  57. Tara says:

    Yea Macklemore! We love you!!

  58. Anastasia Beaverhausen says:

So happy for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis!! 🙂 Been a fan since I first heard Irish celebration a couple years ago. I got to see them perform at my uni last semester. When they did Same Love, tears.

  59. Marty says:

How was Taylor’s album Red up for Album of the Year when it was realeased in 2012?

    • m says:

The cut off date for the Grammys is September 1 in order to be nominated the following year. Red was released in October which automatically meant it had to wait until 2014 to be nominated.

  60. lady mary. says:

good lord ,that was one strange show ,pink ,queen latifah presiding over marriage were the best parts , Lorde ‘spastic dancing was too much ,is it so hard to stand straight and belt out the song , iam dying to put on my conspiracy tin foil hat ,the symbolisim in the whole show was so in ur face , or was it just my mind overthinking stuff

  61. P.J. says:

This post should have been hosted by Macklemore’s arms 😍 Good GOD.
