I could literally spend the rest of the day just posting vintage Bennifer 1.0 photos, especially these photos where The Ghost of Wife Future, Jennifer Garner, looms over Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez prophetically. Anyway, y’all know I love some vintage Bennifer. God, those were the days. I have vivid memories of the Bennifer mess. It was glorious, it was fun, and it was crazy… and I still can’t believe both J.Lo and Affleck survived their coupling and subsequent implosion. Of course, it took years for Ben to really get his groove back.
So, why am I posting this glorious vintage photos? Well, Jennifer Lopez was doing a radio interview and she was asked a hypothetical about which of her ex-boyfriends she would save in a “raft in the middle of the ocean” type of situation. Her answer was really funny.
Jennifer Lopez deflected an incredibly awkward interview question on L.A.’s Power 106 station Monday, March 10 regarding her exes Ben Affleck and Sean “Diddy” Combs by taking the diplomatic route — sort of.
“You’re on a raft in the middle of the ocean,” show host Big Boy explained to the gorgeous star. “Oh, that would give me so much anxiety,” interrupted Lopez, 44. “Oh, this about to give you more anxiety,” Big Boy responded.
“You look in the ocean, you see two people floating,” the host continued. “You can only pull up one, because that’s how much room you have on the raft. You look in the ocean, you see Ben Affleck and you see Diddy.”
Lopez, as soon as she heard Affleck’s name, started laughing. After Diddy was named as the second option, she erupted into a full fit of giggles. “I’d let both those motherf–kers drown!” she yelled. (The star famously dated Combs, who once went by the moniker Puff Daddy or “Puffy,” from 1999 to 2001, and was with Affleck — to whom she was briefly engaged — from 2002 to 2004.)
Immediately realizing the weight of her words, Lopez quickly chimed, “That’s terrible, I’m just joking!” Extending her hand at the video camera, J.Lo added, “Ben, Puffy, you know I love you. You know it!” She added to Big Boy, “They know it…”
Still, Lopez wasn’t happy about the line of questioning on Monday’s chat. “This is the worst interview ever!” she bellowed.
I want to think that Jennifer’s first instinct was the one she really feels. While I’ll buy that Jennifer and Puffy are still on friendly terms – I’ve always thought he carried a flame for Jennifer for years and years after their split – I really doubt that Ben and J.Lo have any residual warmth towards each other. And so yeah, she’d probably let that motherf—er drown. Own it, J.Lo.

Her life is STILL entertaining…I still can’t believe that out of all the hot pieces with muscles that she has surrounding her, she had to go with the weird looking one (and that’s being NICE).
I mean dang, Madonna has better game and taste–and she doesn’t look half as good as JLo. Plus she knows how to keep her side pieces in line–they’re not giving interviews saying that they’re the ‘head choreographer’ for her show….

I have always thought that J Lo has distanced herself from Pdiddy because he really was involved in the shooting that he blamed on his limo driver and she witnessed it.

Agree – these two were so hot together it’s palpable even in still photos. So many Hollywood romances are PR setups, but not this one. They were mad for each other.

Really? It’s interesting how everyone has a different view of the same thing. I think he looks miserable now, with Garner. I agree that he looked PO’d when the paps were chasing him during the JLo years, but it seemed to like the relationship between the two of them made him very happy. Who knows?
I like Ben 100% more now that he’s with Jennifer Garner, a great mother and woman, a good example for other women. But JLo, Ugggg is all I can say. I’m sure JLo would be difficult and really test a relationship. It’s a well known fact that she has this huge, pushy entourage do her bidding. I’m so glad it turned out this way….I’m sure she has no trouble calling the shots with Casper.
Omg yes lol I feel bad saying that cuz I like Garner and of course they have kids, but you can’t deny those two were crazy for each other. Like Jennifer is very pretty but JLo is a BOMBSHELL and still looks it. You could tell that Ben adored her. I do think they were very happy righ until the last moment.
I’m not even a big fan of hers but Bennifer kinda started it all. It was such a roller coaster ride of two beautiful people that even though it didn’t last and produced terrible films, I still remember it fondly.

Hi the thing that always annoyed me with Jlo and the whole Bennifer case was how ‘American’ she was, it like she bleached her hair blonde, tanned her self and wore floral dresses. She look like she was somehow trying not to be a latino but an all american women to please Ben, does that make sense? I always got the feeling that during that time she was trying to distract herself from her latino root and trying to be more mainstream and too fit in.
I always felt she was more latin and more into her root when she was Puff Daddy, I didn’t get that vibe when she was Ben.

She didn’t really need to be tanned as she is Latin so olive to begin with. She looks so young in the first photo but I must admit I love her laugh and now I can see her as one of the dancers on In Living Color. I never got Bennifer such an odd coupling.
First of all, JLO IS American she was born in New York, and there is NO American look, we are a melting pot of cultures and races, and thats fantastic…I didn’t find her toning down her Hispanic roots at all…if anyone was doing a make over, it was JLO making over Ben. He never looked better than when he was with JLO. He always looked so put together and well groomed. These days, he always looks like a bum…

OK– I think we can all gather what Anna is trying to say. She does not mean that JLO was trying to be more “American,” (as I’m certain she knows that JLO is from the Bronx) rather, Anna means JLO was “WASPY” while she was dating Ben. And I tend to agree. JLO was trying to be WASPY when she was with Ben, and Less Puerto Rican; essentially, more “white” and appeal more to the Minivan majority. While with Diddy she was more “Urban,” and played up her ‘Jenny from the Block’ persona.
I mean for both, she was definitely at different places in her life. I will say that the fact that JLO was trying to change who she was, while dating Ben, speaks volumes to their incompatibility. She felt that she needed to dilute herself, style, and culture while with Ben in order to fit in with him, his family, and his friends. Alternatively, the argument can be made that Ben tried to change himself as well. He got a tan, and was always clean shaven, with slick-backed hair. That’s never a good sign in a relationship when either one or both of the partners are changing themselves that drastically.
And JLO was a tanned mess when she was with Ben. Remember their Oscar’s appearnace? She was tanned there to the high heavens. And yes–Olive-skinned (and darker) people can get tans.

I remember very clearly an interview I read with J-LO in Cosmo. She never tanned. It was all bronzer, because she was afraid of skin cancer. Whether that makes her over tanned appearance better or worse is up to you.

Whoa, wait. J.Lo and Ben Affleck were together when he did ‘Daredevil’? I didn’t know that. It’s kind of interesting to see how differently their lives went. I’m actually surprised that Jennifer Garner got with him—he wasn’t a hot commodity at all–wasn’t he in actor jail for a good five years of their marriage–until he made ‘Gone Baby Gone’?? I think that he’s a good guy, for the most part, for her to have gotten with him when he was pretty much at his lowest point.
I’m just struck by the image of JLo in that ugly sheer, ice skaterish, if it isn’t Marchesa then I’d be VERY surprised, gown—doing the nude lip, body on display, presenting a crappy, generic action film at the freaking GOLDEN GLOBES–while your ex-fiance is in the audience with his hot wife (I LOVE Jennifer’s skin, she needs to do an interview, because her skin is always flawless) who is nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Picture—how far he’s come, without her, while she’s still doing the same old, same old.

First I must say that answer JLo gave was funny as hell.
Secondly, I also heard rumors of her and Ben still hooking up from time to time. I’m not a fan of JLo but I liked Ben with her, he had swag. With Garner he just looks like the life has been sucked out of him. Ok, that was mean but I don’t apologize for it.

I would also say I’m glad that it’s not something that he needs to hide. Like I know that there are a ton of cheating rumors—I have no clue if that’s his rep….like did the cheating rumors start up after he got with Jennifer, because he was just in a high profile relationship with Jennifer Lopez, or is it because he’s actually a cheater? Has he ever been caught w/strippers or anything like that? I heard his issue was gambling.
But anyway, if he’s friends with JLo, and he didn’t say that to the press, when asked (when he could’ve easily vetoed the question), but tried to play it off like they never spoke or anything–then I’d be pissed if I was Jennifer Garner. Because that to me makes it seem like he’s trying to hide something–even though she would presumably know that they email each other occasionally.

I’ve never understood the vitriol toward her. She is what she is. She’s harmless and entertaining enough. She’s a Latina and that’s her style. She and Ben just seemed to be completely different people at their roots. It’s no one’s “fault.” If anything, it was Ben’s fault – he chose that over the top lifestyle when was with her. To be fair to her, she does credit Diddy for connecting her to important people that helped her evolve from being somewhat famous to superstar statues. She did a documentary recently about her life and she did state that it was Diddy who advised her how to move forward with her career back then and connected her with her now long time manager Benny Medina.
PS. I always wondered if Ben and JG had any type of a romantic/fancy each other thing when they were filming Daredevil because it wasn’t that long after he and J lo broke up that her moved on with JG. Does anyone know?
there were plenty of rumors back in the day about a flirtation or even full blown affair on the Daredevil set. One story had JLo surprising them in the trailer. Recently, Ben admitted this is when he and Garner fell in love. Didn’t admit to an affair though 😉

Oh the Bennifer Chronicles are nothing if not juicy. I think Ben was caught with JLo with no way (or a very difficult way) out. Jen’s marriage it wasn’t going well though they were supposedly still trying to work it out. So I guess JG and Ben went their separate ways after filming and tried to make the best of their respective situations. I suspect Ben’s proposal to JLo was somewhat guilt fueled. The pics from that Daredevil premiere though .. the tension is palpable.

Ages ago, there was a show called Dinner for Five, or something along those lines, hosted by Jon Favreau. One night Jennifer G and Ben were on, with some other folks. I believe it was right around DD or that Electra movie came out. Anyway, JG was so gaga over Ben it was almost painful to watch. She clearly loves him, so hope he feels the same.

How many celebs have their relationships ( over 10 yrs old) analyzed ‘ad nauseum’ – as if every ingenue in LA was virginal, ,except Jennifer? Each couple broke up over a decade ago, with no reminiscent experiences. Though their break-ups were not amicable, they have crossed similar paths, and are friendly terms now.. What a silly question..
