Tiger Woods and wife Elin welcome son ‘Charlie Axel’

SAMPRAS FEDERER
Tiger Woods and his wife Elin have welcomed their second child, a son they’ve named Charlie Axel. Charlie already has a big sister Sam Alexis, born June 2007. Woods had to reject an invitation to particate in the Buick Invitational tournament because Charlie’s birth was imminent. Tiger has released a statement saying that baby Charlie and wife Elin are both doing well.

Tiger Woods is a dad again. The world’s No. 1 golfer and his wife, Elin Nordegren, welcomed a son on Sunday, reports Golf.com. Woods, 33, confirmed the family addition on his website.

The baby’s name is Charlie Axel Woods, said the proud father, adding, “Both Charlie and Elin are doing great and we want to thank everyone for their sincere best wishes and kind thoughts.”

This is the second child for the couple, whose daughter, Sam Alexis, was born in June 2007, the day after Woods placed second in the U.S. Open.

Were it not for the new arrival – and his taking time to recuperate after surgery on his knee – Woods would have been at Torrey Pines, Calif., in the final round of the Buick Invitational tournament, which he’s played in 11 times and won six, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, which first reported the birth.

But as he announced on the PGA Tour website last week: “A lot depends on the baby, which is due pretty soon. That takes precedence over anything I do golf-wise. But I must admit, I am also excited about returning to competition.”

Woods added: “Elin, Sam and I are very excited for the new baby to arrive, although that’s when the real lack of sleep begins.”

From People Magazine

Congratulations to the family! Elin used to work as a model and as a nanny, which is what she was doing when she met Tiger. She and Tiger seem very happy together, and he’s said before that she was a great support to him when his father passed away. I wonder if they’ll stop at two children now that Tiger has his son – a son that will probably be the next great golfer!

Holy shit their little girl is CUTE.

I’m sure the boy will be too!

And boy, I was bummed he wasn’t at Buick, was hoping to see him. But hey, more pressing matters, I’d say. 🙂

  5. photo jojo says:

Ugh – I don’t get ‘nicknames as given names’ trend, and I don’t get the ‘boys names as girls names’ trend either. Oh well, Sam is a cutie, I’m sure the new one is too. 🙂

  6. vdantev says:

Good on Tiger !! He still needs help with the name picking, however.

  7. lrm says:

Um,her name might be samantha, sam for short? does anyone know? and charlie’s a pretty straight up boys name…doesn’t have to be a nickname, although commonly so…but honestly,it’s like jack for john, how is charlie remotely shorter or easier to say than charles/ it’s just dimunitive, perhaps, but not really a nickname…???? see? sometimes convention makes no sense to begin with,so why feel obliged to stick with it,just b/c ‘that’s how it’s done?’

  8. mel says:

I thought he would name him after his dad but I guess not. Anyway congrats to the Woods family!

  10. Ellen Smith says:

Sam is her name – she was not named Samantha.

  11. Syko says:

That is one gorgeous little girl! I like the name “Charlie”, I have a grandson with that name who has a special place in my heart.

  12. Codzilla says:

I think Sam is a great name for a girl (and what a gorgeous little girl she is). Congrats to the family on their new addition!

  13. Anon says:

  14. Peanut says:

Yay! I’m a pretty avid golf fan and I love Tiger… congrats to the family!

As for the names, I’ve got no problem with Charlie but I was scrunching up my nose a little with “Axel”. Just makes me think of Axel Rose. 😛

  15. Diva says:

Isn’t Sam Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen’s daughter’s name, too? Not Samantha? I could be wrong… but anyway….

I like Axel, not really sure why, lol. I’m less fond of Charlie, but it’s all good, I think parents should be able to name their kids whatever means something to them, regardless of what any of the rest of us think!

  16. Whitey Fisk says:

I love the name Charlie. LOVE it. It suits both a little boy and a grown man.

Tiger’s wife is stunning. I don’t think I’ve ever really looked at her before! Wow. WOW. I do remember seeing Sam when she was a newborn, and thinking she was somewhat unfortunate-looking. My thoughts have obviously changed…that is one helluva beautiful child.

  17. sissoucat says:

Why couldn’t their girl Sam become the next great golfer ? Is golf a male-only sport ?

Besides, I read blind items on CDAN that seemed to be about him cheating while she was pregnant. Hope it’s false.

  18. gerald sherry says:

He should have been named Stay Out Of The Woods or Heir Apparent Woods. Just kidding. Congrats Tiger and Elin.

  19. Lori says:

Tiger named his daughter “Sam” because she was born the day after Father’s Day, and his late father always used to call him “Sam.” Read the story here on PEOPLE’s website:

Good post, I look forward to the rest

  21. wow, nice post. I’ve been telling me friends about this blog. They love it!

  22. Tiger has overcome alot this year and of course he will struggle when it comes to his golf game. Give it some time and if anyone can bounce back, he would be the first choice. This guy is the most gifted golfer in the entire galaxy and i’m confident the true sports fans can’t wait to see him get back to his dominance.
