Carrie Underwood vs. Christy Turlington: who rocked the Time 100 gala?

wenn21306611

Last night was the big Time 100 gala, in which people who made Time’s Most Influential People list mingled with people who didn’t. Uninfluential peasants! It was too much to hope that Benedict Cumberbatch would show up, I suppose. Instead, I guess the highlight of the evening was Carrie Underwood (she made the list) and her husband Mike Fisher. Carrie wore this antebellum-type gown by Claire Pettibone. I’m not into it. Her styling is so dated too. Also: there are rumors going around that she’s pregnant. She hasn’t confirmed anything that I’ve seen.

Christy Turlington Burns and Ed Burns. Look at the simplicity of her gown – and she just looks so classic and beautiful. She’s ageless. The dress… well, it’s a little bit weird. Is the belt a piece of string?!

Here’s Amy Adams in Tory Burch Fall 2014. She’s so pretty, but I wish she would really do high-fashion once in a while.

Martha Stewart. LOOK AT HER SPARKLY CAPRI PANTS.

Here’s Laverne Cox, Katie Couric, Ronan Farrow and Padma Lakshmi.

What in seven hells is Martha wearing?

  2. blue marie says:

Christy Turlington always, but I don’t like what she’s wearing. I think Amy Adams looks the best personally.

    • Tatjana says:

I don’t find Christy pretty at all. There’s something so strange about her face. Everything is perfect, but there’s something missing-
Amy Adams looks the best, and is hands down the prettiest woman there, IMO.
I don’t like Carries’s dress and dear God, does her husband have a giant head.
Ronan looks so incredibly creepy. And older than his age.

      • bluhare says:

It’s why she was such a good model. She’s got an otherworldly look to her, IMO. And she looks great.

Agree re Ronan. My love for him has plummeted.

      • John says:

I agree. I think she looks like an (attractive) alien.

    • Hiddles forever says:

I like Christy but not what she is wearing.

On another note, Ed Burns is aging very well, actually a lot better than some of the actors his age! What a beautiful couple (I didn’t even know they were married lol)

  3. Almondjoy says:

As much as I like Carrie, she always looks dated and old-fashioned to me. So pageanty. The makeup is very thick as well.

Christy Turlington and Katie Couric look gorgeous.

Ronan Farrow always looks so devious, lol.

  4. Penelope says:

    OH MY GOODNESS, MARTHA—JUST NO!!

  5. kri says:

Christy T. vs A Digestive Biscuit. Um, I’m going with C T on this one. And FFS, what the hell is Martha Stewart doing serving me ostrich toe covered in gold glitter at this time of day?

  6. Loopy says:

    Where is the Queen B?

  7. escondista says:

If Christy really wanted to share her excitement for the new Star Wars film she should have included the Leia hair buns. Half-assed cosplay. C-

  8. QQ says:

Carrie always looks like a well kept 45 year old yummy mummy type

Christy is still glorious to look at

    Mmmmmm Ronan Farrow…mmmmmm

  9. RobN says:

It may celebrate the 100 most influential, but it looks like they let just about anybody in.

    • jj says:

The names on the list are as big a joke as what Martha is wearing. If you are influenced by any A$$ Hole celebrity you need help.

  10. Reece says:

    Amy has the best makeup.
Carrie is painting by numbers on her face…WTW?
I like Christy and Katie’s dresses the best.
I wish I could unsee Martha Stewart.

  11. D says:

    Oh Martha…..

  12. aims says:

Ronan looks freaky here. I love the guy, but he looks like Rosemary’s baby has grown up.

    • Dani2 says:

OMG harsh but funny lol, and thanks to the unnecessary remake of that film, the first thing that comes to mind is Halle Berry’s and Zoe’s ugly $5 wig.

    • kri says:

Holy shrieking demon baby! So, I go back to look at Ronan, cause the first time round, I just looked at the women. And Gran’s Glitter Gulch( because you CANNOT look away), and I’m thinking Ronan is the product of Mia Farrow and the devil for real. And I don’t know if I entirely mind…I like the evil that oozed from this ginger Beelzebub. Can he act? Cause someone needs to put that look onscreen, even if it’s just a Lifetime movie.

    • Tiffany :) says:

He looks completely creepy in that picture! I am sure it is just the angle, but how sinister does he look?

    • Sunlily says:

      *crying*
Whew, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t the only one getting serial killer vibes from this picture. And they say pictures can’t steal souls. >_>

  13. coconut says:

    padma!

    • Froggy says:

      +1

    • bluhare says:

      Agree. Except for the shoes.

    • Jenna says:

From the neck up, totally, yes.

But whoever hemmed that dress should be flogged. Looks like someone let their 3 year old take a crack at it. You do NOT turn up 4 inches on a hem like you are making curtains, just… no. Padma, call me. I promise I wouldn’t ever let you leave the house looking like you are wearing a 4-H drapery project.

  14. InvaderTak says:

My roomates cat is named Ronan. Maybe that’s why I think Farrow always looks like a cat. The actual kitty is ginger too. They should plot something together. Preferably something that doesn’t involve scaring the crap out of me at strange hours of the night.

  15. Quinn says:

    What in Vegas hell, Martha??!!??
Geesh, at least she could have gotten the size that fit!

  16. Pants says:

Ed Burns is so hot. That is all.

  17. Lucy says:

There’s something about Ronan Farrow that’s just so…I don’t know, man. I wish he was an actor sometimes. I can totally picture him as some batshit crazy villain.

  18. SallyJay says:

Christy Turlington is a GODDESS! Not only is she incredibly beautiful and accomplished, she runs a non-profit advocacy organization called Every Mother Counts to increase education and support for maternal mortality reduction globally. She is pure class. I adore her husband too, he’s hot, incredibly smart, funny, and makes great movies. And they have a lovely family. In short, she is who I want to be when I grow up.

  19. Aysla says:

Damn, that is one hideously sparkly red carpet. The worst offender, hands down, are those sequin capris. Ronan Farrow looks serial-killer freaky, like he’s sizing you up and wondering what wine to pair with your rib, Hannibal-style.

  20. Allie says:

    Ronan F looks creepy here.

  21. Kristen says:

Has anyone seen Ronan’s show on MSNBC? How is it? I keep hearing the ratings are AWFUL.

  22. Mary says:

That was nice of Madame Tussauds to send Carrie Underwood’s wax figure since Carrie couldn’t make it.

  23. Nev says:

    Turlington Forever. STUNNING

  24. itsetsyou says:

    Love Martha’s sense of humor!

  25. Snappyfish says:

Christy!! She was one of the best models of all times (possibly the best since every photog said she was the nicest, sweetest girl) Andy Warhol once said that it was angles & oddities that the camera loved & that the truly beautiful never photographed well because the camera never knew how to handle such beauty…so if you don’t photograph well (I don’t) keep Andy’s saying in your pocket. As I like to say “it’s my story & I’m sticking to it”)

  26. Rita says:

Martha, Martha, Martha………did someone have to follow her around with a vacuum to retrieve all the gold embroidery her chafing left on the carpet?

  27. Jayna says:

Ronan Farrow looks creepy in that photo.

  28. Jayna says:

Christy looks amazing. That gown is to die for on her. She carries it off with her long lines and stands out from the usual looks you see. She is a true beauty and no face overfilled with filler and botoxed to death.

What happened to Edward’s career? In the beginning of his career, it seemed like he was going to be a triple threat, actor, director, screenplay writer. But I just never hear about him anymore, and his projects seem to fade away after being released or him talking about them the few times I saw him in interviews years ago.

  29. Jayna says:

Work it, Martha. I kind of love the Martha we’ve been seeing the past year. She’s loosened up She looks amazing for 72.

I actually like Carrie’s gown, not glittery and sparkly like usual. She’s trying with her hair. It’s softer than usual, not the usual lacquered, layered Real Housewives look. So she’s trying to update her look, but just take the extensions out. But she still keeps wearing the same makeup, and it is so dated. She’s never fresh looking with it. Heavy foundation, heavy eyemakeup circa the 80s.

  30. Sunlily says:

Major props to Laverne Cox for even showing up after Time kind of screwed her out of actually being on the list. They were foul for that, but she’s handled the situation with nothing but class and grace.

  31. aenflex says:

    1 Turlington, 2 Farrow, 3 Adams.

  32. HoustonGrl says:

As crazy/bad in a good way those sparkly capris are, nothing is worse than that string!!

  33. Nina says:

    Christy always and forever.
Love Marthas glitter-gun went crazy outfit.
What happened to padma’s neck? She bugs.

  34. SAM says:

Carrie looks great from head to toe!! She is so gorgeous and can wear anything .. So disagree with all the negative comments about her dress and makeup!!
