Jessica Alba in lace Diane Von Furstenberg at the Met Gala: staid or lovely?

Here we have Jessica Alba in gold lace Diane Von Furstenberg deep v-neck gown. Her styling is so glam and pretty, and I love her accessories. To me this dress is underwhelming though. It has some amazing details, particularly the tiered waistline which leads to the flowing skirt. I think that this is more of an awards ceremony or premiere dress than something for the Met Gala. It’s very lovely, it’s just not a standout gown.

Lea Michele tried to stand out in the wrong way, her default way, in a shiny gold backless Altuzarra dress that showed way too much of her fake cleavage. The dress has some strange bunched fabric at the waist and also features a huge slit at the side. Thirsty. And she paired it with matching gold pumps! I do like her hair and makeup though, that’s something.

Lea’s Glee costar, Dianna Agron, was much less attention-grabbing in sequin black Miu Miu with an amazing purple band across the bustline. I love how this dress mixes contemporary with 20s styling, it’s incredible. This is how you do a plunging neckline, you make it striking without the threat of a nip slip. However I do dislike her poofy hair. I thought that trend died a while ago.

Kate Mara has been blonde since early this year, and it really does not suit her. Also not suiting her: this huge Valentino with a floral pattern that looks like a tacky 80s bedspread. Maybe this dress would have worked in a bolder color, but as it is I really dislike it.

Idina Menzel/Adele Dazim was in this kind of cheesy looking sequin and tulle white Donna Karan Atelier gown. It has a long train and she just looks uncomfortable in it. Plus her styling looks amateurish. Sideswept curly hair, bright red lipstick AND a pale eyeshadow with liquid eyeliner? That’s a prom level look and she deserves better. She’s still beautiful, I just would like to see her in a more subtle look.

Alba is the best of this bunch for me, maybe could be more fitted under the bustline. There are no real knock out dresses this year.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

Hailee steinfeld was really good this year

    • Jamie says:

I thought Maggie Q wore the best dress hands down this year and she also looked the best IMO. Alba has never impressed me looks wise, I honestly think she’s overrated and this was no different.

  2. lower-case deb says:

Lea Michele’s gold dress made me miss Stacy Kiebler’s gold dress

    • ~Z~ says:

She looks so much like Penelope Cruz….I thought that’s who it was, and I have never even thought that before.

  3. Lindy79 says:

Its a nice dress but misses the theme entirely.
(I’m going to be typing that a LOT today)

  4. merski says:

Wow, so far Jessica Alba & Blake Lively are the best dressed, imo. What is this world?! What is happening?!

  5. Jade says:

I feel like I’ve seen Jessica in the same dress and styling before…

Lea Michele… So needy, so hungry for it!

Agron is stunning but that hair isn’t doing her any favours.

  6. maybeiamcrazy says:

Jessica Alba’s dress is perfect. Diana’s dress is not really my thing and her hair is ridiculous. But she is sooo pretty.

Lea Michele tries way too hard as always.

  7. yael says:

just me or is the shading used to give lea cleavage super visible/obvious?

  8. chloe says:

I like Jessica’s dress, I still don’t understand how she’s in the news, I swear all she does is push products and Instagram her kids and boom your in the rags.

  9. Kimmy says:

    Snore.

If Kate Mara’s hair was red, that dress may have been passable as at least interesting.

  10. blue marie says:

I’m not a fan of any of these. I would have liked Alba’s if it were in another color, the gold color washes her out

    • Cecilia says:

I agree…Alba’s dress is lovely but it needed to be in a different color. I quite like Kate Mara’s dress but for the life of me can’t explain why. Leah?? I just can’t with her. If I had my way I’d launch her into outer space.

  11. Janet says:

Alba looks so-so. The rest look yuck.

  12. lucy2 says:

I like Dianna’s dress, but dislike her hair.
Lea should NOT doing plunging necklines, it always looks very awkward on her. Both Jessica’s and Idina’s would have been better for an award ceremony- both are pretty, just not for this event.

  13. QQ says:

Jessica Alba In Beige is SUCH a Default Look

Lea Is wearing a Built-In Fanny Pack FFS!!

Diana Agron is like a Perpetual Old Lady Dylings *rub temples*

im not bothering with the rest

  14. Dhavynia says:

All these dresses are more for an award ceremony
    Lea is so desperate
    Dianna is so pretty

  15. Jackie Jormp Jomp says:

Ventriloquist dummy. After 10 years of seeing Cash Warren’s face, I finally figured out what he reminds me of. Finally.

  16. poppy says:

the donna karan is the best of the worst here for me. but her face is so harsh with the makeup.

  17. TG says:

Why is Alba? What is she doing at this event? She is the owner of baby and cleaning goods products. Did the people who run Palmolive and Procter & Gamble get invited? Moctress on the loose.

  18. snowflake says:

I really like jessica alba’s dress. she knows how to dress for her body/complexion. my favorite so far

    • Bridget says:

Except she didn’t dress herself. Guests are paired with designers, and are essentially just given something to wear because they’re representing the designers. So DVF is actually who knows how to dress for her complexion. And even then, it’s just a riff on something that’s already been done before on her.

  19. candy corn says:

I find Jessica Alba so humorless that it taints the way I view her “style.” The dress is pretty but on her its a meh.

  20. Happy21 says:

I am not a fan of any of the dresses really but WOW is Diana Aragon ever breathtaking. So, so pretty!

  21. Curious Cole says:

Lol, I’m not sure a v-neck cut down to her navel could ever fall into the “staid” category!
Poor Idina really does look like prom night, and thanks to John Travolta I cannot think of her without Adele Dazim popping into my head.

  22. Norman says:

Jessica looked great and so did Dianna, Kate looked okay but the rest, not so much. The best one is Jessica Alba.

  23. NANALU says:

WHAT DOES JESSICA ALBA DO AGAIN, TALENTLESS—NOT MUCH OF AN ACTING CAREER , — LOOKS CAN ONLY TAKE YOU SO FAR — DIME A DOZEN — POMONA, CA
