Jake Gyllenhaal & Reese Witherspoon romantic Egyptian getaway

The rumor-mill is working overtime in Britain – the gossip is that Jake Gyllenhaal has decided to propose (or has already proposed) to Reese Witherspoon during an exotic Egyptian getaway. I buy that Jake took (or will take) Reese on a romantic trip, but I’m not buying the engagement until I read it in People. There has been a Reese-Jake engagement watch before, and Reese has even publicly claimed that she’s not sure if she’ll ever re-marry. Still, Jake’s holiday plans do seem really sweet.

According to the British travel agency with whom Jake made the arrangements, Jake organized a private jet to take Reese to the pyramids, the Luxor and a private viewing of a newly-discovered mummy. Yikes, maybe it’s not so romantic? A mummy doesn’t really say “marry me”. The Sunday Telegraph has more:

While Reese Witherspoon no doubt enjoyed a Valentine’s gift or two from Jake Gyllenhaal, the Hollywood actress can look forward to an even more romantic treat.

[The] couple, who did not confirm that they were a couple until November, are to be taken on a romantic holiday to Egypt amid rumours that Gyllenhaal may be planning to propose.

“I was asked to organise the trip for Reese Witherspoon and her boyfriend,” said Geoffrey Kent, the founder of Abercrombie & Kent, at the opening of the company’s private travel office at Harrods. “They will go everywhere by private jet and cram as much as possible in. That means Luxor, the Pyramids and possibly a private viewing of the newly discovered Saqqara mummy. They are going to stay in the best hotels and the idea is that it will be quite an experience.”

Gyllenhaal, 28, lived in Notting Hill with Miss Witherspoon, 32, while filming Prince of Persia.

From The Sunday Telegraph

Last week, an interview with Reese came out in Parents magazine, and Reese admitted that her kids think she’s totally embarrassing. I pointed out that not many “embarrassing” moms get to do the dirty with Jake Gyllenhaal. It seems like this Egypt trip might be something more than just romance – think about it, wouldn’t little kids love to see the pyramids? Won’t Deacon love to see a mummy? Perhaps Jake planned a family vacation, not a romantic one.

    Not to be a total hypocrite, as I am trolling through celeb gossip sites right now, but is this Kent guy allowed to share that kind of information, even if it isn’t all that detailed? I’m really just curious.

    Mojo ~

    Excellent question….my guess is that if he keeps talking like that he won’t have a job soon.

  3. Maria says:

    There is really no need to repeat made up “gossip” from The Sunday Telegraph.

    BTW, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhall are just a dull fauxmance.

  4. mel says:

    @Maria, no duller than Jen and John…yuck!

  5. Ned says:

    I think that British travel agency is getting free publicity at the expense of the privacy of their clients (if it’s even true).

  6. czarina says:

    It could be that the travel agency made a deal with Reese and Jake–giving services free for the right to advertise that they used them? I find it difficult to believe that a reputable company would compromise their client’s privacy without consent.

  7. See Thru Marketing says:

    Another PR story to make the masses believe that Jake is straight, Reese is sexy, London is the “it” place for HW celebs and Abercrombie & Kent is the agent to see for all your travel needs.

  8. Kristen says:

    Oh God – not the gay thing again… How old and stale is that……

    MOVE ON!

    Yep, boring.

    They don’t:

    publicly make out;
    live together and adopt a bunch of kids;
    have public fights;
    give stupid interviews;
    she takes her kids to school and has lived in one place for a long period of time;
    and they both get along with both of their parents.

    If this is boring, so be it. At least they are classy and act like they have sense.
