Princess Charlene & Prince Albert are expecting their first baby together

wenn21395507

I was getting sort of depressed with how long it was taking for Princess Charlene to get pregnant. But the Insemination Dungeon finally yielded results! At long last, Charlene and Albert are expecting their first child together. This will be Charlene’s first and Albert’s…? I don’t know, like his fourth or fifth I think.

Princess Charlene of Monaco, who married Prince Albert II in 2011, has announced she is pregnant with the couple’s first baby.

The 36-year-old South African former Olympic swimmer and her husband issued a statement expressing their “immense joy” at the news.

The short statement says that the birth is expected before the end of the year. Although it does not elaborate, this implies that the style-conscious princess is at least three months pregnant.

The news is sure to please the palace and end recent tabloid media speculation about why Charlene, after nearly three years of marriage with 56-year-old Albert, had not yet provided an heir to the jet-set European principality. Britain’s Kate Middleton became pregnant with Prince George around a year and a half after she married Prince William in April, 2011.

Until the baby is born, the Monegasque heir remains Princess Caroline — Albert’s older sister — and then her eldest son, Andrea Casiraghi, who’s recently become a father.

[From ABC News]

Well, congrats to Charlene and Albert. I kind of wondered if it would ever happen. In the span of their three-year marriage, Albert’s niece Charlotte and nephew Andrea have both had babies. Both had boys too, so there’s no problem with the whole “male heir” thing. But just think about how depressed Charlene will be if the baby is a girl. She’ll have to go through all of this all over again, because that’s the way the principality of Monaco rolls – only male heirs can assume the crown. That being said, I bet Charlene would be happy with a girl.

Gee, she looks thrilled, right?

Princess Misery of Monaco looks even more miserable than usual

    • HH says:

“Princess Misery of Monaco” — YES!

    • cubfan34 says:

      Some people just aren’t smilers.

      I’m glad for them.

      • lily says:

Εxactly, my mom always tells me to smile but it just doesn’t come naturally. Needless to say that we only get to see her in stressfull events. Maybe she actually is a smiler in her private life!

      • aenflex says:

I hear that. But look in her eyes. There’s no light, no merriment, no glint of happiness or content. She looks vacant and emotionless. Almost always.

    • Kate2 says:

Perfect nickname. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pic of her looking anything but completely morbid.

I feel bad for her. I think she was threatened and forced to go through with this marriage.

      • Mrs. Horton says:

I agree. Her body language says it all. She has been bred for this. It must be an arranged (deranged) marriage. It’s tend to believe this is against her will. She looks disgusted by his presence. When I see her my heart breaks and I wish I could save her!! He just has this darkness about him. SCARY

      • Gen says:

Right. It’s not just that she doesn’t smile. Look at how he has his hand on her, and her hand is specifically positioned to “not touch” his. She’s miserable.

    • jaye says:

LMAO! I was just about comment about how she always looks SO miserable.

    • Eloise says:

Well, if she thought she was miserable before her pregnancy, she hasn’t seen anything yet.

    • crab says:

In the first pic she has the most disgusted look on her face! She was probably thinking about the night the baby was made!

  2. mimif says:

Wow, I can’t believe they actually did it. (The look on her face in the header pic is everything.)

  3. LAK says:

Actually, part of their re-written agreement with France is that females were added to the line of succession which is why Caroline is the current heir. The gender of Charlene’s baby isn’t important anymore as far as inheritance. THIS baby will succeed after Albert, irrespective of gender.

Now about that dungeon and Charlene’s ability to swim to freedom…….

    • LAK says:

      http://en.gouv.mc/Government-Institutions/Institutions/Constitution-of-the-Principality

the new amendments made in 2002 allow for all living legitimate relatives irrespective of gender though males are still preferred over females.

Without the amendments, Caroline and Stephanie as well as their female children would have remained excluded from the line of succession.

      • Lucky Charm says:

I’m a little confused, so I apologize if this sounds stupid (and I realize that this is all moot now anyway with the new rules of succession in place). If the females are excluded from the line of succession, wouldn’t that also make their male children excluded as well? Or does it just ignore the female and jump to the next male in the family?

      • LAK says:

Lucky Charm: It’s not a stupid question and i think Monaco plays fast and loose with the rules according to what they need which is really confusing.

For Example, Rainier inherited his right to the throne from his mother who was the only child of his grandfather. Further, his mother was illegitimate, but later formally adopted.

According to the usual rules, all 3 things should have made it impossible for her to have any succession rights especially considering that Rainier later had to negotiate with France to recognise his own 2 daughters in the line of succession in case Albert had no kids. And it makes no sense now that Albert’s 2 older kids [or perhaps 3 if rumours are to be believed] aren’t in the line of succession or aren’t formally recognised.

      • bluhare says:

Wow, LAK. I did not know Rainier’s mother was illegitimate. That really makes me scratch my head about Albert’s older children now.

      • LAK says:

        oops….meant father not grandfather.

B: If they hadn’t fudged in order to adopt her, the throne would have gone to a German cousin!!!

  4. Anne says:

    Her face is priceless.

  5. littlestar says:

I’m surprised. I didn’t think she’d ever let him touch her long enough to make a baby. Maybe it was through artificial insemination? :O

    I kid, I kid ;).

    • bondbabe says:

I was thinking the same thing! The look on her face is, “I can’t believe I let him actually put it in!! Ugh.”

      • kri says:

Neither of them can believe he actually put it in, kept in , and it worked. Her facial expressions are the best. OMG, I hope she has a hot bodyguard, or is obsessed with knitting, or likes origami…something, anything, to make her happy, cause that man ain’t doin it. I know she is a beautiful, rich princess, but she had to bang MR. Potato Head. I feel sympathy.

    • Nighty says:

Maybe they did artificial insemination and are paying well to keep it hush hush…
*jee… this was mean of me…*

    • Lisa says:

They most likely did use artificial insemination because of his age. A man’s fertility is almost gone by 56.

      • Trashaddict says:

What planet are you from?!?! Men have a pretty good track record for late-in-life babies. Charlie Chaplin? Cary Grant? Warren Beatty was no spring chicken either! Of course, they had a better shot at it. How Albert even managed to sire illegitemate kids is beyond me-

      • Lisa says:

Well, Chaplin married a 19 year old so that helped. He’s the exception not the rule.

There has been 10-15 years of research showing men’s fertility declines steadily with age, it just hasn’t been reported on much in the press.

No one did research on men’s fertility until recently and it turns out it drops dramatically between 41-45 with just 35% of fertility left at 45. After that it drops by 10% each year. His odds of getting her pregnant naturally are about 15%. It’s not impossible, just not good odds.

Here’s one article or you can google “men’s biological clock” for more info.

        http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2051041/MALE-biological-clock-After-41-chance-father-declines-rapidly.html

      • Thinker says:

Men do lose fertility. Whatever the anecdotes of Hollywood, the statistics show that older men are less virile. Their sperm become less potent and become more likely to have mutations and deformations.

Besides, if we went by Hollywood as example, every 46 year old woman would have a natural spontaenous pregnancy just like Halle Berry claims she’s had. Lest we forget Jane Seymour, Laura Linney, Mariah Carrey, Kelly Preston…. And on, and on…

      • jaye says:

Hardly. My grandpa conceived his last 2 children at 68 and 70, respectively. My grandmother was in her late 40’s.

      • Lisa says:

Again, that isn’t impossible but very, very rare. According to one study, if a woman is 33-39 her chances of getting pregnant are cut in half if the man is over 40. Even success rates for ivf begin to drop once the man hits 45. It will typically take a man over 45 5x longer to get a woman pregnant and a woman is 5x more likely to miscarry if her partner is in his forties and 10x more likely if he’s in his fifties.

The idea that every part of a man’s body is affected by age, but not his sperm is ridiculous. Men start having mutations in their sperm in their 30s that can lead to any number of illnesses. One in four instances of schizophrenia is now linked to men in their 40s having children.

I’m sure they’re are many men like Alec Baldwin, Bruce Willis, Rod Stewart using ivf but they don’t say it publicly because they want to seem “virile”.

      • Amulla says:

It is true, but not talked about at all. Men do lose their fertility. In fact, clinics won’t accept sperm donors over age 40. So its kind of sad when I hear young men say they have all the time in the world to have a child. By age 40 they may likely need to turn to expensive, medical methods of having a child. Men are even more deluded about their fertility than women are.
As for the Hollywood actresses who “spontaneously” get pregnant past a certain age, sorry but they are all lying. They used egg donors.

      • Lady D says:

My mom and my grandma were in the hospital within 3 weeks of each other. My grandma got her first baby bonus cheque for my uncle the same day my grandpa got his first Social Security cheque. I remember my grandpa saying that he couldn’t get too excited about his first grandchild because he had one the same age at home.

    • carol says:

I’m so confused – why did they get married then?

  6. kcarp says:

I hope for her sake they went the IVF way so she didn’t have to have endless sex sessions with him.

Not to promote the drug way or diagnosis someone I don’t know but you would think she could get an anti depressant or something to help her with some of her misery. Poor woman, I hope she can get out after this.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

It doesn’t have to be IVF; the baby could just as easily been a “turkey baster baby” , i.e. Charlene could have gotten pregnant using just Albert’s very potent (obviously) semen.

Yes, Princess Misery of Monaco looks more miserable than ever!

  7. hmmm says:

Holy immaculate conception! It’s a miracle!

  8. Jackson says:

If I had to let that dbag crawl up on me all the time I’d look about that thrilled as well.
    Congrats!

  9. LIVEALOT says:

Meh. Isn’t that what this marriage was all about?

    • FLORC says:

Yes. Soon they’ll have a baby and he can go back toall his side pieces and she can be on permanent vacation with her hot rugby “instructor/trainer” or whatever he is. That’s the only time she doesn’t look miserable.

  10. Patty Cake says:

Having sex with him is probably like watching paint dry, lol. He looks too old for her. He is definitely all used up and probably has no longevity in the sack, if you know what I mean. 😉 I hope she At least Hassan interesting affair on him. Maybe get her a boo, a side piece, a wham bam thakyouman on the side.
On another note, she looks like an adult Chloe Moretz. Cute.

  11. truthful says:

    LOL!!

look how he is looking at her in the 2nd pic–heehee
like he is thinking “at least smile, DAMN!”

  12. Jegede says:

Oh Wow. Did not see this coming
But anything is better than the very troubled Andrea Casiraghi inheriting the Grimaldi throne

    • O really, why? Please give more info.

    • Julia says:

How do you know that stuff about Andrea? I thought he had dated his wife for multiple years and that seems pretty stable. Now, the drug thing? I could see that a bit more because sometimes he looked seriously great and other times very, very thin….

      • Tatiana says:

About the confused sexuality, I don’t think it is true. I’m mean we are talking about one of the most womanizer heirs in Europe and while he has been with Tatiana since 2005 officially, she has had notorious flings. The drug thing it is actually true and if you look at his closest friends they have done that at one time or another.

  13. 30winks says:

She really is the most stunning woman. She can wear anything. I love the color of that dress.

  14. dorothy says:

    She looks thrilled.

  15. Patty Cake says:

She looks like she could do a commercial for the Ashley- Madison site. Life’s too short. Have an affair! Lol

  16. lunchcoma says:

I’d sort of hoped they wouldn’t have kids. A father who’s proven less than interested in his existing children, a mother who looks sad all the time, the Grimaldi family drama, and the burdens and excesses of being a royal don’t sound like a recipe for a happy childhood.

    • HappyMom says:

I agree. I figured at some point she’d break free.

    • LadySlippers says:

      •Lunchie•

I’m excited for her only because she won’t have the ‘failure’ tag hung on her.

      • DameEdna says:

Absolutely, when you consider the life that CP Masako leads.

At least for Charlene, the imperative to produce a son has been removed. So, there’s that.

      • lunchcoma says:

I can see that, LadySlippers. I feel quite bad for her, and I’m sure that having a child will make her life a little less painful. I do worry about the child, but perhaps Charlene will find motherhood rewarding and spend lots of time with him or her. I can’t really see Albert doing that. I suspect he’ll nod approvingly over the baby a few times a week and then go back to whatever he’s been up to all these years.

    • grits says:

I think the whole having kids thing has a reason though. I can’t remember where I read it, but if she does have a male child, supposedly that kid becomes the heir, and she is allowed to divorce.

    • Francis says:

I never believed those runaway stories, she hung in there for almost ten years to get the ring. Charlene was never going anywhere.
      It’s nice to see.
I wonder how Caroline feels, did she think it would go to her offspring? Just wondering.

  17. Julia says:

In those pictures, she looks like she wants to be in bed with a ginger ale and crackers. I cannot even imagine being morning sick with pantyhose on and a camera in my face.

Any possibility that she always looks so miserable because she has had a hard time getting pregnant or she’s gotten pregnant and miscarried and the media keeps commenting on the lack of a child? I’d find that hard to deal with…. Or, it could be that she married Albert.

  18. Patricia I says:

    Bless her.
I hope the pregnancy and birth are easier than the conception.
I don’t think it could be worse.

  19. Carrie says:

I feel so sorry for her, that whole story about them taking her passport and basically holding her hostage. She always looks so, so miserable.

    • Talie says:

The Hollywood Reporter just did a whole story on Monaco’s shadiness… the glamour hides a lot of scary sh*t.

    • linlin says:

Sorry, but that just sounds like made-up bull****. How can they held her hostage? She could just tell the public at any big event. Who cares who has her passport (apart from the fact that she has been to other countries several times since marrying), she just could have said to the press that she didn’t want to marry him and wanted to leave the country and they would have been forced to let her go. If anything blackmail would be far more likely than that bullshit with her passport. Though why they would bother anyway. It’s not as if she is super-rich or aristocratic, undoubtedly he could have found someone else on her level to marry without the blackmail- maybe someone who actually would have brought them some good press.

      • Francis says:

The runaway stories were a bunch of crap.,Charlene dated Albert close to ten yrs or knew him that long some say. She wasn’t going anywhere and since marriage she’s been in and out of the Country flying all over the world by herself when she wanted to or was doing a royal duty, if she wanted out she would have just left and never come back.
I never believed that runaway crap for a minute. What would she runaway after hanging in there almost a decade? The press had it out for them IMO Rumours were the story originated from a British source passed to French so zfrench outlets would print it first,

  20. Talie says:

Did Charlotte actually get married? I think only Andrea’s son is legit at the moment to take the crown.

    • Tatiana says:

No, she did not. Gad and Char have a baby (Raphael), but they are unmarried. Andrea is the one married.

  21. sundaygal says:

    Stockholm Syndrome!

  22. capepopsie says:

She looks gorgeous! Love her hair and the colour of her dress. She looks great even though she lost the one sleeve! 🙂

  23. Green Is Good says:

Let’s not forget it is the sperm that determines the sex of the child. So if it’s a girl, thePalace can blame Albert “doesn’t use a condom” of Monaco.

  24. bettyrose says:

Does anyone understand this whole situation? Why is he holding her captive rather than marrying some eager social climber? Is it something kreepy like targeting a genetically ideal woman to improve their gene pool?

    • Christin says:

Maybe he / they realized the 1980s were over and he couldn’t find a good supply of starlets willing to date him, much less get married.

      • Amulla says:

Or maybe he’s one of those men who is repulsed by Hollywood actresses. Believe it or not, lots of men won’t date or marry actresses.

      • Christin says:

He dated Brooke Shields in the 1980s and also a couple of famous models.

It seemed like he might try to recreate what his father did – which is find a well-known beauty to marry. His own mother was at the top of her game in Hollywood when his father began courting her.

    • lunchcoma says:

At the wedding, he was 53 and had already been dating her for several years. I think he either decided he wanted a legitimate heir or was being pressured to produce one, and didn’t want to spend several more years finding and dating a woman young enough to have children and willing to quietly tolerate his shenanigans. It also might have been even more of an embarrassment for her to leave him at the altar and write the inevitable book about it.

      • bettyrose says:

Thanks, lunchcoma. Now that leaves me wondering if she hasn’t spent the time between the wedding & now trying to figure out how to escape this situation without bring a child into it.

    • TG says:

@Bettyrose – I asked a question similar to yours on here awhile ago and someone explained that her parents have benefited from the connection so the likely push has come from them for her to marry him. I still don’t understand what he sees in her as I don’t find her attractive nor her figure. Maybe in person she is pretty but she always looks mannish to me, though I do admit in one of the photos she is wearing that dress well. Yes, I know he is gross and fat but that wouldn’t mean anything if someone wanted the title, money and position. And there is always an attractive golddigger willing to overlook a repulsive face and body so no way was he short on women.

      • bettyrose says:

TG – I don’t know how smart she is, but she’s an athlete and I imagine has other qualities one would consider desirable in an baby incubator (which is her role, is it not?) so if money was the deal, why did she wait so long to get pregnant? I realize there might have been difficulties, but I Just feel like this kreepy family would have insisted on medical assurances of her fertility, and we all know his fat bald swimmers have no problem inseminating, so that leaves us with her waiting to fulfill her contract with a pregnancy, which then begs the question, was she trying to find a way to avoid bringing a child into this mess – and gave up?

      • bluhare says:

Interesting questions, bettyrose. My take on it (seeing as she did marry him) is that she wanted a child (or children if she’s supposed to have two) as soon as she could so she could produce the heir (and maybe a spare) so she can finalise her obligation to Albert and then live her own life. I think once she’s done that, as long as she’s discreet she can take lovers. The rub will come into play if she falls totally in love and wants to get married. Which she can do; I think they let you divorce there? But then access to her child would perhaps be an issue.

      • NKN says:

To Bettyrose: There is no medical assurance for fertility. The doctors can check her uterus for abnormalities, check her ovarian reserve and hormone levels. They could all be normal or good, and it could still have taken a while to get pregnant. That’s why there’s a diagnosis known as “unexplained fertility.” It took one couple I know more than two years to get pregnant, and doctors found nothing wrong with them. They are now expecting their second child. For some people, pregnancy takes years. Moreover, the fact that Albert is in his 50s likely didn’t help matters if Charlene had a fertility problem. I married in 2011 and unfortunately still don’t have a child. I found out a year-and-a-half after getting married that I had several large uterine fibroids. I had surgery to remove them last year. Now my uterus appears to be pretty normal, and everything else is fairly normal, and I still haven’t gotten pregnant. My fertility doc says he’s not concerned, but I will likely do IVF this summer. Those are the breaks for some of us.

  25. Eleonor says:

    Well…congrats???
This woman looks miserable all the time, not even Diana during her messy divorce looked that bad.

    • DailyNightly says:

The body language between these two just says SO much.

    • Thinker says:

Interesting. Yet, even today Diana conjures latent empathy from people. I used to read the comments on the Kate/William posts, but frankly, I do not see how Kate and Charlene are any different, except in people’s reactions to them. I’ve seen plenty of photos of Kate looking dull, despondent and dreary. Somehow she is always the recipient of a strong defense, excuses and a shocking degree of public goodwill. What has she done to deserve it? I’ve come to understand the British media is protective of William and Kate to the extent she is his wife. I have to believe its the legacy of Diana, because those two do not deserve the leniency they are given.

To date, I’ve never seen Charlene’s panties. Charlene is an Olympian, she’s accomplished quite the feat in her lifetime. Why is it so believable to people that Kate is just maladjusted to public life, deserves a vacation, is perfectly happy to live a life apart from her husband, and Charlene deserves no excuses but receives bitter judgment and ridicule?

Albert is no Prince Charming to me, but neither is “doors to manual” serial cheater, wannabe pilot William. What accounts for the disparate treatment? Could it be that Diana’s legacy was just that much stronger than Grace’s?

      • aubonpain says:

This princess RARELY smiles. I doubt I’ve ever seen it. Kate smiles constantly. They are VERY different people in my opinion

      • bettyrose says:

People consider Charlene worthy of sympathy because she’s seemingly being held against her will, while Kate evokes scorn because she’ sought out that life and but now doesn’t take it seriously. Completely different scenarios.

  26. Elisabeth says:

all she is missing in these pics is today’s current paper being held up in front of her

  27. BeckyR says:

How many children does this creep have, anyway? This whole family is a study in dysfunction.

  28. OTHER RENEE says:

Why did she marry him? She could have married someone for love, she’s stunning. Why, why, why?

    • Miss5280 says:

Money. That’s why. And she is only “stunning” after having plastic surgery. She is lovely – but it’s not the face she was born with.

  29. LadyRay says:

She looks disgusted with him & fed up with her life.

  30. Suze says:

I have a soft spot for Char. I think this will help her current situation as well as make her personally happy – so congrats the them.

Kaiser – I think Monaco has adopted new succession rules, so girls can inherit. Now if Char has a girl then a boy, the boy still gets to be the ruler.

Which, bah humbug. But at least they don’t cut girls out completely any more.

  31. Francis says:

Congratulations. I like Princess Charlene. She seems lovely and she’s been working hard in her role since she married. Congrats!

  32. RobN says:

I think she’s got an unhappy default face. Lots of people do; they’re not miserable, it’s just the way their face settles naturally.

  33. wow says:

She’s probably the only Princess of any royal kingdom who would relish her husband having several mistresses. She can’t even try faking it (lol) while he’s always trying to touch her as if to say “Come on dear, please try? I can’t make this lie look believable on my own”.

    • LAK says:

      LOL.

I think this is the only public couple that the public would tolerate cheating on both sides.

Talk about an unhappy union….from the outside looking in!!

  34. The Original Mia says:

I thought she was pregnant last month. Glad to see my instincts were right. Can’t wait for her maternity wear. Got to be an improvement over Kate’s. Not that it would take much.

    Congrats to Albert & Charlene!

    • bluhare says:

Other than her hem length a couple of times, I thought Kate did pretty well with maternity wear, the few times we saw her.

      • Francis says:

Kate maternity wear was just her old dresses with the waistline let out. It was nothing special.

  35. cody says:

What a lovely way of sayin’
    What you’re thinkin’ of me
I can see it, face is glowin’
I can see in your eyes
    I’m happy you know it

  36. Miss5280 says:

Ugh. That one-capped sleeve dress is awful. She also looks like a clown did her makeup and hair.

  37. aquarius64 says:

I’m sorry I don’t feel any joy for this announcement, mainly because Albert’s two out of wedlock children that I know off (the girl with the American woman and the biracial boy with the African flight attendant) can’t inherit the throne. Albert’s grandma was “legitimized” to gain the crown; Caroline’s son got married with an outside child, but they change the requirement of an heir being conceived and born in wedlock. Obviously the succession law can be changed. No accommodations will be given to Albert’s wrong-side-of-the-royal-blanket kids; and to me that’s wrong.

    • GracePM says:

They are still entitled to part of his estate, just not the crown.

      • aquarius64 says:

They get the money, big deal. The fact they can’t have HSH in front of their names, or be considered members of the royal family, makes them look half-caste.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I still don’t see why I should be outraged at this. Albert could have left them the crown if he wanted to by marrying their mother. He chose not to. Does that make him a jerk? Sure, I think everybody agrees that he’s a jerk.

But the bigger issues is what is “fair” — and to me, if we’re going by what is “fair” — then Albert should never be on the throne in the first place, and therefore his kids (illegitimate or otherwise) would not be first in line anyway. Because what is “fair” is that Caroline, the oldest child of Ranier, should be on the throne right now, and her kids should be first in line. The country decided that younger males should have preference over older females, which is not fair. They also decided that illegitimate children should not be entitled to the throne, which isn’t fair either. But if we’re going to say Monaco should treat illegitimate children the same as kids born in wedlock, then we should say Monaco should treat female children the same as male children . . . which would result in Caroline and her kids getting the throne, not Albert and his kids (illegitimate or otherwise). So I don’t see how Albert’s illegitimate kids were cheated out of anything — it’s Caroline and her kids who were.

      • Denese says:

I think it was originally Caroline. When Grace and Rainier got engaged, a reporter asked them who would succeed if a girl were born first and Rainier said the first born, regardless. I think Caroline gave that up tho when she married Phillipe Junot as he was divorced and the church would not recognize their union. So then it moved to Albert. I think that is why Caroline and Rainier petitioned the Vatican to change the decree from divorced to annulled. That way Andrea could inherit if Albert never married and had children.

      • bluhare says:

I bet there was a lot of screaming and yelling in Hanover yesterday, then. Andrea will be cut out.

    • Flower says:

:aquarius64: It isn’t Albert or the Monegasques who can change the succession laws, it is actually the prerogative of the French government. Because Albert was without a legitimate heir according to the old rules which they had set down , they bent over backward changing the law in 2002 so Monaco could continue as a monarch. Under the old rules if Albert failed to produce a legitimate heir Monaco would have reverted to French rule. It suits them to have their own little tax haven.

Illegitimate children can inherit the crown, the only stipulation is that Albert eventually marry the mother. In fact according to their complicated laws, it is possible that if Albert divorces Charlene and then marries the mother of one of his illegitimate children then that child would be ‘legitimated’ and take precedence over Charlene’s baby.

However if an illegitimate child was the result of an adulterous relationship they can not inherit the crown under any circumstances.

she looks beautiful in the 2nd and 3rd pics.

  39. DanaG says:

Looks like the Royal Turkey Baster did the trick cause there is no way these two are having sex. LOL She can’t stand next to him without it looking like it’s the worst thing ever. Once she has the baby she can probably just go back to living her the life the way she wants too, maybe even divorce down the track. Albert just needed a legitimate heir once her or she is here her job is done. Maybe then she will be happy cause she always looks miserable except in the pictures of her on a yacht with someone not Albert. LOL I bet he has his friends too.

  40. Boxy Lady says:

When Princess Grace married Prince Rainier, there was a rule that if they ever divorced, any children they had would remain with Rainier because they would be “property of the state” or something like that. If this hasn’t changed (maybe it was modified when they redid the succession rules, I don’t know), Princess Charlene would have no real incentive to leave Prince Albert after having children with him. Not if she wants to keep her kids, that is.

  41. Amulla says:

She does look miserable in those photos.

  42. annieanne says:

“Until the baby is born, the Monegasque heir remains Princess Caroline” – per the quoted article

“because that’s the way the principality of Monaco rolls – only male heirs can assume the crown”. – according to you

Do you even read your own posts?

    • Boxy Lady says:

@annieanne It sounds completely contradictory but both parts are true. Princess Caroline, as the oldest, is known as the Hereditary Princess but she cannot assume the crown because she is female. Only her male descendants would be able to assume the crown if her brother Prince Albert (who now has the crown) does not produce a legitimate male heir.

Here is the Wikipedia article about Monaco’s line of succession.

  43. Janet says:

Poor thing looks like she’d rather be having a root canal without anesthesia.

  44. Flower says:

Some one above may have mentioned this so forgive the duplication if they have.

The Monegasque rules of succession changed in 2002 to allow females to become head of state, (hence Caroline being next in line at the moment). So if Charlene does have a girl that child will be first in line after Albert so there is no pressing need for Princess Grimm to deliver a second baby, once would be enough (in more ways than one probably). However a male child would take precedence over any sister/s.

  45. dmg says:

Ummm, Princess Caroline is not a boy and she’s the current heir. Confused.

    • joe spider says:

Simple – Albert has no brother so Caroline in next in line, until the baby is born.

  46. B says:

Maybe her lipstick name is “Magenta Morbid,”
and maybe he is really gross…

  47. peachcobbler says:

Why should anyone feel.sorry for her, like Kate and all.these women who like status and money, they sell their souls to enjoy these riches. She made a choice and her miserable face is plain annoying. Oh bloody feel sorry for me, look I’m wearing couture gowns and lead a very lavish life, feel sorry for me – boo!

    • bluhare says:

We can feel sorry for her because she tried to leave before the wedding and was stopped three times, and her passport confiscated. Her own family did not support her in that as they are now living the life of Riley in Monaco on Albert’s dime. Her father said her marrying Albert was like winning the world cup. That’s why I can feel sorry for her. She did try to escape and was stopped, making it read like a bloody medieval fairy tale.

  48. decorative item says:

I can’t help but think a doctor was involved in this conception.

  49. WillowDreamer says:

I can’t help but wonder if Charlene thought her life with Albert would be wonderful and
after getting involved it turned out different and she sees the reality of her daily life.
The thing is she always seemed somber even before her marriage, Maybe it is her
plastic surgery that limits her facial expressions. I would be curious to see pictures
of her growing up to see how much her looks have changed.
Overall she did make the decision to be with Albert and if she really wanted
to leave i am sure she had many opportunities before her marriage.

  50. Francis says:

I’d put my money on Charlene any day, for outlasting and outclassing Kate in the long run. Kate with all her positive press is performing poorly.
Charlene just does her duties without tons of press and she has traveled to different parts of the world in the last three yrs doing her duties, no one had to hold her hand and tell her to keep her dress down or wear panties.

    • Christin says:

She does look well put together, even if she doesn’t constantly smile. Charlene proves you can be covered and still look fantastic.

    • Jaded says:

Absolutely – first she had a career as an Olympian swimmer – no mean feat and a LOT of hard work. Second, she’s much more active in a variety of charities that Middleton, who can’t manage more than a garden party or artsy event every couple of months. Third, there are no upskirt views or painted on jeggings, Charlene is always immaculately dressed. It’s like comparing a silk purse to a sow’s ear.

  51. Amy says:

Actually I don’t think Charlene and Albert were together for 10 years before he proposed. They met early in her career at a swimming event but they only have been officially together since 2006. Sometime in the time before they got together, he conceived a son with the Togolese woman. They announced their engagement in 2010 and got married the following year so they were only together for five years before they got married.

I hope that this pregnancy is a happy time for her and now that she has “fulfilled her duty” (so to speak) of giving the Monaco throne an heir (though there were already heirs in place thanks to Caroline) she can enjoy the rest of her life. Maybe she’ll divorce him in a few years and find the real love of her life. Tricky situation when a kid is involved but not impossible. And hopefully the kid doesn’t inherit Albert’s egg head. I was looking at pictures of Albert when he was younger and he was good-looking, but he still had that unfortunate egg head (does that come from Grace’s side??). Not a great look as you age.

    • feebee says:

Yes I think it will be a fulfillment of duty and once the baby’s here she’ll pretty much be doing whatever the hell she likes.

Difficult as is it to imagine, it wouldn’t surprise me if she divorced him later on, even if it meant being separated from her child.

  52. Elizabeth says:

    “Gee, she looks thrilled, right?”

Looks to me like she’s about to hurl. That awful fuchsia dress and lipstick isn’t helping, but still…

  53. Flower says:

I wonder how the rest of the family is feeling about this? Caroline’s son Andre was expected to inherit , Caroline has been preparing him for it for a decade, his new wife (very rich in her own right) even wore a fabulous tiara at her wedding a few weeks ago ….shades of monarchy to come. Now they are relegated to the side line, surly a few noses would have been put out of joint .

  54. Flower says:

    Some interesting news on twitter….

According to this tweet Derek Watts sent May 30, the Princess of Monaco is expecting twins.

This has not been confirmed by the palace’s press office. She will not be accompanying Prince Albert to the Netherlands.

Watts wrote: “My old bulawayo schoolmate mike wittstock has phoned to say his daughter is pregnant with twins. Congrats princess charlene and albert!”

    • LAK says:

      Two for one?!

Talk about fulfilling her heir and spare in one go.

Though i’d hate to be the spare simply for being a few minutes behind my sibling in exiting the womb.

  55. OTHER RENEE says:

Several months ago Charlene was photographed at an event sponsored by a charity she supports, teaching kids to swim. I believe she was actually in the pool. She was radiant and smiling, so surgery or botox be damned.

I watched a clip from her wedding where she kept bawling and Albert kept whispering to her. I wonder what he was saying. He didn’t seem consoling or compassionate. Probably kept telling her to knock it off. Jerk.

  56. minxx says:

    Just a few photos 🙂
Charlene smiles and even laughs on many, they capture her kissing and hugging Albert. I think they have a warm relationship but she’s a shy person and not completely comfortable in her role (she doesn’t yet speak French very well which surely contributes to her feeling awkward during her engagements in Monaco ). I’m glad she’s pregnant, she seems to thrive among kids. As far as her “running away” stories, they seem like a complete BS .. first of all, in Europe you can travel everywhere without once being asked for passport, so she could have “escaped” easily. Second, her whole family lives in Monaco now so where would she run away? Third, she’s been with him for a decade, she knew he had illegitimate kids (which he supports etc). I just read an interview with her and I think she has way more class than Kate (and her bare bum :), incredible work ethic (as an Olympian she’s used to hard work and discipline) and a lot of style. I wish her well.
