Lea Michele: ‘I made an extreme effort to be as disciplined as possible.’

Lea Michele Book Signing At Barnes & Noble
I appreciate it when a celebrity really owns their sh*t. Self awareness is severely lacking among some of the star elite, so that’s why I’m grudgingly coming around on Lea Michele. Lea recently published a memoir and self help book of sorts called Brunette Ambition. She’s 27 years old, she knows she’s competitive, focused and goal-oriented and she makes no bones about it. I doubt I’ll start liking her questionable barely-there fashion, but I’ll be damned if I didn’t come away with more respect for Lea after reading this interview she did with Huffpo.

On if discipline comes naturally to her
It does come naturally to me. I remember being eight years old on Broadway in Les Miserables, and I loved what I was doing so much, even at that young age, that I made an extreme effort to be as disciplined as possible so I could do my absolutely best… I believe with anything you do, that hard work and discipline will lead to success.

What advice would you give to a fan who may have trouble getting started, or sticking to a healthy routine?
Being kind to yourself is key. I never give myself a hard time if I steer off track with my diet or workout routine. But, finding true self-worth and happiness will lead to a path of truly wanting to fill your life and body with the best things that will make you look and feel amazing.

Of all the elements you outline in the book (healthy eating, beauty, fitness, etc.) is there one you see as a top priority?
I think first and foremost eating right and being active is the best thing we can do for our mind and body. You’re only given one body, and taking the best care of it possible is key.

Will we be seeing you starring on the big screen, outside of Glee?
I would love to start branching out into film. But right now I’m focusing on my album and book and the final season of Glee!

[From Huffpo]

Of course Lea wants to do movies, and of course she wants to be a star, but she already is a star of the small screen and Broadway. I don’t begrudge her a film career, even though I find her somewhat grating. She did that horrible New Year’s Eve movie (I didn’t watch it, but I feel confident in calling it horrible since it scored 7% on Rotten Tomatoes) and she’s rumored to be the frontrunner for a film version of Wicked. It may work out for her, and you know she’ll hustle for it. She’ll tell you she’s a hustler too.

Oh if there’s a film version of Wicked she will go full on Nomi Malone Showgirls on anyone who is in front of her on that staircase.

I saw her new music video while at the gym the other day and thought who was this sad try-hard who can’t take one second to not be twisting herself into “sexy” poses? Turned out it was Lea Michele. Ugh.

I don’t think there is one moment in that awful video where she isn’t trying to be sexy. So much try-hard with this one.

Glad to hear someone else agrees w/ me…she just grates on my nerves.

Crap. I was looking forward to a film version since the day Wicked was published (was a teenager) waited patiently nearly 10 years ago for tickets to the musical (west coast run)and didnt mind how it was lighter than the book in tone (some ppl did). Now hearing that she’s in it? Eyeroll. And another crap. Ya this is my personal opinion I know people like her, but it’s ok for me to be disappointed too.

I believe her when she says she disciplined. She also gets very grating to me as well. But I won’t fault anyone for busting their butts.

I don’t think anyone has been cast for wicked yet, the last article I saw said it was a few years away still from even filming. So she might actually age out of consideration by that point. I also feel like she is REALLY going to have to hustle because I think she may have missed some opportunities to capitalize on the success of Glee a few years back. The show is basically dead in the water, her album tanked in the US at least, and I don’t think this book of her’s is doing any better. I think she may be veering into internet famous territory rather than the wider public really knowing or caring who she is. There are a lot of twentysomething actresses she is going to have to compete with for movie roles. She might want to seriously consider focusing on TV and Broadway.

    • My little sister LOVES Glee, and I watched some of it with her. I mean, the first two seasons were good (I wasn’t really into the show, but I could see the appeal), and after that, it just went down hill FAST. What the f-ck happened?

      • Mauibound says:

Yup, that’s when I stopped watching too. Totally jumped the shark after season 2

Please, God no to her being a frontrunner for Wicked. I find her voice, whether she’s singing or just talking, so grating.

  7. JenniferJustice says:

What about saying no to yourself when you want Coke or can’t stop hard posing or trying to get attention? You also can’t seem to stop humble bragging. I’d say you have a good work ethic, but you are not disciplined.

She grew on me when she went through losing Cory (who I absolutely adored) but I don’t think she is going to find fame much past musicals and broadway. She isn’t a great actress and I think that her being tolerable in anything is based on her singing. If she doesn’t have that she doesn’t have much. I do, however, wish her success because she works hard.

And as for her comments about health, beauty and exercise, you really can see that she works very hard to maintain her body, etc. I think she’s gorgeous. She has a great petite athletic figure and I’ve always been jealous of her hair. I hope she never does anything to change who she is (ie. plastic surgery).
