Tom Hiddleston: ‘They didn’t call him ‘the Hillbilly Shakespeare’ for nothing’

wenn3851899

Rejoice, ye Dragonflies! Your King has spoken. Tom Hiddleston was only cast as Hank Williams in I Saw the Light just one week ago. Then, just two days ago, Hank Williams’ grandson Hank III spoke out against the Dragonfly King, claiming that an English crumpet could never, ever play such a dyed-in-the-wool American, and that somebody needs to talk to Matthew McConaughey’s people or something. So, the Dragonfly King knew something had to be done. If only someone could make those bloody Yanks understand that Hank Williams is the Hillbilly Shakespeare and there’s only ONE man who can play any version of any Shakespearan character. No, Tommy thought to himself, I cannot leave this to some studio lackey. Tommy whispered to himself, “I will have to speak to the Daily Mail’s gossip guy Baz Bamigboye. That will settle it!”

Tom Hiddleston spoke exclusively to me about the hillbilly with the ‘crooked smile and a wary eye’ he’ll play in I Saw The Light. The movie will begin shooting in October in Louisiana, although Hiddleston has already started learning how to sing Williams’s doleful ballads with the help of Country & Western star Rodney Crowell. Tom will have to replicate those bluesy vocals and play the guitar. Hiddleston told me I Saw The Light will chart the singer’s life from his turbulent first marriage to Audrey Mae Sheppard in 1944, through his early radio career to his auspicious debut, in 1949, at the home of country music, the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. The film will get under the skin of Hank’s relationships with the aforementioned Audrey Mae, his mother Lillie, Nashville music executive Fred Rose, his band the Drifting Cowboys and second wife Billie Jean Jones Eshliman.

‘It will go all the way to his tragic death in 1953,’ Hiddleston told me. ‘He was only 29. In the intervening period, he wrote some of the greatest songs in the history of American music. The film is about the man behind the myth, the power of his music, the sheer voltage of his talent and charisma, and his formidable demons. He worked hard, played hard, lived hard — there were women, there was whiskey — but when he sang about being in the doghouse in Move It On Over, or about his heartbreak in I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, it came from an honest place.’

Marc Abraham’s screenplay ‘pulls no punches’, the actor added, and explores Williams’s ‘shattering, self-abusive relationship with alcohol and later prescription drugs’. The singer, who suffered debilitating back pain from a congenital disorder of the spine, died of a heart attack on New Year’s Day in 1953. Abraham, who will also direct, saw Hiddleston in Coriolanus and knew he had his man, even though the RADA-trained British thespian may seem an unlikely fit for the farm boy from Mount Olive, Alabama. But Abraham said Tom has the rare ability to ‘transform himself’.

Hiddleston adds: ‘Hank’s life has a tragic arc, but in simple truth, he was a genius: a star that burned twice as bright and lived half as long. It’s a huge role for me and a huge responsibility. I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. I’ve already started singing and playing every day’.

Rodney Crowell, the Grammy-award winning country music legend, is helping.

‘He came down to visit me over the Easter weekend in Toronto where I was filming Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak” and we jammed for a day or so. It was so exciting. We had some coffee and did some talking and then we just started playing. It was spine-tingling just to spend a day playing some of Hank’s greatest hits like Hey Good Lookin’ and Long Gone Lonesome Blues with such a gifted musician. He’s already expanded my vocal range and given me a few pointers about adapting my own tone to sound like Hank. Rodney has furnished me with his beautiful J45 Gibson to practice with. And he’ll be on hand throughout the shoot,’ Tom added.

‘But his poetry, his lyrics, ache with raw vulnerability and emotion. And he sang them with all his heart. They didn’t call him ‘The Hillbilly Shakespeare’ for nothing. How Hank sang and how Hank played – that’s the work I have to do’

[From The Daily Mail]

Are you happy now, doubters? Tommy is going to play Williams like a Shakespearen character. All is well with the world. I actually found it interesting to hear some of the backstory of what the film is going to cover – so, Williams was married twice? I wonder who they will cast as the two wives. Hm… I already feel bad for those actresses. You know the Dragonflies are just going to make their lives hell. Anyway… I enjoyed this. I’m enjoying the controversy around this project already. I hope it continues. I hope Tommy has to keep giving interviews every week to try to explain the Hillbilly Shakespeare to all of us.

Oh look it’s the Fail, Windsors choice publication – shame this wasn’t an interview in the Guardian or Independent.

    • icerose says:

Not really. The daily fail readership will havE a higher percentage of old time country fanS than the guardian or idependent. Quite shrewd to get the paper on side with an early interview

    • Gingerly says:

Guardian didn’t report Hank 3’s dissatisfaction at all. Maybe because it’s not newsworthy for the paper? DM did certainly.

    • Intro Outro says:

I think it’s a bit too early for a proper Guardian/Independent interview on ISTL. Guardian didn’t cover Hank III’s displeasure with casting (while DM did) – so why choose it as a platform for his response?

I am more surprised that Tom hasn’t yet said anything about High Rise. I want a big interview on it, and it should better be in Guardian. Guardian loves both Hiddles AND Wheatley.

      • icerose says:

I think the guardian will cover High Rise nearer the distribution date when it has more relevance. At the moment I think Hank is more news worthy because it was an unexpected casting.

      • Lilacflowers says:

When are they going to get around to casting the female roles in High Rise? Sienna Miller’s Charlotte isn’t the only female and she doesn’t have the largest or most important female part. She’s just the one who links the the three main male characters. The role of Helen Wilding is actually much more important. And I just reread the book and found no mention of Augustus Prew’s “Munrow” character.

      • Intro Outro says:

YES, @Lilac, I am so very curious! We’ve been discussing the film with my colleagues and people have generally agreed that Miller isn’t such a sore thumb among that cast, after all, but I wanna know the full cast! I wonder if the other chars aren’t yet cast/are being deliberately kept secret/are not in the script (if that is possible o_O)?

      • Isadora says:

While I think it’s rather likely that they have changed a bit the characters and their specific role within the story, I don’t think Miller is going to be the only woman in this – unless they dress up Augustus Prew. 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

They still have to cast: Mrs. Wilder, Alice, Anne Royal, Jane Sheridan, Mrs. Steele, the jeweler’s wife, the children’s book writer, and Eleanor Powell. It is possible they could combine the jeweler’s wife and the children’s book writer and combine the Charlotte and Eleanor characters, but the others all have distinct roles to play in forwarding the plot.

    • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

I am quite disappointed he contacted the Fail out of all papers… Tom, wth were you thinking? Btw, Dragonflies were out in force if you read the comments… Commenters who disliked Tom got turned into shreds LOL

      • joe spider says:

But the DF has a bigger circulation than some.

      • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

Yes but bad reputation, a very bad one…. 🙁

      • Lilacflowers says:

Did he contact the paper or did the paper contact him? Reporters do make calls and ask for interviews. They can’t rely on people calling them.

      • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

        @lilacflowers

I have a friend who was called by the DM (and she is a normal person..), she said that they twisted so much her real words that she even complained to the Press commission.

God knows what Luke was thinking…. :/

      • icerose says:

the only adverse comment was pretty pathetic and added nothing constructive to the discussion. People disagreed with her statement and her tone, Seemed pretty normal to me. Happens al the time on comment sections.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@LadyMacbeth, understood. I’ve had my own work-related experiences with news media in the US. One nationally-circulated daily newspaper interviewed me about a case, twisted my words, and attributed them to my client instead of to me. I’m a short blonde; my client was a tall man of Korean and African-American parentage – no way would any sane person have confused the two of us. He thought it hilarious but it definitely was a learning adventure about believing what is published.

      • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

        @lilacflowers

Exactly. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience though 🙁

      • Lilacflowers says:

@LadyMacBeth, well, it definitely was a learning experience. For me now, anything printed in the WSJ is a work of fiction.

  2. Altariel says:

Oh, my cutie is back today!! Thank you 🙂

  3. Omega says:

He looks likes the guy who sells kebabs in my local chippie.

  4. PunkyMomma says:

    So Hiddles will sing?!!! Yes!

  5. allons-y alonso says:

I appreciate the enthusiasm! But the DM really!?!? I am disappoint, dude!

  6. Esti says:

Yeah, I remain unconvinced about this. I mean, we’ll see. Like I said on the other post, I think he’s too old and craggy looking for this part, especially now that we know the movie starts in1944 when Williams was only 20 and wasn’t messed up on drugs yet. I just wish they’d found some fresh faced southern boy with a killer voice to play this role.

    • icerose says:

when I saw him in Coriolanus there were scenes where he looked in his early twenties and lets face it they do a lot with lighting and makeup these days.

    • Algernon says:

Have you seen Hank Williams at the end of his life, though? He was only 29 and he looked older. He wasn’t rough-looking, per se, but you could see hard living in his face. I totally stan for Hiddles, so I am biased, but I think he’s got the right kind of face for it. Makeup and lighting can take care of the younger years, and by the time he’s playing Hank at the end, he’ll look just right. He also has a natural resemblance (it’s the nose, I think), which is a big plus.

    • delorb says:

      @Esti,

I am as well. But as always, I’ll wait to see the finished film before making up my mind. Perhaps he was the best for man the job? All the naysayers will get their chance to rip him a new one if this movie falls flat on its face. They should also be prepared to be HONEST if he knocks it out of the park. Sadly, I don’t think this will be the case. The flies will have to suffer through months of people taking pot shots at Tom and no amount of PR fluff is going to change that.

  7. Word Girl says:

Knock’em dead Big T, you can do it. That’s what I tell him in bed at least, lol.

  8. Lilacflowers says:

Shakespeare is life. He’s been tweeting in support of Joanna Hogg’s Exhibition’s premiere in NYC too. I’m really happy that he’s working with Rodney Crowell on this. Crowell takes this stuff seriously and is really, really good. That’s a good sign for the film. Love the middle smiley picture, which will carry me through the day at work while I miss all the fun here. Please don’t get the thread shut down before i get home late tonight.

@Abby_J, our boy is safe. His vicious kidnapper forgot to take his phone away so I was able to text him. Mark and Keifer distracted the kidnapper so he was able to just walk out the door of the lighthouse. The gash on his forehead re-opened during the kidnapping but Colin is tending to that for him. The boys aren’t shackled today. I’m leaving them free because they are all so upset from the kidnapping ordeal. They’re going to play badminton out in the yard while Colin grills food for all and Mark watches over with ‘P’enny’s assistance.

@’P’enny, counting on you to fend off the kidnapper. And Sean can stay out of the boot for the day to recover too.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Oh, and ‘p’enny, fresh-baked brownies just came out of the oven. Don’t let Tom eat them all; he needs to be skinny for High Rise and Jonny Lee will want some too. We don’t need them fighting while they recover from Word Girl’s assault.

Abby_J, I think they’re all going running with you tomorrow.

      Ta-ta!

      • 'p'enny says:

since when was i on your side? did you bribe me with special lone -leg humping time with Hiddles? I shall eat your brownies for starters, are they chocolate or else?
well, i will starve Hiddles, but i don’t like it it’s not fair on the poor boy he was already thin after Crimson Peak ended. Never seen a stone slip off a body so fast. they better film the naked balcony scene last, slot it in a few weeks after filming and then feed him up on bacon butties. in the meantime, our Jack Keifer Bauer-Sutherland the first needs paying for the protection and i have promised him your brownies and exclusive access to my sock monkey and leg.

      • Abby_J says:

Excellent! The Avengers 1/2 marathon is coming up in over a month, so we need the training. 🙂

      • Lilacflowers says:

@’p’enny, yes dear, I most certainly did bribe you with all alone leg humping sessions when he finished Crimson Peak. There were two pans of brownies: one chocolate kahlua; one chocolate with chocolate chunks. Both seem to be gone. A case of wine and a bottle of Jameson also seem to be gone but there is enough Ketel One left for Colin to make me a vodka & tonic, which I desperately need after traipsing all over the city during lunch and after work looking for that other guy, whom I do not fancy. I really do love that Colin has taken to serving as butler to us all. And I am still furious with Willie Nelson for simply announcing his guest guitarist the other night as “Johnny on guitar.” If he had bothered to say “Johnny Depp on guitar,” I would have left my seat and stood on the other side of the stage for a much better view. Do take care of Keifer and enjoy him to your heart’s content.

@Abby_J, I’m heading up to western New Hampshire tomorrow so you’ll have them for the full day. Run, Abby_J, run! Don’t cross the Marathon finish line though because people like to save that for the actual race and we don’t want to start anyone crying again. They do seem happier tonight now that they’re all back together but still a bit jittery from the whole kidnapping ordeal.

      • 'p'enny says:

in the name of peace and our kidnapped beauties who are are settled with their sock monkeys and bunkies. i won’t plan another devious solo-sneaky attempt to get them all to me. Thanks to the amazingly thoughtful brownies with Kahula! well done. also Icerose has scared me, she has bought a bigger boot fast car Bugatti, which even with my Jag and a full boot will outrun me. [saves up for helicopter, but hiddles is scared of heights..] anyway, Secret Squirrel seems unbribable on a 100 nuts as she has an entire forest full, and i can’t beat that. However, I do have Squirrel traps with Benny the Otter face on for her to fall for so i may consider chopping her furry tail for a keyring or duster in the near future. And now lilacflowers has revealed her prowess in law, i think i will lie low for a while, go kidnap Hank 111 instead and hold him to ransom to his facebook fans ‘shut up or your Dukes of Hazard VHS collection get it.” – i shall release him after TTL is released. In meantime I shall join Dolly on stage and hope you release Hiddles for some ol’ jamming and singing of country classics of, ‘My Arthy Breaky Heart’ and ‘D.I.V.O.R.C.E’

      • Abby_J says:

        @LilacFlowers

We’ll get close, but save the last .1 mile for the actual half marathon. I have to figure out what they are going to wear for costumes. I think I’ll put my precious Tommy in a Loki costume, because NO ONE will expect that, and he can run his little heart out without being recognized. Colin will be Iron Man, because he is so recognizable that he needs a mask. Jonny can be Hawkeye. If Jack Bauer wants to run, he can be Captain America. 🙂 I will be The Scarlet Witch, because Black Widow’s leather outfit just doesn’t sound fun to run in. 🙂

(I am actually running in red, white, and blue with a Captain America shield. My husband is going to be in all Hulk green! Haha!)

      • Lilacflowers says:

@’p’enny, I do hope you get your Dolly concert wish. Please let us all know if you need any help with your Hank III plot. You shouldn’t have to do all the dirty work.

@Abby_j, sounds like quite the run you have planned there.

    • Word Girl says:

*Frantically checks the bedroom to see if Hiddles is still there after seeing the
dark mark= a casting of Lilac Flowers thorns in air*

Sweat beads down my face as I realize that my fiancé has been stolen, and Lilac Flowers is the culprit.

      Stolen again? Not again!

      *Drops to knees and screams.*

Noooooo! I will get my Hiddleypoo back!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Ahem. Lilacs do not have thorns, I have perfectly manicured and extremely healthy, unpolished, highly buffed inch long nails which Tom loves to feel scratch his back. No, not stolen. You were the one who did the stealing. He simply walked away and came home.

    • icerose says:

Crowell’s involvement has been one of the key points for me ever since he posted that he had been in talks with Tom and the director way back when. He will give it some much needed musical expertise.

      • Dara says:

@icerose – Completely agree, he’ll add the classic country cred this project needs. The world is a funny place – I didn’t really know who he was until I read of his involvement and after a few quick Google searches I learn he’s performing with Emmylou Harris this weekend just down the road from where I live.

      • icerose says:

@Dara I was a big Emmylou fan back when he was part of her Hot band. There is a Willie Nelson movie that Rodney appears in as well. He was from a dirt poor background as well so he has similar roots to Hank.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Dara, if you can, go see that show. I saw Crowell and Emmylou three times in the past year and it was a fantastic show each time. And speaking of Emmylou, what is with that woman? She gets more and more and more gorgeous every year she ages.

    • Word Girl says:

      – Fumbles through the drawer in the lighthouse bedroom looking for Sherlock Holmes’ number to get him on the case –

      – Checks the purse, realizes cash is short-

On second thought, I’ve better call Sherlock Holmeboy and his sidekick Watkins. We’ll steal my Tommy back. We’ll find you Lilac Flowers, and your precious ‘P’enny too!

      • 'p'enny says:

HA! Benny isn’t going to help you! he is well under Secret Squirrel’s thumb. But nice try.

      • Word Girl says:

        @ ‘P’enny,
Had I known your weakness was the chewy, chocolaty sweet stuff, I’d have bribed earlier.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Word Girl, Sherlock Holmes? Sherlock Holmes? Did you happen to notice the gentleman with whom Tom was sharing those shackles? Jonny Lee Miller aka Sherlock Holmes! And he’s positively livid with you! He was so worried that you had harmed Tom and that Abby_J would beat him (actually, he seemed to want Abby_J to beat him but that’s between them.) As for that other Sherlock Holmes, he’s wandering around the neighborhood somewhere, trying to figure out how to pass himself off as 5 feet, 4 inches tall. And no, RDJ is not going to help. He’s staying out of this.

The thing is, we are only all to willing to share so that everyone can be happy. You only needed to ask but now, all the gentleman are afraid of you and it will take lots of brownies, hobnobs, whiskey, and vodka to calm them down. Except Mark. Mark won’t forget that you fired on him.

      • Intro Outro says:

ROFL at Benny the Would-Be Corrupt Midget 😛 Someone has got to go and console him! Not me though, I do not find him shag… er, sorry, particularly consolable. Even sans white snickers.

      • Intro Outro says:

..aaaand I meant sneakers. Yep. Guess I was snickering too much and that got the better of me English grammar 😛

      • icerose says:

“”As for that other Sherlock Holmes, he’s wandering around the neighborhood somewhere, trying to figure out how to pass himself off as 5 feet, 4 inches tall. And no, RDJ is not going to help. He’s staying out of this.””
Well if he succeeds in his shrinking he might fit in my Bugatti Veyron glove compartment. I can then keep him long enough to grow his curls back and knock up something fashionable for the new vertically challenged Cumberbatch.
My Bugatti Veyron is not only large but the contents of my boot are younger and very lithe to help maximise the speed for a quick exit when Tom comes to join in the hillbilly Shakespearian jamming session. I may include Rodney Crowell as he and Tom seem to have a thing going now a days and having a wise old man of music a board might help settle my band of newcomers.
But fear not I was born to share and will return Tom at dawn unharmed and radiant with the special glow that only music and dancing can give him

      • Abby_J says:

        @ Lilacflowers

” And he’s positively livid with you! He was so worried that you had harmed Tom and that Abby_J would beat him (actually, he seemed to want Abby_J to beat him but that’s between them.) ”

I have never laughed so hard at anything on this site in my life. I think I couldn’t breathe for a few seconds because I was laughing so hard!

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Abby_J, did you stop laughing long enough to give JLM what he wants?

      • Abby_J says:

I think that is between me and JLM. 🙂

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Abby J, okay, just so long as he doesn’t get all fractious again.

    • Abby_J says:

Oh great news! I knew that teaching Tommy the way to run home was an excellent idea. 🙂

      • Lilacflowers says:

        Good job, Abby_J!

      • Word Girl says:

        @Lilac Flowers
        * Rushes through your garden of flowers with a muscular, handsome Anthony Mackey carrying a long tray of hobnobs, brownies, whiskey, and vodka, and a sunflower scented Hallmark card as bargaining tools for a few weekends with Tommy. *

Hello Lilac Flowers, I’ve com bearing sunflower scented apologies and sweets for my Tommy.
*Glances suspiciously around for my Tommykins. I didn’t mean to steal him. Anthony was gone away on holiday, and I was lonesome. Can all ever be forgiven?

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Word Girl, all will be forgiven as soon as the boys calm down and return from their trip to the concert with ‘p’enny.

    • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

      @Lilacflowers

I was the vicious kidnapper and I did NOT forget to take his phone away….. He had two, mischievous scoundrel!! :/

  9. Beth says:

    He’s so perfect.

    • This man (and his People) could teach the rest of the celebrities of the universe a thing or two about how to handle publicity with a dash of class while maintaining one’s privacy. Well-played Tom.

      • M.A.F. says:

Really? I think some might argue the other way.

      • Cecilia says:

I so agree. That is one of the things I admire about him. He does the things he is obligated to do – perform his roles, promote his films and, yes, promote his career – with such grace, intelligence and enthusiasm all while apparently having the time of his life. That is what makes him such a fun celebrity to watch. Knowing more about his private life would add nothing much to my enjoyment.

      • Lilacflowers says:

        @Highland Fashionista, agreed!

      • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

I could agree with everything you said if the interview had not been released on the Daily Fail….

    • Word Girl says:

Must make undercover deals with Secret Squirrel to get Sherlock Holmeboy under my command.

      @ Secret Squirrel,
My dear , will 100 acorns do?

      • Lilacflowers says:

Secret Squirrel has been visiting my garden where my secret husband Chris Evans has been serving her frozen daiquiris for months.

      • Secret Squirrel says:

And now you’ve blown my cover Lilac!!

Could you please ask your secret husband to put on a shirt though when he is serving me drinks as his taut sweaty body is blocking my view of the gate for when Tom comes marching home…

@Word Girl – 100 acorns?? HA ha ha ha ha ha ha! I have a forest of oak trees with thousands of acorns on each one! You will have to dig much MUCH deeper to get me to the negotiating table for Ben or Tom (and only when you have paid will I tell you that I NEVER negotiate Ben or Tom!).

      • Lilacflowers says:

Oh dear, Secret Squirrel (****WARNING TO EVE – READY SMELLING SALTS****), I don’t believe my dear secret husband Chris owns a shirt. I’ll just have him shower before he bring those drinks out to you so his taut torso won’t be sweaty. Oh, Tom was safely rescued from the kidnapper. He’s out running with Abby_J this morning. They’ll be back soon and you can all prepare lunch together.

Again, Word Girl, we do share but they’re all afraid of you right now.

      • Isadora says:

Fassy isn’t afraid of anyone/anything – not even Naomi’s Blackberry – but unfortunately he is my preciousssss…. and he is constantly chained to me at the moment because he has, well… a disposition for straying a bit, the old horndog. So don’t even try to kidnap him!

      • Word Girl says:

        @ Secret Squirrel,
Wouldn’t want to have to…er…hem send Tori Spelling back there in the garden with plenty of tissues and a couple of her marital sob stories and a few daiquiris of her own to bore you to tears, do I?

        * Prepares invisible net as small trap filled with 250 acorns and a fountain of daiquiri to lure in Secret Squirrel. Glances around suspiciously to make sure no one took notice.*
Guess I am outnumbered here. Best be on my way then.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Word Girl, come in, sit down, enjoy a frosty beverage, and enjoy the view.

  10. OhDear says:

Was this interview done in advance and the article only published now or was it done recently in response to HWIII’s comments?

If it’s the latter, I wish he would have let the performance speak for itself (assuming it goes well), otherwise it seems a touch defensive.

Also, Hillbilly Shakespeare. Of course, lol.

    • icerose says:

it was typical Tom -he would have done it anyway. He always works hard to sell his films and explain the attraction for him as an actor

    • T.C. says:

The interview was done yesterday in response to HankIII’s comments.

      • Murphy says:

No, the interview (and a few others) was done when the announcement was made. It just wasn’t published until yesterday.

      • Isadora says:

And nothing in the interview indicates that it’s actually a response in any form.

    • Lilacflowers says:

It would seem to have been done in response to the interviewer’s request and it was done several days ago.

  11. SpookySpooks says:

He’s good actor, he will pull this off.
Plus, he’s really handsome, isn’t he?

    • AG-UK says:

I agree I don’t think he would take it on with the off chance of f…g up. He will I hope pull a Sissy Spacek (Coal Miner’s Daughter) but she was from the South. I can’t wait to see it whenever that will be 2015 he has been rehearsing it seems since last month so he will have a good 6 months to get it right.

  12. Altariel says:

Looks like this might be a serious, well-executed telling of Hank William’s life. There was lots of legal drama after his death too, between the ex-wife and his mom against the new wife, that went on for decades. The movie may not get into all that, but tragedy all around for this guy, huh? Surely anyone can see Tom has the knack for tortured souls? 🙂

    • Leah says:

It seems his stock and trade is emotionally complicated characters. I’m not complaining, he excels at it. Didn’t he say in an interview recently that in the future he just wanted to play a normal person? I don’t see that happening for a while.

      • Altariel says:

Normal, nah, no time soon! And he said he wanted to just wear jeans. Guess he’s gonna do that at least, lol.

    • M.A.F. says:

There would be no point in going into details of what happened after his death because that wouldn’t make for an interesting story. Who cares about the legal & family drama being played out in the court room? That stuff would be great for the tabloids but not for the plot of a movie.

    • Intro Outro says:

It’s good they’ll be concentrating on a smaller chunk of Hank’s life, I find biopics that cover a person’s WHOLE life to be too… dispersed?

Also can’t wait to find out who will be cast in lead female roles.

  13. Altariel says:

Who’s he sticking that tongue out at? Yeah, right back at you, buddy!

  14. Mia4S says:

Oh no. Oh no no no. I hope the interview was a coincidence and not a response to the criticism. Do not engage silly man, it’s like chum in the water for sharks. Let the work speak. I can never tell if he gets bad advice or is just incredibly insecure.

    • Roberta says:

MIA4S, interesting I think it’s both, hence the quick publication in the DM.

    • icerose says:

It is not unusual for Tom to give a discourse on a new role and it certainly tweaks your interest.
This was done as much for the daily mail readership many of whom will be country fans.It will well as an explanation for those Brits who know nothing about the man or country music.

      • Roberta says:

It’s not the UK fans who need convincing is it though?

      • Gingerly says:

@ Roberta. Right. It is US Hank jr’s fans not UK fans that need convincing. Yes, it was quick. But I think if Tom had spoken to a US media, that would have been too direct and more or less disrespectful.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Nor the Portuguese fans either.. 🙂

      • icerose says:

why not the UK fans who need convincing as well-films are pretty international these days and Tom will bring in more of a UK and international audience-it just needs to be sold in a different way to the UK and Europe

      • Isadora says:

Maybe it’s the other way round: not supposed to convince US Hank fans of Tom, but to convince Tom fans in the UK to watch a movie about a country singer. 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

Why does anyone need to be convinced at this point? Make the movie and then let people view it and decide themselves.

      • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

        @Lilacflowers

I agree with you. Nobody needs to be convinced. I remember people went to see Les Mis movie regardless of the fact Russell Crowe was out of tone or not… The movie appealed to the fans of the musical, less to the fans of the actors involved in the movie…. I won’t see this movie because I couldn’t care less about country music, although I like Tom as an actor… I guess it will be the same for others too?

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

        Yeah, probably I won’t see it either… Not a fan of country music… .

  15. Lucretia says:

Tom also took to the social media airwaves yesterday, posting (_himself_, apparently, not “Team Tom”) on his official Facebook page and Twitter to promote Joanna Hogg’s new movie “Exhibition” and where to see it in NYC. The Tumblr world will be aflutter over his emergence from the “hiding out” they’re convinced he’s been doing since Bora Bora. (those Tumblr folks have some amazing imaginations)

Glad to see him talking about work.
Glastonbury? Wimbledon? Should be an interesting week ahead!

    • Lilacflowers says:

The Exhibition showing in NYC will also include showings of Unrelated and Archipelago. So wish I was free to get down there to see them all together.

      • Lucretia says:

@Lilacflowers — thank you! I haven’t seen any of them, so glad to know!
There was an interesting piece of an interview (was it on CB?) with Joanna Hogg where she talked about creating roles for Tom to stretch and explore characters not like himself. She sounds like quite an extraordinary artist.

      • Kate2 says:

Wonder if distribution of Archipelago in the US isn’t far behind? That would be awesome.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Lucretia, I think that interview was on the Guardian website.
@Kate2, i wish they would release that in Blu Ray/DVD in the US or allow showings in additional theaters, like the Brattle or Harvard Film Archive. I also hope that they do release Exhibition for a broader, at least art house, distribution.

    • joe spider says:

don’t even go to the townbycycle thread it’s 👿

      • M.A.F. says:

Oh lord. I think I have figured out who this person is (the girl running it). I could be wrong though but she is very bias and has a lot of time on her hands recently to be so involved for someone who says she isn’t a fan.

      • Dara says:

@M.A.F – I admit I’m curious about that person and their motives, which I realize is probably the point of the whole exercise. She (I’m assuming gender) takes great pains to convince everyone she’s neutral and is, “just providing a forum for others to share thoughts, etc. etc.” yet when someone dares to poke holes in one of the more buckets-of-crazy theories she calls them a nanny fan and mocks them for their delusion. She has also said she’s not a fan of Tom or his work and couldn’t care less one way or the other. If that’s true then why spend so much time and effort on something you don’t care about?

My guess is what she really cares about is being noticed as the ring leader of that particular circus and it wouldn’t much matter who was center ring (a dancing bear or maybe an Otter in a silly hat) as long is there was an audience to watch the antics.

      • joe spider says:

@ M.A.F, can you give us a clue?

Stuff on that site is and she doesn’t seem to realise you don’t need to prove malice in an English court. Although it will never come to that of course.

      • Miss Melissa says:

        @Dara

She can say what she likes now, but she’s a fan gurl. The start of the blog dates back to Susannah Fielding. It was an Anti-Susie blog. And there she spilled her lust for Tom and hate for his GF.

Doesn’t appear to me like much has changed. Oh, and she says that Shataina chick was truth telling.

        Sure.

Bottom line for me? I don’t doubt he’s shagged fangurls, has a gal in every port and may have sampled the substances at Hollywood parties. That doesn’t make the guy the Satan they are attempting to portray him to be. And the picture they paint flies in the face of other professional’s experience of him.

Whatever, bitter fan gurls! He has a private life that doesn’t involve you! Grow the EFF up.

I will say this… I do think he ducked out of the fashion walk and hid out. He’s done it before and it is a wimpy move. He has admitted repeatedly he avoids confrontation, and I suspect that includes answering uncomfortable questions about his personal life… which he would have been asked.

He should man up and simply do his thing and hold his head up high.

      • icerose says:

I thought the bike site had been closed down,. One minute she was calling those who criticised her names and saying they could nothing to stop her and about two minutes later the site became unavailable. The anons were getting very repetitious and so full of contradictions it was getting quite silly.

      • icerose says:

@Miss Melissa Iagree with your take on the person who was running it.The sampling a few joints and other highs on offer at parties does not seem unreasonable but I need more evidence than a conflicting anons and the reports of obsessed fan girls to start believing he shags his fans and has addiction issues. And i doubt a few malicious posts would stop him attending the fashion show. The tweet was pretty vague and for all we know Tom may not have confirmed or there was some mis- communication. He or Luke repost stuff he is in and there was no response at all.

      • 'p'enny says:

        Miss Melissa
        okay, here i go…
there is no way he ducked out of personal ask by Samuel L Jackson for a charity gig on the account of 1% of his fans having a paddy about his GF/FWB hol pic. He didn’t duck out of the other charity gig, which you/other people adhere too, he said on Twitter that was a misunderstanding. No one press wise and friends wise would have given two hoots about that twitter released pic. And, there was no opportunities for the general public aka fan-nuts to get anywhere near him to hassle him.

My guess is, he was doing

        a) having family time with Dad, [father’s day] he is getting on a bit, he’s in his 70’s and lives out of london.
        b) filming an avengers cameo in Norfolk/norwich? [why Joss W were you filming at Norfolk Uni?]
        c) filming a jag advert which he is contracted to do
        d) both b&c he can’t tell anyone about filming either at all.
        e) flying to Ireland for preproduction read throughs for High Rise, after all he is the lead and the rest of the film crew are there and Ben Wheatley’s storyboards are on a wall in the gym.

or maybe he was sick, there was is an awful amount of bad summer colds going around.

      • Dara says:

@icerose – site still there, just had a name change. I’m trying very hard to walk away (thus far unsuccessfully, to my shame). Just when I think I’ve had my fill, something out of left field pops up – for example, she’s convinced Tom has visited the site over 30 times because she uses an IP tracker and someone in his London neighborhood has been logging on regularly and soon after that someone else at an entertainment law firm logged on, which can only mean he’s gotten his attorneys involved (eye-roll). It couldn’t possibly be a bored paralegal on their lunch break.

If it is Tom, I hope he’s turned it into a drinking game – one shot of Grey Goose for every time you see the word ‘Jane’ or ‘FWB’. Actually that sounds like a decent way to spend my Friday night – anyone else in?

      • Miss Melissa says:

        @’p’enny

Opinions are opinions. I appreciate you expressing yours.

However I wasn’t referring to fan gurls harrassing him. IMHO, it did not go unnoticed by the general media, but they could not run with the story because it was a private photo and caption on a private facebook page. Out of bounds for mainstream press. That is also why it was not a topic here, at Lainey or Oh no they didn’t. But that doesn’t mean the mainstream press could not and would not take the opportunity to ask him directly about his status. He has been asked about it and her in almost every profile for the last six months.

BTW, please don’t refer to me as “you people.” I am not in a group or a representative of one. I am simply one person expressing an opinion that happens to differ from yours.

And was it international father’s day? I thought it was only the American date… as Mother’s Day differs in the UK.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

You’re still discussing the substances and the “hiding” of Hiddley??
Yeah, God knows… I think I’ve read a couple of things the other day on that page… had a crisis of insomnia…. She even posted “pictures of the interior of his house”… Do people actually believe that ? I’m sometimes gulible, but there’s a limit.. oh find funny that the pics are from different houses.. ihihihihi

      • Miss Melissa says:

        @sonalaceae (Nighty)

I have to say that anyone who thinks it is appropriate to post pictures and links to and of his house is beyond redemption. Whether they truly are or not is irrelevant. What could possibly be the goal? Nothing good could come of that.

Completely inappropriate, beyond stalker, and frankly, just inviting someone with imbalances to do something dangerous.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

She claims to be from his house, but paying attention they are from different houses, and yeah, I agree with you, it’s very dangerous…. But the fans believe it… at least some..and that might be complicated…

      • M.A.F. says:

@Joe Spider-The person running that blog is definitely a fan of his & I’m 100% positive this isn’t their only Tumblr page. Just go back to their very first postings on Susannah. As for who this person is, the way they keep knocking down anyone who throws an ounce of logic at them or is shown holes in some of the stories, they knock down and tells them they are wrong & her opinion is right, which is exactly what another blogger does-doesn’t listen to reason.
What I find annoying most about them is they keep playing stupid & can’t remember what they themselves have posted let alone what others have posted hence why there are so many repeat of stories. Heck, I’m annoyed w/myself that I keep going back!

      • icerose says:

@Penny I like to think there was a date mishap and he had already accepted an invitation to Levis wedding and felt he could not disappointment him
@Dara I saw a post that said a new sight had sprung up under a new name which makes me think the first was shut down hence the paranoia about Tom’s lawyers. Her obsession about Tom posting says much about her personal issues. I do know he has a fan who lives in his area. The fascination I have with it is just seeing how far some people will go to have their moment on tumblir
@Miss Melissa in all honesty if neither Tom or One or the Boys have not clarified the situation it means it was a possible misunderstanding about dates and both are too polite to a portion blame or something came up that Tom was not at liberty to reveal.. The press were focused on the fashion show and it is unusual for press in this country to challenge actors who are appearing at charity events even if they thought a few unsubstantiated posts on a fan site were worth their time which I doubt they did. But in the end the only people who deserve an explanation were Tom or the organisers not his tumblir fans

      • icerose says:

‘@Dara and one for every time she says he has posted and another for every bit of fluff seen on his jacket.
@Miss Milissa The reason the anon blogs are not being talked about elsewhere is because no one takes them seriously and ultimately endless discussions about malicious anon postings which have no basis no basis in reality and is pretty boring .The blog itself is quite boring -it’s the psychology behind it that I find fascinating.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Stupid question… If she’s a fan, why posting so much hate??? It’s really twisted…

      • Isadora says:

Ah.. this site. It’s totally blown out of proportion even if the person behind it obviously thinks she is very important. I wrote quite a bit here about it, but edited it because in the end it’s just that: not much of an issue and probably best ignored.

Most of the stuff there is either not scandalous (like.. sleeping with women.. wow.. lol), totally rehashed (Shaitana story) or VERY easily disproved and completely dreamed up (like the “Tom visited this site” and “the law firm”). Nobody with a bit of IP knowledge can believe that.

Therefore: let the tumblr blog die in peace. 😉

      • Janeite says:

Our very own former Miss Thing is one of her chief “sources.” So make of that what you will.

      • Sunflower says:

Somebody please send help. It’s a train wreck and I can’t seem to stop looking. Also, I played Dara’s drinking game and I’m pretty sure I need a new liver.

      • Isadora says:

It seems my previous answer never made it… oh well..

All I want to say: the bycycle takes herself much more serious than there is any reason to. I mean all the “scandalous” stories there… since when is having a fling or two or ten a scandal? Most of the “the sister of my brother’s wife’s cousin told me” stories are rehashed versions of old datalounge gossip anyway. Or the old MissThing/Shaitana story. Or it’s so easily disproved that it’s not even funny. (like IP and the law firm stuff etc. – such whishful thinking!) So basically there is nothing and I doubt TH loses his sleep because of it lol.

So unless they get some new fiction writers for the blog it will become uninteresting when the novelty wears off and eventually die down. I guess it’s best to just ignore the mess as that’s probably the one thing the bycycle blogger can’t have – no attention.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Yeah janeite, i know… apparently they even have screencaps of dialogues here…

      • Lilacflowers says:

I check that site in the morning for laughs. As an attorney, I have to say that the legal theories posted there are beyond preposterous – but I’ll just be labelled a “nanny” for saying so. In the US, attaching certain words with sexual connotations to a named woman, regardless of public/private status constitutes defamation per se and she doesn’t have to prove damages. Allegations of drug use also have a lower standard in defamation cases – and when your claims of drug use consist of a picture with a dash of white on a pant leg, while similar dashes of white are falling from the sky all around the subject’s head, well, here in the northern parts of North America, we call that “sleet”, not cocaine. The site owner keeps referring to “dirty little secrets”, but no dirty little secrets seem to ever be forthcoming. So what if he has sex? He’s a healthy, 33 year old, attractive, wealthy male. It would be weird if he wasn’t sexually active. The big reveals are either crap that has been overly analyzed and refuted elsewhere or total nonsense like: “OMG, he walked through the red light district of Amsterdam, just like a million other tourists each year, and told his then girlfriend Gwen what he saw!” They seriously have cooked up a ridiculous scenario of making him testify about the banana story in a court room. So preposterous! The whole “his law firm is monitoring the site” totally cracks me up. If a law firm was taking interest, it would contact Tumblr and, upon production of a subpoena or court order, Tumblr would shut the site down for its own protection – which happens constantly. The law firm would not bother contacting the shallow-pocketed blogger unless there was a safety issue, in which case, the police would be involved.

      • Janeite says:

Dara, Sunflower, and Nighty-don’t be ashamed or embarassed that you’ve been checking it out! Nothing wrong with curiousity. Not surprised that CB has been mentioned either. That “source” really dislikes us since her story was not believed here. Maybe she can get some peace now that her mission to expose the “real” Tom Hiddleston has been achieved!

      • Dara says:

@Sunflower, I am so sorry! Looking back, i probably should have picked something a little more obscure, like ‘Shakespeare’ or ‘logic’. Oh well, too late now…cheers to all y’all *hic*, followed by *sloppy kiss*. Fun evening ends with *faceplant onto bed fully clothed*… Send me the bill for your new liver.

      • 'p'enny says:

        @Icerose

Zachery Levis wedding! what a brilliant idea. think you may have hit the nail on the head there with Mojnlir.

sorry Miss Melissa if i came across a bit strong, it’s just there is a lot on that specific tumblr site been winding me up saying the same thing about him ducking out because the pic. I just find it ludicrous.

      • Isadora says:

(oh it seems my previous comment is now there too… so, sorry for kind of double post!)

I agree with everything you said, Lilacflowers!!! *applause*

Sometimes I think it’s a pity that I’m actually Hiddles’ fan because my fabricated stories would be much better, imho. Ah… the possibilities, the ideas… the anons would be equally thrilled and horrified.

Afaik Tom wasn’t at Zachary Levi’s wedding (there was a photo online of the male guests sans Tom). :/ And while I think they get along really well I don’t think they are wedding-invitation-close…

      • Intro Outro says:

*stands in the middle of Celebitchy Av. blocking entrance to Knockbycycle Alley with two glowing aircraft marshalling batons* ATTENTION! Please turn around! Delusional fan-baiting and fame-wh*ring theories coupled with denial and general incoherence ahead! Imminent danger of excessive face-palming, head-desking and complete loss of faith in humanity (which has fallen so far Loki is now thinking that maybe he should’ve gone for chitauri. Or black elves.)

      • 'p'enny says:

        @isadora

ooh boring. 🙁 disappointed i was imagining dance-off at the wedding. he does love a good wedding dance.

      • Isadora says:

@Intro: *gg* Danger zone, indeed! (Aaaah… classic Comic Con Loki – perfect. And yes, why he wanted to rule humanity of all things, that’s a real question.)

@’p’enny: yes, their dance off was epic! 🙂

      • Janeite says:

Intro Outro: that made me LOL! It’s so accurate! But of course we’re all “nannies” in denial who think Hiddles is a Unicorn Prince! 😉

Lilacflowers: I’m an attorney too! How cool! You summed up the whole defamation of character/slander/libel thing quite nicely. I haven’t visited the blog since I realized who her “source” was and how none of her stories are true. But the need for attention and validation supercedes any of that for both the blogger and her “source”. Oh well.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Just cruised by and am laughing so hard that I am in pain! After a big build-up about how she had seven verified sources who knew him and were feeding her information, she (claims to be a 32 year old female) posted a “Dish” on all the dirt her trusted sources gave her, which, after regurgitating a whole bunch of nothing about insecurities and daddy issues and FWBs and crap that has been posted and refuted elsewhere, reveals shockingly that he doesn’t like it when people talk about his private parts and he got custody of a rescue cat named Chicken after the breakup with SF. The horror! He has a cat! Oh wait, so do I.

      • Janeite says:

There is no cat named Chicken. Miss Thing was the victim of a cruel joke. I tried to tell the blogger the whole story but she chose not to believe me and instead to go with Miss Thing’s story. Probably because it gets her more attention. The sad truth of the matter is that everything that was told to Miss Thing was part of a joke. Anyone who chooses to believe it has fallen for a bunch of made-up BS. The blogger and Miss Thing’s take is that I am somehow “protecting” Tom Hiddleston and some woman he pines for. Sorry gang, that is simply not true.

      • Isadora says:

Lilacflowers, don’t forget that he doesn’t like to sleep with women who stink! *lol* What an incredible surprise…

      • neverland says:

@janeite, could I be cheeky and ask about miss thing’s claims of phonecalls and video messages? Obviously that’s not something which can be faked because… it’s his face and voice (quite distinctive and unlike the woman’s face/voice who she has this beef with). I assume it’s just made up additions on her part? I do feel sorry for her, if this is the case. I also feel bad for the other woman (won’t name names) who’s been pulled up on the blog; I don’t personally believe she slept with tom – I believe she got talking to miss thing and wanted to be in on the gang, so to speak – but it’s just an almighty mess right now and some of the things being said about him are, as I said a couple of threads ago, disturbing.

      • Portia says:

That entire “dish” on that tumblr was word for word exactly MissThing/ Shaitana’s story. From beginning to end. MissThing/ Shaitana used to post those tit bits all over tumblr and now suddenly, it’s “confidential and verified” information.

Thanks, Nancy Drew. Just because you’re late to the party…the rest of us have been hearing that same “dish” since Tom and Jane were photographed at Wimbledon.

Don’t give up your day job just yet, Gossip Girl. Maybe stick to reading gossip instead of making it up?

      • Janeite says:

There are also stories about a pair of squeaky bunny slippers that Tom received as a gift, how he cooks in a pink frilly apron, how he has a Dr. Who poster in his bedroom, how he and Benedict Cumberbatch shovel snow and do errands for an elderly neighbore named Bea, some tripe about how he has had sexual encounters in limos prior to red carpet events and on set, how his father was physically abusive to him, he used to self-mutilate, etc, etc. I’m not sure what other super-secret info has been divulged to that blogger by her reliable sources, but those are all items that were told to Miss Thing by the prankster. And I can promise you that none of them are true.

      • Sunflower says:

Sounds like Janeite is a source! 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

Ah yes, I forgot the bunny slippers and the aversion to smelly women. How unusual that he wouldn’t want to have sex with a stinky person. And the continued insistence that he has treated people badly and deserves what he is getting without a single example of him treating a single person badly. And the continued waffling on the claims about BoraBora woman. First, the insistence that Bora Bora was the end, but now, well, she supposedly was there all last weekend after causing a scandalous scene in the street, because I’m sure Helena Bonham-Carter tolerates screaming scenes in front of her house, and she closed her Twitter because of Byke woman’s blog. Whenever someone points out that her “dish” doesn’t identify a single act of wrong-doing, she tells them to “see the dish.” And she has backed off on the drug stories, saying instead that they’ve already been covered and require no further comment. And, OMG, he may have seen girlfriend Gwen naked or something. In addition to Miss Thing, one of her sources is the DL guy, who would change his story from one end of a DL thread to another. She still is swimming in the libel per se pool with her comments about a named woman’s sexual activities. It really is a shining example of fan-fiction run amok.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Apparently, Cumberbatch has parked himself at the bar at Sonsie for the duration of the World Cup. (mind-boggling as there are thousands of better places to watch sports in Boston). I’m tempted to go in, show him the blog, and demand that he help me stage an intervention to rescue his poor friend, whom he has been enabling.

      • Isadora says:

Yeah, I also recognised DL guy! *g* Always the same people…

btw I would love to see Helena Bonham-Carter go all Bellatrix on some “Jane” for disturbance of the peace *lol*

And Lilacflowers, let’s not bring poor Cumby to tumblr haha… The place is not fit for his eyes or ears. In fact the whole internet is not a place for him, I guess. :/ About the intervention: I guess it would be rather easy to bring the blog down if someone sets his mind to it – without Cumby, Hiddles or any legal action.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Oh my, the things you girls know….. Is that all in that hilarious site??? ihihihihihih, she’s got a vivid imagination…

      • Lilacflowers says:

Yes, nighty, it is all there and so much more that has been kicked around and found lacking or irrelevant for years. Seriously, the guy never took a vow of chastity, did he? But we’re “nannies” for laughing. Normally, I leave what is on a board there, different board cultures and all that, but this is like watching a farcical train wreck.

      • Ava says:

@joe spider and the posters below. I agree 100 percent. I Like CB’s fun harmless gossip. It is best to stay off this persons blog and not give her any more attention. IMAO it is a really sad and depressing tumblr.

      • Intro Outro says:

@neverland, didn’t quite understand you about phone-calls and video-messages. Has that person on that blog actually posted links to corresponding files? Or are they *saying* they have these files on their hands?

      • Janeite says:

        Neverland,
The calls had their originating number blocked so Miss Thing could not see where they were coming from. There were no text message chats. There were Skype audio conversations but no video conversations. If Miss Thing says otherwise, she is not telling the truth. The Skype account that was allegedly Tom’s was just a fake account. Miss Thing did ask for a video chat but the prankster told her no, that “Tom” was afraid she would screencap it and share it. Same reason given for why “Tom” blocked his phone number also. Fake email addresses were used too. The person pretending to be Tom does a great British accent and sounds very like him.

I tried to tell Miss Thing it was all a joke and she would not listen. Same with the blogger. And I am not a “source” in any way, shape, or form. I just happened to find out the sad truth. That’s all there is to it.

Remember when Miss Thing said on here last year that her story would sound like bad fanfiction? That’s because it basically is bad fanfiction.

OK – I’m finally walking away from that tumblr site and not looking back. How can none of the anon’s notice that every new theory contradicts the last? Secretly hates fans but carries on cyber-relationships with a precious few…Is a notorious workaholic but still finds time to consume enough drugs and alcohol to bring down an elephant…Can’t resist any girl with a great rack but shagged Ken Branagh to get his first part…Treats everyone in his life as disposable but is so plagued with insecurities he’ll go into hiding at merest whiff of image tarnish…has a trust fund large enough to fund a small country but chases luxury brand endorsements and swag like a Kardashian…a certain Bora Bora beach buddy is only a FWB but he also has a serious girlfriend that he took to the Olivier’s… I know we all ‘contain multitudes’ – quoting Tom quoting Walt Whitman – but this is beyond stupid.

In the end, it says more about the psychology of the gossipers than it does about the subject of the gossip. I like dishy celeb gossip as much as the next girl, but I also realize that virtually none of it has any basis in actual fact or is an accurate indicator of the real person behind the persona.

      • Janeite says:

        Dara-
The reason for all the contradictions is because none of it is true. That blog’s main “source” is neither reliable nor factual. And the rest of the anon messages just became a giant pile-on of ever more obnoxious speculation.

But time is the best truth-teller there is. If Tom doesn’t go into rehab or get fired from jobs due to bad behavior and if the tabloids and media have nothing juicy to say about him at some point, then I leave you all to draw your own conclusions about the veracity of that blog and its sources.

      • Sunflower says:

Also, are they not allowed to use punctuation on Tumblr? I mean, I know everyone’s in a hurry to have their say, but do you think you could actually reread your post and correct the typos? Some of the posts make absolutely no sense.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Sunflower, oh dear Sunflower, you are such a “nanny!” Just like me. I love it!

      • Intro Outro says:

Oh, did he shag Branagh to get his part as Ivanov, Martinsson or Loki? So much shagging to do… So much inspiration for slash fanfiction writers…

  16. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Hank III has a right to his opinion, but it really bugs me that he made those remarks. It sounds so ignorant. Ain’t nobody can play a hick but a hick hisself. Ayup.

    • MissMary says:

Hank III isn’t exactly known for being understanding and magnanimous, iirc. I live in Texas and work hard to avoid country music as much as possible, lol, but every once in a while he comes up in conversation or a news story and it’s never in a positive way.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Do you think he wanted the role for himself, or he’s just a sort of negative person?

      • joe spider says:

        @GoodnamesAllTaken

I’m sure he did, grapes all sour or what?

      • icerose says:

probably the reason he was not cast in the first place-that and his lack of acting skills

      • MissMary says:

I think he’s a negative person, personally, but that’s just based on what I’ve read about/seen of him in interviews and the like.

  17. Maria says:

Okay, I’m less weary about this.

I know HE will prepare his ass off, I just side eye the industry when it comes to biopics and Americans who look down on southerners/ country music but are quick to claim the legends.

    /I’m a Texan, what can I say…

    • icerose says:

I think it is brave decision on Tom’s part from the UK side as well. Country music still has a lot of detractors in the UK.There has been some break through as more and more musical artists have started to explore is roots and sing its praises. When I arrived in the UK back in the early 70’s I remember watching a show on Johnny Cash at Fulsome prison and they made a point of calling him a folk singer because country music back then had such a small audience.
So Tom choosing to play and old time country music star might have a lot of people scratching their heads and saying why?

    • icerose says:

I have always been a big fan of the alternative country scene based in Texas. Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock ,Guy Clark ,Rodney Corwell, Townes Van , Zant There was a great documentary about the scene there I watched a while back and another that focussed on Guy Clark with a group of the which included Rodney having a music session in his house.
I have never seen the point of ownership in music especially today when different genres gather fans around the world. Way back in the 70’80’s I came across people in the UK who were huge fans of the older country singers like Hank so to me its more about the fanbase than ownership.

  18. Kate2 says:

I love TH but my god he’s such a cornball.

Going to stay off this thread. With the all TH posts lately I’m getting a bit overdosed. 🙂

      • TotallyBiased says:

        I love you ‘p’enny…just sayin’……

      • Intro Outro says:

Awww Roberta, I understand the frustration when you’re expecting/enjoying one style of discussion but instead get another, but personally I prefer fan gossip 😛

      • joe spider says:

Can’t fans gossip or gossips be fans?

      • icerose says:

The best is a bit of a mix of gossip ,fanning fun and gossiping but lately apart from Bora Bora any realistic gossip re Tom is negligible.

      • Isadora says:

Yes, the problem is that there isn’t much gossip about him these days.. A FWB (or something like it) is hardly something to go on and on about. I think pretty much everything has been said in the last 600 comments or so. Not even sites exclusively dedicated to “scandalous gossip” about him have something, it’s mostly rehashed datalounge stuff.

      • Lilacflowers says:

        @’p’enny, hugs, sister!

    • Janeite says:

Are you a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate2? There are threads about him multiple times a week! Not that I’m complaining!

And Roberta, feel free to say whatever you like or skip over those parts of the thread that don’t interest you. There is usually a lot of healthy disagreement on here so threads where everyone actually gets along are not that common!

      • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

It’s also improbable to agree about everything concerning an actor/celebrity… I like Tom but I don’t agree with everything he does / says and all the opinions posted about it….

    • Anne tommy says:

“Love TH but now had too much of him on CB”? No stamina. Can’t be the real thing….you’ll be joining the cumberbitches next.

  19. Gingerly says:

In the original article the reporter said he/she talked with Tom yesterday. So definitively after Hank 3’s remark. Though I don’t think Tom sounds defensive here – and I think he has a right to defend himself and producdrs/ director as long as he does not blame Hank 3 foolishly.

Most of Tom’s words are matter-of-factish explanation and he showes his great knowledge and admiration for the singer without ever mentioning the nationality or regionality issue. Instead he highlights Hank jr’s universal appleal, and maybe that’s right because the film should entertain general theater goers as well as Hank jr’s fans.

Glad that Tom has been practicing already and has a great musician to help him. I don’t doubt that when Tom says he will do his best he means it, beause I haven’t heard him said so, even in his Shakespearean projects.

  20. aquarius64 says:

Sorry that Daily Mail interview was a wrong call PR wise. One, it looks like a hard sell. Two, it serves to alienate Hank III and others who may think like him. They’ll take him as an uppity Brit who is talking down to the “colonials”. He took offense to the criticism and he’s firing back. It will not matter how much preparation he has for the role. If Hiddleston doesn’t convey he understands and respects the concerns of Hank Jr. ‘s family, friends, and die-hard fans this movie will not sell.

    • icerose says:

but it is not written for a USA audience -it focuses on a UK readership who may not even know who Hank is let alone the details of his life unless they are country music fans. Some people may be wondering why an up and coming Oliver award winner is playing some American country and western singer This interview fills in the gaps.

      • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

Considering the number of fans of HW abroad, I might disagree with what you said in the first sentence…. I had no idea who HW was before one week ago, to be honest….

      • icerose says:

@LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F.That was my point. Not that many Brits know much about Hank Williams and his life. so he was basically pimping the film for a UK audience. There is however a country fan base which varies between older country artists and new wave. We even have a country radio show over here,

      • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

        @icerose

Oopsie… Sorry I misinterpreted your post!

    • icerose says:

The daily mail is hardly uppity-it’s readership is more working class than arty or aristocratic. It does not sound defensive to me at all just good PR for a UK audience,
If Hank and co do take offence that says more about then than the article,He does nothing but praise an artist who in some eyes of some Brits is probably not even worthy of a bio. But my guess is that most people in the states are not as insular as Hank’s criticisms seem to imply.

      • aquarius64 says:

I’m an American and I picked up on the DM article online, which means other Americans can read this article too. It would be a matter of time before American publications run it and this movie will come to the States. FYI – in certain quarters of the US, “hillbilly” is considered an insult; it implies the person is low -class and/or stupid. I’m saying Hiddleston and this studio better clean this up for an American audience if they want this movie to do well. (The fact there was rapid response to HWIII shows a concern.) TH’s popularity as Loki will only get him so far.

      • Camil says:

is the word hillbilly an insult? Because I read the “Hillbilly Shakespeare” thing in many articles the last week. I thought it was a nickname or something like that o.0

      • 'p'enny says:

        @aquarius64

as Camil says it’s not Hiddle’s expression it was already a coined phrase by others and in context. However, i do agree if this is an adjective best left alone because it is seen as prejudiced and derogatory then don’t use it.

      • icerose says:

But many of online bios call him the Hillbilly Shakespeare which is actually quite a compliment especially coming from Tom. It sounds as if some people in the South are quite defensive about how people outside the US see them??But it works both ways Brits are often seen as snobbish and culturally superior when in reality we have a broad social span. I do like to think some of these stereotypes are breaking down and Tom had nothing but praise for his music and song writing. If I was from the south I would be proud of what he said about a singer from my locality.

      • Kristin says:

Yeah, hillbilly is considered an insult. Call anybody a hillbilly and you’ll likely get a fist to the face:)

      • Camil says:

Well, languages constantly change. Nowadays hillbilly is considered an insult but fifty years ago probably it had a different connotation, but who knows xD

      • Lilacflowers says:

“Hillbilly Shakespeare” is a nickname that has been attached to Hank Williams for decades.

      • Katie says:

I can see why people would think the Daily Mail is uppity as its readership is largely Conservative. It’s also generally an awful paper.

That being said, it seems unfair to judge this so early and it’s a shame the son made this public instead of approaching the people involved first.

      • LadyMacbeth ex Hiddles F. says:

Maybe conservative but judging from the comments I would say it is low class. The majority of posters doesn’t even know how to spell there…

    • Gingerly says:

I am not suere how this interview alienates Hank 3 or his family. Toms said what he can say as a Britsh actor and most generally. Tom says Hillbilly Shakespeare only passingly and if the director actually decided his mind watching Coriolanus he can say so.

      • Gingerly says:

@ joe spider. Yes Hillbilly S is not Tom’s coinage though I can fulluly understand kaiser’s desire to mock him again with the Bard.

    • 'P'enny says:

ooh it’s only Baz Bamiogne [?] wrong spelling, but he is well liked and does a lot of the theatre reviews for Mai [except Coriolanus] however as Celeb reporters go, he’s a good one and shouldn’t be mixed up with editor who buys in all the pap-rubbish .

It’s not really a proper interview, no photocall it looks like a quick coffee chat. When the film hits properly, I am sure the PR will be Culture specific dailies and weekend mags. Can’t wait. in the meantime.

Tom get dueting with Dolly at Glasto, she can be your real friend here.

      • icerose says:

THE English love Dolly -she and Tom need to appear on Graham Norton together

      • Isadora says:

@icerose: wow… that would be perfect! Love Graham Norton, but oh… I can only imagine what internet curiosity Graham drags up. *lol* See what he did with James McAvoy & Michael Fassbender.

    • M.A.F. says:

It’s not a bad PR move. When was this film announced? Earlier in the week? This article is just in response to that and not Hank III remarks.

    • JulK says:

I think its just PR, to help people know that he has a new project. I don’t think its about HankIII, but about promoting his new project and letting people know.

I doesn’t make sense to me if it’s in response to HankIII because I don’t think anyone in the UK is bothered about this. It’s on the American side where the “complaints” are coming (HankIII). If he were to respond, if would make better sense to take it out in an american publication not the DM.

    • Intro Outro says:

Ah well. It might have been better if Tommy ignored it altogether. However, I did not perceive any “talking down” there, he sounded pretty respectful to me, and it was interesting to find out all that extra info about the project and preparatory work. Plus his interview is creating the needed buzz. Sooo, why not? *shrugs*

    • jammypants says:

I didn’t react the same. It’s just an interview to me. If someone gets cast in a movie, I usually expect interviews about the process to attain the role to follow. And accordingly, we get an interview following the casting announcement.

    • pru says:

I’m on the fence as to whether this was a good PR move or not.
I don’t think it matters that the interview was done to a UK media outlet. It was done right after HIII made his comments so they are going to get back to him. And anyone who doesn’t know Tommy might think he is laying it on a bit thick. Plus, four months before shooting even begins? It seems so early to start PR for this film now.
But then, maybe the negative press needed to be addressed?
      I just don’t know….

      • joe spider says:

AS far as TH is concerned the enthusiasm comes with the territory; can’t see it changing unless he get more secure in himself and his career.

      • pru says:

I think Tom’s enthusiasm is just his personality. I’m not sure he could ever change (not that I would want him too!). And I’m not sure using him as the mouthpiece for addressing H3’s reservations at this point was the best PR move. I doubt super positive, over excited, verbose comments are going to win over old-school American HW fans, or H3 himself.
But at least the interview was in print because if those unconvinced had heard his real accent – oh lawd!!

      • Isadora says:

At least the interview shows that Tom is an actual (RADA trained) actor that takes his job seriously and not just some comic film superhero guy. It’s not really a reponse to Hank3 because he can hardly become an American overnight, but those who might have been on the fence about “Loki” playing such a complex role might be assuaged.

I don’t really think it’s bad PR. If he does 5 lenghty interviews about it in the next few weeks (before shooting even starts) then it would be bad. One comment in a UK paper however is quite okay, I think.

      • pru says:

        @Isadora – You’re probably right. I’m just leery of pre-film PR.

      • Intro Outro says:

I actually feel for Tommy and his enthusiastic self a lot lol. When I was in my twenties – very enthusiastic, easy-going and quick to laugh – I had a couple of cases when people who only knew me superficially were honestly surprised that I was working where I was and had the profession that I had because they had a very different concept of the type of people in my profession.

It’s a pity that people equate temperament with intellectual abilities.

      • Isadora says:

@Intro Outro: wonderful, now you have me totally guessing what your job is. A happy, extrovert disposition at odds with your job requiring intellectual abilites? Hm… pathologist!

      • Intro Outro says:

*hastily washes blood off her left ear and scrapes bits of brain tissue from under her nails* Umm, what were you saying, dear?

      • Isadora says:

        *ggg* 😀

  21. Gingerly says:

By the way I didn’t realize fans of musicians have such a great concern about actors’ ability to sininging/playing in biopics. I love music more than movie and would like to watch films on misicians I adore. But to me any actor’s musical perfomance in film is of little importance as I know all too well the real thing is out there. I have my cds and hifi systems to satisfy my ears. So in biopics on musicians I mostly focus on the story, characters, and social/cultural backgrounds. Even the resemblance in looks and mannerisms does not matter to me. Well, there may be some generous Hank jr’s fans like me.

    • icerose says:

I think for me it depends on how well ii know he artist and whether I have strong attachments to the music

      • Gingerly says:

That makes sense. Maybe it’s because being a classical music fan primarily I am used to just listening to music rather than watching and listening to musi ians’ performance live.

      • M.A.F. says:

I’m with icerose on this. If I’m familiar w/the artist/band & know how they performed then I do expect to see the actor(s) portray them properly on stage especially if there are tons of concert footage.

  22. T.C. says:

He’s an actor. You don’t need a Hillbilly to play one. Wait until the film is released to protest.Still I hate these kind of defense interviews where an actor has to show how much he cares about the subject, how he is already a big fan, knows all the fav songs blah, blah, blah.

    • icerose says:

Tom has very eclectic tastes in music and may well be a country fan for all we know. I am not a huge Hank fan but his songs are so well known through a myriad of covers that you have to respect his writing even if his performance style is not to your taste. Musicians often recognise the musical and song writing skills of other genres even if the origins are alien to them.I love Cajun music and country music along side rock, folk, classical and some jazz. It’s the musician ship and the writing that sway me not necessarily the genre. And Jambalaya (On the Bayou) is one of my all time favourite songs.

  23. Christin says:

Sounds like Rodney went to test him out from a musical standpoint a couple of months ago. It seems like this is going to be a well done production.

Hank was so young when he passed that his son Junior (who was three) has little if any memory of him, and his daughter was born days later. Therefore, I’m really not going to let Hank 3 color my opinion. After seeing what Sissy and Joaquin pulled off, anything is possible in the world of acting.

  24. icerose says:

The bit that impressed me was
” Abraham, who will also direct, saw Hiddleston in Coriolanus and knew he had his man, even though the RADA-trained British thespian may seem an unlikely fit for the farm boy from Mount Olive, Alabama. But Abraham said Tom has the rare ability to ‘transform himself’.”

I was impressed that Abraham had actually seen Coriolanus or new his other work so he must have done his research well which is good to know.

    • Gingerly says:

I was wondering whether Abraham watches Tom’s other works before or after Cor. Coriolanus might be a good character to impress the director because the Roman has a complicated felationship with his family and is full of angst and emotions. God bless ntlive which made the performance accessible to Abraham if he saw it in that way.

  25. joe spider says:

Not an interview but an article from the Guardian:

    http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/jun/13/tom-hiddleston-country-hank-williams-biopic

Given that it was Variety that first came out with the criticism, how do we know they didn’t go to hank for an interview rather than him jut mouthing off?

    • icerose says:

I love that guardian find a social spin even in a story focusing in a hillbilly singer
” The so-called “King of the Hillbillies” received a posthumous Pulitzer prize in 2010, awarded in recognition for his “pivotal role in transforming country music into a major musical and cultural force”.”

      • joe spider says:

Haha, yes that the Guardian for you. But at least the only say Westminster-born and not Eton-educated Hiddleston, which must be a first for them.

      • Gingerly says:

        @ joe spider

“But at least the only say Westminster-born and not Eton-educated Hiddleston, which must be a first for them.”

Funny ! THAT the be the most positive change that happens adfer Tom bravely choose the role, taking a great hazzard.

      • icerose says:

@joe spider My hand body and soul is clapping and singing in praise to the god of music for those omissions. May they forever be placed in the archives of journalism in favour of Tom the god OF mischief and hillbilly crooning.

      • joe spider says:

Well you have to admit they do like to get a dig in about any privately educated person don’t they. So I go back in put the occasional long spoon in to give things a stir!!

Yuk I hate spiders as much as you, don’t really know why I chose the name. 😕

        I moved very quickly!

I’m even worse with moths, which give me hysterics. At least spiders don’t fly at you!

  26. 'p'enny says:

I keep fantasising about Hiddles on stage with Dolly Parton this weekend at Glastonbury. I really like Dolly, i think she is a musical genius and a really fair person and if Tom wants to win over Nashville and Hank Williams family,, Dolly would be a great ally. So Tom if youre reading this, get your sexy bum, spurs and new spanking guitar that Abrahams gave you and get charming the Queen of Country and since girlfriend can get you in on corporate warners tickets……..gooooooooo.

    • joe spider says:

I lover her comment – “It takes a lot of money to look this cheap”

    • Roberta says:

Glastonbury is next week – its always the last weekend in June. Ill be there so if I see Tom and his trashy f-buddy Ill let you know.

      • 'p'enny says:

cool – break into the corporate area or maybe your already in there? either, we want photos. look for hiddles in wellies and alexander mcqueen. or that bleedin blue tshirt & black cardi grrr

  27. M.A.F. says:

Is there a conspiracy at work? That there must be a Cumberbatch thread & Hiddleston thread to prevent hijacking? I’m not complaining mind you. 😉

And I read this article last night. From the sounds of it this project has been brewing for a while and it seem his performance in Coriolanus helped in the decision. Good for him.

    • JulK says:

I think there is a conspiracy at work 😉 mind you it also accounts for the vast majority of posts on CB so why not expand the platform??

Kaiser- If it’s not too much trouble and when you have a chance a Fassbender Thread please?? It would make for the perfect Holy Trinity of British Hotties.

      • M.A.F. says:

        I second this motion.

      • Intro Outro says:

Personally, I would welcome a weekly Hot Brits thread where we could chatter away on all our fav boys 😉

      • icerose says:

@ yes to Hot Brits Friday .I have come round to Fassy after seeing his acting in 12 Years a Slave.

      • Anne tommy says:

He’s irish. County Kerry. No artistic imperialism please.

      • Isadora says:

He’s from the British Isles (Ireland is part of them), so you can probably shorten that to “Brit” too. 😉 Maybe we should start to call them the “Britlanders”? lol…

And because I’m too tired to form a coherent sentence of excitement: Fassy!!!

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Julk, well, I would love a trifecta of British hotties as well but my trio would be a bit different – Tom, Ewan, and James. Or maybe Idris.

      • Intro Outro says:

Maybe we’ll get a Fassy thread since he’s set to star in a new Formula 1 film Garagistas 😉

      • Isadora says:

Oh no… I mean good for him, but I hate Formula 1 🙁 The sound alone drives me crazy.

    • Lilacflowers says:

@M.A.F., it has happened the last few times there has been news on either, but the Hiddleston threads seem to get shut down. I was thrilled this one was still open when i got home tonight.

      • JulK says:

@lilacflowers – Me too. I can’t come to this forum as often as I would like and when I do, there are loads of post to catch up with… and then as I finish writing, shut down.

Maybe it’s because if they shut it down, it will inevitably bleed into BCs… Those two are so similar, I LOL when I saw the rumour of BC gf came out. It has a certain Tahitigate ring to it in the “half baked story”.

I am not in PR (very far from it..) but I would just get those two together to have a man-day and have the paps around. Nothing like a little bromance to get the fans obsessing for days. After all, they do share a fancore.

  28. Camil says:

I trust in Tom’s work. I’m from Mexico, I didn’t know nothing about Hank Williams until now. My interest is, obviously, Tom’s career. I want to see this movie just for him but I understand their doubts. We have an iconic comedian, Cantinflas, they made a biopic and the character was played by the spanish actor Óscar Jaenada. A lot of people disagreed with the casting:

“How can a spaniard play Cantinflas if we have Diego Luna and Gael García to do it? Besides, they are mexicans. Just a mexican could play our beloved Cantinflas!”

Well. I saw the trailer few days ago and Jaenada pulled it off (he sounds amazing “cantinfleando”)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-7Zg0l6NKk

So I hope the same for Tom 🙂 (sorry for my bad english LOL)

    • Intro Outro says:

Oh, I loved the trailer, thanks @Camil! I’ll try t watch it if I can lay my hands on it!

Mexicans and South Americans make for incredibly passionate fans 😉

    • JulK says:

He even looks like him… I am so looking fowards to this one.

    • icerose says:

@Camil great comment -it does not matter where you come from-it’s ultimately the acting that counts

    • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

My God, Cantinflas, I grew up watching it… I love it.. Even the voice sounds the same….. Oh I so wanna watch it!!!!!

  29. Koko says:

The Drifting Cowboys, 2 thumbs up for that name…

  30. G. says:

    Ugh.
I’m sorry, but he is unbearable. He reminds me of try-hard English majors in all the worst ways.
Not a fan. Last time I’m clicking one of his articles.

    • Camil says:

      Bye, bye xD,

    • 'p'enny says:

Those pounds in my piggy bank arr growing thats £3 in 24hrs getting ever closer to buyi.g f-type jag.

      • icerose says:

apparently I should be driving a Bugatti Veyron so I need to change the rate to £!0.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@icerose, what a fabulous car! Who will you hide in the boot?

      • icerose says:

@Lilacflowers Well many of my favourites are being stored in the Jag so I will go for lesser known actors who know Tom as it might encourage him to set out on a rescue mission now that he has gained some experience in art of escaping.

So it will be Harry LLoyd, David Dawson and John Heffernan with a little Samuel Barnett thrown in because he loves Shakespeare and so does Tom. Apart from Barnet they are all Hollow Crown alumni so they can spend there time in the boot putting Shakespeare’s words to music. The Bugatti Veyron boot has room for instruments and the music will give my journeys some added cache. Plus we know Tom loves to sing and dance to Shakespeare.

      • Lilacflowers says:

And Harry Lloyd is a Targaryen so you may attract a dragon or two. We can always use a dragon or two.

      • Isadora says:

Yes, I heard Benny likes them. 😛

  31. jammypants says:

    What a sweet, hardworking man.

  32. Kristin says:

I can’t help myself. I absolutely LOVE this guy. He may be a little high maintenance, but I could deal with it. He’s just too adorable for words:)

  33. pru says:

I didn’t know HW was called the “Hillbilly Shakespeare”. No wonder Tommy is attracted to his story! Now I can not only picture him reciting sonnets to ducks, teacups and anyone in earshot, but I’m also envisioning him crooning sad country tunes as well.
Somehow, I’ve never seen that second picture before and he looks SO adorable!!

  34. JoAnn says:

Rodney Crowell tweeted last night with a link to the Daily Mail article “This is an absolute pleasure”.

  35. Leah says:

Hank Williams III wrote a lengthy clarification of his remarks on his Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/hank3/posts/732417660159082?fref=nf

    • joe spider says:

Well, nice of him to partially undiss Tom but basically it comes down to – you put the money in you can choose the actor.

    • Altariel says:

He still doesn’t think Tom is right for the part, even if he isn’t criticizing him as an actor. MM has the fire and arrogance that I guess he doesn’t see in Tom. He also thinks the role should be played by someone who is actually from the South.

Poor Tom, he’s trying to do something for everyone to enjoy and stuff like this happens…but it happens a lot. I remember Anne Rice wasn’t thrilled with Tom Cruise playing her Lestat. Maybe, in the case of biopics, they should only be made long after all direct descendants have passed away? Just kidding of course, but how else to avoid upsetting family members other than give them casting rights?

      • icerose says:

Hank failed to say what he had actually seen Tom in which tends to void some of his arguments. I cannot see him watching Unrelated, Coriolanus or OLLA but as my knowledge of him is limited i could be completely wrong.

      • joe spider says:

But MM would probably cost more than the whole film’s budget

      • pru says:

I’m not sure releasing casting info way ahead of production is always the best move PR wise. Why take the chance of generating negative press before the film even starts filming?
As an actor, I think Tom will be great. But I can see H3’s point – the person playing your grandfather has to feel right. I imagine it’s emotional response.

      • mayamae says:

I think his bottom line isn’t that TH isn’t American. Sounds like Hank III wants only Southern Americans. I’m not really surprised. There is an arrogance and sense of superiority that stills exists in country music today.

    • 'p'enny says:

okay, the grandson is making good points, but he needs to pipe down now until he has seen/met Hiddles and the TTL Crew see what they are planning. I understand making comments like …” having the South in your soul,” etc. Yes, its an emotional bond to the place we all belong to and something we all feel when someone who is completely the opposite of what you are is going to pretend to be you/ or your family member.

If an upperclass Cambridge totty tried to play me, i will be all WTF? i think Maxine Peake is better.

but, at the end of the day, it’s a film of entertainment and not a documentary. So Hank, you’ve made your point and let it go and wait and see.

    • M.A.F. says:

LOL. He managed to insult every actor in the world with his #2 point alone. So only a person from NY can play a New Yorker? Only a person from North Dakota can a character that is based in North Dakota? Lord. Someone is acting like a baby because they weren’t chosen to play their family member.

@Altariel-the whole casting for Interview w/a Vampire was wrong. Banderas was playing a character who in the book was a 17 year old Russian. Rice also came out apologized for her remarks regarding Cruise.

      • Abby_J says:

Well, if he wants a true American to play the part, will they be checking out the Cherokee Reservation in North Carolina for a true American to play the role?

      • Altariel says:

Didn’t Anne Rice come to like TC as Lestat? He did well, but I still have a problem with it, lol. That was back in my “Brad Pitt is the hottest man to ever walk the Earth” days. He got dethroned when he started dating Gwyneth…who I found to be as insufferable back then as she is now.

Anyways, the point is people with whatever sort of ownership of characters get highly emotional and charged up that their person/character is being destroyed. HW 3 just needs to chill and enjoy. He and his fans just might like it.

But if this keeps up, I don’t know if our sweet Tom needs or deserves all this negativity. I really feel bad for him right now. It’s being reported in a lot of places.

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

        This^^^
That would definitely be a True American!! 😀

      • Abby_J says:

        @Altariel,

I don’t actually think there are that many people complaining really. I think we are just all focused on this one guy an the few followers that he has, but I’d bet that they are really a small percentage.

I imagine that anyone making this movie had to expect this kind of reaction. They probably prepared our sweet boy for it, and hopefully he isn’t stressing about it. If he is having a hard time, I will be glad to hold his hand and help him get through it. 🙂

      • Altariel says:

Ooh, can I help you with that, Abby? The poor baby…. lol

Actually reading the comments the main gist is they say HW3 should play the part, not anti-Tom, so that is a plus, I think! Then you hear “we southerners should stick together!” Well, gotta love ’em for their passion 😉

      • Abby_J says:

You are welcome to join us, Altariel. We have quite a bit of hand holding to do, what with our sweet Tommy, Jonny Lee Miller, Mark Strong, Colin Firth and now Jack Bauer to tend to. Feel free to bring someone as well, to share. 🙂

Did I forget anyone, Lilacflowers? We seem to gain someone new fairly often.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Abby_J, you forgot Sean Bean in the boot of the Jag and my super secret husband Chris. There are some others in the boot of the Bugatti and whoever is riding in the helicopter with ‘p’enny.

      • Altariel says:

Well I’d like to throw Ben Barnes in there! As much as I love Tom, he hasn’t managed to toss Ben out Jag. Sean Bean = sweet love. Chris Evans I thought was my secret bf! …I have to keep him secret so not to upset Tom!

      • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Ok.. Stephen Amell for me in my Jag. is that ok? A guy who can shoot arrows, can shoot anything… And he also jumps around the city with a mask and a hoodie…

oh, also want Colin O’Donoghue…. With whom I can sail away…
        *smiles naughtily….*
*He’s married but I’m not a jealous gal..*

      • Abby_J says:

        @sonalaceae (Nighty).

Wait….Is Stephen Amell joining our little group? I could totally get behind that. 🙂

      • Lilacflowers says:

Our little group seems to be getting larger and larger.

    • Camil says:

Read some comments, it’s very funny because they think Tom Cruise will play Hank LOL.

      http://weknowmemes.com/generator/uploads/generated/g1386188007618427597.jpg

      • Isadora says:

The comments… oh wow… some are so bad I’m doing double facepalms…

      • Altariel says:

        Eeeks…mine eyes…

Tom Cruise they say? Well, with half the name right they may be…..NO, no, that’s just dumb.

    • Abby_J says:

I don’t actually care if my dear Hiddles is playing the part or not, but the grandson’s fans have to be some of the most ignorant people ever. The comments on his few messages about this just kill me.

All the people saying he should play the part because he looks and sounds like him, that is great, but can the guy act? His music is crap.

      • Isadora says:

They also seem to think that casting is still open and Tom has only “applied” or something. But Tom was cast and the film is happening in 3 months. There is no “XY could also play the role”. This is not the 50 Shades casting game.

      • Abby_J says:

I am horrified by some of the comments. I am sure that the movie makers and Tom were prepared for this, but I just can’t believe the responses on this guys FB page.

I can’t even count the comments about how he should be consulted because only family can really tell SR’s story. Don’t they all realize that JR was like FOUR when his dad died, and Hank 3 never even met the guy. Besides, it appears that Hank 3 isn’t even part of the estate anymore.

I’d really love to know what JR thinks, but he seems that he is doing the smart thing, and waiting to see how it turns out.

      • Isadora says:

Yes, but “it’s in the blood” according to them. Just like you have the South in the blood. The place a lot of emphasis on body fluids. I also love how they are completely neglecting the acting factor – Hank3 should play Hank Sr. because he looks and sounds like him. No word of his acting ability. But then again, the people with the most awful comments don’t appear exactly bright. And I’ve learned some really colourful swearing lol.

      • Abby_J says:

Yes, they do seem to be obsessed with bodily fluids. Haha!

Obviously they are very passionate about Hank 3, and I think that is awesome for them. I mean, here we are defending our precious Tommy, but good grief! Half my family is from the deep south, and as much time as I’ve spent there, I’ve NEVER seen anyone that came across as a living caricature of a ‘hick’ as some of those folks.

      • icerose says:

The comment ” just give him a few acting lessons” pretty much summed it up for me

      • Intro Outro says:

@icerose: that’s actually a very telling comment indeed. Those fans perceive it as being first and foremost a *music* film – while we think of it as a character drama film.

      • Abby_J says:

I loved the comments about how he should just make his OWN Hank SR. movie and get Matthew M. to play him. Because, you know, it is so easy to get millions of dollars and a mega-star to be in your movie.

    • Gingerly says:

He sounds less grumpy and more detailed here and I am glad Hank 3 watched a few of Tom’s movie as most of Tom’s works are good.

While I don’t agree with heart of the Southern soul thoery in general – it’s acting after all so acting skills are more important or as much important as the “right” soul – , there are and will be many country music fan who respond to that matter very emotionally.

All biopics have to handle these kinds of reactions. But casting directors, directors, and producers have other concerns than those of family members. I am not sure all HW family members agree with Hank 3, and even if they do, there is a great possibility that producers are much more experienced and objective. Family members do have a right to express their opinion at the moment of casting announcement, especially when they know the hero/heroine very well as Hank 3 does. Actually I don’t care much as long as family or friends make their comments with reason and grace because their opinion is not very important to me when I watch biopics.

      • icerose says:

for all we know he just watched a few clips on you tube but yes his response is less peevish, I agree that it is not unusual for family members to comment but Hank never knew his father and we are talking three generations. I suspect that even the soul of country music has changed both from a family and fan perspective.
I do think family bios that only have a small amount of family feedback are more objective. Far better to go to many sources. The author of the book was English which is interesting in itself because he may have a wider perspective on his life,

    • sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

I’ve studied BrE at school, and I find it so funny (in a good way) the way Southern Americans speak and the syntax of the sentences… It’s so interesting… 🙂
Looking at the differences and analysing them… 🙂

    • Lilacflowers says:

@Leah, thanks for posting it. Reading it, I do have to ask if the man has some sort of learning disability because otherwise, as an American, I am rather embarrassed as how poorly written that is. He has to know that he is not the best writer. Couldn’t he have had somebody proofread it for him?

      • Isadora says:

If you look at the writing skills of some of the commenting people than that’s probably something they can relate to. Maybe they see it as some kind of down-to-earth charm? Reading the stuff of the more forceful Hank3 fans I’m sure there is no chance in hell that Shakespeare-quoting Eton-educated Hiddles will ever get their blessings.

Thankfully I’m positive that they are not the only potential audience for the film.

  36. Ellen says:

@’p’enny is my main source of Hiddles news not this bike tumblr blog thing whatever that is.

I wanted to see more new pics of Hiddles as HW.

    • JulK says:

I think we need an interview with him. A proper grown up interview by someone who is not fangirling over him. I liked the guy from the evening standard. He does not have to discuss his personal life, but there are personal questions that you can ask that are harmless and gives you a bit of insight on himself as a person.
Do you cook or do you rely on others for food?
Its May Ball season in Cambridge, did you attend as a student? How was it?
If you had the power to change 1 thing in the world, what would it be?
Why is your day to day wardrobe all blue, gray and black? Do you own anything red??
      Define happiness..
Define GF *get shut down by Luke*

      Silly stuff like that…

      • M.A.F. says:

Yep. I think the Evening Standard and maybe the Time Out interview was the closest we gotten to an actual grown up interview. No more women magazine interview. He need a proper one in either GQ or Rolling Stone (which that one should happen when the Williams movie comes out).

    • 'p'enny says:

      @ellen

      news update.

well i am sulking this morning after finding out about Dr strange going into production next spring. [a] cant see benny getting the role if he is doing those postponed films and it is likely to clash with hamlet, although i am in two minds whether i want him to get it. [b] most annoyingly of all it gets the second cinema date in 2016 in july after capt america.

[c] but most of all that means thor3 is defo off production till 2016 for release poss 2017 – seriously i’ll be well bored by thor by then. and it looks like as ‘rumoured’ on comic book goss sites that thor 3 will leaad into avengers 3 . And i will be well bored even more than thor of the avengers team by 2018. God! i will be too old for this. Hope CB has a long license for us guys. 😉

      • Ellen says:

Thanks @ ‘p’enny. Unfortunately thor 3 is looking more likely to a cast change. Chris and Hiddles won’t be able to pull it off as their characters are meant to be in their 20s

@ Julk he should be banned forever from giving intervies to Elle magazine. They fawn over him so much it’s Embarrasing. I wouldn’t mind if the interview was interesting but I they all sound like they’re written by a 13 year old fangirl on tumblr. It’s laughable that they think its because of them hiddles became interested in HW. Like people mention before, he was talking about the singer last year in interviews.

I would also challenge him not to bring up Shakspeare. If he succeds he get a cookie

      • JulK says:

        @ ‘P”enny. I am not surprised about Thor 3.
I did come across some comic book fans posting that Hulk was also in the pipeline and that it would be before Cap 3.
Apparently, Loki has appeared in the Hulk comics when Loki brings Hulk to Asgard and with the help of Enchantress separates Bruce Banner and Hulk, getting control of the latter. This according to wikipedia 😎
There may be hope to see him sooner…

      • 'p'enny says:

        @ellen

they will not recast Thor3 LMAO! Chris and Tom are the only thing going for that film series. Recast in ten years maybe, but it’s not exactly Batman.

      • M.A.F. says:

Interesting. A 2017 release for the third film is a little late in my opinion. 4 years later we get a third film? They should switch the release dates for the movies, Dr. Strange should be released in 2017 & Thor 3 in 2016. Or they should just add another 2016 release date. I thought Thor being released in November was a good move. But it has been reported time and time again that Thor is the weak link in the Marvel movies & that they simply don’t know what to do w/the character.

As far as cast changes, it won’t be due to age. If they change the cast it will be because both Hemsworth and Hiddleston are over it. And I think at this point it is safe to assume that Hemsworth is over it. Don’t know about Hiddleston. I can see the female cast being changed. Jamie Alexander could remain (if she isn’t Wonder Woman by then) but Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings I can see no longer being involved (their characters are useless as far I am concern).

      • Isadora says:

People might be over their Marvel characters but they are bound by contract so it’s not that easy to get away. 😉 I’m not sure about the contracts for the minor characters, but Christ & Tom are definitely coming back to their roles – and yes, what ‘p’enny said. Imagine they would recast them for Thor 3, the fans would be up in arms for real.

I like Kat Dennings in the movies, Darcy is funny, but generally yes, the Asgardian storyline is more interesting. But I think Jane will also be back because she is the reason Thor left Asgard & the throne at the end of Thor 2, so…

      • Lilacflowers says:

Feige has been talking about releasing a film a quarter so it may be likely that Marvel will release three films in 2016. Marvel has been using Thor as a test subject, it would seem. The first Thor was to see if people would go to see a comic book superhero movie set in outer space; people did. The second Thor was to see if people would go see a comic book superhero movie during the “serious award contender movie” season instead of the “summer blockbuster” season; people did. If Avengers III is targeted for spring 2017; they’ll want to get Thor III in before that and November 2016 would seem to be ideal. It is also possible that Loki could turn up in a One Shot or a cameo in one of the other films. I really wouldn’t be surprised to see something in Guardians of the Galaxy. And there is always Agents of SHIELD and the other TV series. Marvel keeps promising that there will be more crossover. Since Asgardians are rather ageless, Loki could even pop up in Agent Carter with Hayley Atwell.

@Isadora, during the Thor2 promos, Kat Dennings was asked several times what she would like to see Darcy do in future films and she repeatedly said she wanted Darcy to go to Asgard and hang out with Loki. They’re pretty much the only two characters in the series who have had no interaction.

      • 'p'enny says:

i’d like to see Loki lock Darcy up for good 😛

i thought about a November/December 2016 release, but isn’t Star Wars coming out then or is that 2015? but it will be clear of Hunger -Games and Hobbit stuff that will be finished now. It might work.

      • Isadora says:

Marvel might not be afraid to have a similar release date as other franchises – aren’t they going to release something at the same time as Batman vs. Superman? (Is that the name of the movie? lol… still no idea about all that comic film stuff)

      • Lilacflowers says:

There are lots of weekends between October and December, plus Thanksgiving, which is another big release day. They can simply schedule for another Friday in the same month as Star Wars. They’ve been threatening to release Capt America III on the same day as Batman v. Superman. That’s being perceived as a game of chicken between the two studios.

      • M.A.F. says:

The Hobbit is done this December. The Hunger Games will be done by the time 2016 rolls around. Star War VII is out December 2015. Who knows when Star Wars VIII will be released. A November 2016 released date would be best if The Avengers 3 comes out in Spring 2017.

      • Anne tommy says:

Darcy is very nearly the jar jar binks of the franchise

      • Lilacflowers says:

@AnneTommy, aaaaarrrrgggghhhhh! Now you’ve done it. I’ve had enough problems through three films not picturing JarJar every time they show Natalie Portman but now that you’ve actually said the name! Well, he’s cavorting in Asgard as we speak and fraying Loki’s last nerves.

  37. Maria of MD says:

Hank Williams’ second wife is a whole interesting story herself: she was viewed by some in the country music scene as something of a jinx. The men she took up with wound up not doing so well. At one point, she was trying to get with Waylon Jennings and he told her that not only did he want nothing to do with her, but why: her previous lovers’ bad fates.

  38. jammypants says:

It kind of blows my mind that a harmless actor like Tom Hiddleston can generate so much discussion haha

    • Janeite says:

He’s much more well-known on the internet than than he is in the real world! And he seems pretty harmless to me too but then again I’m not one of the anonymous fangirls who claims to have been done wrong by him! 😉

    • Gingerly says:

He seems harmless to me too even though some may find him cloying or annoying. But in this case it is cultural pride and political/nationaln/social identity problem that drives this level of heated discussion. And I am pretty sure both Tom and producers expected this opposition and prepared themselves for it.

That said, I would like to hear and participate in this discussion rather than 1,000 threads of mostly speculative arguments over a celebrity’s personal life.

      • Janeite says:

        Gingerly,
Yeah, I agree with you that Tom and the producers probably expected this. And I’m sure there will be more interviews and articles on the issue once the movie is ready to be released and PR begins in full swing.

    • icerose says:

Depends on the discussion and why. I think the Hank w casting raises so many interesting issues around music and culture it males for interesting reading,
The tumblir stuff is just tumblir and one person egging them on.some people just like tp believe its true, or like the attention and feeling part of a gang.

@LadyMacbeth: Nah, Aldeburgh Beach ArtHouse is in Britain 😛

      • Lilacflowers says:

Didn’t his mother’ family have something to do with the Aldeburgh Music Festival, which is happening now?

      • Isadora says:

@Lilacflowers: Yes, I guess he’s visiting family. Good for him! The next few months will be intense…

(Oh please… can we tell a certain blog that he went home to get his family’s blessing for an upcoming marriage or something? And that his mother is very taken with J. since they both work in the music business? Ah… the possibilities…)

      • Lilacflowers says:

And there are twins coming. One of each, to be named Scarlet and Kenneth.

And I suspect that the scruffiness is part of growing out the beard for the ends scenes of High Rise as well since the character gives up shaving, other forms of grooming, and hygiene, in addition to starving and taking morphine.

      • Janeite says:

        Lilacflowers-
You nanny, you! You’re just in denial about the REAL reason why he looks thinner. 😉 LOL, I think we’re all supposed to be nannies here, aren’t we?? And it MUST be true since it comes from a reliable source! A veritable oracle of veracity!

      • joe spider says:

Has anyone else noticed that everyone who we KNOW has met or knows him says he is a really nice guy – Jim B/ Brigit Sorensen/David Morrissey/……………………….? Jim Jarmusch said all the actors on OLLA on top of everything else were really nice people.

But the ones who say otherwise are a friend of a friend/someone I know who worked……

Does that make me a nanny too?

      • DahliaDee says:

I hate myself for using this phrase, but ^^This, so much!

      • joe spider says:

Not as taken as with Jessica Chastain who was supposed to have visited her the Christmas before last. And we all know how true that was.

      • joe spider says:

His grandfather used to run the Music Festival when Benjamin Brittain was in residence. There is ample evidence of this. Which I would guess is why his mum went back to live there after the family were grown up – to be nearer family. She is involved with the arts scene at Aldeburgh I believe.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I’m wondering if he’ll take part in the piano event they are doing this weekend – to play the same piece 800 times. He supposedly plays the piano extremely well.

  40. Janeite says:

LOL, Camil. I think Paul died a couple of years ago. I keep up with cephalopod-related news. Hey, maybe Hiddles can play Paul next and octopuses everywhere will be up in arms, arms, arms. (and yes fellow CB’ers, that plural is correct)

  41. Intro Outro says:

Oh goodness, Torilla posted gifs from Travelling at Night. http://torrilla.tumblr.com/post/89442229440#notes I wonder if those are from the French version, IIRC its release date is June 15 in France? Or maybe Dutch version…

    • Isadora says:

Amazon France releases the DVD in 4 days – so I’d say it’s not the French version. Considering the slightly fuzzy quality, the fact that the movie itself has been floating around for months and that Torrilla is from Asia it’s hard to say if it is any “version”. 😉

      • Intro Outro says:

Mmm, I am pretty sure that it was already officially released *somewhere*. And also, judging by the 1080p and 740p downloads on Pirate Bay which all have French and Dutch subs, that’s most probably French version. Sometimes internet shops ship pre-ordered DVDs and CDs several days earlier 😉 I was lucky several times to have received some CDs 2-3 days before the official release date like that.

But yeah, maybe there’s also some kind of additional Asian release that we simply don’t know about.

      • Ashdown says:

@Isadora, It’s the out-takes from the French version blue ray, already online for download in China. So enticing, must not infringe on IPR… Ugh…

      • Intro Outro says:

I have to say that I am glad Jarmusch didn’t include the super-duper-cliched-sun-burn scene into the final cut 😉 It makes for an excellent extra scene though.

I’m looking at you, Marvel. Go take lessons from Jim on which scenes should make the final cut and which ones are better left for DVD extras. *grumble grumble*

      • Isadora says:

Ok, I found the source now. It’s a leaked version and all over tumblr already. Sadly. Exasperatingly. Because honestly it’s an indie movie with a tight budget and the international box office revenue didn’t even cover the production cost (probably also thanks to the butchered US release). Putting a 50 min. (!) “making of” documentary as extra on the DVD/Blu-ray, plus deleted scenes, is incredibly awesome. On so many DVDs you get nothing but the film and maybe a trailer. I hoped that this wonderful special feature will sell the DVD like hotcakes, but this piracy stuff is very bothersome esp. as it’s a small movie struggling to make some profit and not exactly The Avengers. No wonder the film industry is in deep sh*t and small independent movies have an incredibly hard time to find financing at all.

        *rant over*

      • Isadora says:

All our comments came at the same time. 😉

@Intro Outro: I TOTALLY agree regarding the sun burn scene! That was actually my first thought. It’s a funny scene but it somehow doesn’t fit the atmosphere of the film, so I’m glad it was taken out.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Isadora and Intro Outro, the Adam character shows more animation and energy in that deleted scene than in all other scenes in the movie combined so it was a good idea to delete it.

      • Intro Outro says:

I confess I went and DLed it – not feeling all too bad about it since I’m gonna have my DVD anyway. The extra materials are quite delicious. There’s Travelling at Night with JJ, then 25 mins of deleted scenes and also Yasmine Hamdan’s extended Hal. Some of the deleted scenes are awesome, the full sun burn scene is actually very good, too, especially towards the end. Travelling at Night is definitely for cinephiles, lots of discussions of how to shot this or that scene; neither JJ, nor actors or crew members are giving any interviews, it’s basically just 1 hour of watching them filming. I loved hearing JJ and T&T discussing how better to shoot a scenes, which lines to use, how to move and so on.

There, no spoilers and I hope this will be a shortish kind of ad for the DVD 😉

      • Isadora says:

I won’t since I’ll get my DVD in a week anyway. But yes, I was just talking about the people who download instead of buying of course. 😉

And it really was an ad, watching people filming is my absolute favourite stuff – better than interviews. Don’t get me wrong, I love interviews but watching the shoot is just… somehow the “real deal”. Lots of anticipation here!

      • Intro Outro says:

@Isadora, oh I understood what you meant in your “rant” and I agree! And yup, it was a very interesting watch, there was even a bit of Hiddles frustrated because he couldn’t get a scene right – priceless 😛 Also you’ll get to see that he really can’t keep still when he’s waiting or listening, he’s got to be touching his lips, moving his feet, anything! I think this docu’s added value is that he wasn’t posing, obviously, and you see that he’s simultaneously similar to his persona in how attentive and polite he is – and different in how he comes off as a much quieter person imo.

      • Isadora says:

Oh, it sounds so so lovely! 🙂 Is the Yasmine Hamdan scene also in “Travelling at Night”? I think I’ve developed a girlcrush. Love her music, I need to get a CD. And she is so beautiful! *swoon*

    • Camil says:

OMG I loved the wedding photos!

      • Marie says:

@ Intro Outro: Which DL versions have the deleted scenes and making-of doc? I’m finding it tough to tell what the file comes with, along with the movie of course. (Not gonna feel bad either–I fully plan on buying the dvd when it comes out, but…..I need this documentary immediately. Behind the scenes stuff is fascinating!)

      • Intro Outro says:

@Marie and Isadora: I DLed the 16.98 GiB version from Pirate Bay. Bonus materials include:

        1. Extra scenes – 26 mins
        2. Yasmine Hamdan’s Hal – 4.5 mins
        3. Travelling at Night – 50 mins

      • Lilacflowers says:

The blu-ray and dvd are now available for pre-order on Amazon.

      • Anne tommy says:

I love the chess playing scene in OLLA, with the blood Popsicles. The timing of both actors is fabulous- ” it was all the bloody talking”

      • Lilacflowers says:

The chess scene with the popsicles was fabulous.

      • icerose says:

Finally found a download. I had it on order order anyway. Loved the film mainly because it focused on production issues but also because it showed you just how much sitting and standing around the actors have to do.
Poor Tom frustrated by having a new rewrite and the scene re structured around him. Tilda murmuring words of sympathy for Tom in the background. And Tm having his instrument retuned until it gets the chord sound he worked on earlier was a nice touch. But it’s great the film shows some of the frustration for actors and directors and not just the bloopers. Some lovely moments between the actors and director which highlights the team work.It does seem they cut out quite a few bits of the more wordy dialogue even if Tom an Tilda do quote with passion.

      • icerose says:

Yes to the extended chess scene but the dance scene is what really makes the film for me. I love dance scenes in films where they just get it spot on.There was a great dance scene in the Deep Blue Sea as well.

      • Isadora says:

Ok, I caved it and watched it (I’ll get it next week anyway, but I can’t wait that long *lol*).

icerose, exactly my sentiments – love the film because it shows just how much work (and especially teamwork) a film is. The finished product always looks so easy, but every single scene is so carefully orchestrated and has to stay the same every take or change exactly as the director envisions it – to be spot on every single take no matter how often you shoot this particular scene, that’s .. wow.. I don’t think I could do it.

(I probably would have run off and chased the cats to feed and cuddle them lol.)

      • Isadora says:

        *caved in… damn typo..

    • neverland says:

I’m really looking forward to watching this stuff, but as always disappointed at the dearth of extras on ‘normal’ dvds. I don’t own a bluray and mostly watch on my laptop so there’s no point paying extra for it… but dvds have barely any extra material on them now (looking specifically at you, Thor: The Dark World!)

      • Isadora says:

It seems that this times the extras on DVD and Blu-ray are the same. But I’m not sure because in the announcement for the DVD/Blu-ray the same extras were listed however amazon France doesn’t list the deleted scenes on their DVD description only on the Blu-ray one (but both contain “Travelling at Night”). I’m not sure how reliable this info is as amazon elsewhere (like UK or Germany) doesn’t list any info regarding the extras.

      • neverland says:

@isadora, okay, thanks! I know I can just watch online (or suck it up and buy the bluray lol) but I’ve become stubborn, ha.

      • Anne tommy says:

I’m sorry, I just had a snigger about the reference to Tom having his instrument retuned and will give myself a good scolding for being so juvenile at my age…

  42. ava says:

Has anyone seen Hank III post on his Facebook? It is an interesting read. He says he thinks Tom is a good actor and did not have anything again him as an actor. He said TMZ simply asked him who he thought should play his grand daddy. I figured they blew it up into more than it was….here are a few quotes from Hank, “I never put down Tom as an actor I was asked a question on who I thought would do the role justice” and “Tom is a great actor but what he brings to the table is just different then what Matthew could deliver in my eyes..”All that money is for Hank Jr and Jett Williams. It would be nice to see a well made movie on him since the last one was hacked apart by Audrey pretty much.”

  43. Ellen says:

Has anyone got a link to the video of the new screen caps that Torrilla posted on OLLA ?

    • Isadora says:

It’s from the 50 min. making of documentary “Travelling at Night with Jim Jarmusch” and the deleted scenes – both are extras from the DVD/Blu-ray.

    • Gabbi says:

This is fantastic, I have a huge smile on my face 😀

    • Camil says:

Thanks! I needed it because I’m a vampire tired of my immortality. I’m the vampire Lestat! *0*

Great photos, he looks adorable in each one 😀

      • joe spider says:

You are welcome – it made me laugh too, just like the cook monster video which I can never watch without grinning.

      • Intro Outro says:

Cookie Monster and delayed gratification are ABSOLUTELY. PRICELESS. Tom is sooooo daaaaarn sweeeeet I want to hug him and never let go. Scary! 😀

  44. Portia says:

I’m not surprised Tom did this interview. He strikes me as someone who will always voice his opinion about how strongly he believes in his projects and this response to Hank III’s comments is no different. And I think a producer or director would prefer someone like Tom who’s vocal about his involvement in the film than someone who plays the too cool to respond because he is an acTOR and lets his art speak for itself.

There’s nothing wrong with letting your work speak for itself. But there’s nothing wrong with pushing back either when someone publicly tries to generate negativity about your talent or the projects you’re involved in.

    • Intro Outro says:

It’s a complex question. Being a public figure, I think he always has to be careful about what he says. Think about the reaction his words might provoke. That said, imo we overanalise some things and attribute a lot of subtext where perhaps there is none lol.

    • joe spider says:

Actually if you read Hank’s facebook response it seems that he wasn’t asked the question “what do you think of Hiddleston being cast as your grandfather” so much as “who do you think should be cast as your grandfather” possibly before he know about Hiddleston’s casting.

If that is the case then it puts a whole new complexion on his response and shows that, surprise, surprise a publication lied basically.

    • Isadora says:

Thanks! Looking good! Hello, black-and-red Top Gear sweater. 😉

      • joe spider says:

Forgotten that! According to the blog we won’t mention the name of he looks bad and the sparkle has gone. He looks fine to me, 🙂

      • Intro Outro says:

@joe spider: Yup yup, I’m searching hard for the traces of coke bloat!

      • Lilacflowers says:

And the blue dress shirt is back too, although the collar seems to need some pressing. The gray pants are different though.

      • jammypants says:

        @InnieOutie, oh you 😉

    • Intro Outro says:

*sighs* I am no professional photographer, but I just can’t with how many people don’t know even the basic rules of taking pics. If you’re taking a rather close pic of a person, try to keep his/her face closer to the middle because proportions/perspective tend to get distorted closer to edges and as a result we get photos with weirdly elongated or stretched faces. And not everyone remembers/has the necessary app to do a perspective correction lol. As a variant, if you absolutely HAVE to keep a face close to the edge of a pic, then you can sit down or bend slightly while the person is standing and take your pic from this position – it’ll balance the perspective a bit.

HOWEVER, sweet to see our Tommy, looking very nice (if elongated and thin lol).

      • joe spider says:

But he is always elongated, and nearly always thin. 😉

      • Intro Outro says:

I volunteer to be his photographer then 😛 I bet this is happening because he’s too damn tall and hard to fit into a photo lol. Seriously thought, even if you compare this egg Tom with the #voteMalcolm Tom, the elongated face becomes even more blatant. Poor guy!

      • jammypants says:

very long and leggy (I don’t care about Handler but using this pic for scale):

        https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bq0koQ9CcAE6Db0.jpg

      • Lilacflowers says:

I suspect he’s trying to get thinner for High Rise. They are probably planning to film the end scenes first and then the actors can relax and eat normally as they film the early scenes.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@jammypants, and she’s wearing heels. That interview was quite the shining example of unprofessionalism encountering class.

      • Ava says:

I am a photographer and yes the angle a subject is taken at distorts perspective. He looks well, I think sweet in the photo….cutie…..I only have a few angles I look good at and underneath is not one of them. I also have not gone to “the site which shall not be named” I felt yucky after going there just once.
@ Janeite thanks for clearing things up. I felt better after reading your comments. Those of a rational person. Thanks.

      • Janeite says:

        Ava,
You’re welcome. Anytime! If you or anyone else has any questions about that blog or anything on it, let me know. I will do what I can to set things straight. Especially since no one over there has any interest in knowing what the actual truth is.

      • jammypants says:

@Lilac, it was a very cringeworthy interview. Had to brave it for Hiddly.

      • neverland says:

@janeite, at the risk of sounding like a nanny fan, I do think it’s starting to get out of hand. Most of the ‘dish’ only reflects on tom as ‘oh that’s a shame’, but the allegations of emotional abuse are really unsavory. That’s the one thing which I think is potentially damaging if it spreads further around. The threats to ‘reveal’ this woman who tom wants to protect seem weird as well – personally I already know who the woman is from another blow up between them and miss thing, but I was wondering if you could shed some light on that? Was she involved in the joke or has she been retrospectively pulled into it? And is she trashing miss thing for legitimate reasons or because she doesn’t want to be outed re: playing a mean joke on someone?

tbh there’s so much ‘this is the truth/no this is the truth’ without evidence that I feel someone needs to step forward and be straight about everything. Yeah, it seems like just a bit of fandom drama but I for one don’t find it at all funny any more.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@jammypants, definitely cringeworthy and unprofessional and, after she offered herself to him at the end, hilarious when he calmly and quite firmly shook his head and said: “no.”

@neverland, they’ve gone totally off the deep end with nonsense, much of which is extremely defamatory but it has crashed into a flame war today.

    • Lilacflowers says:

No sign of white powder either. But then again, beaches in England usually don’t see much sleet in June.
