Katherine Heigl had her mom complain when her name was wrong on dressing room

The ASPCA Celebrates its commitment to save animals
This story was in the last Enquirer’s Gossip section. The Enquirer sported a makeover starting with their latest issue. While our friend Stacie didn’t like it, I think it’s a nice change from the older Enquirer layout, and that it’s cleaner and easier to read. Anyway Mike Walker’s gossip section is much improved. He had this believable tidbit about Katherine Heigl flipping out because some lackey spelled her name wrong on her dressing room for her new NBC show, State of Affairs. Instead of handling the situation on her own, Katherine called her mom, natch, who read someone the riot act and eventually got the person responsible fired. To be fair, this story doesn’t directly state that Katherine’s mom demanded the person get canned, but it’s implied.

“It’s Katherine with a K!” bellowed… Katherine Heigl, who walked onto the set of her new NBC spy series “State of Affairs” and discovered a major misspelling of her name on the dressing room door – “Catherine” with a C instead of a K, and worse, “Heigl” with an “e” added at the end! “That is NOT my name!” shouted Katherine with a “K” – who’s kranky even on good days. “I’m the star and they can’t even get my name right? Are you f*ing kidding me?!” Said my on-set source. “In a rage, Katherine phoned momager Nancy and demanded she find out the culprit and get her name corrected immediately. It turned out the mistake was made by a new assistant director – who’s now looking for a new job!”

[From The National Enquirer, Mike Walker’s column]

It’s unacceptable to have the star’s name spelled wrong on their dressing room, and it is incredibly incompetent. How can someone make such a basic mistake? Still, all Katherine needed to do was point out the error and it would have been taken care of. Throwing a fit and demanding to know who did it is unnecessary and unprofessional.

Katherine’s mom is her manager, so it makes some sense that she called her. We’ve heard from many well established outlets that Katherine’s attitude, and her pushy mom, have been costing her jobs and may be why her romcom career is over. A couple of months ago, Star Magazine claimed that Katherine was ready to fire her mom but that obviously hasn’t happened yet.

Switching gears to a nicer story about Katherine, People had a profile this week of her animal charity, The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, named after her late brother. Katherine’s charity helps find homes for dogs, provides funds to move dogs to no-kill shelters, and helps families pay to spay and neuter their pets. Katherine has 8 dogs, 11 horses, 2 donkeys and 10 chickens at home with her husband Josh and their two daughters, Naleigh, 5, and Adelaide, 2. Included with her 8 dogs is a pup named Billie Bean, whom she rescued from Sochi. Cute!

  2. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I completely and totally believe this–nothing that Katherine (and her mom) has done, or the way she’s (they’ve) presented herself (themselves) to the public, and behind doors can even make me come up with even a token….’but I’ve never heard of any diva antics, she’s such a nice person’…

    That’s kind of sad.

I mean, I would feel a lot worse for Katherine if she was someone who was very easily pushed around by her mom–so that it would be that her mom was the jerk, and Katherine went along with it because she’s used to it–but Katherine’s the exact same way.

The only thing I even find remotely likeable about her is that she’s adopted two kids. Other than that? Forget it. And she has horrible taste in films–I tried to watch ‘One For The Money’….I swear to God, I felt like I had sat there ALL DAY. It was an awful movie, and the only thing that was remotely funny about it was Debbie Reynolds when she shot that turkey.

    • doofus says:

VC, regarding TERRIBLE movie, have you read the books from which that movie came?

They’re SO F-ING FUNNY. Most fans of the books hated her casting in the movie and thought the movie was lame.

but the author (Janet Evanovich) just released number 21 in the series and she’s hilarious.

      • Kali says:

Ditto what doofus said. The Stephanie Plum series was one of the first series I really got into as a teenager. Unfortunately now it’s never ever going to be made into the hilarious women-driven movie franchise it could’ve been.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I actually have read a few of the books–and I did love them. They were in my school library……too bad the movie didn’t measure up.

        I think LAK said that it should’ve been a tv show–it should’ve.

      • Kali says:

D@mn, a tv series would’ve been awesome. I would’ve paid cold hard cash money to get a Stephanie Plum series on my screen.

      • doofus says:

I always though along the lines of an HBO series so they could include the bad language, sex and violence in the books. each book could have been one season.

      • LAK says:

VC/Kali – i still hold to that. If BUFFY can be rescued from movie hell, so can this.

BTW: there is a TV movie of this series. made back in 2002. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0777262/
so bad and impossible to find anywhere, but details are online though. Has Lynn Collins playing Stephanie Plum and Tyler Christopher playing Joe Morelli

      • Amberica says:

Katherine was the wrong choice. The novels are funny but formulaic. They would’ve made a better TV series than movie franchise.

    • L says:

Exactly. She needs to get her hustle game together. I’ve been watching old episodes of Grey’s, and she’s not a bad actress. But you can see the moment in season 3 where she started getting cocky and full of herself.

I mean, this image is the image I have of Heigl now. Public temper tantrums and unprofessional behavior.

      • Sullivan says:

@L: Good Gawd, that photo is priceless.

      • Frida_K says:

Oh my God, what on earth is going on in that photograph? Is she really having a public tantrum, real one, not just some sort of put-on joke or something?

        Wow.

      • L says:

Frida-not sure, but apparently it was while she was at lunch with her mom and husband.

      • ozmom says:

Maybe she had some dental work she was showing off. Why read so much into everything?

    • Holly Hobby says:

You know, we always hear about her mother, dead brother and sister but I could have sworn there were three brothers in the family. Where are the two surviving brothers and the dad?

I’m not surprised about this tidbit and I believe it too. She talked a good talk about changing but that’s just talk.

  3. Lindy79 says:

She sounds like an ass but I can’t fault her charity work.

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I wonder how much money she’s going to donate from that ridiculous lawsuit.

      • Lindy79 says:

        Which lawsuit?

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

She’s suing a department store for tweeting that she liked the store–basically they took a paparazzi photo of her leaving their store with some bags w/their logo on it, and said something like ‘Even Katie Heigl shops @ xyz’…she said they were using her image as an endorsement, and was suing for 6 million.

      • Ag says:

she’s apparently suing walgreens or duane reade for using her pic w/o her permission to advertise that she shops there.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

        @Ag
Yep, it was Duane Reade….and they bought a paparazzi photo of her with their bags in her hands…..I don’t see how she had a leg to stand on..

  4. NewWester says:

Can’t Katherine and her mother see how their attitude is causing problems? If you want respect and have people do what you want, a person should show others respect as well. It does not matter if it is the President or the person that cleans your hotel room. Acting like a jacka** and getting someone fired is not helping your reputation

  5. SolitaryAngel says:

I really don’t understand how this nasty piece of work keeps getting jobs.

  6. It is what it is says:

A bitch who rescues bitches for charity…!

Ok sorry guys that was a stretch, but I thought there was something there

  7. IL says:

Catherine Heigle has THE WORST personal style. She dresses like she’s 65.

    • L says:

That’s what happens when your only friend is your mom.

    • Holly Hobby says:

And she used to look so fresh and young in the beginning of Grey’s. Yup I re watched season 1&2 and she used to look so angelic for lack of a better word. Also, she did not deserve an Emmy. She over acted in the Denny cut the LVAd scene. Sandra Oh is the superior actress.

  8. eliza says:

While I know she has a reputation for being difficult and nasty, I also feel that the reputation also allows stories to be embellished a bit as well.

I never fault anyone who helps animals. Good for her and her charity.

    • kri says:

The only thing I can appreciate about her is her charity work with animals. Even if this story isn’t true, it’s very well known that she and her mother are major a$$holes in H’wood.

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, to me the story sounds like something completely fabricated based on her reputation rather than an actual occurrence. Who knows.

    • Jesse4 says:

Eliza, I agree with you. I totally think she is nasty and bites the hand that feeds her, etc. but I think mags like the enquirer, star, etc. will now always print a false story about her to get press. I mean she has to know this show is her second chance and she shouldn’t blow it.

    • LAK says:

some people are kinder to animals than to humans.

      • Bridget says:

Didn’t the ‘Queen of Mean’ Helmsley leave all her money to her dog?

      • LAK says:

Bridhet, if i remember correctly, she did!!

      • Holly Hobby says:

That’s so true. Martha Stewart is kind to animals and we know how she is. Someone I know openly admitted she got a job working for animals because she relates to them more than to people.

  9. LDUB says:

    LMFAO. thats all I got.

  10. Kali says:

I’m always going to come down on the side of the crew member in this situation. Yes, it was lazy and could be remedied by a simple google search. But A.D’s can be running around SO MUCH on sets and if you’ve already been doing several weeks of 12-16 hr days (I don’t know what union rules are like in America but tv/film crew here work their butts off), I can understand how something like this would happen.

If she wanted to prove that she had a sense of humour (and had learnt her lesson from Grey’s Anatomy about being reportedly hard to work with), she would’ve written her name, correctly spelt, on a piece of paper and put a smiley face on it. Makes the same point, the A.D could’ve gotten it fixed and would’ve learnt a lesson about being more careful with the small details and everyone would’ve been happy. Sets/crew so often take the mood of the lead actor/actress so if this is your big chance to get back up the career ladder, I can’t understand why you wouldn’t be consistently happy and friendly and easy to get along with.

    • Erinn says:

I can understand why it would happen, but it SHOULDN’T happen.
If I miss-spell something wrong on a clients site at work, you better believe I’ll hear about it. They don’t care if I’m doing overtime, and planning a wedding, and having a bad day. They just know that a mistake was made, and they’re annoyed.

Now, it’s not right to blow up over a miss-spelling, but I’d want it addressed as well.

      • Kali says:

Oh absolutely. IF it happened, it was an idiotic mistake and pretty much film/tv crew 101 in “stupid s!@# that you don’t do”. However, I’m guessing/assuming that you’re in a job where you’re working with documentation that’s going out/coming in or in some kind of design field? If that is correct (again, just guessing here), the whole point is obviously to convey any/all information correctly. Ergo, spelling would be super important because otherwise the job’s not done.

I would argue that, while totally unprofessional, a misspelled sign shouldn’t get someone fired (again, if this story is true….). Maybe if the sign was in shot?

But again, take the scuttlebut story with a grain of salt… πŸ˜‰

  11. Fab says:

Why does she still…why are we even talking about this?

  12. Hautie says:

I must be the only one who suspects, that the misspelled name on her dressing room door… was done intentionally. Just to watch her act like an assh*le. And everyone got what they wanted. Miss Heigl coming unglued over something stupid.

Which now NBC knows she is going to be a living nightmare to deal with. Until they cancel the show.

  13. Christin says:

I watched a few years old movie with her in it and wondered if she had been able to line up anything now. She really did have a perfect opportunity to have a decent acting career.

If she and her mother really are difficult, then good luck getting and keeping work projects. There are plenty of fresh faces that would love to have the type if opportunity this tag team supposedly squandered.

Her charity sounds like a good thing, as long as a high percentage of fundraising actually ends up going towards the animals and not the people running it.

  14. Lucky Charm says:

I think Catherine should be spelled with a “C” anyway, it looks much nicer than with a “K”, ha! πŸ™‚ Or maybe I’m just biased because that’s how I spell my daughter’s name. πŸ™‚

  15. The Original Mia says:

I saw a BTS pic of VM, the movie. Jason Dohring’s name was misspelled. I’ve heard nothing of him having a diva-fit about it and calling for heads to roll. It’s a common mistake. She’s just pissed people have forgotten her.

  16. Shelby says:

    This woman is so unlikable

  17. RobN says:

I love her husband, so I’m going to pretend all these stories are made up to make her look bad.

  18. here's Wilson says:

my mom’s corgi is called billie beans too… how odd

  19. Pumpkin Pie says:

Imagine being an actress claiming talent and recognition and somebody in the business doesn’t spell your name correctly, ha.

  20. Izzy says:

I don’t care how amateur it is to misspell the main castmember’s name on the door, Heigl’s reaction was ridiculous, and she obviously gets her temperament from her asshat mother. There is no excuse for this behavior, and NBC should be embarrassed for even trying to work with this diva on steroids. This is one show I will not be watching, simply because I find the star so completely unlikeable.

  21. shannon says:

Errrr. I was about to comment getting on her case for being a diva but that IS a really dumb mistake. Did this person not have access to Google? I remember lighting into my son’s speech teacher when she kept sending paperwork home for him with his name listed as “Daniel (last name).” His middle name is Daniel, but he never goes by that name. I was like, “OMG how are you teaching him and not knowing his name? Nobody ever calls him Daniel except, I guess, you?” Yeah, so I guess I have some of the Heigl in me LOL. Still, I said it to her directly, I didn’t try to get her fired over it or anything. They could have given the kid (or, I assume kid) a break.

  22. wow says:

She had so much potential. Now her best is behind her.

  23. Random Person #1580 says:

It’s great she does so much for animal charities. It’s a shame she does so little for treating other humans with minimal respect. No wonder the only person who hasn’t grown tired of working with her is her mom.

  24. lunchcoma says:

That’s a ridiculous mistake on the crew member’s part, but it’s a really bad move on Katherine’s as well. She’s going to be working with these people until her show gets cancelled (so probably not that long, but she’d presumably like it to be for a few years). Talk about getting off on the wrong foot.

  25. Stef Leppard says:

    8 dogs!!!

  26. Marianne says:

Not that i would ever condone diva behaviour, but Katherine with a K could have gotten away with this back in like 2007. Nobody cares about you anymore Katherine with a K.

  27. K-Rock says:

    Good lord that picture o_0

  28. the original bellaluna says:

    Do. Not. Want.

It amazes me that she has such compassion for animals and yet not a drop for her fellow workers or human beings.
