Prince William & Kate to ‘vacation’ in August, set up Anmer Hall (full-time?)

wenn21586459

Do you realize that Duchess Kate and Prince William haven’t gone “on vacation” in months? It’s true. While I don’t doubt that they’ve had little weekend mini-breaks to various country estates around England, they haven’t gone to another country on vacation since their big, epic Australia and New Zealand tour (where they built-in vacation days at resorts in both countries). Granted, just because they haven’t left the UK in a while doesn’t mean they’ve been working their fingers to the bone – we’ve gone weeks without seeing Kate at any official functions, and we should remember that William is still in the midst of his second “gap year.” Anyway, Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair says that Will & Kate are taking a “well-deserved” vacation for the month of August:

They have spent the last two days supporting Great Britain at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, but William and Kate can look forward to a well-deserved month off in August.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have cleared their diaries and will be holidaying in the U.K., Royal Watch can reveal. William and Kate usually jet off to the private island of Mustique, but they are planning to stay a little closer to home this summer. Sources say they will be taking Prince George to Scotland next month to Charles and Camilla, at their Highland home, and they will also take Prince George to see the Queen and Prince Philip at Balmoral.

According to my sources, the couple will spend the rest of the time off in Norfolk, where the final refurbishments are being completed at their new country home, Anmer Hall, on the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. Kate has been hands-on with the renovations and has helped with the redesign and interiors, and is apparently keen to make sure the final touches go exactly as planned.

“They will be at Anmer for much of the time they have off,” a source revealed to Royal Watch. “They cannot wait to move in and they want to make sure the last stages of the refurb go to plan.

The 10-bedroom house has its own tennis court and swimming pool—perfect for little Prince George, who has recently been enjoying swimming lessons at the pool at Buckingham Palace.

The Cambridges are heading to Belgium with Prince Harry for World War I commemorations next Monday, but after that their holiday begins and they can relax until September.

[From Vanity Fair]

There’s a lot of subtext in here, but first I’d like to point out that Will and Kate usually do NOT go to Mustique in August. Mustique is where they usually go in the winter, usually in January or February. August is for other beachy adventures, or for Scotland or whatever. As for their plans to hang out in Norfolk after they’ve spent time with Charles and the Queen… I think the subtext is that Kate and Will want to get everything at Anmer Hall set up because they’re going to be moving there permanently in September so William can avoid royal work, I mean work as an air ambulance pilot. So much for the millions spent on redoing Kensington Palace. They’re barely going to be in London come October.

    Vacation from what?

    • joy says:

I was just about to ask that. I feel like their life is a big vacation compared to us peasants.

      • bettyrose says:

I feel like their “vacations” are just the same daily routine but in a new location: i.e. no cooking, no cleaning, plenty of leisure time for shopping and spa appointments., but sometimes that gets old and you want to be pampered in a tropical climate instead.

    • pippa middle says:

      +1M.

What else do they do but vacation; Workless Waity CANNOT and P WILLNOT running to the country to avoid KM. RF work. Let hope Prince George takes after Uncl P Harry!

  3. HappyMom says:

Okay-I was a Kate and Will apologist for a long time. But I just cannot with them anymore. Well deserved time off?? From what, exactly? I see the Queen and Prince Philip in their 90s at so many engagements. Charles and Camilla are everywhere. How difficult would it be for them to show up to 3 things a week? It’s not exactly mentally taxing. You smile, wave, make small talk, look concerned, admire things, cut ribbons, watch people dance/sing/craft. Jeez. They’d still have plenty of free time. It’s kind of mind boggling.

    • Green Girl says:

I am basically co-signing all of this.

I don’t think anyone is asking them to work 80+ hour weeks, but they could squeeze in two daytime events and one evening event every week and still have plenty of time for long weekends in the country. They could do one all-day event, head over to some evening soiree, then spend the next day at another all-day event. It would make for long days, but it’s only two days per week and then they’re done until next week. That’s manageable!

      • FLORC says:

You’re being more pushy than us H8rs. What’s wrong with simply attending 2 1 hour or so events for your own charities or causes a week? Official duties with the Queen or other royals do not count. Just you and your charity figuring out how to get more awareness/fundraising. Or setting plans into motion addressing new topics. Is that too much?

The press would go mad at all the chances to snap shots of them and then they would lose interest with no scandals or lack of events. They would become just another ordinary royal couple. They would have more privacy that way too. 2 birds with 1 stone! I solved their PR issues and will send out an invoice.

    • Vesta says:

      I see your point.
But I kind of also think PR can be very hard work too, if it involves important issues.

Before, I used to admire people like Grigori Perelman, but by reading this site I’ve sort of changed and I’ve really grown to deeply appreciate the kind of humanitarian PR work Angelina Jolie does.

But, ahem, where were we… talking about these two… Well, I personally try and I try to understand why this couple is so lazy, but there’s no answer. It IS mind boggling. I wish Charles would do something and put the Cambridges in order!

      • bettyrose says:

PR can be very hard work for people who have to bust their butts to bring attention to an issue, but all Will & Kate would have to do is show up to events that other people have planned, and the press will follow.

Angelina Jolie might not be supervising caterers or other grunt work at PR events, but she does fly around the world to speak at events and use her celebrity to bring attention to global causes. And she does this in addition to her other jobs as an actress and mother to six children. And, yet, I bet she would even say (in fact I think she has said) that she has the privilege of money and staff that allow her to play so many roles, that it’s not a struggle for her.

I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but it’s hard to understand why people who could support worthy causes without leaving the warm embrace of luxurious living wouldn’t choose to do so. Regularly.

      • d gardin says:

        Vesta, Green,

        Agree!

Waity workless Cannot doolittle most of all should be sowing goodwill as she was NOT born royal. Both are a waste of tax payers pounds and. freeloaders, like the social climbers middlekardashions.

    • gayle says:

” But I just cannot with them anymore. ”
      —————————————————————————-
You cannot do what with them?? Don’t understand that sentence.

      • HappyMom says:

Cannot excuse how little they actually do.

      • Serenity says:

I’m surprised you haven’t heard that sentence as it’s quite popular nowadays – ‘I just cannot with them’. It usually indicates frustration and end of patience with a particular situation or person.

    • Megan says:

It takes a lot of time, energy and money for a charity to plan an event around a royal visit. Showing up at a charity a few times a week isn’t practical because it takes weeks if not not months of planning. Hosting events for their charities at KP, receiving foreign dignitaries, visiting historical or natural sites, visiting key industries in the UK – the things Charles does – is the kind of work they should be doing.

      • India Andrews says:

They can show up for their charities if they take on a few more. Kate isn’t going to visit the same eight charities five or six times a year. Remember Diana had many more charities and so does Charles. Also, remember Kate and William aren’t the ones doing the planning for the event. The charities hire someone to do that. All William and Kate do is show up. So, the earlier suggestion that they could do two daytime events and one evening event a week is completely doable.

    • hayley says:

I honestly don’t understand why the royals need to be paraded around the country and the world like a King Tut exhibit in order to be considered worthy of existing ? They show up, they’re pampered, people show up to gawk, and they leave. It’s the nature of who they are and where they come from, as it has been for centuries. Who cares if they read to school kids one day and fly to an island paradise the next? I would love to have so little to fret about in my life.

  4. Diana says:

They have a sweet setup. Barely doing any work, what work is done is laughably easy because it’s just people fawning over you, and then you get to take a vacation every, like, two months on the taxpayer dime. Also, they spend millions on renovating and redecorating, and they don’t have to pay for it.

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but that’s how it seems like it goes for them. And I am bitterly jealous because I wish that were me!

  5. ShazBot says:

Jeez, watching the Commonwealth Games must be SO exhausting! And for 2 (TWO!) whole days! I just don’t know how they do it.

  6. Micki says:

…”Kate has been hands-on with the renovations ” I’m sure her hands are covered with scars from all the nails she hammered down herself! That’s why there was no sign of them on official events. No wonder they deserve a vacation.
But seriously I’m tired and bored with the Royal coverage.

  7. Sender says:

Everyone in Europe gets a month off and they all like to take it in July or August. Just because those of us in the US are under the thrall of big corporations with two inhumane weeks a year doesn’t mean we need to be jealous. Get new lawmakers.

    • pleaseicu says:

A month vacation on top of all the other vacations and not working throughout the year? Or a month vacation annually? Because I would imagine the average working person in Europe doesn’t get to take 10 days off for a vacation, then a few more days off, then not work for months on end, work for three days then not work for weeks again, then work for 2 days, then not work and end up not working more than he/she worked and still get to take 1 full month of vacation whenever he or she wants. If that’s the set-up for European workers, I’m moving to Europe tomorrow.

      • Nanea says:

People usually get 30 days paid leave here in Germany – that means if you work 5 days a week, you get six weeks off. Part timers get exponentially less.

      • ArtHistorian says:

It is the same here in Denmark – a full-time job gives six weeks vacation in a year.

      • pleaseicu says:

But I’m assuming to get those six weeks, you have to actually work full-time, correct? Would you still get those six weeks if you worked for 2-3 days then just not worked for three or four weeks after?

I don’t begrudge a paid vacation but these two seem to live on a paid vacation with short bursts of work for 2 days, 2-3 hours a day once every four-to-eight weeks. They worked like 8 or so days, for like a max of 4-5 hours a day, over eight or so weeks and now they’re taking a month vacation. To me, that’s ridiculous.

      • ArtHistorian says:

The six weeks is for full-time work. Part-time or free-lance is a very different matter. I haven’t had a holiday in years.

    • fairy godmother says:

The difference between us peasants and these two is that their life is one big permanent holiday with very brief and few appearances for the BRF!
As for the United States it is a culture of live to work; whereas, Europe has a culture of work to live. Things are far more at ease and pleasurable.

    • HappyMom says:

The Queen has always taken August off. But she works the rest of the year. That’s the disconnect. The 2 of them barely do anything and take multiple vacations a year. Hence the shade on them now taking a “break from their busy schedules.”

    • gayle says:

Don’t assume everyone who comes to this site is American. Judging from the comments, there are also Canadians, Australians, as well as people from South and Central America…

    • HH says:

Wow… I’m assuming the anger is because you’ve run out of vacation time…???

    • India Andrews says:

Kate and William take more than a month off every year.

  8. Diana says:

    Those wedges again!

    • Hazel says:

Yeah, & I think that’s why she kept her feet out & didn’t take them straight up over those cans. Those wedges wouldn’t have cleared the cans!

  9. Froop says:

Two whole days of watching sport, and now they need a holiday to recover? I’ve been done with these 2 for a long time so this is just typical to me now.

  10. Karen says:

Considering they both have a bit of a flushed tan I’d say they just came back from a weekend away.

But sureeee…. all hard work and a much deserved vacation in August.

OT: botox, right? That forehead is frozen.

    • AM says:

Yes to the Botox. Finally ended the ‘is she pregnant?’ question for me. Her forehead didn’t move once this week.

    • KG says:

Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed this.

    • FLORC says:

They might have a tanning bed or natural light lamps. I’m not their level of wealth, but have daylight lamps that can accidentally give me a tanline.

    • Megan says:

Who cares if she gets botoxed? Millions of people do it.

      • FLORC says:

Millions don’t deny it, have public money or money they didn’t earn cover the bills, or spend so much effort for pr claiming they’re natural beauties.
        I think that’s the difference.

You are right though. Loads of people get tox and fake hair. No one bats an eye. Many here noted it and not in a negative way until pr stories were released claiming she didn’t do that and fans claimed she was all natural. That’s how it evolved the way it has.`

  11. The Original Mia says:

Vacation from what? Anyhoo…same laziness, different day.

  12. BeckyR says:

Oh, please. Some of them may show up more than others, but how much WORK is it to get dressed up, be driven somewhere, have every want and need attended to and then go home? NONE of them know what real work is. No wonder the British taxpayers are fed up with these grifters.

  13. bettyrose says:

Gawd, I would be sooo bored. I love the occasional weekend day to sleep in, get a massage, cook dinner, and relax with wine & a movie. But I’m seriously bored after one day of that. Relaxation needs to be balanced with mentally engaging activities. Amirite??

    • ArtHistorian says:

Yep. Constant leisure would drive me batty, especially if every need is taken care of – I often wonder if they have hobbies or other interests to fill the days.

      • bettyrose says:

“Constant leisure would drive me batty, especially if every need is taken care of” <– LMAO! When you put it like that, seems like kind of a silly thing to complain about, but we peasants stay mentally engaged through daily problem solving: budgets, carpools, office drama . . . would we really even know how to handle a life without all that?

      • ArtHistorian says:

I think it would be very very easy to fall into a pattern of lassitude and passivity, especially if you live in a bubble that insulates you from the ordinary life of other people. It becomes the normal state of affairs. I have no experience with that kind of lifestyle so I do wonder what on earth they do with all their free time. Do the sleep in every day? Do they have any interests or hobbies to engage in? I guess that Kate spends a lot of time with George and that he’s quite the handful at his age. I read she likes to cook so maybe she makes foodstuffs that take a lot of time (I certainly like to do that). I would probably read a lot.

However, they don’t have to do household chores, gardening, worrying about money, etc. – so I do wonderful. How does one life a life of complete leisure, without ony of the chores and worries that the rest of us have to deal with?

      • India Andrews says:

I would need a hobby or a part-time job that is stimulating. Otherwise, I would go crazy with all of the time off.

    • FLORC says:

      bettyrose
When your day doesn’t consist of some form of arithmetic you forget how to to do it. When you go without practicing cursive you don’t retain that knowledge. You fill your day up with menial tasks that seem drawn out and hard because it becomes a struggle. Your brain has so much down time it goes out of use. And your “busy work” becomes laboring being the only mental work they might do all day.
These are WAG problems. I just took a fun 2nd job as a TRX instructor and those are my clients. They’ll work out hard, but as them how much change is left over if you have a dollar and spend 65cents, you’ll get a blank stare or condescending attitude. Still fun though.

      • caitlin says:

FLORC – what an insightful comment! I totally get what you are saying and actually sometimes fear the same thing happening to me if I don’t challenge my brain and limit myself to menial tasks. I have overheard snippets of conversations between the “WAG” group you refer to, and their “problems” or “challenges” seem ridiculous indeed.

      • Megan says:

FLORC – what a nasty post about wealthy women who are not employed outside of the home. Not having a job doesn’t make one a hopeless dip sh@t.

      • bettyrose says:

Megan -If FLORC’s assessment is off, what’s your explanation of how unemployed wealthy people spend their days on remote country estates? Day after day after day of not working, not volunteering, not cooking or cleaning . . . Emily Bronte and Henry James gave me the impression that death by ennui is a very real threat to the leisure classes.

      • notasugarhere says:

It is an accurate assessment of what happens when skills are not used. Take learning how to read the roman (western) alphabet. You are not born knowing how to read. You have to learn shapes, that certain shapes are letters, those letters have sounds, those sounds or letters are put together to form words, words are put together to form sentences, etc. Those are the building blocks of early literacy.

Studies have shown that people can go from being illiterate (don’t know how to read), to literate (have learned how to read and DO actively read), to aliterate (know how to read but aren’t interested so they stop reading), and back to illiterate (don’t know how to read because they forgot how).

There are skills that you learn, and if you do not utilize those skills (like reading, mathematics, etc.), it has been *proven* that you can forget how to do those things / no longer know how to do those things.

      • Megan says:

I know exactly what they do because my mom was by today’s standards a WAG. I can say without a doubt if someone was rude enough to question her intelligence by asking her to subtract 65 from 100 she would have reduced them to a pile of ash with a single look.

      • notasugarhere says:

FLORC wrote of her experiences of the multiple women in her classes. She’s not making it up, that is her experience. You have experience of your mother, and you’re not making that up. Neither of you speaks for all of the people who have been in that life situation before, although FLORC has the edge of interacting with more of them, and more recently, than you have.

      • Megan says:

I interact with my mom and the type of women FLORC disparages every single day. And since I have actual relationships and friendships with these women, I think I have a far greater insight than their exercise instructor.

      • notasugarhere says:

Again, you have the experience of the women in your sphere. She has experience of the women in hers. You base your opinion on your experiences, she bases her opinion on hers. Both valid sets of experiences and valid sets of opinions.

      • Megan says:

Notasugarhere – it doesn’t matter what I say you will disagree or try to diminish it because it doesn’t conform to your opinions.

      • notasugarhere says:

Categorically untrue. I have agreed with you in the past, and I may agree with you in the future. You disagree with FLORC’s opinion, fine. Some agree with it, fine. That doesn’t make one opinion correct and the other incorrect.

      • Megan says:

FLORC – for someone who expresses concern about privacy on Facebook, you seem rather willing to sacrifice your clients privacy by complaining about them here.

      • Megan says:

Notasugarhere – you are very tiresome.

      • FLORC says:

        Megan
I’m not naming names at all. No one here knows my locations, name, places of employment, etc… So, how was their privacy violated?

And I don’t think I said anything about ALL women who aren’t employed outside of their homes are like this. That was something you put in there to get excited about. Your thoughts. Not mine.

Also, Megan. How can I “disparage every single day” these women when1. I’m not on this site every single day. And 2. Am not working with those ladies every single day.
I don’t know your mother. I’m not insulting your mother. So let’s put your mother aside here.
I do admit I might have a skewed image of these ladies. When I see them they act and speak like the world revolves around their gossip. Regarding their lack of math skills came from trying to explain how I charge for my time. Also, how to properly write a check when the credit card wouldn’t swipe. Also, don’t take the 65cents out of a dollar as a literal question. I never asked that.

Last bit to you. My privacy is secured as much as I can within my own power. If I had a fb page and complained about clients there your argument would have something, but I don’t, I didn’t, and it does not.
So, please. If you want to debate don’t start off by inserting issues where there were none.

        Notasugarhere
It’s worth noting we rarely seem to agree in other threads so you’re not a poster coming to my aid for any reason other than the facts. Also, thanks to bettyrose and caitlin for getting what I was saying.
Not all women who stay at home not working and very comfortably living off of their husbands income are this way. There are exceptions to the rule. It’s not hard to understand how this so easily happens though. And how we start to value real housewives lifestyles from show popularity.

Bottom line. If you’re not actively retaining knowledge, you stand a high risk of forgetting. If you used that knowledge until your later years you might retain it better being more active with it. And no one read into my comments anything I don’t lay out. I write very literally.

      • India Andrews says:

Love that post FLORC. So true. So many people can’t do the most basic things. I went to a family owned market and the daughter counted back my change properly. I wanted to kiss her. It is so rare anymore.

  14. aang says:

What is going on in those photos?

  15. Lisa says:

Is there something mentally and/or physically wrong with these two? How could two young presumably healthy, presumably intelligent people not be bored to tears by the life they lead. Vital people seek challenges to live life fully. Sure — they can wallow in luxury all they want, that is their fate — but most humans are compelled to do something, anything but all these two do is just marinate in a (albeit luxurious) retirement home life. Look at Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg or any of those people — they have power and luxury beyond anything that even WillKat could even dream of but they are still, every day, trying to do more, achieve more. Look at P. Charles or P. Anne — they are trying to make a difference, to live fully. I really don’t get it — these 2 are wasting their precious God-given lives. Perhaps they are imbeciles or infirm in some way?

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

      “presumably intelligent people”

There’s your mistake, right there. “Can you . . . um . . . test the . . . um . . . smell of the tea . . . by smelling it?” That was a PLANNED visit to a teashop, and that’s all her brain could come up with. People criticize Kate because she sounds so stiff during a speech, looking down at her notes every three words. But the palace apparently drills it into them DO NOT STRAY FROM THE SCRIPT. I wouldn’t trust them to think for themselves either.

    • wendi says:

Absolutely agree. The bar has been set so low for these 2 that they are applauded and fawned over for showing up and breatheing at the odd event!!! And as far as Kate is concerned, she earns brownie points for wearing adequate clothing. I know this is a gossip site, but come on!!!!

Good point about Princess Anne. When was the last time you read anything about her fashion choices?? No, she’s all about the work.

      • Dany says:

One thing i noticed about Anne is that she wears the same dresses as 30/40 years ago! They still fit! That´s awesome! She´s no fashion victim, when she works she is all the confident and regal Princess Royal and not a clothes horse.

    • Hazel says:

I think that might be why they’re always going somewhere. Something to plan for (OK, maybe they have staff for that), someplace new to sleep/see/do provides SOME stimulation, stimulation otherwise missing from their lives. Although having a baby provides new stimulations & challenges.

  16. GiGi says:

I find it very hard to believe their presence isn’t required at Balmoral for at least a good portion of the Royal Family’s 8 week annual stay. Maybe they’re using the excuse of the Sandringham house reno to get out of the super rigid Balmoral stay? Did they go last year? Or was Georgie too young? I bet they have another baby by next year so they can bag the Balmoral trip then, too!

    • notasugarhere says:

HM does not demand that any member of the family go on vacation with her for 8 weeks. HM asks ONE day from her family, one. That has been stated repeatedly for years. The one day HM requests of her family is Christmas Day. Every other day of the year is theirs to do whatever they wish, but Christmas Day HM requests her entire family be with her. So naturally, that is the one day W&K refuse to give her.

  17. SoCal says:

I know William was a pilot before in Angelsey, but why would QEII allow him to do it again, its very dangerous as he is in line to throne. Does William have a death wish? Is the idea of becoming king that bad?

As William was growing up, QEII and Prince Charles should have discussed and planned a future job for him that doesn’t involve certain death when you fall out of the sky.

    • FLORC says:

You assume the Queen has power she exercises over William. She won’t do anything until forced to. William didn’t even tell her about the engagement shortly before he told us all.
I do wonder if there’s added security for William each time he goes airborn again. There must be (right?) and that comes directly from taxpayer funds.

  18. anne_000 says:

Face it. They will always be essentially useless working for charities, and they’re going to spend most of their lives in leisure-time.

  19. Jocelyn says:

I’ll just be positive and say that I love the picture of Kate jumping over the cans. People had a gif of it yesterday and it was awesome.

    • Vava says:

I saw a gif too, and her feet didn’t actually go over the cans, they went around them. Not sure if it was trick photography, but if it wasn’t she’s even too lazy to jump OVER the cans! LOL.

I have very low expectations of them and don’t see that changing anytime soon.

      • Jocelyn says:

I watched it again and you’re right she did jump around them. Lol at the too lazy comment. I can’t really fault her for that since after a certain incident in 5th grade at field day I would have jumped around too. In Kate’s case, she was wearing those chunky blue wedges so she probably didn’t want to trip. She should have worn sneakers.

      • Hazel says:

Those Wedges of Doom wouldn’t have cleared the cans!

      • FLORC says:

Had her heels caught on the cans she could have tripped so I get it.
Doesn’t excuse her from bringing out those wedges again though. Pants would have been perfect for this event. While her assistant could have carried a pair of sneakers to change into like they’ve done before for her.

  20. Dame Snarkweek says:

After the Aussie/NZ tour KP announced that Kate would be taking it easy throughout the summer and would be overseeing renovations and raising George. That is exactly what she is doing so why is everyone shocked and/or ticked off? Kate is never going to be a work horse so the repetitious complaining gets old.
As for William, he has actually worked a hell of a lot since the tour. But that would never be covered here so I get why people seem unaware of it. And I see no need to criticize the nature of William’s engagements because none of the royals truly work.
My theory is that William has worked so hard this spring/summer so people won’t give him sh*t about his millionth gap year. Good luck with that, Bill.

I do agree with your theory. Their loads of events always come out in prep for a stretch without or to currently distract from something like many new kitchens that will go unused.
Does anyone know if these events were scheduled before the kitchen news and William’s latest job came out?

Waity the WAG must be the only royal to get spray tanned and botoxed. She would be more suited to being married to a soccer player.

About the only Celebitchy posts I ever comment on are in regard to William and Kate. Why that is, I’m not sure. I guess because I think true “celebrities” have a different sent of social rules and expectations to deal with.

William and Kate are in a different category. I guess they don’t quite understand that just yet. They need to be more mindful of their public service obligations. I’m not sure they understand that. The spotlight needs to be on William. He is the ‘heir to the heir’. It’s where it’s at, William! If you don’t want the scrutiny, then you should forgo the perks of the position. Kate has already demonstrated that she is subservient to William. I get that….OK………..even though I wouldn’t approach things that way if I was in her position. Kate seems to be from a bygone era! Those two need to get their shit together, sooner rather than later.
