Most years, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association does a big event over the summer under the guise of giving “grants.” I’m making it sound like a bigger conspiracy than it really is. The HFPA really do give out grants to struggling filmmakers and such, but the summer Grants Benefit has turned into an opportunity for would-be awards-season wannabes to suck up to the HFPA. As such, the summer banquet has become incredibly well-attended. This year’s banquet was attended by Channing Tatum (who wants a nomination for Foxcatcher), James Marsden, Sofia Vergara, Michael Pena (he’s in Fury, which could be awards-baity), Eddie Redmayne (he might be up for some big awards for playing Stephen Hawking), Hailee Steinfeld (perhaps a musical nomination for Begin Again?), Elle Fanning (Maleficent, perhaps) and Robert Pattinson, who is in the midst of a successful reboot of his career.
That’s Sofia working a half-sheer red dress by an unknown designer. It looks pretty typical for her. Maybe Dolce? Perhaps. And here’s Elle Fanning in Vivienne Westwood Gold Label. This is a great dress. It might be a bit too mature for her, but she’s working it.
Here’s Kristen Bell in Andrew Gn. She’s pregnant again! I had forgotten.

And here are some of the dudes, including Redmayne, Tatum, Pena, Marsden and Pattinson. All of them are looking really nice. Out of this group, I think Redmayne and Tatum are the biggest awards-contenders this year.

Kirsten’s face is maturing in a lovely way. I hope she allows it to happen. The only name I got excited about was Stephen Hawking, which seemed odd, but then I read the context. A big group of ‘meh’ for me.
But! There is an awesome interview with Channing from years ago where he takes the interviewer camping and drinking and shenanigan-ing.
Sophia Vigara looks hot, a little hookerish with the net fabric, but she is hot enough and Hollywood enough she can get away with it. Channing always looks good. He could be wearing torn tighy whiteys and he’d be hot. Robert Patterson looks nice too. I agree that James Marsden also rocked a sexy suit. The rest look like a hot mess. WTH is Patricia Arquette a monk now? I don’t get her look. Great post!
The dudes ALL brought it. Chan, Sparkles, Marsden, even Redmane – who is a great dresser but usually I dont find him attractive. But I like him here!

She’s gloriously eccentric in a ‘fug clothing’ way. I’d say she learned it from Thomas Jane, but she’s always been a bit ‘different’. And I like her all the more for it.
I didn’t mention her in my earlier comment because I truly don’t understand what she was trying to communicate through her outfit, she should’ve just stayed home or something.

The Hollywood Foreign Press is so hilariously shady and sketchy (“charity” is a very loose word) but I do admire how they have made necessary for stars to show up and suck up.
So these are the hungriest for publicity this year (who are not A list enough to refuse). Interesting…

I wonder if a24 will push for awards even though the movie underperformed. It takes a lot of money to campaign. Maybe sparkles will pay for it like Melissa Leo.
He was quite good in an otherwise very depressing bit of film. I could totally see ✨Sparkles✨ funding his own awards campaign. It was a very savvy move on Melissa’s part.
I think he is WAY too self-conscious to do something like that, not his style. He seemed embarrassed to even be at that event.
I think it’s cool that his name is even mentioned in the mix (further proof he can shake the Twilight stigma with time).
I don’t know how Redmayne hasn’t won some type of best dressed/style award. He is hands down the best dressed guy I have ever seen, all the time (casual attire as well)! Even if he’s not that cute. He’s in a league of his own.
I agree, he always looks great. I wish more actors dressed like him, male fashion on the red carpet would be more fun if that was the case. His hair always bugs me though.

Channing Tatum and Acadamy Award-winner JUST doesn’t sound right. If that makes sense? Then again, that entire show has become nothing but a predictable mockery of true talent.
Have to agree Sofia’s dress just looks cheap, and her shoes look like torture devices. I think Elle Fanning’s dress is a stunning color on her, but I’ll fitting around the hips ruins it for me. Love Channing’s look best!!
Most of the men look great. Redmayne consistently delivers, Pattinson always cleans up well and I love me some James Marsden.
