Chris Pratt visits kids at LA Children’s hospital, lets them try on his GOTG costume

First of all, Bedhead gave me permission to cover her man Chris Pratt, just so you know why I’m encroaching on her territory. In an interview Bedhead covered last month, Pratt admitted to taking his Starlord costume from the Guardians of The Galaxy set specifically so that he could wear it to entertain sick kids in the hospital.

He said: “I stole the jacket and some of the wardrobe so that, if this movie comes out and does what everyone hopes it can, I can follow the example of someone — say, like, a Russell Wilson [QB for the Seattle Seahawks] – and go visit kids. If it was a big enough movie to where it would mean something to a kid who’s sick in the hospital for Peter Quill or Star-Lord to come visit them, I’ll do that.” This issue is very personal to Pratt because his son Jack, now two, was born premature and spent over a month in the NICU.

Well Pratt has made good on his promise to visit sick kids while in costume. He paid a visit to the LA Children’s Hospital on Wednesday dressed as Peter Quill. He let kids try on his character’s signature red leather jacket, and he even visited a young fan of The Lego Movie. (Which was awesome, he was so good as the lead character, Emmet. I’ve seen that movie four times. I have a kid, ok? GOTG was decent too, Pratt was charming.) Here’s a little about his visit, thanks to Yahoo!

If you thought you couldn’t crush on ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ star Chris Pratt any harder, prepare to be wrong.

On Wednesday, the actor paid a surprise visit to Los Angeles Children’s Hospital in his Peter Quill costume from the movie, where he hung out with patients and let them try on the Star-Lord outfit.

He also spent time with ill child Dylan Prunty. Prunty suffers from a mitochondrial disorder and has been nicknamed “Lego Kid” because he loves the toys so much. Pratt of course voiced the lead character of Emmett in ‘The Lego Movie’ earlier this year.

Someone snapped a photo of the grinning 35-year-old, as he signed something for his young fan while wearing a hospital gown and gloves. Outside the hospital, he talked to fans and took pictures…

Pratt will have plenty more opportunities to be charitable, thanks to the success of ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’. A sequel is in development, as is a follow-up to ‘The Lego Movie’.

Excuse me while I try not to get choked up. I really loved the photo of Pratt (below) with young lego fan Dylan Prunty. Do you see all that Lego in the background? Dylan built all that.

I checked the LA Children’s hospital’s twitter account and found another photo of Dylan’s Lego work. He made an impressive replica of the hospital entirely in Lego. Chicago Bulls basketball player Pau Gasol met with Dylan last week and tweeted these pictures of his visit. It must have been such a thrill for Dylan to meet Gasol and later Emmet!

People on Reddit are comparing Pratt to Tom Hanks in terms of how genuinely nice he is along with his career trajectory. I think that’s an apt comparison, although Pratt has a way to go yet. Lego Movie and GOTG were huge successes and both are getting sequels. I may just start covering Pratt more. (Until Bedhead tries to shank me.)

    Love this guy.

    • SpookySpooks says:

Me too. I haven’t liked a celebrity as a person this much in a very long time.
      Pau Gasol is awesome too.

    • Lady Macbeth says:

Me too. Even though I have never seen one of his movies. It is really great he showed up at the child hospital 🙂

    • MonicaQ says:

      Agreed.

    • Dara12 says:

Chris is a douche. How quickly people forget that this is the same guy that got rid of his cat because it was old and he and Anna wanted to start a family. Pets are a lifetime commitment! People who abandon their pets when they have a baby are the absolute worst.

      • lucy2 says:

While I am in full agreement that when you adopt a pet it should be for life, I just want to point out 2 things. Their cat was having issues that would have potentially made it an unhealthy environment for a pregnant woman or baby, and they didn’t abandon the cat, they found it a new, suitable home.
I think he went about it the wrong way (twitter to strangers) and got defensive when called on it, but it’s not like they dropped it off on the steps of the nearest shelter and sped off.

      • Side-Eye says:

So never mind all the great stuff he’s done for cancer-stricken kids, he’s an a-hole because of that one time he gave away a cat he couldn’t take care of, to a family that did. Ok sis.

      • Kate2 says:

@side-eye & lucy2 – Agreed 100%. I hate this attitude that because someone does one thing you don’t agree with, you’re forever an a-hole with no hope of redemption. Ridiculous.

I wonder if those people could stand up to the same amount of scrutiny they hold these others to. They must not have many friends if someone is forever a douche for doing something they find offensive at some point in their lives. No one is perfect.

Chris Pratt did a totally awesome thing and he’s done nothing to convince me he’s anything but a nice, cool person.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      So sweet.

    • doofus says:

I’m liking him more and more with each story that comes out about him.

what a nice guy. and he’s cute, too!

  2. Lisa says:

love him, love anna farris, so yeah, i think those two are genuinely nice people! 🙂

  3. Lady L says:

Celebitchy, you don’t have to justify your love for The Lego Movie! It was creative, funny, and its heartfelt message is one for all ages. Everything is awesome! Including Chris Pratt!

  4. Mia4S says:

That’s cute! I can’t say I’ve seen signs of any spectacular acting talent, but I think he could have a long career in blockbusters and crowd-pleaser comedies. Nothing wrong with that, it’s needed.

    • JayGee says:

Pratt was in the Hurt Locker as a navy seal.

      • Kali says:

You might be thinking of “Zero Dark Thirty” 😄 I absolutely loved Chris Pratt in that, he was incredibly funny in the scenes that he had. For, you know, a movie about killing Bin Laden 😳

      • Mia4S says:

It was Zero Dark Thirty and he was good in a tiny part. He was funny though, and very much himself. A slightly subdued StarLord.

I think he knows his strengths and limits, his next film is Jurassic World and he will run from dinosaurs beautifully. I like him, I just think he will make a great blockbuster star, not so much a great actor. (I’m also trying to reality check the hype as it’s the Internet and people will start hating him for being too perfect in about five minutes. I think he deserves at least ten minutes of love Internet! 😉 )

    • Lucinda says:

He may also evolve as an actor. It’s hard to say. Give him time.

  5. Kate2 says:

What a sweet guy. Anna is a lucky lady (and he’s a lucky man).

  6. Josefa says:

    Pratt’s a keeper. Love him.

And yes, The Lego Movie WAS amazing! I love when I feel producers actually put effort in producing an original and witty production for kids, because those are usually so formulaic and repetitive. The Lego Movie and How to Train Your Dragon are the only recent kid films I legitimately enjoyed. I found Frozen to be painfully overrated.

    • Rae says:

I’d add Wreck It Ralph. That is quite possibly my favorite kids movie ever. Tangled, also. I love How to Train Your Dragon, but The Lego Movie didn’t really do much for me. I fell asleep.

  7. QQ says:

That is supercute.. He is the Best Chris we’ve had in years! Funny and sweet and goofy, I hope he goes far in this New Leading Man Chris Overlord moment he is having in Hollywood

    • Lori says:

Yes!! He is the best Chris.

      • Kali says:

What do you want to bet that every male actor 25-35 in Hollywood that is reasonably attractive and has a decent sense of comedic timing has or is going to change their first name to Chris?

  8. Kali says:

WHY IS IT SO DUSTY IN HERE?!? 😥😰😩😫😭😭😭😭😭 (please excuse me, I had my second rewatch of Guardians tonight and this story on top of Rocket and “We. Are. Groot” is just wrecking me…)

The pic with Dylan killed me as you know he’s had to have been in there for a while to make a replica that size.

Off to watching Dancing Groot. Excuse me.

    😫😫😫

    • MonicaQ says:

Omg when Rocket yelled, “I DIDN’T GET ASKED TO GET TAKEN APART AND PUT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN!” and followed it up with this broken sob of “I didn’t…”, I almost bawled in the theater. It was such a short scene but it gut checked the hell out of me.

      • Josefa says:

Rocket was the best part of the movie. You can tell someone’s doing a great job when you feel incredibly sorry for a CGI racoon with a machine gun. I know he’s not very popular here, but I do find BCoop to be a very talented actor.

      • Kali says:

@ MonicaQ – I managed to stop myself from ugly crying at that point. Just. The ugly cry came at the end with Drax and Rocket. You know the bit I’m talking about. That bit where Rocket’s just in shock for just a second and then he relaxes eventually 😢

@ Josefa – Word. Absolutely. Rocket pretty much stole the whole entire movie for me!

  9. Adrien says:

    Awww.

  10. Adrien says:

Comparing him to Tom Hanks? I hope Chris and Anna won’t spawn a Chet Haze in the future.

  11. sonalaceae (Nighty) says:

Nice attitude and the kid’s lego constructions are awesome.. Hope Dylan gets out of the hospital soon…

  12. claire says:

Liking him as a person was sealed for me when he complimented Amy Poehler in last year’s Paley Fest panel. She was talking about how everyone got along on set and said something complimentary and neutral about actors generally being decent people and Chris spoke up to talk about how, honestly, egos are out of control among a lot of actors, and they can really suck on set, but Amy isn’t like that at all. I think he said something like, all of the positivity trickles down from Amy. All the great camaraderie and respect is because she sets the tone and example. It was a very genuine nice honest comment and I loved that he called out celebrity egos in the way he did.

    • lucy2 says:

I get the impression that is a very happy set and they all get along well. I’ve often heard that the star sets the tone, so I can see Amy making sure it’s fun and ego-free. And it was really nice of him to compliment her on that.

      • claire says:

        Found the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLTHpPDj5hg.

Man, I can’t wait for the next season to start, but I’m so sad it’s the last!

      • lucy2 says:

Me too! I feel like a lot of my favorite shows just ended or this is their last season. I will really miss P&R.
Have you watched Brooklyn 99? Same show creator, and I think a similar sense of humor. I’m hoping it will help ease the sadness of P&R ending!

  13. Hissyfit says:

Gotg is corny as hell and if it wasn’t a Marvel classic, i highly doubt it’ll be a hit but nevertheless I am glad Chris is finally getting some Hollywood fame. I’ve always liked him in Parks and Recreation and he and Anna are so cute. I hope he’ll more movie offers beside this Galaxy franchise.

  14. Becki says:

I am definitely loving this guy!! I hope he has a lot of success b/c he seems like such a great & charming guy.

  15. KB says:

Love him! Awesome to see him following through on that promise, and awesome to see a good guy have so much success. I cannot wait until Parks & Rec comes back!

  16. Lucy says:

Miles Teller and Chris on the same day? Gah *heart eyes*

  17. Maria of MD says:

Pretty cool. His heart is in the right place!

  18. Becks says:

This makes me love him even more! He’s so freaking awesome!

  19. Amy says:

It’s so weird for me to see Chris Pratt getting all this recognition now and he does seem like a genuinely nice guy. I’ve known about him since back in the days when Everwood aired on the WB (before it became the CW, I sound old) and he played a bully football player type character who turned out to be a loveable idiot whose name was Bright (hint: his character was not very bright). Back then he was dating his costar Emily Vancamp (main girl on Revenge) which was a bit weird since they played siblings on the show. Seems like a good guy. 🙂

Sweet! Can’t wait till the next movie!
