Winner of Germany’s Idol is gay, dumped his bf and is cozying up to male judge

28 year-old Mark Medlock, the winner of last weekend’s finale on Germany’s Idol, “Deutschland sucht den Superstar,” is a well-liked and versatile singler who wowed judges and fans. He was my husband’s favorite and deserved to win. Voting on Germany’s version of Idol is based on call-in votes like on American Idol, but avoids some issues with multiple voting by adding fees that amount to about .75 US cents per call.

Medlock is gay, and although nothing was really said about it on the show you could easily tell and he seems to be open about it. Among the people interviewed for brief statements from friends and family was a male “friend” who was recognizable as his boyfriend.

Now that Medlock has been propelled to stardom he seems to have unceremoniously dumped his lover Stefan, 44, and says that he would “walk over corpses” for his career and isn’t going to be hindered by a relationship:

Berlin (ddp). The winner of the RTL-show “Germany seeks the superstar” (“DSDS”), mark Medlock (28), left according to a press report his lover Stefan (44). “I have no time for relationships. For that I love my job to much”, said Medlock, who already has a failed marriage behind him, according to the Berliner newspaper “B. Z”. (Monday edition). “I have an unique chance now. I have to go over corpses (walk over dead people). It doesn’t matter whose heart I break.” Moreover he is used to being by himself and is not the type for a relationship.

Tongues are wagging now that Medlock is cozying up to former boy band star and German celebrity, judge Dieter Bohlen. Bohlen is the Simon Cowell on the German panel, and does not hesitate to criticize contestants. He took a liking to Medlock and now they’re planning on doing a duet together on uber-popular German variety show “Wetten Das” (“Wanna Bet?”) to air on June 23.

Medlock is thrilled to be mentored by Bohlen, and spoke at length about how he would like to go on tour and make a record with him:

“Superstar” -winner mark Medlock and music producer Dieter Bohlen will have their large musical TV-entrance on the German public broadcasting station ZDF. “The world premiere of the duo Bohlen/Medlock will take place on “Wetten, dass..?” on the island of Mallorca…

Medlock won on Saturday the final of the RTL-Castingshow “Germany seeks the superstar” (“DSDS”). The 28-year-old was also the favorite of “DSDS” -Juror Bohlen. Between both, a friendship emerged in the course of the show. Bohlen wrote the song “Now or Never” for Medlock that he sang in the finale.

Medlock had said to the “Bild” (largest German newspaper) it would be his biggest dream to perform with Bohlen on the stage. “I will be at the microphone, Dieter at the white piano. I would like to give concerts with him, go with him on tour – and record with him”, he announced. Bohlen said: “I am ‘Mega-Happy’ over the success that we may have now as a duo. Now we will make together the best German pop-album for years. That will be the new “Modern Talking!” (“Modern Talking” – German cheezy pop duo through which Bohlen became famous and rich.)

By most accounts judge Bohlen is straight, he’s been married twice and now supposedly has a girlfriend he met in Mallorca when Superstar was filming tryouts there. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had something going on with Superstar winner Medlock, though. The guy is incredibly charismatic and he sure can sing.

Here are pictures from the “Deutschland sucht den Superstar’s” final show last Saturday. Medlock is shown with judge Deiter Bohlen in the header photo and with runner up contestant Martin Stosch in the inset image. (Stosch was never supposed to make it this far. He was eliminated two shows before the final, and was brought back in an upset when hot punk-looking Max Buskohl was thrown out for not cooperating with producers and announcing plans to bring his band with him for any recording contract.)

Medlock is awesome and I would love to see him have international success. Last year’s winner was hot rocker Tobias Regner.

And here are some videos of Medlock on Idol.
