Viggo Mortensen shows off a caramel-blonde coif in Venice: would you hit it?

Here are some photos of Viggo Mortensen and Reda Kateb at the Venice Film Festival photocall for Loin des Hommes, or Far From Men. Viggo seems to be doing these somewhat odd little indie films exclusively the past few years – I barely remember the last time he did a big studio picture (for the money). Viggo looks pretty good here, although I swear he lightened his hair. Did he use Sun-In or something? Just For Men: Caramel Blonde? He’s got light brown hair naturally and considering he’s 55 years old (!!!), he’s probably got a lot of grey. Hey, maybe the caramel blonde Aniston-hair is for another movie.

As for this film… it looks sort of interesting. It’s based on a story by Albert Camus about a teacher (played by Viggo) tasked with helping an Algerian villager get to safety because the villager (played by Reda Kateb) killed his own cousin. It’s set in 1954, with the backdrop of the French-Algerian War. Viggo speaks French throughout the entire film too, which makes him one of the most multilingual actors working today. Variety points out that Viggo has done films in English, Danish, Spanish, Lakota and Elvish already. Here’s a trailer for Frenchie Viggo in Far From Men:

It looks decent and poignant but it also looks… I don’t know, like it’s probably not for me. I doubt I’m the target audience. Sigh… I guess I’ll just look at photos of Viggo’s Aniston Hair.

    Viggo no.

  2. Eleonor says:

Whoever did this need to be punished NOW.

  3. It is what it is says:

    Mmmm Viggo forever!

  4. Sixer says:

REALLY like the look of the film. I saw a review on a Venice segment just last night.

Conversely, REALLY don’t like the hair. But it’s Viggo: I’ll get over it.

  5. maybeiamcrazy says:

I don’t like the hair but ot wouldn’t stop me from hitting it.

  6. Sea Dragon says:

It washes him out and makes him look older. But it’s just hair so yeah, I’d definitely hit it.

  7. Mrs. Darcy says:

Oh for the love of all that’s holy, I am scarred. http://img2-2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/090824/viggo_mortensen-Moon_l.jpg sigh…that’s better.

thank you, thank you…for posting a link showing him in his emblazened splendor forever 😉
      he truly was gorgeous, no?
      especially in the perfect murder.
      good gawd.
he remains a very handsome man.
perhaps he should reconsider this particular hair color?
      still LOVE him.

      • Mrs. Darcy says:

yw, I think it’s from “A Walk on the Moon”, my personal favourite Viggo film in terms of superficial hotness 😉 I think the hair must surely be for a role?!

    • Belle says:

The Blouse Man is on the premises!! Gah… I love that movie! *sigh*

  8. PunkyMomma says:

    No Viggo, just no. No.

  9. Dorothy#1 says:

The only time I find him hot is as Strider in Lord of the Rings.

    • sam says:

Yep, me too. Otherwise I just feel nothing. Now I want to watch LOTR again!

    • Lizzie K says:

I still regret Sean Bean didn’t get the role of Strider. 🙁 Viggo doesn’t and never has done it for me, but he’s the kind of guy Hollywood seems to favor — short and kind of small or lean in stature. I tend to like big, hunky guys like Dwayne Johnson or Idris Elba. I don’t dislike Viggo, I just don’t find him sexy.

  10. Vic says:

He reminds me of Martina Navratilova and I would like to hear Michael K on the matter.

  11. AlmondJoy says:

😦 Oh gawddd. He looks awful. Like a wannabe Keith Urban. This is just not good.

  12. Kali says:

My 57 year old aunt has this exact haircut.

    And colour.

  13. mom2two says:

I think Viggo is working on a project now which might explain the hair.

  14. Lempicka says:

Viggo forever. But he looks like a russian boytoy giving “surfing lessons” to older woman on a beach in bali with that hair.

  15. gytha says:

Yesterday i watched “witness” by Peter Weir and somewhere in the background was a very young Viggo Mortensen.
Even 30 years ago, he was not hot.
He never was, never will be.

  16. Meme says:

He lost the hot along time ago for me but this is inexcusable.

  17. Ellie66 says:

Wow his French is amazing…his hair not so much.

    • Godwina says:

Well, it’s fluent for sure, but he has quite the accent. Still hot, of course. French always is. 🙂

  18. Beth says:

Did you see his Ice Bucket Challenge? It looked like he might have got his hot back, but perhaps not based on this.

  19. Lilacflowers says:

Viggo, Viggo, Viggo! More Viggo, but not that hair color.

  20. Pager90 says:

    Hit it, Yes.

  21. Dirty Martini says:

That hair is criminal. He looks like a drag version of Glenn Close.

  22. Tig says:

Very odd shade- maybe the lighting makes it look so off? I vote for grey over this color- whatever you call it!

  23. FingerBinger says:

Viggo looks like exactly like Snoop Dog in white face and blond wig.

  24. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Tina Fey pulled a prank – this is really Amy Poehler.

  25. Courtney says:

    Nope.

  26. FrenchLily says:

    What is sexier than a Viggo Mortensen ? A French-speaking Viggo Mortensen ! * fans herself *

  27. Lara K says:

Oh my sweet Jesus, this is Miranda Lambert’s new haircut !!

Which I thought was awful on her, but is positively horrifying on him.
I need to have a drink.

  28. BadAssCompass says:

love him even if the walked around with ice bucket on top of his head.. well maybe not, because those eyes, that look, you can feel he’s a man with substance and such a terrific actor along with it

  29. Cerulean Skygirl says:

I have a lot of respect for him for living the exact life he wants to live. He only does projects that are meaningful to him, doesn’t feel pressure to always be in the spotlight and manages to fly under the radar in his personal life. An all around talented man who remains humble and private. I say good for him.

  30. Tiffany says:

I really need to watch Eastern Promises to rid myself of these photos.

  31. Amy says:

LOL it’s based on a French book. Spoiler alert even though I haven’t read the book: it’s probably not going to have a happy ending. Most French movies don’t have one. And as a fluent French speaker, his French is pretty decent though it was a little garbled here and there. But that blond hair has to go.

  32. SASSY says:

Will forever and always want to “hit it.”

  33. Altariel says:

Yes, yes, yes!! Anytime, any day ! His hair changes often, so no worries there. Watch him with Diane Lane in A Walk on the Moon for some serious hotness, if you haven’t seen it…and if you have go watch it again! (And see a young Anna Paquin long before she got Sookied to death) Just love Viggo and all his artsiness, and big studio shunning, which usually turns me off in actors, but Viggo nails it!

  34. jujubee says:

Viggo…..ANYTIME! ANYWHERE! Viggo is always my number one choice…

  35. Boromir's Bytch says:

The dark beard in the icebucket challenge vid makes up for the awful hair. I like that combination. As for the rest – Always, Anywhere, Anyhow, Anytime.

  36. BlackBetty says:

Hell yes- he can always change his hair back anyway.

  37. Grant says:

His career never really went anywhere after LOTR did it?
