It feels like just yesterday that I talked about People’s PR-friendly romance rollout for Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Martin. Yeah it was yesterday. They had a “super cute” date. I described JLaw’s new man as the king of elevator music. One of you clever types asked if that meant she was dating John Mayer. Very funny. And be careful what you wish for.
A new story from Hollywood Life says that the Douchebag Supreme has it bad for JLaw. That’s not surprising at all. Tons of guys have it bad for Jennifer. She’s an A-list talent who seems approachable and down-to-earth. John probably thinks he’s still got enough pull to land one of the hottest commodities in Hollywood. Does he have what it takes? John already tried to land JLaw once in 2012. She was nice to him, but hopefully she was just being polite. This new story made me laugh and then almost cry. I hope against hope that it’s not true. Did JLaw have dinner with John last week?
John has a history of dating Hollywood’s hottest ladies, and Jennifer’s his newest target! Apparently, John doesn’t care she’s dating Chris. The soulful singer is “determined to win her heart.”

He’s always got on some kind of grossly put together clothing. He basically has no style sense. Even if you’re doing boho, you have to do it kind of right, but John continually does it oddly. About Lawrence, I really hope this isn’t true, that she might be entertaining even slight thoughts of dating this guy. At this point, I find Mayer just “creepy,” way too creepy to date. Actually…embarrassing to date!! If she goes out with him, I’m kind of going to wonder what happened to her common sense? I don’t even find him attractive, especially not after what we now know about him. Too bad, because he does have a lot of talent in the music world, but is definitely a HUGE loser in the romantic area.

The fact that the interviewer asked if “black women throw themselves at you” was weird because as a black woman I had never heard of him before and I don’t think we were ever his fan base (??). It seemed almost deliberate because his answer was really soundbitey. I remember thinking afterwards “What black woman hurt you”? Also, to me, he is physically unattractive and I don’t know what women see him, but that’s just me.

@Mila Girl: I agree, I thought that Cooper seemed iffy and that Jennifer Lawrence seemed exactly as I pictured Serena when I read the book…which is terrific by the way. Serena is 27 at the start of the story, Lawrence was 21 when she filmed it, turned 22 that August (just finished reading about this film online, LOL!…did my research).
Anyway, a 21 year old playing a 27 year old isn’t really a stretch. I thought the trailer looked very melodramatic which isn’t how the story reads but, it looks beautifully shot and a pretty faithful adaptation.

I just watched the Serena trailer…there is no accent coming from Lawrence. I detected an accent coming from Cooper, because his character is supposed to hail from Boston. I loved her performance in AH, btw. I am really excited for Mockingjay…yay that the trailer debuts on Monday!.

He’s a good father, the problems during his marriage were specific to that relationship and may not indicate a general pattern, and he’s handling his breakup fairly gracefully. Let’s put it this way – if my friend were dating his non-famous equivalent, I’d give her a bit of a side eye but wouldn’t say anything.

@Alex: I would love to see Jennifer Lawrence work with Debra Granik again as Lawrence was just fantastic in Winters Bone. I also love her performances in Russell’s films because after Winters Bone and THG, Lawrence proved her range.
Having said that, there are other directors out there that I would love to see Lawrence work with like the Cohen brothers, Paul Thomas Anderson, Tarantino, Jane Campion, Lisa Choldanko (sp.?). I bet Lawrence will soon enough.

@Jules Yea I LOVE Winters Bone and I love SLP and AH (at least Jen’s role in AH) but she keeps acting in these aged roles. I am beginning to think that this is a HUGE media/hollywood drive to replace the the older media darlings Aniston and Jolie.
Both Aniston and Jolie are over saturated in the media nowadays and getting older. So now they have these younger face to push into the limelight, thats a bit edgy/different. I really cannot see the appeal of her over most other actresses. She’s had one or two decent roles and won an oscar, but thats mostly luck nowadays, along with politics mixed in rather than acting talent. She’s no Hunt or Streep in terms of acting ability, and lookwise she’s above average for normal folk, but really average for the hollywood scene. There are probably 2-3 women on your street that look similar and/or better than her.
