Keanu Reeves looks great at 50 years old, wants to play Doctor Strange now

We’re always getting requests for more of him, so here are some photos of Keanu Reeves at a New York screening of his new film, John Wick, two nights ago (Monday night). He looks good, doesn’t he? This man is such a vampire. He just turned 50 years old last month, and I have to say… it looks like he’s lost some weight or de-bloated or something, but this is the best he’s looked in a while. Damn, bro.

Anyway, to promote John Wick, Keanu did a Reddit AMA and it was charming. Keanu’s critics will always say that he’s not the best actor and that his verbal delivery is permanently set to “stoner.” But he actually is a genuinely nice guy and he really doesn’t do drama. His AMA was funny and chill and very upbeat. He says “uh” a lot. You can read the full AMA here and here are some highlights:

His biggest movie star friend: “Uh, let’s see. The biggest movie star I’m friends with would be… uh… Sandra Bullock! Yeah, through the years we kinda get together, have a dinner, catch up, see how it’s going.”

The two stalkers that broke into his house: “Yeah, I guess my security wasn’t good enough… it’s better now! And, uh, it was really scary. The first time was at like 4 in the morning on a Saturday, and it was scary.”

His favorite childhood comic book hero: “Growing up as a kid, my favorite superhero was… WOLVERINE!”

His favorite guilty pleasure: “Hmmm, GUILTY PLEASURE. Guilty pleasure is good, and then bad. But good. Today I will pick (I don’t know if it’s a guilty pleasure, though)… what would be a guilty pleasure? The second Caramel-Pecan chocolate. Deliciousness. Or is it the THIRD?”

The Doctor Strange casting rumors: “You know, I just *cough* …I just recently started to hear about that. I didn’t grow up reading the character of Dr. Strange, but the past few days, the people have been telling me about the character, and I have to call my Agent!”

[From Reddit]

I’ve been shipping Keanu and Sandra Bullock for years. What’s it going to take to get them together?! They would be lovely together. Do you think they just have the kind of friendship where they can flirt and catch-up and maybe hook up every now and then? I want them to hook up. I want it to be real!

As for the Doctor Strange rumors… Marvel really needs to cast that part, for the love of God. We’ve been hearing casting rumors for MONTHS! I don’t really think Keanu should play Doctor Strange, but I wouldn’t be mad if he was cast either.

I love him. I always will.

  2. J-G says:

I had a crush on him since Speed and it has never subsided. He looks great.

    • Somenestolemyname says:

      Yes.
      +100

He needs to call me. 🙂

    • Esmom says:

Showing my age, but I’ve had a crush on him since an ABC after school special he did probably 10 years before Speed. It’s mind boggling to me how little he has seemed to age.

      • mimif says:

YASSS! I remember that too, Esmom. 😀

        *throws tighty whities at Esmom*

      • Esmom says:

        *catches tighty whites*

Thanks mimif. Haven’t seen you here much lately, I hope that means maybe you’ve found something to fill the black void of despair left by WW and BB?

    • delorb says:

+whatever number we’re up to. I just loved him in Speed. Soon after it was released I was in a record store at a local mall and on the ceiling was this HUGE picture of Keanu. It covered almost the entire ceiling. I had a come to Jesus moment, right there in that store. Such a lovely man and nice to see that things are still going great for him. Take that Charlie Sheen!

  3. Dani2 says:

How in God’s name is he 50? He looks better than some of the guys who are my age. I really need to see receipts with this one lol.

  4. PunkyMomma says:

Maybe he really is a vampire.

  5. t.fanty says:

What in the Dorian Gray hell is going on with Keanu? I’m some combination of scared and aroused.

  6. jinni says:

Yeah he seems nice, but he’s sooooo blah. I always felt that that the main reason why so little gets out about him isn’t because he’s really private, but because there isn’t much going on with him/ much depth to him that would really interest anyone. Even his looks can’t make up for his seemingly lack of personality or the fact that he can’t act at all. All of those “uh” aren’t helping either.

Also, I have no great attachment to Doc Strange character, but I hope those rumors that he was going to play Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop have forever died because he doesn’t have the range or charisma to play one of the best anime characters in one of the best anime’s of all time. Hell, he doesn’t even have the range to play Vicious’s bird.

    • Sarah says:

Range is so overrated. He can play certain characters very well. That’s enough. I don’t think Daniel Day-Lewis can play a good Neo.

      • jinni says:

I guess I should have said one note (and the one note he’s capable of isn’t even an interesting note) or completely unable to express/show believable emotions. But I still stand by what I wrote.

      • bonsai mountain says:

Can I say how much I love your comment because I’ve actually said this very same thing to my friend?! I love Keanu, always and forever. I have this theory that because his personality is low-key in contrast to being physically stunning (and mixed race) people aren’t sure how to categorise him, and he gets ragged on a lot for being a terrible actor, when he’s just different. I know I can think of a whole host of Hollywood actors who are bland and forgettable by comparison. Ah well. To each his own.

    • Hmmm says:

He is kinda boring on screen and off. Terrible actor. Casting him as Dr Strange would be a huge misfire.
Too bad Joaquin didn’t want to do it, he would have been perfect as an actor, but I guess not so great as a Marvel company guy.

Can’t wait to see Inherent Vice!

    • may23 says:

Yeah, I agree he doesn’t have the most exciting persona off screen, but he just looks sooooo good. Remember him in “Speed”? Yummmy!!

    • notasugarhere says:

Have you seen him tell the story of one of the motorcycle accidents? Not a blah storyteller.

  7. AG-UK says:

LOVE LOVE HIM. He seems like such a nice guy. I hear that film is meant to be pretty good too.

  8. Zapp Brannigan says:

Well my day just got a whole lot better!

  9. LAK says:

    Love Keanu. End of.

  10. spaniard says:

Love him since “My Own Private Idaho”, he’s not only gorgeous but a great guy as well.

  11. Adrien says:

He looks good but his beard looks really sad. It looks like wiry bald patches. OK, I’m being kind, it looks like dudepubes. Still, I love Keanu.

  12. StormsMama says:

    FOREVER LOVE

I would, I always would, any day forever and ever.

    Sigh.

  13. Lilacflowers says:

Keanu as Dr. Strange would work for me.

  14. yael says:

    be still, my heart.

  15. Miss M says:

I would love to see Keanu and Sandra together.

  16. Azurea says:

    Yay, Keanu!

  17. marie says:

He’s that actor for me who mo matter what he does I will love it and defend it to the bitter end. Man of tai chi is an amazing movie, far too little keanu, but one of the best movies I’ve seen with him in it.

  18. lenje says:

The Reddit AMA cracks me up, not only from Keanu’s answers (which look like unintentionally funny), but also from the hilarious responses. If that’s actually how he converses with other people, I don’t think anyone will be able to hate him. (And I can see how he and Sandra engage in silly conversations, perhaps with a lot of fart jokes etc.)

  19. Godwina says:

The man can’t act his way out of a teabag, but HI! is he fine, and remains so. I can’t believe he’s 50.

  20. blvdb says:

can’t they just give the role to both, Joaquin and Keanu? That would be my dream cast!

  21. decorative item says:

I’ve always loved him but don’t think about him unless there’s an image or somthing in front of me. Anyway, I had a dream, not two nights ago, that we were getting married, next thing I know theres a giant flying insect chasing me down the street. Odd.

  22. Tig says:

Really, all the current candidates would be fine-the head scratcher is Matthew awrite, awrite, awrite Mc! I wonder if that’s a random joke on someone’s part, or if he’s really interested? That would be interesting press for sure!

  23. Ag says:

    he’s 50? damn.

i am one of those people who think that he’s “not the best actor.” however, i really like him as a person from what i have seen of him. he seems calm, kind, drama-free, and just overall a decent person. and, i mean, the “sad keanu” meme and the way he handled it – gold.

  24. Mom2two says:

I will always love Keanu. I would not object to him being Doctor Strange but the latest rumors seem to be surrounding Ewan McGregor (not a bad choice either).
Keanu just comes across as a geniunely nice guy and I’d rather hear more of Keanu than the likes of Miles Teller.
Forgot to add: His looks are timeless and casting directors have missed the boat not casting him and Noah Wyle in something where they play brothers.

    • misery chick says:

@MOM2TWO-I never thought about Keanu Reeves and Noah Wyle as brothers, but that would be amazing! Especially since they both have that wide-eyed sweet vulnerability thing going on.

My absolute FAVORITE Keanu movie is, and will always be, “Point Break”. Ahhhh, he was so beautiful as a surfer and ‘F-B-I *AGENT!*
That movie was magical, with the waves, sunsets and Patrick Swayze; it was also very funny with Gary Busey, John C McGinley and Keanu’s character learning how to surf 🏄.

      YAAAASSSSSS! SIGH. YUMMMMM…

  25. Arya Martell says:

You know for Doctor Strange…he’s not a terrible choice. Better than Joaquin Phoenix and Ethan Hawke for sure. He’s not the best actor in the world but I think he’d be a good fit for Strange.

  26. joy says:

My husband calls him the male KStew but I don’t think he’s that bad.

  27. Rachel Christie says:

I’ve always adored Keanu Reeves. I can hardly wait to see his newest movie, John Wick later this month. I’m attracted to his seemingly Zen like persona and mystery. I also luv his hands ;p

  28. Leah says:

He looks amazing!! He is putting all the 50 year old former men in hollywood to shame. He looks 15 years younger than the likes of Depp, Pitt, Clooney, Cruise

  29. Nanea says:

20 years after Speed and 15 after Matrix, Keanu is still my guilty pleasure/favorite eyekandy.

And I’m looking forward to John Wick, which has, as of now, a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

  30. may23 says:

Hey, non-native English speaker here! I know what “shipping someone” means but how did it start? Why “shipping”? Anyone?

    • Tig says:

I’ll try- “shipping” is shorthand for “worshipping”- tho not in the literal sense. Loosely means you like/favor a person or couple. At least that was how it was explained to me.

      • delorb says:

Its short for relationSHIP. As in putting two people into a relationSHIP, who might otherwise not be in a relationSHIP. For example, two brothers on a show (probably) wouldn’t be lovers, but fans can relationSHIP them together for all their worth.

      • Maria says:

Ah, I was wondering what the heck that turn of phrase meant too.
        Thanks.

  31. Zvonk says:

In all fairness, if you don’t move any facial muscles, your skin will age at a slower rate. Keanu’s static acting has never put a strain on any of his facial muscles. Hey presto! He looks young.

    • FLORC says:

But in all fairness he isn’t filming 24/7. He laughs and shows emotion. Guy is just aging better than most.

  32. Assila says:

Thank you for the post Kaiser, very much appreciated. As for his “hotter looks” i think it’s because he is more focused on work lately (and we know since the Matrix training how dedicated he can be)….when not working he has a tendency to let himself go (alcohol is his drug of choice i think- even if he doesn’t get in trouble since his dui a looooong time ago). anyway, he seems to be on track to come back in full force. Yay!!!!

  33. vero says:

he is part lebanese..they all are, freaking beutiful nation

    • delorb says:

No he’s not. He’s an American born in Lebanon, to an American father and English mother. The family lived in Australia for a time, then moved to NYC, then finally to Canada, where he spent the better part of his youth. I believe he chose to be Canadian, even though neither parent is Canadian and he wasn’t born there.

      • K says:

His father is part Hawaiian and part Chinese, ethnically speaking. So it’s true he’s of mixed ethnicity, even if not Lebanese.

I remember that when there was a fuss about 47 Ronin and it was quietly pointed out that while he wasn’t Japanese, he’s certainly mixed race.

  34. Pat says:

if you only think that guys like Sean Penn (54 looking like 64) Brad Pitt (50) Clooney (52) are aroung the same age as Keanu….kudos!

  35. Olenna says:

My Neo…he really doesn’t have much range as an actor, but I love him to pieces. I’ll watch whatever he’s in, good or bad.

  36. jferber says:

I don’t agree that he can’t act. I used to believe that, but now I’ve changed my mind. He is a gentleman through and through and I’ve developed a serious crush on him (as well as Clive Owen, who’s also 50). Keanu was great in 47 Ronin and Thumbsucker. His acting is subtle, I’d say. Oh, hell yeah, I’ve got a crush on him.

  37. venus velvet says:

He is a class act. I used to be underwhelmed, but his low-key charm has grown on me over the years. He showed a disarming fondness for exclamation points in the AMA, I could hear the enthusiasm in his responses.

  38. L says:

    Dumb as a door nail.

  39. Maria says:

I first heard about the Dr. Strange possibility for Keanu in a blog/review for John Wick. The writer said that he was GOOD in his new film and threw it out there that he might be Marvel’s answer for this unending Dr. Strange search. I’m Team Keanu all the way. Fellow Dragon and I were born the same year, so go, Keanu. He may surprise all the naysayers yet.

  40. K says:

I love Keanu. I can’t help feeling vaguely suspicious of anyone who dislikes him.

  41. lolo says:

I have seen a lot of his movies and was really impressed my favourite one being the Devil’s Advocate. I never get to understand the people who claim that he cannot act its ridiculous considering his impressive resume with regards to movies and the fact that he normally goes for less commercial movies is impressive, this means he does not crave for attention. Clearly he is not a sell-out, and people call him untalented just pathetic. Just because he is never seen in tabloids and does not date these young Hollyweird starlets does not make him less interesting. He is seems very caring, loving, genuine and very shy.

He seemed to have found a good formula of how to succeed and still be private which is very rare in their industry. I find him more credible than stupid Brad Pitt, corny George Clooney, idiotic Tom Cruise and fake wannabe European Johnny Depp. Anyway, he is too rich to be acting a fool being worth over 350 mill of dollars is no joke. A man of his qualities needs to have a good woman by his side and children so that he can pass those qualities to them.
