Halle Berry’s advice to keep the girls perky: ‘Always wear a bra, even to bed’

wenn21834186

Halle Berry has some diverse side projects, most of which I don’t keep up with. Sorry! I know she has a perfume line, and now I know she’s relaunching an older lingerie line, Scandale Paris. Halle gave an interview to Yahoo about her takeover of the 82-year-old lingerie line – apparently, she’s going to make it more affordable, but the bras and panties are still going to be good-quality. In this interview, she talks a lot about what her “French husband” Olivier Martinez taught her about dressing, plus some boob advice.

How her French husband changed her: “I have definitely changed as a result of being married to a French husband. French women would not put their sweats on and run out to the market. So I care more about what I wear out of the house, because if not, he calls me out on it. [French women] put a lot of energy into their outerwear, but also their underwear. They’re not going to get caught in an emergency room without being prepared.”

Her mother’s boob advice: “She said if I don’t want my boobs to hit my knees by the time I’m 30, always wear a bra, even to bed.”

She’s not using her sex symbol image to move bras: “I don’t think I’m using my sex symbol image, if that’s what you want to call it, to sell the line. I’m not the model, so no I’m not trying to use that part of me at all.”

Aging in Hollywood: “I think both actors and actresses face this. It’s not just women. As an actor you face having to age and redefine yourself. The roles you were able to play before, you can’t play anymore. So you have to adapt and play a different role. And as actresses, we need to accept that we’re not always going to be the sexy ingenue, but hopefully we get better with age.”

Whether Nahla has seen her movies: “She hasn’t seen any of my movies, so she doesn’t quite understand what I do for a living. The beauty of our lifestyle is my daughter doesn’t see me as any different than anyone else. I try very hard to be like other mothers.”

Gossip about her private life: “I’ve learned that I can’t care about what people say about me because caring is too stressful and too hurtful,” she says. “It’s all just fodder and nonsense,” before reconsidering that her new role as an executive might mean that ugly incidents like a 2012 fight between Martinez and Aubry might affect her bottom line. “It can start to matter and affect you when you think about being a brand. People want know that they can trust you. But I’m happy to say none of the negative things that come from those people hiding behind their computers — I call them the haters — have permeated me through my career.”

[From Yahoo]

I think it’s extremely cold to basically say that your husband isn’t going to physically assault your ex-boyfriend anymore because it will affect your business. Like, if Halle wasn’t trying to make herself into a household “brand,” then sh-t would still be going down with her custodial arrangement with Gabriel Aubry. That’s what she’s saying. I suppose that makes me a HATER.

As for the boob advice… I’ve heard that before. I feel like a lot of women of a certain age were told to do that, to wear a bra at all times, even while you’re sleeping. I HATE sleeping in bras, so that’s probably why my boobs don’t look as good as Halle’s.

    No thanks.

    • Snazzy says:

ugh exactly! I’d rather be comfortable when I sleep and let my girls roam free thank you very much !

      • Lis says:

I regularly curse whomever invented damn uncomfortable bras …

      • Stef Leppard says:

I think (hope) that people who sleep in bras wear sleep bras, which are like comfy sports bras. I can’t imagine wearing an underwire bra to bed. I wear sleep bras when pregnant and nursing.

      • riemc526 says:

I swear I remember her saying this on Oprah years ago.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Same. I’m 58 and my breasts are still fine, thank you. I didn’t have children, and I think that makes a difference, but I wouldn’t dream of sleeping in a bra. Good grief, you’re really going to make that a priority in life, over being comfortable when you sleep? How shallow can you get?

      • Lucinda says:

Mine started sagging with pregnancy and nursing and since I was 30 when I had my first kid, I can confidently say that not wearing a bra to bed did not affect them at all. It’s nonsense advice.

      • Diana B says:

I sleep more comfortably with a bra on. Even a wire one. I have generous breasts and it hurts not to wear anything. I think this, as it happens with waxing down there or shaving, are a matter of personal preference.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, Diana, you are right. Of course if you feel more comfortable, you should wear one. I shouldn’t have phrased that in such a judgy McJudgy way.

      • Birdix says:

sigh. a good reminder to get a mammogram. I have hundreds of cysts, they always start with the mammogram, then move to the ultrasound. Breast specialist says there’s a 50/50 chance that menopause will bring relief from the cysts. Nothing else (avoiding caffeine, going braless, etc) helps at all, although evening primrose oil makes them less painful.

      • Diana B says:

Oh, Goodnames I didn’t think you were rude or McJudgy at all, just thought I’d share a different approach to the subject.

      • Yup, Me says:

Wouldn’t it be awesome if someone said “My advice for keeping your breast beautiful? Don’t have kids. That is also my advice for how to travel, sleep in regularly, and spend your life doing what you want to do.”

    • Zigggy says:

Yep, I’d rather be saggy! Tyra Banks also said this years ago on Oprah I think.

      • BabyCakes says:

I don’t ever hate on beautiful women. I can appreciate a gorgeous woman. Halle is beautiful and I hope on can look as good as she does at her age. I like pointing out the obvious though. Halle has implants. In Extant the running scenes she did, her girls looked like baseballs in a tube sock. Anyone watch or notice this? So idk what she means. Without a bra her girls don’t look like she’s been taking her own advice. I think that question was a complete troll.

      • Pandy says:

Agree Babycakes. It’s not the bra, it’s the surgeon and silicone.

      • Betty says:

@BabyCakes I watched “Extant” this summer and I never noticed that. If she has implants, she must have had them for a long time because her bustline has looked the same for quite a while. She revealed her breasts in Swordfish and flaunted them when she was a Bond girl. I have no memories of her not being busty, and I’ve been aware of her since the “Boomerang”/”Jungle Fever” era in the early ’90s.

    • Wren says:

No kidding. I wear the most comfortable glorified sports bras I can find and they STILL have to come off the second I’m home for the day. I can’t imagine sleeping in a bra regularly. Stupid boob prisons.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Lol. I remember my first bra. I just looked at my mother like, “are you kidding me?!?” I wear them during the day, but I’m not sleeping in them even if i start tripping over my breasts.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

I have to take the bra off, the chest compression kills me, my boobs are too big but I just can’t have my chest constricted 24/7.

  2. It is what it is says:

I’d like to make a health note here. Wearing bras, especially if they’re too tight, is known to cause cysts in women’s breasts. A close friend of mine had cysts develop in her breasts and her doctor was worried it would develop into a tumor (thankfully it didn’t and just went away). She now wears bras much less frequently, instead wearing more layers, and has been cyst free for over a year. So wearing bras 24/7 is probably a terrible idea. And didn’t Halle get a boob job/lift?

Also when I went to France I noticed how many of the women didn’t wear bras. Maybe that’s just me though.

    • Tifygodess24 says:

Can you source this? Never heard of such a thing, so it would be interesting to see. Some women just have breasts that are more prone to cysts then anothers.

      • It is what it is says:

Sure, this is what I found just with a google search, where breast pain (cyst, bra induced or not) is linked to cancer

        http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/dont-burn-your-bra-just-yet-622008.html

      • Tifygodess24 says:

        Thanks! 😊

      • Erinn says:

However, contrary to what was reported, the study, which was commissioned by Channel 4’s Dispatches programme, found no link between bras and cancer. What it did show, however, was that women with breast cysts tended to feel less pain if they went bra-free. — right in that source.

      • Anna says:

That study also states that breast cysts are linked to cancer. I have many cysts, and have done much research, as well as spoke to a specialist who all stated that breast cysts are not linked to cancer.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I have cystic breasts, and I also had breast cancer. My oncologist told me they were not related. Most cysts are totally harmless. I’ve had some drained because they were so large they caused discomfort.

BUT, my cysts did cause a potential problem, or benefit, depending on how you look at it. My breast cancer tumor was hidden behind a cyst, so it didn’t show up on my mammogram. Luckily, my doctor ordered a sonogram just to take a closer look at my cysts (I had 7) and they found the cancer. So, cysts can complicate things, and shouldn’t be ignored, but I do not believe they cause cancer.

      • Cheryl says:

I’ve heard it speculated that constant bra wearing presses on important lymph nodes and is related to increased breast cancer risk. Also speculation: the chemical soup that these things are made of in factories in China isn’t so healthy to have on skin 100% of time.

No citations. Just food for thought.

      • Lucinda says:

Anna’s quote points out there is no correlation between wearing bras and cancer. Since cysts can cause cancer the logical assumption then is that there is no correlation between wearing bras and developing cysts (or at least cancerous cysts). However, this is a correlation to increased cyst pain when wearing a bra. So it seems to me it’s easy for people to confuse increased pain with the bra causing cysts when all the bra is doing is making the cyst more painful.

I have read a few articles debunking the myth that wearing bras can lead to cancer. I’m too lazy to cite. But I will if people insist.

      • Tessy says:

There is a book called “Dressed To Kill: The Link between Breast Cancer and Bras”. To me it stands to reason that if you are constantly compressing and pinching delicate breast tissue there could eventually be problems. There are many who say that it doesn’t hurt anything just as there are many who have reasons to make women think that way. In our society whoever has the most money has the loudest voice. As with everything, its better to use our common sense.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Tessy, people used to believe that breast cancer was caused by a blow to the breast. That’s an old wives’ tale, as is the logic that compressing “delicate tissue” (which is largely fat) causes cancer.

    • swack says:

My grandmother had many cysts in her breasts and they believed it came from binding them. Not sure why she nodded them, but believe in the 20’s it was the thing to do.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, it’s funny that they all wanted to be flat chested flappers then and large breasts were “out of style.”

      • LadyJane says:

No so out of tune with todays fashion – we still want women to look like prepubescent boys – no hips, skinny legs and arms – but with bolt-on boobies.

    • Betty says:

I really don’t understand all of the worship of French women. I’ve traveled to various European cities and I’ve encountered French women in the States as well, and they never stood out to me as more stylish than anyone else. The European women I saw who were all dressed to the nines were Italians. I’d say the Italian men were also dressed very well. I was in Rome, Milan and Venice.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I have certainly seen many French women who had a kind of effortless chic that had nothing to do with how much money they spent on their clothes, but it’s like any other generalization – there are plenty of people who don’t fit it.

    • Isabelle says:

As a nurse, where are your legitimate sources? There should be more than one medical source & widely studied. The cancer society has listed it as one of their myths. We’ve been trained that it’s a myth rather than a fact. Considering millions of women wear bras, that number should be a very high rate of women having cysts, by that logic most women should have cysts versus not having them. Correlation isn’t causation.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

It’s a myth, no sensible woman buys it, don’t fret nurse Isabella, most of us listen to our doctors (and the cancer society) not trolls on the interwebs.

  3. ellli says:

Hallie’s boobs look good because she can afford surgery

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

Exactly, I always suspected that she had implants, and we all know no matter how large, implants tend to defy gravity.

Another scheme to play on woman’s insecurities.

    • Alexis says:

I agree that Halle almost certainly has implants, but implants will sag if not taken care of. The implants themselves are fake, but they are covered with real skin and are subject to gravity. Look at Lindsay Lohan.

    • Isabelle says:

      Yes!!!!!

  4. Someonestolemyname says:

She must have forgot she had implants too, which she did, in her 20’s.

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

Thank you, I always suspected that she had implants because she wasn’t so ample when she made “Boomerang” and women don’t suddenly develop breasts later on in life.

    • starrywonder says:

Thank you since I was about to post that. She had a boob job. I also didn’t like the whole my French husband calls me out on what I am wearing before I leave the house. WTH.

  5. kibbles says:

I believe she has had breast implants. I don’t believe that the only thing that she has used to make them stay perky is wearing a bra to bed. She is aging very well, which is common for women of color, but she has also had a bit of help in the plastic surgery department. She has a really good surgeon who has made her look fairly natural.

    • wolfpup says:

When my surgeon wanted to redo my implants, he also wanted to perform a lift. Instead, I had him remove the implants and I am free! It’s really so nice not to have them.

I got them done because of my husbands urging after our third child. He liked them; whatever… Even though you get used to them, they still feel unnatural when one is trying to get comfortable for sleep. But I think that all boobs need a lift, if one cares about looking like a younger woman. I like being my age, and I love having my own body.

  6. We Are All Made of Stars says:

Halle has fake tatters. Don’t those stay up all by themselves unless they are too big or you get old enough that stuff might naturally become more elastic anyway? I know people who believe in this bras make your boobs not sag stuff and until I met them I always thought it was basically an “old wive’s tale.” Am I wrong?

Personally I think if you’re less than a C they will deflate before they go south. There’s just not enough there.

    • Dana says:

Fake boobs still sag (they’re heavier than real ones) they’ll just look less deflated.

    • V4Real says:

I’m no Halle apologist or even a huge fan but Halle has always had ample boobs. Just Google old pics of her when she was just a beauty queen girl before she got into the business. Now I’m not saying she hasn’t had any work done once she made it big but the girl had natural big boobs and if you saw Swordfish you will see that those were her natural boobs. Her nose however had some work done to it. She, like AJ had a very subtle nose job.

      • Gina says:

Yeah she did. As a Clevelander, we know all things Halle and I’ve seen many a photo of her “original” nose. Not an issue, all Hollywood girls seem to do something them deem necessary to make them a vision to behold.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

oh no,…no more health advice from celebs. Haha

Yup definate boobie job and subtle nose work, well done, but regardless she was always a beauty.

She is ageing well, looks fantastic.

  7. Daisyduck says:

My (amazing, German) plastic surgeon (I had a boob reduction recently) told me that recently there has been some groundbreaking research into this matter, and the conclusion was that it doesn’t matter how often you wear a bra or not, it doesn’t make a stitch of a difference – as with most things, it’s based on a whole lot of other factors and genetics.

    • OriginalTessa says:

If you look at it from a physics standpoint, I’m not sure your doctor can say that. It’s simple science, nothing complicated. Gravity is pulling your boobs towards the earth, stretching the skin, dragging them downward. A bra is resisting that force of gravity, keeping the skin from pulling downward. It makes sense.

      • Jessica says:

Our bodies don’t really work like that. Some people’s skin never really sags. They’ll get plenty of wrinkles eventually, but everything pretty much stays where it started. Other people will look all droopy at 21. It’s mostly about genetics. You see it in a fast-tracked way with women who’ve had children. Some women’s stomach skin will bounce right back even after multiple pregnancies, others will always have a load of loose skin. It’s just a bit of a lottery.

      • OriginalTessa says:

The principles of gravity apply to everything, including our bodies. We’re being pulled toward the Earth, everything is pulling downward. A force resisting that pull is going to lessen the effect. That fact can’t be refuted.
But to your point, yes I would agree that genetics plays the biggest role, and that the actual effect of a bra against gravity may be negligible in comparison to genetics. Your skin and muscle is going to behave the way your genes want them to, and there’s not a whole lot you can do about it.

      • Leen says:

The best way to ensure your boobs won’t sag is to do lots of pectoral muscle training. Honestly it’s one of the few reliable things.

      • Jay says:

It’s not about the skin sagging so much as the ligaments that hold your breasts up. According to my human sexuality professor, wearing a bra relieves those ligaments of having to support the girls, hence less sagging over time.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

Boob sagging has to do with skin changes much more than gravity. Yes, gravity is a constant force but the loss of elasticity in our skin is what causes us to bag and sag from youth to maturity. Bras or not, we all sag in the end because our skin ages.

    • GiGi says:

It’s true – I read a study that found that NOT wearing a bra was actually better when it came to sag, lol!

      • Mel M says:

I heard the same thing. Something about the muscles not getting lazy sitting in a bra all of the time.

      • Jay says:

Not true. Sagging is due to ligaments stretching from supporting the weight of your breasts. Bras give the ligaments less to support, so you’ll sag less over time. Simple as that.

      • Isabelle says:

The women in the study were all under 30, most college age with no children. Yeah, their boobies haven’t met their fate yet. It was a very boxed in study.

    • Lane's mom says:

I agree with your doctor, @Daisy–I’m 50 and have breastfed four children (including a set of twins), and while my breasts don’t look like they did when I was 21, they are in no way deflated or saggy. I wear a bra only when I leave the house; the rest of the time, nothing. My sister, who has never had children, had saggy ones pretty much from the time she got them.

I too believe it’s mostly genetics.

    • Lucinda says:

Oh come now. Don’t be all reasonable!

  8. Tifygodess24 says:

I agree with the bra advice , I’m 34 and I always wear my bra even to bed and after two kids they are still very very “youthful” lol I have also never read anything about there being a negative effect with wearing a bra to bed? That sounds like the type of stuff made by old wives tales. Of course there will be theories either way so I think people should do whatever makes them comfortable 😊I just like that my “girls” always have a helping hand! Lol

    • Hautie says:

I also wear bra’s constantly. But… I have different type of bra’s for different times/reasons. And none of them are under-wires. I hate under-wires.

The ones I wear for daily wear… work and out in public… are the pricey well fitted ones. That I pamper. And never over dry in the clothes dryer.

What I wear around the house and to bed… are sport type bra’s. The ones that are pull over your head. Cotton/Lycra ones. With T backs. Which honestly, are extremely comfortable.

And my 45 year old dd’s look great. I would hate to think how far they would have dropped. If I had just let the old girls swing for my knee’s.

      • Chibichichai says:

Yep when I’m at home, it’s sports bra time. It’s pretty uncomfortable to have DDDs roam free at night. Anyone else have that issue?

      • Wilma says:

Same here. Always wear a bra, but the type of bra changes throughout the day. I feel more comfortable with a good bra. My DD’s still look perky at 35 and hopefully will continue to do so.

      • Diana B says:

@Chibichichai yes mine hurt when not wearing anything so a bra is a necessity.

      • Just Me (and my Bobby McGee) says:

Have been in a bra, except to swim & shower, 24/7 since I grew boobs. I think I could take someone out with mine if I didn’t. Unfortunately, it hasn’t done a lot of good for me. Although, who knows, maybe they’d be further to my knees if I didn’t. I’m DD at my skinny weight. A heck of a lot larger if I gain a few because it’s the first place I gain. Instead of jabber jawing about bra vs no bra, I wish someone would invent a way to take these suckers off from time to time and put them on a shelf or something. I’m sick and tired of carrying them around.

    • Hispania says:

I agree with you. I have an F cup, and I’m actually a lot more comfortable with a bra on than without one, even at night. When I’m bra-less, I eventually feel a sort of “pull” that is very uncomfortable, and you’re so limited in your movements. No running, no jumping, no bouncing down the stairs… otherwise it just hurts. I love my bras 🙂

    • mernymerlyn says:

I wear a sports bra at night too.
The girls flopping around bugged me, lol.

  9. Belle Epoch says:

Medical advice from a celebrity – my favorite thing! She has no idea what she is talking about.

    • JudyK says:

Maybe she can become best friends with Suzanne Somers and Jenny McCarthy and share her medical insights w/ them, but PLEASE leave the rest of us out of it.

      • Someonestolemyname says:

Yes Halle is pretty, but she did have Boob work, she admitted to it a few times in the past, before she became uber famous.
Those boobs are a boob job.

Not all boob jobs sag, Some boob jobs wil sag over time, some won’t it all depends on weight gains and losses, Genetics and skin.

  10. Someonestolemyname says:

Halle had good boobie surgery in her twenties.

  11. Lilacflowers says:

Well that explains a great deal. Halle’s bra is cutting off circulation to her brain, causing her to forget that she had surgical help and probably playing a part in some of her bad film choices as well.

  12. CG says:

Her face looks different in that header pic. Botox/brow lift or just an unflattering center part? Anyway I’m not wearing a bra to bed and my girls are in no way perky but theyre also all-natural DDs so that happens.

  13. lower-case deb says:

always wear your bra, even while getting your bolt-ons their annual maintenance.

  14. smcollins says:

My only take-away from this is that I think Halle looks so much better with longer hair. It really softens her look. I know the short hair is her signature look (which she does pull off really well…a lot of women can’t, myself included), I just prefer it longer. That’s about it. 😉

  15. Ginger says:

I’ve heard the same advice about bras from other ladies. I just hate them so much and take it off as soon as I get home. If someone would (pretty please) invent a comfy home version then I would consider wearing one to bed. The last time I went to the OB/GYN she recommended getting a bra fitting every couple of years as your breasts change over time. That’s who I take my advice from, sorry Halle.

  16. Shauna says:

I wear a bra most of the time. I’m 43 and my boobs are still very perky and not sagging. But I’m not large chested, and I think that helps quite a bit.

    • Etheldreda says:

I’m 45 and I like to think my boobs are still in pretty good shape – and I’m a size 32F!

Then again, I’ve never had children, which I do think makes a big difference. I do always wear a bra during the day – my boobs are too big to go braless. But I never wear one at night. That would seem uncomfortable and maybe even unhygienic.

      • QQ says:

It seems likely that having children would be more of a factor, right?

      • Algernon says:

I think not having kids/not nursing makes a big difference in the perkiness/longevity equation. I know women who have kids but didn’t nurse for more than a few weeks and they have nicer boobs than the women I know who nursed for months.

  17. AM says:

I heard this advice many years ago from Sophia Loren in a Barbara Walters interview. I believe Loren said she slept in two bras and a sports bra.

Since then, I’ve tended to make a point to sleep in a bra (most often just a bralette), and I do think I have less sag than many of my contemporaries. And when I see those young Hollywood starlets who are now hitting their 30s and seemingly never wore a bra in their 20s, I always think, “But you’re too young for your boobs to look like that”.

  18. QQ says:

    A) I LOVE what she is wearing on that first pic

    B) Ive always loved her casual steeze even if it stays on bege/gray and olive…it seems someone “did” her colors, she’s an autum and she keeps it firmly in that color palette for casuals (i have a friend who did mine-i hate em but it’s undeniable that my skin itself looks glowier in the shitty colors!)

    C) I have been an almost-always-by- default bra wearer but i feel as ive gained weight i have a real issue getting sized properly or COMFORTABLE in the bra like I used to? So basically I stopped giving an eff about sparing the public’s decorum and lately Im just going without whenever i feel like it cause things look reasonably cute and sexy up there… My SIL thinks is a matter of Breastfeeding vs not breastfeeding she told me wistfully that she wished she could go there but after 3 kids she is just waiting for a belated push present of a lift and reduction.

    • Kitten says:

She looks unbelievable in that dress. I would kill for her skin.

    • Just Me (and my Bobby McGee) says:

QQ – have you tried Soma Intimates? They wouldn’t even sell me a bra without measuring me, and then making sure my girls were properly supported in the size they brought me to try on. Their panties leave a lot to be desired (#needzmoreelastic), but their bras are incredible. I won’t wear anything else now. They go all the way up to G.

  19. MissBB says:

So she has to watch what she wears or he’ll call her out on it, but he can wear those gawdawful mom pants?
I think short hair suits her better.

  20. rianic says:

I don’t sleep in one (nude sleeper here), but I’ve always worn an underwire (even when there was just two little fried eggs to hold up)

My girls are still amazing at 38! Very perky and firm. I also massage them with lotion though

  21. Grrl says:

French women (myself included) would never dare to wear ‘sweats’ (?) out of the house. Fashion is fun, why not do it whenever you can?

  22. Gina says:

Oh Halle those implants aren’t going nowhere, relax. One of the best moments of the day is to release the harness, kick of the heels and let it be. What does she know anyway, she was named after a department store in my hometown.

  23. Samigirl says:

I’m pretty sure some dude did a study that lasted like 7 years to disprove this. I’m off to use my google degree brb.

    • The Other Katherine says:

Yes, the bra thing is complete malarkey. I’m 40 with a DD cup size, have no sag (I was always flummoxed by the so-called “pencil test,” as I can’t imagine actually having a crevice under my breast that could hold something in place), and have never, ever worn a bra to bed. In fact, I often go braless around the house.

It’s 99.9% genetics, I’m convinced. I’ve never had a child, but my mother breastfed two, and never had noticeable sagging until she was in her 60s. Given that I have a number of genetic strikes against me, I’m pleased to have won in the perky boobs lottery, but I’m not going to pretend that the perky boobs are a reward for anything I’ve done or not done.

  24. Adrien says:

Heard this before from Tyra Banks show. There was an expert on her show conFirming tHis. I believe this is one of those wacky beauty secrets that may hold some truth in it. I mean I ‘m just basing that from people who wear corsets and binders after pregnancy. It has something to do with training the skin. Of course women have to deal with loss of hormones, etc. but maybe wearing a bra forever might soften the impact of gravity.

  25. Miss M says:

The bra advice is spot on! And if you don’t feel comfortable try at least a sports bra.

    • Jessica says:

What types of sports bras are people using? Mine are the most uncomfortable bras I own. Great for stopping bounce, but way too confining to wear when not required.

      • Catriona says:

OMG same here, I don’t know what sports bras are comfortable as even removing the damn sports bras I have is a feat and it is a blessed day when I don’t tangle myself up like a pretzel in the process of removing them after a really sweaty workout!

  26. GeeMoney says:

If you don’t wear a bra, yes… your breasts will sag faster than they would if you did.

And if you are like me, and have had the biggest breasts on planet Earth since you were in middle school (I kid you not), they will sag – regardless.

  27. Bella Bella says:

Her lighter eyebrows really age her.

  28. Kim1 says:

So the interview clearly states her “mom ” says wear a bra to bed, advice from her mom.Yet instead of the headline saying “Halle’s Berry mother says…
Who is to say she follows her mother’s advice but I’m sure she will be called out by CB posters all day.Yet if Viola Davis’ mom had given her the same advice, there would be nothing but love.

    • Aussie girl says:

I’m not getting a lot of hate vibes from these comments. Regardless of the celebrity, most comments are from women’s personal experience with their own boobs. Personally I find it fascinating & am loving all the boob talk 😊

  29. Ella says:

No no no! Wearing a bra can actually disturb your lymphatic drainage (armpits have a ton of lymphatic nods) which then can lead to all sorts of health issues.

It is really good for your health to go bra-free – most of us need them during the day but give your lymphatic system a break during the night at least.

    • Chrissy says:

I heard that too Ella. The same with wearing panties at night. The lymphatic systems are very concentrated in the armpits and groin areas and drainage is important for maintenance of health.

  30. Candy Love says:

Is it me or did Halle do something to her face she looks really odd in that top pictures.

  31. snowflake says:

headline is misleading, it’s her mom’s advice. i could never sleep in a bra

  32. Nene says:

Maybe. But i think perky boobs are genetic and not so much what you do. My mum is in her late 50s and her breast are still quite good and I know for sure that she doesn’t wear bra always or to sleep. My grandma was the same too.
As a small-chested woman I can’t say I know how uncomfortable it’ll be for the well-endowed women to wear underwire to bed, cos even i don’t. Although I make exceptions for very cold nights.

On another note, Halle won the genetic lottery and no not on her boobs but on aging awesomely.
I love the white dress in the top photo.

  33. Jess says:

I have small boobs and hate wearing bras, I avoid it as much as possible! I get very thin sport type bras then stretch them out so they don’t feel tight on my skin. I had perky c’s when I breastfed and I noticed men would just stare at them, made me uncomfortable, hats off to you busty ladies who deal with that daily!

    • Brittney B says:

Thank you. It’s interesting to hear from the perspective of someone who’s used to smaller boobs but had a bout of big-boobed attention. Since I was a freshman in high school, friends have rolled their eyes when I complain, like attracting male attention is the end-all-be-all and it doesn’t matter how much my back hurts or how hard it is to find dresses that fit.

Male attention isn’t even a *perk* in my book, because I spent years trying to figure out which guys were actually interested in me… and trying to feel comfortable when older men couldn’t “help themselves” from staring. It’s hard to feel valued as a human being when even my male friends don’t look me in the eye. It’s not a blessing; far from it. But at least it helps me weed out the animals.

      • Jess says:

Ugh, I’m sorry you have to deal with all that, men can be absolutely ridiculous when it comes to breasts. I understand taking a quick glance, and hell even I do that if a girl has nice cleavage on display, but to just full on stare and practically drool is disgusting, some of them need to learn self control and be more respectful.

I used to hate hearing my big boobed friends complain as well, and it was more of a jealousy thing for me, but now I get it!

  34. Algernon says:

Push-ups! Do push-ups, every day! I’ve always had big boobs but since my trainer started me doing sets of push-ups as part of my regular workout, the girls look ***great***. Also upper body strengthening seems to help. Our boobs are supported by a network of muscles. Firm the muscles, firm the boobs.

  35. Brittney B says:

I’ve got DDs that started getting saggy about a DAY after they grew in (when I was fourteen, ugh). I wear a bra to bed every night because it’s uncomfortable (physically and mentally) when I *don’t* have one on. But I really doubt it’s done anything to keep them “perky” (impossible), unless they’re supposed to look even worse than they already do.

I’ve also heard that if a bra is uncomfortable, you’re wearing the wrong size. My mom was someone who had to whip it off as soon as she got home because the underwire and straps were so uncomfortable… but in her 40s she finally got fitted and found her real size, and it doesn’t bother her anymore. I don’t think women should HAVE to wear bras, period, but all of you who think they’re SO uncomfortable that you couldn’t possibly sleep in one? Maybe you need to take some measurements and see if you need a different cup or band size.

    • noway says:

I’ve been a DDD since I was 15 and I am now in my late 40’s, and everything I have ever seen says this wear a bra to bed stuff is bs and not scientifically proven. Even if you go by the physics part which some are mentioning it doesn’t make since because unless you are sleeping standing up the physics for most girls doesn’t come into play. If you are large then the physics are always in play and to be honest there really isn’t much that would stop the ligaments.

Good news is I don’t think mine have really changed dramatically in the years. Gravity always brought them down a bit to begin with and not much more even with a kid and years have they fallen. As far as the bra fit goes it isn’t just size when you are big, it is cut, same with clothes as any large busted woman knows. You have to try on ones that work with your proportions. As opposed to smaller breasted friends it can be challenging to find the right ones. Also, the size changes a bit over the years even if you don’t change in weight or have a baby. Always good to get refit periodically, and it is great to have a good fitting bra makes you walk taller as every large breasted woman I know generally slumps a bit because after you get over the attention the breasts get you generally try to ignore them.

  36. TOPgirl says:

I don’t know anyone who wears their bra to bed. If they do, it always ends up coming off becuz it is so very uncomfortable to have something squeezing your chest.

  37. Jeff Feingold says:

This has got to be one of the silliest things I’ve read. I thought this was an Onion article at first.

People should really read this article on the topic. it’s hard to say who’s more desperate, the garment industry or Halle Berry.

    http://www.killerculture.com/its-about-women-not-breasts/

  38. maddelina says:

    I agree with Halle.

  39. word says:

I actually saw a news story the other day where a doctor said that wearing a bra doesn’t prevent your boobs from sagging. In fact, not wearing a bra forces your breast muscle to have to work harder to keep them up and studies have shown women who don’t wear bras often have perkier breasts than women who wear bras all the time. The bra is doing all the work and your breast muscles become lazy. I’m sorry but as soon as I get home (and I know I won’t be bothered for the rest of the night) I take my bra off…no way would I ever sleep in one !

    • Mel says:

      Exactly, Word!
Sorry, I didn’t read your comment before posting, but that is my experience exactly.

  40. Mel says:

I can’t believe she really means that.
I am older than she, and my “girls” (average size) are as perky and buoyant as ever.
I never ever wear a bra.

(And, not that it matters, but I have science on my side. There was a French study some ten years ago that clearly showed that a group of women athletes’ breasts become FIRMER after a period of not wearing a bra.)

  41. KMac says:

didn’t she have a boob job a long time ago?

  42. G says:

Girl please your boobs aren’t even real. I thought wearing bras to bed led to fibroids?

  43. Candice says:

While I agree with those who say her breasts look fake how did she breast feed with
@&$&@”? My phone won’t let me type the word!!

  44. Vvvoid says:

I had dd breasts, d’s, and now a 36c (weight loss I think) and no matter what I always wear a bra. It’s uncomfortable not to, except a little less so with c cups. Whenever I don’t have a bra in all I can think of are those ligaments getting destroyed with every jiggle and bounce, lol. I agree with Halle for once. My mom told me the same thing and she was.a tiny little thing with huge knockers that defied gravity well into 60, they began sagging once she stopped bothering to wear a bra to bed, like clockwork

  45. Nikki Girl says:

I highly doubt there is a shred of any evidence that proves your boobs will sag less if you wear a bra to sleep. Total garbage, but whatever floats her boat I guess.

  46. Catriona says:

She’s kidding, right? Look no hate but even before when she was in her late twenties, she had quite a pair of lopsided boobs.

  47. SillySimone says:

That shipped sailed for my girls the moment I had my child. I could wear a fork lift to bed and it would not help the girls out.

  48. Jag says:

It does work! I have to argue with doctors who haven’t examined me that my 45 year old breasts aren’t the typical for my age range. I am in a bra 24/7, unless there’s a reason not to be.

As for her lingerie line, they would have to be amazing bras for me to consider buying something promoted by Halle Barry. Yes, I’m a HATER.

  49. maggie says:

After menopause your skin loses it’s elasticity so if you have big boobs they’re heading south.

  50. girlnbayou says:

My 72 year old grandmother always wore a bra to bed and recited the same advice. And I swear the had the most perfect set of teardrop shaped tits any 25 year old stripper would envy. I grew up thinking all boobs looked like that, sad to say mine don’t. Of course I didn’t subscribe to her advice until it was too late.

  51. Cupcake says:

I love wearing a bra to bed! Keeps the girls tucked in all night!

The comments should be categorized into those who have had kids and nursed and those who have not – those are two entirely different boob trajectories!

  52. Isadora says:

“I have definitely changed as a result of being married to a French husband. French women would not put their sweats on and run out to the market. So I care more about what I wear out of the house, because if not, he calls me out on it. [French women] put a lot of energy into their outerwear, but also their underwear. They’re not going to get caught in an emergency room without being prepared.”

So many comments and nobody remarked on that?? She changed the way she dresses because of her husband? Because otherwise he calls her out on it??? Way to go! We’ve got a real feminist here!

And when I’m in an ER the least of my thoughts is if I live up to my husband’s ideal of a French fashionable wife. I mean, is she really going to think about her clothes when she is rushed into hospital? “Never mind the heart attack, at least my panties are sexy.” Sure….

  53. KillJoy0 says:

She has Breast Implants! So, I’m pretty sure that keeps her tits nice and perky. What a croc!

  54. thedarklady says:

Re the bra thing: I was surprised to notice in photos/tv footage that many tribal women in South America and Africa who go topless have saggy breasts.
Also side-eyeing her ‘my husband likes/tells me to’ comment.

  55. Dorky says:

Y’all, it’s simple: she’s trying to sell bras. DUH.
