Kim Kardashian shows off the Birkin bag that North West ‘painted’: cute?

FFN_Kardashian_West_FF2_FF0_111014_51580944

Last Christmas, Kanye West gave Kim Kardashian a very special personalized Christmas present. He had his friend and artist George Condo “paint” an obscene design onto a Birkin bag. Kim proudly posted a photo of the bag on the Instagram, and then she used the bag during a post-holiday outing with Kanye. And she’s never used the bag again. It’s kind of funny. I mean, it was a thoughtful gift, but the “painting” was like a nude hellscape and I don’t blame Kim for never using that bag.

So, for Kim’s birthday this year, Kanye decided to go with the same general idea. Except that he didn’t go for an artist to hand-paint a Birkin. Instead, he gave North West some paint and had her “design” another Birkin. Kim never posted any photos of the North-designed bag, although Kim did confirm the gift in an interview. But now she’s stepped out with Kanye, and of course she’s carrying the Birkin that North “designed.” And you know what? It’s actually WAY better than I was expecting. It doesn’t looks, like, classy and sophisticated or anything like that. But it’s cute and it’s a nice, overpriced token from Kanye and North. North really is The New Emily Dickinson.

Hahahaha, they have more money than sense.

I mean, it’s cute that Nori painted it, and actually her artwork is very adorable/pretty: but there’s a place for your kid’s paintings…

But I guess it’s their money, so whatever.

When I was a kid me and my sister handpainted a t-shirt for my mother and she wore ir for years, even being an horrendous t-shirt. I guess moms like those things.

      • Miffy says:

I would wear the ever loving hell out of a hand painted item by my kids! Yes, us moms love that stuff. I really want to steal your tshirt idea. That’s adorable!

      • Moonfire says:

Miffy, same hereI my son is five, and VERY into painting. I converted our entire sunroom into a painting area and always have paper & paint available to use, any time he likes ;). I absolutely treasure when he paints us in a picture together, always both with big smiles – and usually riding a train;).

Recently I was absolutely exhausted from a long week at work, and asked my son to let me sleep in a while on Saturday. I said as long as he stayed in our house or fenced back yard it was OK.

An hour later, my son woke me up, ECSTATIC about…something and saying “Mommy, come look! Come see what I made for you!” and…there was fluorescent paint all over his hands.

Well, he’d made a half-dozen enormous (about 18×24, some larger) hand-print paintings, in a variety of different fluorescent colors. 10+ separate hand prints on each page. They are awesome!! He’s never even seen a Warhol image, after all.

He then happily demonstrated his technique: pour paint in a small container (we have plastic muffin tins for this purpose), paint his hand with a brush, press hand on paper. and repeat. He even had paper towels to wipe his hands on when he was switching colors.

I have my 2 favorite of that day’s hand paintings hanging in my room; that makes him so proud and it makes ME so happy thinking of how compassionate he was that morning, letting me sleep and creating something special to surprise me with, all on his own. He’s an awesome kid:).

Next time, yeah – I think I’ll set us up with some plain tote bags and t-shirts & acrylic paints (Painting with acrylics must be supervised!) and make wearable art. I need some new grocery bags…;)

Btw glow powder pigment, or pearl-ex, or even glitter mixed into a clear top coat can really liven things up;).

    • MariPoodle says:

It has COLOR on it! Red! Yellow! Blue! OMG! it’s not black/white/grey.

    • Mia V. says:

@Miffy Steal it and have lots of fun!!!!!

  2. Asha says:

The bag is horrendous, so I think North actually improved it. It’s cute. Probably the first time a Karkakian has worn anything cute.

    • TX says:

Agree. He should have had North paint on a bag similar to the one he got for xmas. That bag itself is awful. I really like the idea in theory, though!

  3. paola says:

MMh seems like Kanye got insipration from Angie’s wedding gown.
I actually find that bag really cute what I don’t like is the person carrying it around.

  4. PunkyMomma says:

I just can’t with these two hustlers.

  5. Amy says:

I hear Kanye is looking into buying the Mona Lisa so North can decorate it and give it to Kim as this year’s Christmas gift.

  6. Sullivan says:

It’s cute in a ‘let’s put it on the fridge’ kind of way. They’re so ostentatious.

  7. Caitlinsmommy says:

Not a birken. It’s Hermes, yes. But it’s the herbag. It’s a leather top with interchangeable canvas bodies.

  8. SypherMomma says:

Awww I think it’s a sweet idea, I would proudly carry a purse my child painted for me. Can’t hate on them for this.

  9. Cali says:

I don’t think for a minute that North really painted that. Sure they might have painted her hand to do the print in the middle and she might have done a few of the finger tip type marks but it – but it looks way too “staged/designed” to be done by a ONE year old.

    • Sullivan says:

Well, now that you mention it… Kanye does seem control-freaky enough to *guide* North in her artistic endeavors.

    • Ana says:

      Exactly what I was thinking.

    • swack says:

I thought the same. She may have done some of it (like on the leather) but doubt she had the attention span to do the whole thing (she was only about 15 months and their attention span is next to nothing) especially the sides where it’s indented. I like the hand-print touch.

    • Candy Love says:

I think North did it with a little help from Kanye. Like he dip her hand in paint and pressed it on the bag and help her out holding the brush like most parents would do to keep thier kid from eating the paint it’s still cute though.

Now the conspiracy theorist in me wants to know why Kim hasn’t shown the video? She made public everything else in her life why not post the video of a North painting the bag?

    • Falkor says:

I was thinking that as well. The flow of the paint strokes looks too controlled for it to be done solo by a baby with limited motor control. I guess it could be because North is without a doubt the next Picasso, Michelangelo, and Monet all rolled into one.

      • becki says:

Yep, I have kids and they’ve made me “artwork” I think the bag looks too well done to have been done by North herself!! Maybe Kanye helped, but I don’t know. It’s a sweet gesture.

    • jwoolman says:

Yeah, I have my doubts that it was actually a Nori Original. Maybe the handprint was made from her hand but possibly not at the time Kim claimed. That would explain the lack of an immediate Instagram post of the bag and the video she claimed to watch with Nori painting it herself, when Kim puts everything on Instagram.

With anybody else, I never would question the story. But Kim lies as naturally as breathing and she is quite capable of making up the whole story, then under “show us!” pressure from fans getting a bag painted to imitate a baby’s fingerpainting with possibly a real handprint from the kid. Nobody else would lie about such a thing, no reason to do so. But Kim doesn’t need a reason, she just does it. She seems to think Nori stories make her sound like an involved parent, even when the stories are so developmentally impossible that it just proves she knows very little about the munchkin. Other people are full of real stories about their baby, especially their first one. They don’t need to invent anything.

  10. lisa2 says:

I like the paint splatter on the bottom of the bag.. just not on the leather parts.

People have their children’s art work all over. Nothing wrong with that. It is her purse and her money. Whatever.

I’m not a kim fan or hater..

those bag are to expensive anyway. Maybe this puts it all in perspective.

    • Deb says:

Kanye could have detached the canvas bottom (the Herbag has interchangeable canvas bodies) and let Nori paint that without getting paint on the leather.

      • KC says:

^THIS. Seriously, I LOVE the colors and design (minus the handprint but I love the big blob of that color there so it works). However, the splotches on the leather almost ruin it, I wish he’d had her just do the canvas portion. I would totally buy a bag with that random and colorful design but….I’m no artist and also a Kindergarten teacher so perhaps that kind of thing appeals to me. I LOVE it (minus the paint on the leather) and would rock it.

    • Anony says:

I was just going to say, if it was just on the white part it would look really good. But the fact that it’s on the brown leather as well just naked it look like a ruined purse.

  11. Chrissy says:

What a stupendous waste of money! Couldn’t he have had North just paint on paper ? But then they couldn’t display the idiocy of having her deface an expensive bag. SMH. I just can’t stand the sheer ostentation of these morally bankrupt fools…. Can’t wait till karma hits them all.

    • Hawkeye says:

      I totally agree.

    • Falkor says:

I don’t believe in karma personally, but I do believe their stupidity will catch up with them. And o’ the schadenfreude will be god-tier. The only one I feel bad for is North. You just know that K+K think they can ride this train forever and have absolutely no plan b. It is very, very likely there’s no light in the form of a college fund for North at the end of this fame tunnel.

      • word says:

I personally think Kim and Kanye really believe they will have large amounts of money rolling in for the rest of their lives as they plan on being “famous forever”. They are not good with money…and that’s a HUGE problem in a marriage. One person needs to be level headed. Their fame will not last forever. Oh well, I’m sure Kim’s next husband will be richer than Kanye anyways.

      • FingerBinger says:

How are they not good with money? They do live an extravagant lifestyle ,but I don’t get the impression that they’re spending more money than they’re making.

      • word says:

        @ FingerBinger

I saw an episode of Kim’s show where she said she’s bad with money and spends too much. In that episode she had to get a stern warning from her accountant or something (yes I know their show is fake but why put out a bad image of yourself then?) Kim has said in interviews she’s not good with money and has a shopping addiction. The way these two spend money, you’d think they had Bill Gates type of money…but they don’t. Kim wanted to buy Avril Lavigne’s old house which was on the market for some million (I can’t remember but it wasn’t a ridiculous number like 50 mill or something). She said she wanted Kris Humprhies to help her pay for it as she couldn’t afford it alone. I do think Kim believes she’ll never have to worry about money and somehow it will always be rolling in. She is delusional about that.

      • Bella says:

Cause and effect (aka karma) is a natural law, like gravity, that does not require “belief” to exist. I feel some pity for those who are so rich, all they have is money.

      • Falkor says:

        @Bella
Karma according to the dictionary definition is the force generated by a person’s actions held in Hinduism and Buddhism to perpetuate transmigration and in its ethical consequences to determine the nature of the person’s next existence. Karma is based in religion, but cause and effect isn’t necessarily. I don’t have to believe in karma to believe in cause and effect. But yes, all the material bullshit in the world won’t fill the emptiness inside; I don’t think K+K have the marbles between them to figure that out though.

      • Anony says:

@Bella…um, no. Gravity is a natural law. Karma is not. Think about it, if it was, it would be easily provable. We would find that bad things happen less often to good people and more often to bad people…well sorry to burst your bubble of delusion but that just isn’t the case.

  12. HH says:

Are there not any circulatory issues that could arise from how tight the Kardashians wear their clothes? Not to mention how often they wear Spanx. Perhaps this may lead to organ damage? I don’t know, but their outfits just seem uncomfortably tight.

    • Mojoman says:

It must be so tiring to put up with so much pretenses (fully loaded make up, schmaltz straining spanx, sky high stilletos and fugly fashion sense). I remember having to prep myself for a company Gala. Had my hair, make up and full bodied spanx to hide some rolls (ha!). The whole thing took me 2 hours and by the time we arrived at the Gala, I was ready to shred my spanx off, dunk my face in the sink and walk on all fours because my feet hurt so much. How can she do this every flippin day in and out the car, just to get few shots of useless pictures? She is such a waste of space..

  13. Faithmobile says:

I think a one year old did this with a little help but they should have removed the leather part and just had her paint the canvas bottom half IMHO. I am a sucker for kid art I would totally rock a purse or shirt my kid decorated.

    • word says:

Yes, I think North probably had some help…especially since we all know how controlling Kanye can be about “image”. Everything has to be “the best”.

    • decorative item says:

I’m with you! It’s kind of cute with the exception of the leather part, that just makes it look messy.

  14. lower-case deb says:

it’s better than the Condo bag with a scene from the Condo next to the umpteenth circle of hell.

  15. Venuslotus says:

It looks like she dropped a really saucy burger on her bag.

  16. SusieQ says:

I’d missed the story last year about her painted purse, so I checked the link. Her face looked better then.

  17. mollie says:

Can’t believe that I’m saying this but I like her entire outfit.

    • Candy Love says:

The outfit work because it simple and simple/ casual clothing looks best on Kim. She not a fashion girl no matter how are she try’s and those types of clother dose not look good on her.

    • Bob Loblaw says:

She looks like she’s being swallowed by a horse blanket.

  18. db says:

I like this a lot more than that monstrosity Kanye did for her — plus I’m a sucker for kids’ paintings. They were influenced by The Leg no doubt on that one

  19. Hautie says:

So does Kayne only own one pair of leather pants? Has he been photograph in anything else lately? Even the suede booties look the same.

How can such a self described….fashion forward designer…. only have one pair of pants?

    • FingerBinger says:

The leather pants and the suede booties are his uniform. That’s Kanye’s attempt at being like Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld also wears the same thing every time he’s photographed.

  20. embee says:

Definitely not as bad as the naked alien monsters bag last year. Don’t get a drop on one of my Coach bags! These bags he keeps decorating with “art” are so expensive. Then she uses it once and puts it away

  21. embee says:

Maybe they should each put some money into buying new shoes. Kim always wears the same tan lace up heels and Kanye always wears his brown suede booties. Time for a change. Get a new pair of pants also Kanye. She’s got a million bags and one pair of shoes

  22. kri says:

    1. Thank god for that coat. Keep that coat on FOREVER, please. 2.North is way better than Condo.

  23. A Fan says:

Copying something the Jolie-Pitts have done for awhile now highlights the Kardashian-West’s wanna-be, try-hard status.

    [*Actually, it elevates it*]

    • word says:

This is what Kim does best. She copies someone else, and then kills it by over-doing it over and over again until you associate “that thing” with Kim. Any girl that has long black hair with a part in the middle is assumed to be copying Kim. When did Kim invent long black hair and middle parts? She did this with selfies too. She posted so many now people call her “the selfie Queen” and credit her for the “selfie movement”. People were taking selfies way before Kim was.

  24. Dawn says:

These two just don’t have an original idea between the two of them. They are always copying those A+ listers they so want to be a part of. The Pitt kids did it first and with these two it is hard to believe that North actually did any of the painting because the truth isn’t their strong suit. But it does look so much better than the Christmas present. That’s all.

  25. whatsmyname? says:

I forgot about the other bag, she definitely wasn’t into that one. I guess she will be carrying this one around more since it’s smaller and painted by “North”.

  26. me says:

Most of the time she doesn’t even carry a purse, even when she’s with her daughter. This was a calculated step.

  27. BeckyR says:

Stupid IS as stupid DOES. That is all.

  28. JessSaysNo says:

LOL its hideous. If it was painted on canvas, framed, and hung in the house it would be lovely and sweet. But then how would everyone know how rich they are? And that is what TRULY matters..

  29. homegrrl says:

acchhh. I actually think it’s very tender. I love it, and it’s painful to admit, because I
have -one- bag I wear for the winter, and another for summer. I have two second hand
luxury bags that i’ve had for a decade. This thousand dollar thing will go the way of kid pictures on suburban refrigerator. sigh.

  30. sarah says:

why do people still care about her?

  31. CR says:

She wants to be Angelina SOOO bad.
