Elizabeth Banks in Saint Laurent in Berlin for ‘Mockingjay’: flawless?

Elizabeth Banks

Mockingjay: Part I is full steam ahead. After the world premiere in London, the cast split up. Jennifer Lawrence hopped on a plane to NYC where press duties await. Some of the supporting cast members shuffled off to other premieres in Europe. Sam Claflin held up the fort in Madrid, and Elizabeth Banks handled the Berlin screening all by her lonesome.

Liz looked absolutely stunning in this Saint Laurent gown, which is very different from her lush London look. This red dress is both simple and striking, and the fabric drapes perfectly. (Here’s a secret: I’m a sucker for drapey cowl necks.) Liz accessorized with Giuseppe Zanotti sandals and Jennifer Fisher jewelry. Bold scarlet lips and a sweeping updo completed the portrait of perfection. There is not one single flaw to this entire ensemble. Liz can wear almost anything, but she struck a high note here.

Elizabeth did some low-key interviews (in comparison to the JLaw madness that prevails) to promote. She told MTV that she “cried her eyes out” when filming wrapped. Elizabeth’s Effie is so beloved to fans that Lionsgate wrote her into this movie (instead of simply giving her a brief mention at the end like the novel did). Elizabeth talked to E! about this change:

Effie’s expanded role: “Effie really is a fish out of water in District 13 and they do not have anywhere near the resources that the Capitol does. So Effie really finds herself having to what I like to call ‘Project Runway her way’ through the wardrobe that’s given to everyone. Everyone gets sort of standard wardrobe in District 13 and she of course has to put her own twist on everything…she can make anything fabulous. Well she [Effie] doesn’t make an appearance in District 13 in the actual book, but Suzanne Collins and Francis [Lawrence] and I … everyone sort of came to me and said ‘We really feel like Effie … it would be really fun to keep her involved in the story’ and of course I’m thrilled to be a part of it and get to go to 13 and take care of Katniss a little bit longer.”

This movie is different: “The scope and scale is huge. It’s really a true action film now, we’re not just in the Games anymore, we’ve really upped the stakes of the movie. It’s really about a full scale rebellion and a war between the Capitol and the Districts. So all the action sequences are just amazing and upgraded … action-movie level stuff going on, not just the story of a small-town girl.”

A brief word on body image: “I think that beauty comes in all shapes and forms and sizes and all different packages. And I think it’s all about celebrating value and your own self worth and promoting confidence. I think that’s the most important thing we can give to young people is confidence in who they are.”

[From E! Online]

Effie without her flamboyant ensembles will be a sad sight to see, but the good news is that we don’t have to say goodbye to this character. She’s the heart and soul of the whole franchise, and I can’t wait to see this new movie.

Here’s Sam Claflin saying hello from the Madrid premiere. He’s adorable.

Not many celebs can pull off this color (they often try though) but Liz looks spectacular in it.

  2. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think the dress is absolutely beautiful, and she looks lovely, but I don’t think the color does anything for her. It doesn’t look bad on her, but it doesn’t compliment her own complexion particularly.

    • Singer says:

Oh •Dahling• I rarely ever disagree with you but I think the red on her is stunning (it must be due to the cold we are disagreeing).

I want that dress but I’d have to go under the knife *again* to make it work. *pouts*

Oh well, off to the spa!

      😘 *kiss kiss* 😘

  3. Erm says:

    Perfection. Just perfection.

OF COURSE Lizzy handled Berlin just fine all by herself! Gorgeous.

    My god Sam Claflin…

  7. Artimis says:

Love her, hate the colour of the dress, too orangey for me.

  8. Abbott says:

So glad they’re including Effie in the films. The final book was the weakest (for me) so I’m excited one of the elements missing has been added.

  9. Lucy2 says:

Perfection. Why doesn’t she have some big fashion designer contract?

    • Esmom says:

Agreed. And yes she’d be perfect for a big contract. She’s become one of my favorite people to look at on the red carpet, I just love her style.

  10. Linn says:

Elizabeth looks fantastic and can we please have more Sam Claflin on this site. Please?

    • Lilacflowers says:

      Yes, more Sam Claflin, please?

      • Frida_K says:

        Yes, more SAM!!

And I love Elizabeth as Effie. God, I cried every time (the multiple times I saw the movie…I’m not confessing how many) she apologized to Katniss and said that she deserved better, or the time when she told her to show the audience what real beauty was…oh, that touched my heart.

  11. Dany says:

wow she looks awesome in that dress, teh colour suits her. Surprisingly i dont like the colour of the lipstick on her. Somehow too red-orange for her complexion

  12. Maria says:

    Beautiful.

  13. Jayna says:

Gorgeous. I love her. She looks great in red.

  14. Birdie says:

Banks was the star of the red carpets. Sorry JLaw. Lol, Sam looks like a little boy waving. Cutie.

Banks is slaying me with her looks for this film promo. This is stunning.

  17. Ginger says:

Wow! Now this is what she should be wearing. It really shows off her slim figure. She’s like an elegant column. So lovely!

  18. Jh says:

    She is ALWAYS flawless.

  19. Murphy says:

I really like both Effie Trinket and Elizabeth Banks, but I think “the heart and soul of the franchise” is pushing it a little bit.

  20. BadAssCompass says:

if anything, she should be a Dior girl instead of JLaw, girl just keeps getting more fab every year

  21. Zigggy says:

    Gorgeous. Great makeup too.

  22. Courtney says:

Love the look. It manages to show just the perfect amount of skin.

  23. Lucy says:

Both of them are absolutely lovely! (Her and Sam, that is). She can do no wrong.

  24. CK says:

Lovely. Sam Clafin? Atleast, he’s cute. I’m going to need him to get a suit, because the is the second premiere that I’ve seen him on the red carpet looking like a 6th year literature phd student dressing up in his professor’s hand me downs. Can Dip(sh*t)lo start a kickstarter for that?

  25. jammypants says:

Sam Claflin is one of the few actors my age I would totally go for. HOT.

  26. Reece says:

    Gorgeous!

  27. magz says:

She looks great and I lover her, if she ever wants to celebrate over a sandwich, she should give me a ring. I’ll let her have my half too.

  28. Ally8 says:

I love her so much. Loved her character on 30 Rock, and on Modern Family. She has such amazing nervy comic delivery.

This scene on 30 Rock is one of my favorites (couldn’t find the video online, sorry):
Avery: We both know that is a bad idea. Which is why I scheduled a conflict for this weekend I can’t get out of.
    Jack: What is it?
Avery: Well, if you must know, I’m on dodecacil. The pill where you only get your period once a year.
Jack: Ugh! We’re so close to beating that thing completely.
Avery: Ah, well, my time has come. I’m going to a spa. Well, it’s not really a spa. It’s more of a fenced-in area in the Adirondacks.

The other favorite scene involves Jon Hamm smelling like frosting, of course.
