FKA Twigs: It’s ‘very worth it’ to date Rob Pattinson even with ‘vacuous’ gossip

As you probably know, I’m a big fan of Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs as a couple. I think they are loved up and adorable and they’re bringing out some interesting qualities in each other. I think Rob enjoys being with such a talented artist, and Twigs… well, maybe she sort of enjoys dating THE Robert Pattinson. Not that she would admit it! Twigs has a new interview with USA Today and she actually got the question about Sparkles. And to her credit, she answered it. Sort of. She talked about the fame/gossip aspect of it and how she’s not really interested in it. You can read the USA Today piece here (it’s a nice write-up) and here are some highlights:

Trying to do something different: “You try to do something, and it makes you feel disgusted in yourself . Whether it’s loving someone, trying to make music or trying to finish something and it’s painful, you’re constantly confronted with your lack of skill level, or you’re trying to love someone and you’re confronted with all the demons you have.”

On dating someone famous like Sparkles: “I really enjoy the fun of putting something out and people liking it or hating it or talking about it, but vacuous attention, it feels disgusting. It’s like a hangover. It’s weird, I know that’s not really because of me or what I’m doing,” but nevertheless, “the positivity that I get from (my relationship) makes the more challenging aspects … very worth it.”

Making herself unrecognizable in artwork: “Being beautiful isn’t everything. … Sometimes it’s interesting to show how you feel on the inside on the outside, just through expressing yourself. Sometimes I look at someone like (singer/producer) James Blake, and I kind of envy the fact that he’s a 6-2 English guy and no one will say he’s changed his T-shirt from black to blue. People will only talk about his music.”

People need to stop second-guessing her: “I’ll go shopping and I’ll be like, ‘I want to buy this,’ and they’re like, ‘You don’t really,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah,’ ” she says, smiling. “Then I’ll wear it, and they’ll be like, ‘Oh, actually, that’s cute. Can I borrow it?’ “

[From USA Today]

Yeah… I know she had a career and a profile before she even met Rob, but it’s too cute by half to act like interest in her music didn’t majorly spike once she got with Rob. She gets to say that she’s all about the music, but most musical artists know that the best way to get people to listen to the music is to give them some kind of gossip angle. Twigs’ angle is “Oh, she’s that talented girl dating Sparkles.” But I like that she gave that “it’s very worth it” quote. Sparkles is WORTH IT!

Meh. I’m going to disagree here and write that FKA had it coming with or without Sparkles. She’s got it; she doesn’t need anybody to help propel her to “fame”.

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

I’m backing you on that one, MimiF. Twigs is incredibly talented, her music is really amazing, not to mention the quality of her voice. *Love her*.

    • Cici says:

Who knows what would have happened to her but I had never heard of her nor seen any articles about her whereas now I come across articles about her on most sites pretty much every week. She seems talented but talent is never enough by itself and dating Pattinson definitely helped to raise to profile to a completely different level.

      • mimif says:

Yeah to a pop culture level, I agree with that. But she’s been skirting around the radar for a while now on a lot of people’s lists, just gotta look outside the box sometimes.

      • Gypsy says:

How many European, English and Continental Artistes do you know and, have you followed their music?
Also, how many foreign artistes do you know the name of who have never visited the USA on a concert tour?
It’s a big wide world outside of the USA.

    • Insomniac says:

I was in a music store last weekend and they were playing her CD over the sound system. The people who work at this store don’t strike me as the kind of people who would give two craps about who Robert Pattinson is dating, so while I agree that she’s getting a huge publicity boost from that relationship, I also think her music would have caught on anyhow.

    • Andrea says:

With the diversity music industry provides nowadays it would have taken her years to be noticed and known by mainstream public considering her songs are not something easy and catchy like Katy Perry’s… He definitely gave her tremendous exposure and a whole new bunch of fans.

      • Anname says:

She won’t be mainstream, I don’t think that’s her goal. Successful – yes, but not Katy Perry type success. Being “Rob’s girlfriend” has brought her exposure, which is great, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into new fans buying her music. I think she is amazingly talented, but it’s not easy pop/radio friendly music.

    • Artemis says:

She’s critically acclaimed and one of her videos went viral earlier this year or last year, not sure, so the appeal and the talent is there. The popularity, well yeah Patz provides that but not really positively if you look at the all the crazy messages his fans leave behind. The most vile stuff. Exposure isn’t always positive and it won’t drive up her sales. She got to know the ugly side of fame real quick!

      • ORLY says:

Pattinson’s fans are not the ones leaving the messages. It’s fans if his ex girlfriend and those nutters who want him to be with her only; robsteners or whatever they call themselves.

  2. Diana B says:

Hell yes he is! I’m really glad he’s with someone who appreciates him and it’s not afraid to show it. Guess that whole Rob is smothering twigs story was just BS, huh? Who would have thought tabloids were making stuff up?

    • Hannah says:

Yeah it’s nice that she says it’s worth it. He seems like such a nice guy he deserves someone who isn’t afraid to show him some love.

  3. Someonestolemyname1 says:

They are so cute together. Love her, love them together.

  4. Jess says:

What an adorable thing to say! They do seem smitten with each other in the pictures I’ve seen, very sweet looking couple. I think dating him has definitely helped her career, but she has real talent in my opinion, she’s unique and I like her music. I’m glad Rob found someone who appreciates him and isn’t afraid to show it, we all deserve that!

  5. PunkyMomma says:

Good for her! I wish them much happiness.

  6. Bee says:

Rob is worth it! I’m so glad he’s with someone who finally acknowledges that. I’m a Brit and twigs has definitely been making waves over here, but I don’t think she’d be getting the amount of attention she currently is, if it weren’t for her relationship. That’s okay though, she’s obviously super talented in her own right. Someone on ONTD was saying that her cousin does twigs’ hair and apparently twigs is really into Rob (true or not), it’s sweet. I love them together.

  7. Andrea says:

I love them together. I’m sure he doesn’t mind helping her to boost her career. I’m sure he’s her number one fan. P.S. Even Dylan Penn got photoshoots in major fashion mags and a part in a horror movie after the dating rumors, why not her?

  8. Tig says:

This girl has a healthy level of self-confidence- good for her! And glad she’s not shy about saying that Rob is worth the BS she unfortunately has to put up with. He really seems like a good guy, and hope their relationship is a positive thing for both of them.

  9. Courtney says:

    Those two are thirsty.

  10. FreeSpiritedGirl says:

I love her. She’s the one for Rob. :’-)

  11. Kim1 says:

I’m not a fan of either but I have seen the death wishes and vile, racist comments written by his fans on a couple of websites.I hope she has great security because some of the people sound insane especially the ones @Gossipcop.com

    • Bee says:

It really isn’t Rob fans that have the problem, it’s ‘Robsten’ fans and yes they do still exist unfortunately. There are a lot of disgruntled KStew fans who also seem to be throwing out a lot of hate, apparently Rob will only ever be allowed to date K in their eyes.

      • whatsmyname? says:

Seriously Kristens fans are the worst. They show so much hate not just for Twigs but basically ANYONE that isn’t their “Queen”. They need a break from the internet and some spanking or something.

    • Anname says:

She talks a bit about getting those tweets in a new interview in Rolling Stone today, saying she discovered the first wave of racist/hate tweets while she was filming her most recent video in LA. It very much disturbed her, so she responded with 2 of her own tweets, went back to work, and deleted her twitter and Instagram apps off her phone. She seems to have adopted the attitude that if she doesn’t look at any of it, it doesn’t really exist for her. Probably a healthy way to handle it.

    • Mi says:

Those people from Gossip Cop are not Rob fans. They are fans of his former relationship and they live through KS and her amazing persona.Have you read the posts on GC?Rob fans fight with those hating trolls and report them but they are still on the board.

    • Anny says:

Even worse are those lunatics who apparently believe that RP and KS are secretly married with a baby named Sweetpea. Yes. Really. Poor girl – those rabid fans are vicious.

  12. Hannah says:

She was already nominated for a mercury prize before people knew about her and rob. For you Americans, the mercury is like the Grammy.
Obviously she has got a wider fame because of sparkles but she was already recognised as an emerging and talented artist.

    • Artemis says:

      This.

People who follow mainstream music didn’t even know her before RPatz but they’re usually the ones ready with their theories about her and the relationship.

  13. Gina says:

She said in one interview that she drinks pineapple juice to make her body juices tasty. The girl is a bomb, he must be head over heels with her.

  14. Monica says:

I never heard of her until I saw a story about her receiving threats. I happened to watch her on the Tonight Show a few weeks ago and entranced.

  15. kri says:

This girl is very intriguing to me. She is the polar opposite of the Stew, and I hope they last. “Very worth it”, huh? Hmm, what has he got going on?! makes me wonder. Also, I love that white outfit.

  16. LAK says:

At least she’s acknowledging it. It is rather annoying when they pretend it’s not a thing.

  17. A. Key says:

I was actually a fan of hers way before she got with Sparkles. I’m kinda pissed that she’s turning into a gossip page entertainment story, when she is in fact a very talented and intriguing artist. Before it was all about the new and mysterious FKA and her raw, emotional songs. Now it’s all about Sparkles’ new girlfriend. Sad and disappointing.

    • Bee says:

She doesn’t seem too bothered about it tbh. If the music press start talking about her relationship more than her music, then yeah maybe. But she wouldn’t be on gossip sites if it weren’t for her relationship. Judging by her interviews, I doubt she cares what those people say/think and in fairness to Rob, he doesn’t court this type of attention either.

    • Andrea says:

She herself said it’s VERY worth it… Isn’t it enough to leave it to her who to date…

    • KC says:

I agree that I never heard of her before she got with Pattinson but it’s also fairly clear that her talent and acclaim is evident outside mainstream circles.

I understand annoyance at her seeming newfound spotlight for all the wrong reasons. I think it’s fine. The new attention is not from the audience she ever seemed interested in and I think it may help their relationship one being mainstream and the other successful in another circle. Kinda like a more obscure indie actor/actress dating a mainstream popular singer. They probably won’t clash over spotlight bc the non-mainstream partner doesn’t care. And in this case Pattinson seems uninterested in his fame. I think he’s about doing what he likes and getting paid well. My biggest concern would be her physical safety in light of all the attention and crazies who object for some reason or the other.

  18. I Choose Me says:

Saw her videos, saw her dance and I’m on the FKA Twigs train fo’sho.

    • Anny says:

She is definitely interesting looking. I don’t find her beautiful but at the same time I can’t stop staring at her face. Her dancing is incredible but unfortunately I just can’t really get into her music. But she really has amazing voice.

      • Leah says:

I actually think she is gorgeous when you see her in videos. If she was dressed up more conventionally you would definitely see it. Agree that she is intriguing.

    • Anny says:

I meant that she’s not really a typical beauty but she has just something so intriguing. I saw her videos and still wouldn’t call her a beauty in a traditional sense but she just has…something intriguing in her. Definitely has that WOW! factor. (but I hate the way she styles her hair) She seems articulate and intelligent in her interviews so I like her personality-wise.
Her overall look is a bit too edgy for my taste but she seems to carry it very well.

  19. notlistening says:

Aw, that´s so sweet. She seems mature & lovely, especially compared to …uh….someone else.

  20. Katija says:

She’s one of those people who’s very attractive while simultaneously being quite odd looking. She and Bennedict Cumberbatch and Christina Ricci should form a club.

  21. jenn12 says:

I like that RP isn’t attracted to the cookie cutter women in Hollywood and I like that she seems to be a mature and intelligent person who can answer questions about her relationship without acting like a ninth grader. My concern is the racist crap that was tweeted to her for dating RP. What the actual f–k??

  22. Leah says:

Rob has travelled to San Fransisco to see her on her tour today. I can see why she says he is worth it. He is such a devoted boyfriend.

    • Mi says:

This and this ones again. He’s such a good guy and I really hate when he’s ridiculed and treated unfair.I’m tired of those male celebs who treat their girlfriends like a thing, plastic dolls all those men who need support and attention but are too selfish to be loyal and supportive to their girlfriends.Such idiots are treated with respect by gossip press and even female audience.
